Stopped here on my way across Texas. First, let me just say how nice it is to have a non-fast food place to stop rest and get some food. cons: Month immediately, the first person you meet is the person who takes your order and she was sour as a lemon. Absolutely no customer service, no greeting, no smile. We all have bad days but you could tell this was just who she is... Maybe make her in charge of cleaning things and not dealing with the customers? (the same person could care less when the couple next to me received their order backwards. The woman couldn't eat spicy foods and her burger was covered with spicy items. She took it up to the woman taking orders and the woman refused to do anything. Wow.) The restrooms, wood sides along booths, pickle table and the condiments/tables need a serious cleaning - there is grossness abounding. I didn't see one person busing or cleaning in the restaurant - and it shows! Gross. The fries could've been great if they were crispy but they were all super soggy. FRY FAIL! Onions: you can leave them thick for the onion rings but if you're putting a slice of onion on my burger you better slice it thin. Nobody needs a huge half inch thick slice of onion in the middle of a burger. PRO: The burger was cooked to perfection. At least they got that right, which is why I gave them three stars - nothing else I experienced in this restaurant deserved any stars. Overall - it was good but wouldn't vhoose to go on my own but wouldn't argue if a group of people wanted to go. Burger was good but not extraordinary. Onion rings were lightly battered and really good, though I like a thinker onion. Service was just ok. Since I had never been there before i didn't understand how the ordering and pick up process worked and no one explained it to me. The restaurant was clean and just a basic wooden table atmosphere. I am certain that the person leaving the review which stated this business is clean has to be either an employee, the owner, or is sadly blind as a bat! This is one of tge FILTHIEST places I have Ever eaten at. The soda machine was caked with crusty yuk. T here was grime smeared on b ack wall where food was being preparedl. The condiments on the table were so grimy gross that I refrained even from using the salt shaker. There were long, old, dirty strings of spider webs swaying from the light fixtures. 3/10/26 at 2:05pm we came here for early dinner due to the incoming severe storms predicted for later today. I'm not going to review our dinner only the response from the (African American) gentleman employee behind the counter/food prep window . PLEASE NOTE that I'm only mentioning race so the restaurant owner and or mgr will know which employees to follow up with should they choose to do so. If I stated the "guy" behind the window, which guy we have several? While several guest chose this place to spend their money and to enjoy their afternoon dinner we were all approached by two male solicitors (1-white, 1 perhaps latino). These guys were asking customers for money to support their cause and in return they would hand out a trinket. Who knows if their cause is legit or not but that's not the real issue. The issue is a business is not the place for panhandling especially while guest are trying to enjoy their dinner. Would it be ok if a homeless person enters and goes table to table asking for donations? NO, I don't think so. So, why anyone else regardless of their cause? Who knows, maybe they are just trying to scam people out of their money. As I watched one of the two guys approach our table, I simply cut him off at the beginning of his spiel. I politely cut him off saying "we aren't interested and we are having our dinner". He gave me a look and wanted to plead his case and I again said "we aren't interested". He left and approached another table of 8. As we left, my husband stopped and mentioned it to the hispanic female employee behind the counter and her reply was "yes I know and I don't like it either ". The gentleman (I mentioned above) behind the food/prep window leaned his head out and said "it was my choice to allow them in and not yours). My opinion, very unprofessional and disrespectful way to talk to your guest. I'm curious if this employee's response/behavior is something the owner would approve of? So, after all this, the owner and or mgr now knows which employee's were on duty, a description, and time of day to discuss the matter should they choose to do so. The appropriate reply would have been "I'm so sorry and we will immediately correct the problem so it doesn't happen again. By the way, was your meal ok?" read more

