Really cool downtown cafe lunch spot to hit up for great daily specials and lunch grubs. Fast services, low prices, kind staff and nifty place in a historic hotel adds to the vibe. Great views of the downtown corner streets as well. Rachel is a great server and Donnie the owner is the coolest guy you could hope to meet. My sampling of the Miles sando, San Angelo sando, Cobb salad, and grilled chicken entree plate were all on point! So simple but so good! I will be back in again for the Tuesday special thay caught my eye at just $7.99 which is 8oz topped sirloin steak and baked tater with a side pick. 11 years in business so far, this place is a local foos staple putting a smile on locals faces and filling bellies with great food.

Fries pork chop! $7.99 incredible!

I took my two bosses here on Monday. When we saw the fried pork chop special this became a game changer. Upon tasting our first both both replied "wow this fried pork chop is just like my mothers". They ate every last piece of meat down to the bone. The potato salad tasted so fresh & like something out of a dream. The tea was super fresh, and the staff could not have been more sweet & accommodating. We will be back for every lunch special in the near future.

This may be one of San Angelo's best kept secrets. We have eaten breakfast twice and loved it. You have 4 items to choose from on the breakfast menu but they are really good. The homemade sausage gravy and biscuits are awesome. Can't wait to try lunch.

Our waitress was friendly, took our order and brought our orange juices quickly. I ordered the Western omelette w/hash browns (potato chunks) & toast and my husband opted for the breakfast burrito and coconut cream pie for desert. My husband seemed to have enjoyed his breakfast more than I mine although he didn't like the pie. My toast was buttery and there was no jelly in sight or our waitress to ask. Also, no salt & pepper or condiments on any of the tables like other restaurants. Perhaps because it's a senior citizen complex they aren't allowed to spice things up. Guessing here, perhaps government subsidized (501C3) so they are able to offer price reduced meals. The place was clean, quiet, ample seating and a nice menu selection. However, it's just not my thing to dine in at a "nursing home environment". I'm happy to see Main Street Cafe is available for those who are wanting cheap meals.

I know you know yesterday was Valentine's Day, and it's a good day to take your "Better Half" (and…read moreyou know that's true) out for Dinner at one of her favorite places. "The Grill". That also sounds really good to me. We know The Grill will be busy, especially since Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday, so we left earlier than normal. Arrived, and a good number of cars were parked all around. Walked in, and the place is packed, with every bar stool and table taken. The Hostess said it will only be a few minutes for your table. In a couple of minutes, a table was available. After we were seated, more people arrived, but they also only had to wait a couple of minutes. The Grill has two bartenders working along with several servers, and a couple of employees cleaning up the tables when they become available. Our Server is Sophia, and she took our drink order. Two Jack-N-Cokes and waters. While we waited for our drinks, we looked over the menu. We kind of already know what we are going to order, and we did. My Wife is going with one of her usuals, their "Happy Hour Nachos" ($6.50), listed as 'Roasted Pork Nachos' on the main menu. Slow Roasted Pork, Chipotle Sauce, Tomatoes, Cilantro, Black Beans, Cheddar Cheese over lots of Fresh Chips with Green sliced Jalapenos on one side, and Red sliced Jalapenos throughout the plate. I am going with the "Baja Fish Tacos", Blackened Baja Fish with Chipotle Sauce, and pickled Slaw. Served with Guacamole, Rice, Black Beans, and double Corn Tortillas for three Tacos. We placed our order with Sophia when she served our drinks. Then we toasted to Valentine's Day, and us. The bartenders here make the Best Jack-N-Cokes around. They are really good, smoooooooth, and go down easy. While we waited for our food, The Grill became busier and busier, with more people waiting. Glad we came a little early. Sophia stopped by, as well as one of the Managers checking on us to see if we needed anything. Service here is always tops. Soon our food arrived, and my Wife's Roasted Pork Nachos were served the same as they always have been, piled up high and covering the entire plate, and I might add, very colorful. I Love the way they prepare the Baja Fish Tacos with a Huge chunk of perfectly grilled fish all by itself next to the Rice & Black Beans, a large scoop of Fresh Guacamole, and several Corn Tortillas for you to make your own, with Pickled Slaw to the side. Both dishes are a Beautiful Presentation of Deliciousness that you will find nowhere else. The Grill does it right. My Wife's Nachos have a lot of melted cheese oozing everywhere with lots of corn chips and several pounds of Roasted Pulled Pork. Well, okay, maybe not 'pounds', but there are a lot of large chunks throughout this dish. She said it is delicious and loving that Pulled Pork. She ate about half of it and will take the rest home for a meal that will be for both of us - you get a lot of food at The Grill. I cut off a long chunk of fish, spread their Chipotle Sauce on a couple of corn tortillas, then the fish, topping it off with rice & black beans, guacamole, and their pickled slaw. This Fish Taco is Deliciousness and more. The perfectly grilled Baja Fish has lots of flavor with just enough spice from the chipotle sauce. I made three of these, each a little different, and they all were very Tastylicious. Each Taco was so filled with goodies I could not fold it over, and I ate them more like a Tostada instead. Either way, they are The Best. I also have some fish left over that I ate with the remaining sides, adding that chipotle sauce to each bite. I ate all of mine, with no leftovers to take home. While we were enjoying our food, Sophia said that she would like to take a picture of us with my camera because we are a cute couple. Hey, I couldn't disagree with that, so she did. Flattery will get you everywhere. Thank You Sophia. Well, guess what? Sophia earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm, and a nice tip. We boxed up my Wife's leftovers and headed home, and The Grill was still busy as ever when we left. This was a Great way to enjoy a Valentine's Day Dinner.

