Oh, I so wanted to like this place more than I did ... maybe it was that we'd been flying all day and just wanted something to eat. The first two places we tried were closed, so we wound up here. With such great Yelp reviews, we figured we were in for a treat. As other reviewers have noted, it's a modern/hip sort of vibe here. Dark, romantic. And pretty busy for a random weeknight when we were in. Our server greeted us promptly and we ordered our first round of drinks. Once they arrived, we ordered the meat & cheese plate for our appetizer and the steak and potatoes and house made carbonara as our mains. That's where things sort of went downhill. I don't know if the kitchen screwed up or the server forgot, but our appetizer didn't get in -- so we got our main courses before the meat & cheese. A bit of a problem for us since the meat & cheese & bread were the main things we were waiting to feed the hungry, over-tired toddler. In terms of our food, my pasta wasn't anything special for something touted as housemade/handmade - fairly bland. But I was starving from a whole day of eating nothing but Delta snack cookies, so I ate it. Partner's steak and potatoes weren't bad, but also nothing special to rave about. Overall, it was just alright for us. I've been to tons of places in a lot of cities that do this kind of vibe and do it well - this was just a little scatterbrained all around. Couldn't tell where the issue was - but the kitchen looked swamped, the bar seemed overwhelmed, and our servers kept trying to troubleshoot. Great service and also the food for this funky cool cocktail bar is also really good. Had decent wines by the glass, I had a tempranillo and my husband had an albarino. He had the Cubano sandwich which was on brioche from local bakery, culprit. He said it was one of the best in town. I had the mussels which they were able to make dairy free with a delicious broth along with toasted baguette with olive oil to dip into the broth. They also had brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, turnips on the menu with other dishes and I asked if they could roast those as a side dish and they said yes and they were roasted perfectly and a nice addition. After seeing the beer-centric sport bars in the brickyard Old Market on our first visit to Omaha, we scrubbed plan A to go with plan B in the more upscale downtown area next to the Orpheum Theater. Essentially, I called out "Omaha" like Peyton Manning ruling the line of scrimmage. The bourbon selection was wide but try to find the one special bottle temporarily in stock like the Old Fitzgerald that I had or the Van Winkle that was available a week earlier. The excessively huge cocktail menu FEATURED simple three to four ingredient cocktails like the three-element Hot Rod Lincoln with rye, coffee liqueur, and Kirschwasser. The fellow drinkers were mostly a laid-back neighborhood crowd, probably residents from the Limelight Urban Lofts upstairs, placidly lounging on sofas with window views of the street corner. Marvel over the complexity of flavors, the big blocks of ice, the clever menus, and Zoe's light. One of the BEST restaurants/bars we have ever enjoyed, and we've been around. Wish this was in San Diego or Chicago instead of Omaha--a little hard for us to visit, and this would be a regular on our calendar. read more

Cool vibe and the bartenders do great cocktails. This is not a place to really come by yourself and be able to occupy yourself with a TV while you have a drink and dinner. There are no TV's, and you will end up staring awkwardly at the bottles of booze by yourself the whole time. It would be a great place for a first date, or a pre-show cocktail/dinner with friends. The food is small portions for the price, but very high end flavor and quality wise. I guess you just have to decide what is more important to you: quantity or quality. Stopped in at Mercury and was very impressed with the place. First off, its modern look and its multiple seating with bar or couch options was very nice and cozy. The staff was super friendly and engaging. Now on the food, I have to say they have amazing appetizers that go quite well with wine. We tried the charcuterie, empanadas, and mushrooms. All were amazing! I would highly recommend the mushrooms which were stuffed and covered with peppercorn brandy sauce! Amazing! Cocktails were great but the food was very disappointing. The high prices did not reflect the quality of the food. $12 Chicken on a Biscuit was soggy and fell apart in my hands. We suspected it was microwaved. We're also pretty sure the chips served on the side were sour cream & onion Ruffles that we could have bought at the C store across the street. The pasta we had was okay but for the price we paid, we expected it to at least be warm and not be over cooked. Three of the entrees were also not available, including the chicken dish which reinforced our suspicion that our chicken sandwich was just pulled out of the fridge and microwaved. Our opinion: Focus on the great cocktails and just have some unique snack options, not entrees. read more

An excellent addition to the Omaha Downtown Bar scene. Mercury manages to mix class with casual in a laid back atmosphere. It is a very comfortable place to gather with friends and enjoy a drink or two. Its a bit on the pricey end for drinks, ranging from about $9-$13 depending on what you order. The food is priced about the same, however you definitely get your money's worth in quality. The craft cocktails are wonderfully designed and executed. It is always fun to head in and see what is new on the cocktail menu. read more