"EATING DINNER OUT" - Alone - My Wonderful Wife is still kind of down for a few more days, with a Doctors appointment on Tuesday morning. Neither of us felt like cooking up a storm and Soup did not sound that good to me due to us having Soup a few times, along with her Chili served many a different ways for the last couple of days (and that was Awesomelyliciousness) - So - she insisted I go out to eat at any place I wanted. She needs soft, easy-to-go-down type of food, so Soup for her is on the menu - again. I felt like a Burger and "Twisted Root Burger Company" came to mind. After that I will stop in at the store and do some grocery shopping. We both LOVE Twisted Root and have had several of their Burgers - and everyone of them is Absolutely the Best. I'm having a little early dinner and upon arriving at Twisted Root I found several people already here. They are well known and well supported in the San Angelo area. Since my Lovely Wife is not here I decided to enjoy her Most Favorite Burger - the "Lotsashroom"; Half Pound Patty, Fresh Buns from a Local Bakery, Toppings made in House, House Made Condiments & Custom Pickles (self-serve and as much as you want). Burger also has Swiss Cheese & Garlic Mushrooms with Lettuce, Tomatoes & a Slice of White Onion. Also ordered some French Fries and a drink. At Twisted Root instead of you giving your name, or having a number they call, they give you a Card with a Famous Name on it. Mine is "Johnny Carson". When your order is ready, they call out that name. Found a booth and waited for my name to be called, well, Johnny Carson's name. While I waited I enjoyed my drinks - Diet Coke. Soon they called out "Johnny Carson, your order is ready." Hey, that's me - and I did a 'golf swing'. Picked up my order, grabbed some of their Pickles, 'Bread & Butter' & 'Ranch' and returned to my booth - alone - I Miss My Baby. The Cardboard Container is filled with Goodies and that 'Lotsashroom' takes up most of the box. I added the Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and both types of Pickles to the Burger Patty and this thing really stands tall - It Looks So Beautiful I kind of got a little tear in my eye. My First Bite told me that this Burger Patty is served Really HOTTT off the Grill - and it's Very Tastylicious. The Garlic Mushrooms are really gooood - I'm now drooling with a little smoke coming out of my mouth, and I don't care - it's that good. I enjoyed every bite of this Shroomlyliciousness. They have the Best Pickles Around, no matter what kind you choose, and there are a lot of choices but the 'Bread & Butter' ones are my favorite. Love the Crunch. Their 'Ranch' pickles seem to have a little spicy-heat in them - love that. Love their French Fries. They are Freshly Cut and Fried - and also served HOTTT from the Kitchen. A bunch of us came down here for dinner. The place is definitely unique, and the prices are great. The burgers are big, and they do not skimp on the fries. My strawberry milkshake was delicious. I'm looking forward to coming back here again. Tries friends sweet potato chips, tasted a bit too much cinnamon or nutmeg, was the only thing I disliked. My first time here!! Sat at the bar after a customer suggested it because of the LONG LINE!! Omg so glad I did. We met Austin, he was SWEET and attentive. I ate here, like a lot of people, on a word of mouth recommendation. That person ate here 10 years ago and RAVED about it. Something has changed and I've read some recent reviews and others are mentioning the same thing. This food was not rave worthy. I had a simple burger with cheese and bacon, subbed the Waygu patty and fries. It wasn't bad but it wasn't rave worthy either. The meat just tasted salty. Do their burgers rely on the extra add ons to carry them? It was average. Fries were fine with bbq sauce options and drink had free refills and if you were into it, you can get various flavored pickles which is neat. It was over $20 for everything and yeah things are expensive these days. Coin flip on if you want to try it or not but whatever changed from people saying it's the best burger they've ever had to what is being served now, management should take note. I'm docking 1 star for cleanliness. Area by soda was a mess, the area by the pickles was a mess, and a roach scurried across my table and fortunately did not touch my food. read more

My daughter and I ordered two burgers one with fried pickles one with regular fries - it was delicious but a lot of food! And we each got a beer, yum! We could have shared one, but it was fun to try the Big Tex and the Western. The Big Tex was my favorite and the Western was my daughter's favorite. They give you a name when you order - old school names such as Aretha Franklin, Nicole Kidman, Queen Latifah, Audrey Hepburn then they call that name when your order is ready - a cute unique twist but maybe time to update some of those names as there were lots of 20 somethings in this restaurant. They give a military discount which we appreciate! One thing to improve: They were really stingy and annoyed when we asked the front counter for an extra ranch even though we ordered two burgers! Burger was outstanding. It is made out of Bison meat. A pickle counter is unique which I have not seen before at any location that I have been in the past. It has sweet and sour pickles, jalapeño flavored pickles and sweet pickles and regular burger pickles. I forgot the name of the burger I ordered. I recall it had goat cheese in it. There is no waiters you are given a name which they call you by when your meal is ready for you to pick up at the counter. They had several TV screens to watch sports and a bar is in the middle of the restaurant. This place is located by concho river walk. After you are done you can walk it off. Overall, a great location right on the river, nice atmosphere, food was 4 out of 5. Actually, I probably would have given the food five stars if I hadn't eaten at the Health Camp in Waco two days before. Eating here in late September/early October and March/April would be good, as you could sit out on the patio and enjoy the river in comfortable weather. Overall I enjoyed the experience. read more

They offer gluten free buns which is a major + and they have such unique and fun burger options! I'm already wanting to go back and try another off the menu.