Absolutely no customer service, no greeting, no smile. We all have bad days but you could tell this was just who she is... Maybe make her in charge of cleaning things and not dealing with the customers? (the same person could care less when the couple next to me received their order backwards. The woman couldn't eat spicy foods and her burger was covered with spicy items. She took it up to the woman taking orders and the woman refused to do anything. Wow.) The restrooms, wood sides along booths, pickle table and the condiments/tables need a serious cleaning - there is grossness abounding. I didn't see one person busing or cleaning in the restaurant - and it shows! Gross. The fries could've been great if they were crispy but they were all super soggy. FRY FAIL! Onions: you can leave them thick for the onion rings but if you're putting a slice of onion on my burger you better slice it thin. Nobody needs a huge half inch thick slice of onion in the middle of a burger. PRO: The burger was cooked to perfection. At least they got that right, which is why I gave them three stars - nothing else I experienced in this restaurant deserved any stars. The owner/manager are lazy at best cause they obviously don't care about the customer experience.

We were recently in town visiting family and wanted to eat before we left town to go home. The well-known place we used to eat now closes on Sundays. That's their loss because we've declared the Dun Bar our new Sunday lunch spot when we're in town. Thelma was our server and she was just delightful. This is probably the most hole in the wall place I've ever given full stars. Don't get me wrong, I love a hole in the wall, but sometimes the food in a hole in the wall is a little boring. Like this food, it was so simple, chicken fried steaks, grilled chicken breast, a Thanksgiving lunch on Sundays, side salads, humble sides... but it's all so absolutely ridiculously GOOD. We started with the large plate of onion rings (which is $7.50, btw, you won't find that anywhere else) and my sister lost her mind about them. lol For our entrees we had two chicken fried steak plates (different sides) and a grilled chicken plate. The gravy is served on the side, family style, and it was probably one of the best gravys I've ever had. It's not just flour and water, it tasted more complex like it had broth in it as well. Somehow with the modest price of these very flavorful dishes, they still give you free dessert. Very generous. I typically hate carrot cake, but this cake was moist and really good. It was almost like a spice cake, very well done. Do not sleep on this place. The surroundings are run down, the motel behind it has seen better days, but the food is legit and the kindness can't be beat. If you go on a Sunday, ask for Thelma and tell her the girls from Fort Worth say hi.

#1 This is about the Steak…read more Ambience was great. Service was great. Pretty much everything was great, even the White cheddar stuffed mushrooms and Caesar's salad. What wasn't great was the Ribeye. And I think it's time restaurants STOP over tenderizing the steaks. A true steak lover wants to be able to cut through their steak. And because you can't realistically needle the hell out of the edges of a steak, you get that false impression when it is first set down in front of you that this is going to be a great steak... Then the issues begin. Medium is warm pick...the only thing warm pink was that first cut a the edge. The rest (that I could get through) ran the gambit of medium rare to damn near blue. Strange because I also ordered the parm-crust, which meant it would be subject a little more time in heat to melt the parm... And I think its because of that needle tenderizer restaurants use. You destroy the muscle fibers so much that the heat is no longer transferring within the steak properly. And what does over tenderizing do? It turns what could have been a great steak...into...MUSH. You can't cut through it because the fibers have begun spaghettification, so there's singular muscle strands that are straining to hold the meat together. My brother got the 20oz, and ended up just picking the steak up with his hands and trying to gnaw the meat off the bone when the knife no longer worked. The only person that got away with a truly good meal was my father who had ordered the Chicken fried steak. Kinda hard to over tenderize cubed steak since its traditionally the toughest cut. So I got about 60% through my ribeye and just called it quits. It became a wasted effort...you know the kind...where if you took it to the end you'd have to go to McD's for a burger because you burned so many calories just trying to eat the "meal". Maybe this is something that needs to be taken up management, have the servers if they want steak or mush. Strange thing I had seen a Youtube documentary on this very same thing, but never thought the steak at Longhorn would be worse than the steak at Roadhouse, which was mentioned as over tenderizing. All I can say, is if they continue with this practice, I can NOT recommend Longhorn, ANYWHERE for even a Waffle House quality steak. At one point I was fearing I had been bitten by the Texas tick that gives you Alpha-gal syndrome because I was actually getting a little nauseous trying to eat my steak at how mushy it was. It was only holding shape by the will of the sear and the parm-crust.

