Chocolate Walnut Cake -
Ron M.

"DUN BAR for DINNER" Went to Dun Bar Motel & Restaurant last night for dinner. It's Sunday, and they advertise their Turkey Dinner as the Special of the Day. They also have a full menu, but this special sounds good. My wife and I arrived around 5pm and not many here. Sat in a booth and our server, ---, came over with some menus. My wife decided on the Chef's Salad with Italian Dressing, and I'm going with their Turkey Dinner. They don't list the ingredients of the Chef's Salad, but they do for the Turkey Dinner. Unfortunately, it's not on the website. You know what's in a Chef's Salad, and the Turkey Dinner is what you normally have on Thanksgiving. At Dun Bar, it doesn't take long to have your order served. In just a couple of minutes, it's on your table. My Wife's Chef's Salad is served in a huge bowl with a lot of wedged tomatoes covering everything. My Turkey Dinner is one big pile of turkey dinner stuff. Container of Cranberries (looks more like cranberry paste). This was pretty good. Green Beans, nice flavor, and a lot. Scoop of Mashed Potatoes, didn't think much of this, and I love mashed potatoes. A large pile of Dressing atop some shredded turkey, and not much shredded turkey, with no flavor. Expected sliced turkey. Gravy was atop the dressing with very little flavor. Loved the sweet taste of the Fruit Salad. Best part of the whole dinner. We were asked if we wanted a basket of rolls, and we said no. My wife said her Chef's Salad was okay. I agree, I ate a lot of this and it was okay. There is enough in this bowl to serve two people with leftovers. You get a lot of food here, but in my case, it was tasteless, bland, and very disappointing in the quality and amount of food. The Turkey Dinner Special also comes with dessert. This was Chocolate Walnut Cake, and it was chocolaty, creamyliciousness. The last time we were here was some time back, and I had the Fried Chicken. My wife had the same then as now, the Chef's Salad, and it looked the same then as it did this time - a lot. The Fried Chicken was really good. Anyway, --- earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for being sweet.

Pork Chop Dinner: green beans & German fried potatoes

Whelp, a local recommended I check this spot and I'm questioning him, in my head. So, lets get into it... Quaint exterior and hometown, no frills, interior and dated. Often, I feel this sets the mood for some good southern (or Texas) cuisine. Not so much the case here. I ordered the pork chop dinner (cooked light by request; other helpers posted dry-looking chops). They were perfectly juicy, with great flavor. As for the sides, there is an extremely and unimpressive options. Think: take it or leave it from dinner with the parents. Having lived in Germany, a few years, I love German fried potatoes. They're a huge miss, here! More scorched & chunky mashed potatoes w/ large chopped onions. The green beans are the cheap rubber style and lacking flavor. The dinner roles also unimpressive. And what restaurant in the South does not have sweet tea??? This one does not! My waitress was sweet and helpful. Even taking time to explain the menu options, once I shared I'd never been. Her and the chops bring it to a 3 star. Everything else keeps it's down.

The food we had was good yes, no doubt. The device is good, prices decent. The menu for breakfast is not big in my opinion but it does have the basic staples. Portions are pretty good also but nothing special. The grilled chops I got were well seasoned and not fatty. Hash browns were nice a crispy as I like them. Can't swap out toast for anything else but biscuits which kinda sucks if flour is what your avoiding. I did not try the house gravy that comes with every entree so can't speak on that. My fiance'got the pancakes and they looked good, smelled good and we're pretty big also. She loved the bacon and her eggs as well, super fresh tasting she said. For a busy veterans days morning about 930 am they were busy but nothing crazy either. Kept up well. No military discounts are offered here. They do take cards or cash here now as well. I want to go back for lunch and dinner next time and see what else they have for those meals as I hear great things.

How is this the best of San Angelo? It's over priced and super bland. Kind of a dump.