What a gem. Mercury was recommended to us by our server at Ugly Duck. She mentioned, that it was run by some of the good people at Nite Owl, and likewise was a good option for late night food. Omaha seems to be low on late night options, and while we adore Nite Owl, a greasy burger and tots after 10 PM is often a bit much. So on our most recent search for a late dinner, we decided to give Mercury a try. Worried we might find a slammed bar as it was prime time on a Saturday, we were surprised to find a quiet low key bar, with 20 or fewer patrons. Clearly word is not out on this place. Let me tell you all the reasons I'm confident this place is sure to be more crowded the next time we arrive. The food is delicious. With a fairly small menu, it's clear the kitchen has been able to hone in and perfect their select set of recipes. Though again, not the healthiest late night meal, we thoroughly enjoyed the beer cheese dip, spaetzle, and steak. The cocktails are creative and reasonably priced. While nothing on the menu quite struck my fancy, the bartender gladly made me a cocktail based on my request for a gussied up whiskey sour, riffing and adding grapefruit and maraschino. It was superb. I should have asked if it had a name so I could order it again and again. In general our service was excellent and attentive. The space is lovely and open, with a small bar and a good mix of large and small tables. We'll definitely return! read more

What a delightful find! The laid back vibe is perfect for a chill night. The place was relatively empty around 7:30 but filled up over the course of a couple of hours. We were fortunate to snag a couple of the couches - highly recommended for a homey feel! We noshed on a few vegetarian plates: the jalapeño popper empanadas, the big salad, and the mushrooms thermidor. Stopped by this place twice, and been blown away each time. Worth straying away from Old Market for this gem! My girlfriend and I stopped by for a light dinner a drinks one Sunday and fell in love with the cocktails, pintxos, and german-staples on the menu. Service was great! We came back before an Orpheum show a week or two later and were still mightily impressed. My favorite cocktail is an old-fashioned. As easy of a drink as it is to make, it's also is a drink easy to screw up, which in my experience, most bars and restaurants do! Here at Mercury however, on a scale of 1 - 10, this old-fashion is about a 9. We didn't have a reservation so the only option was to sit at a table up against a wall and beneath a dripping A/C pipe. (They DID warn us) It only dripped once on my husband and thankfully not into our food! We ordered the Rigatoni - my husband got the meat bolognese (he said it was just ok) and I got the rigatoni with the mushroom bolognese and it was a little spicy (which I like!) and really YUMMY!! Too bad we had to sit there several minutes without silverware and I had to finally get up to go get us some, even though we told the bartender who dropped off our food that we needed silverware. Kinda felt like her attitude was that it wasn't her problem since she wasn't our server. The drinks were small for the money (I got a Captain & Coke) and we were never asked if we wanted another round. The food was decent but the service was seriously lacking. We had to flag down our server for silverware and to get our check. She seemed pretty checked out and definitely not attentive to basic needs of customers like silverware, drink refills, delivering the check in a timely manner... I'd go back for the mushroom bolognese and just have ZERO expectation of good service and I might just bring my own fork.... read more

Loved this place. Cocktails were so fun to watch them create, the owner was so friendly.

I haven't had any food but the drinks are very interesting and when you get the right one it's delicious. The old fashions are very well done and my second favorite in Omaha. I've had a couple of their speciality cocktails and some are hit or miss. However, I still give them 5 stars for the uniqueness of the drinks and variety. They don't conform to the Nebraskan masses and give basic cocktails but instead use interesting conditions to give a unique experience. The atmosphere is like a metropolitan and I love that there's a place like that in Omaha to make me feel like I've gone on to a vacation. Great after dinner drink bar read more

Had a chance to stop in Mercury three times in two days. So many things to like. I appreciate all the windows streaming light in on two sides. You get a great view of the Orpheum and 16th street. They have an ambitious ice program with an ice freezer and a beautiful bar and bar menu. The wines reside in the vault at the back of the establishment. Cocktail and wine prices are reasonable. We only tried the cheese dip "obatzda" and will come back for other items. There is a nice mix of clientele including industry professionals. Always a good sign. Clarke is doing a nice job. Stumbled across Mercury a few weeks back and stopped in for drinks. Lots of craft cocktails- although I usually just end up going with something standard like wine or vodka soda. Atmosphere is really cool- think fancy diner, mixed with a dark lounge, like you just stopped out of 2017 and into Mad Men era. Christmas decorations really added to this feel. Went back and ordered some food. Tried the turdukin empanadas which were like a delicious Thanksgiving snack. Three per order so easily shareable- fillings switch up. Also tried the Swedish meatballs. They were okay but nothing special. Service has been great both times. Not a huge menu- great place for a quick drink and bite before a show. read more

I ran into the same problem as another reviewer but I was a customer. I came in, and my friend and I were sat quickly. I was wearing a no to trump shirt and shorts and a baseball cap. My friend apparently ordered a drink while I was in the restroom, and upon me leaving the restroom I was asked, "Do you think we have public bathrooms?" I said, "Yes, I do, you serve food." She then explained that the bathrooms were for paying customers only. As a resident of the Orpheum, right next door to this place, I was shocked. I asked her why she thought I was not a paying customer and she literally said, "She didn't recognize me." I grabbed my friend, we left, and I tell everyone in my bldg, right next door, what happened. Just beyond rude. read more