The email stated that all you have to do is go to Texas Roadhouse and pick up a sealed envelope, keep it unopened, and then bring it back between the dates of June 22 and 26th. The Manager will then open the envelope, revealing the prize you will receive. The Main Prizes are a 65" TV, a BBQ Grill, a James Avery Gift Card, or Free Steak for a Year. There are various other prizes also. Well, we did just that. We picked up our envelope and kept it in a jar of mayonnaise on Funk & Wagnalls porch (just like Carnac the Magnificent did) for safekeeping. On Tuesday, the day arrived, and we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. We checked in with the Hostess, and it was easy to find our booth. We just followed the aroma coming from the Basket of Fresh Hot Rolls they provide with their Honey Cinnamon Butter. First thing we did was grab one of those Delicious Rolls, added lots of that Honey Cinnamon butter, and began one of life's greatest pleasures. These Rolls are Awesomelyliciousnes. Our Server, Keleigh, came over and took our drink order. We both are having their Daily Special, Long Island Iced Teas (for only 5-bucks ea). We looked over the menu while our drinks were being made. Soon, Keleigh brought over our drinks, and we placed our order. My Wife and I both are going with their "Road Kill": 10 oz Chopped Steak, Seasoned with their Signature Steak Seasoning, smothered with Yellow Onions & Bella Mushrooms sauteed in Butter, topped with melted Jack Cheese. Served with two sides. We both went with the "House Salad": Fresh Greens, Cheddar Cheese, Tomatoes & Crumbled Egg with Croutons. Also, Ranch Dressing. She went with the "Seasoned Rice"; Rich, Buttery, and Savory prepared using Long Grain White Rice, Chicken & Beef Broth, Soy Sauce, Yellow Onion, Smoked Paprika, and Garlic Powder with Black Pepper. I am having the "Texas Red Chili": Made from scratch, Ground-up Steak Trimmings & Rich Tomato & Beef Broth Base, heavily seasoned with Chili Powder & Cumin. Topped with Shredded Cheddar Cheese and chopped White Onion. While we waited for our food, we enjoyed those Long Island Iced Teas. Texas Roadhouse makes the Best LITs around. Lots of flavor from all the liquor blended in this masterpiece by their Bartenders. We also ate the basket of Rolls, which were served Fresh, Hot, and Meltylicious. Soon, the House Salads arrived, and no one in town makes them like TRH does. They are not only a Beautiful Presentation of Deliciousness, but are served Fresh, Cold and Crisp. They don't skimp on size either; it covers the entire plate. We enjoyed our salads, and soon after, my Cup of Texas Red Chili arrived. I Love Red Chili, and get this almost every time we come here - it's that good. Not only is it flavorful, but also Very Warm with just the right amount of Chili Heat for me. One of these times, I am going to order a Bowl of this Texas Red Chili. It should go perfectly with their Fresh Hot Rolls. But that's next time, maybe, or the time after that. They have so much to choose from, it's hard to decide what enjoyment you want. Shortly after my Chili was devoured, they brought out our "Road Kill". This is the first time my Lovely Wife has ordered the Road Kill, and it's probably the upteenth time for me. It is also the Best Road Kill I have ever had, anywhere. It's known as Chopped Steak at other restaurants, but TRH names it properly. It makes me wonder what road they use. Both are a thing of Beauty, and they are not skimping on size. The toppings are also plentiful and look delicious. Mine is Med-Rare, while Nancy's ordered Medium. Her first bite said it all, because she took a second bite before she said anything. This is some Good Road Kill. I love how they season this chopped steak, it's amazinglylicious with every bite, juicy and full of flavor. The Sauteed Mushrooms & Onions only add more flavor to this Perfectly Seasoned Road Kill. I finished all of mine and am completely stuffed to the gills. Nancy ate half of hers and took it home with the Seasoned Rice for Lunch on Wednesday. Keleigh was a delight to talk to, checked on us at just the right time. She is not only a Top Server, but Very Beautiful. She also earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. And she bartends here at times, and we look forward to seeing her again. Keleigh also noticed that I'm a Veteran and gave us 10% off our meal. The Manager stopped by our booth to see how we are doing, and also opened up our envelope to see what gift was in store for us. (I did wipe all the mayo off) We didn't win the 65" TV, or any of the other Big Prizes, but we did win a "Sidekick of Shrimp or Ribs", which is great for us because both of these are some really good stuff. We come here a lot and look forward to enjoying our next choices.