I know you know yesterday was Valentine's Day, and it's a good day to take your "Better Half" (and…read moreyou know that's true) out for Dinner at one of her favorite places. "The Grill". That also sounds really good to me. We know The Grill will be busy, especially since Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday, so we left earlier than normal. Arrived, and a good number of cars were parked all around. Walked in, and the place is packed, with every bar stool and table taken. The Hostess said it will only be a few minutes for your table. In a couple of minutes, a table was available. After we were seated, more people arrived, but they also only had to wait a couple of minutes. The Grill has two bartenders working along with several servers, and a couple of employees cleaning up the tables when they become available. Our Server is Sophia, and she took our drink order. Two Jack-N-Cokes and waters. While we waited for our drinks, we looked over the menu. We kind of already know what we are going to order, and we did. My Wife is going with one of her usuals, their "Happy Hour Nachos" ($6.50), listed as 'Roasted Pork Nachos' on the main menu. Slow Roasted Pork, Chipotle Sauce, Tomatoes, Cilantro, Black Beans, Cheddar Cheese over lots of Fresh Chips with Green sliced Jalapenos on one side, and Red sliced Jalapenos throughout the plate. I am going with the "Baja Fish Tacos", Blackened Baja Fish with Chipotle Sauce, and pickled Slaw. Served with Guacamole, Rice, Black Beans, and double Corn Tortillas for three Tacos. We placed our order with Sophia when she served our drinks. Then we toasted to Valentine's Day, and us. The bartenders here make the Best Jack-N-Cokes around. They are really good, smoooooooth, and go down easy. While we waited for our food, The Grill became busier and busier, with more people waiting. Glad we came a little early. Sophia stopped by, as well as one of the Managers checking on us to see if we needed anything. Service here is always tops. Soon our food arrived, and my Wife's Roasted Pork Nachos were served the same as they always have been, piled up high and covering the entire plate, and I might add, very colorful. I Love the way they prepare the Baja Fish Tacos with a Huge chunk of perfectly grilled fish all by itself next to the Rice & Black Beans, a large scoop of Fresh Guacamole, and several Corn Tortillas for you to make your own, with Pickled Slaw to the side. Both dishes are a Beautiful Presentation of Deliciousness that you will find nowhere else. The Grill does it right. My Wife's Nachos have a lot of melted cheese oozing everywhere with lots of corn chips and several pounds of Roasted Pulled Pork. Well, okay, maybe not 'pounds', but there are a lot of large chunks throughout this dish. She said it is delicious and loving that Pulled Pork. She ate about half of it and will take the rest home for a meal that will be for both of us - you get a lot of food at The Grill. I cut off a long chunk of fish, spread their Chipotle Sauce on a couple of corn tortillas, then the fish, topping it off with rice & black beans, guacamole, and their pickled slaw. This Fish Taco is Deliciousness and more. The perfectly grilled Baja Fish has lots of flavor with just enough spice from the chipotle sauce. I made three of these, each a little different, and they all were very Tastylicious. Each Taco was so filled with goodies I could not fold it over, and I ate them more like a Tostada instead. Either way, they are The Best. I also have some fish left over that I ate with the remaining sides, adding that chipotle sauce to each bite. I ate all of mine, with no leftovers to take home. While we were enjoying our food, Sophia said that she would like to take a picture of us with my camera because we are a cute couple. Hey, I couldn't disagree with that, so she did. Flattery will get you everywhere. Thank You Sophia. Well, guess what? Sophia earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm, and a nice tip. We boxed up my Wife's leftovers and headed home, and The Grill was still busy as ever when we left. This was a Great way to enjoy a Valentine's Day Dinner.

Absolutely no customer service, no greeting, no smile. We all have bad days but you could tell this was just who she is... Maybe make her in charge of cleaning things and not dealing with the customers? (the same person could care less when the couple next to me received their order backwards. The woman couldn't eat spicy foods and her burger was covered with spicy items. She took it up to the woman taking orders and the woman refused to do anything. Wow.) The restrooms, wood sides along booths, pickle table and the condiments/tables need a serious cleaning - there is grossness abounding. I didn't see one person busing or cleaning in the restaurant - and it shows! Gross. The fries could've been great if they were crispy but they were all super soggy. FRY FAIL! Onions: you can leave them thick for the onion rings but if you're putting a slice of onion on my burger you better slice it thin. Nobody needs a huge half inch thick slice of onion in the middle of a burger. PRO: The burger was cooked to perfection. At least they got that right, which is why I gave them three stars - nothing else I experienced in this restaurant deserved any stars. The owner/manager are lazy at best cause they obviously don't care about the customer experience.
