Can not recommend Mercurio Brothers Printing enough! Bob and Joe were a pleasure to work with. I had the cards design ready but when it came to liners and envelope addressing Joe helped us make a design (ex. our website being visible only when the invitation was taken out). They have a quick turnaround considering the cards are letterpressed. All the cards, envelope lines and lines came out flawless! We even got 2-5 extra of each which was a pleasant surprise since I didn't have to worry about mistakes when I started assembling the invitations! Cost wise they were the most fairly priced option I've gotten and another perk is that they are local. Mercurio Brothers Printing is the best place to get really amazing printing done. The customer service is fantastic and they keep up to their time management, making sure things do arrive on time. Deadline is one of their great aspects and they make deadlines. Personal Experience: This shop was recommended to me by a co-worker of mine and she said that "the turnaround time is great and if you want good letterpress, they are the ones to go to." I designed my own wedding stationery and sent it off to Mercurio Brothers to have it printed in letterpress. WHY IT ROCKS: Mercurio Brothers is an old-school print shop in South Berkeley. While their website isn't great looking, it is quite informative and has price quotes, file preparation tips, and samples of past work. Soft proofs were e-mailed promptly after I uploaded the initial files during the Christmas holiday. I made changes to the design, sent them new files and got another new set of proofs the same day. The print quality is great. Amazing bang for the buck, provided you have your own design and don't need your hand held throughout the process as you would with a boutique designer. All in all I spent $6.50 per invitation ($8 if you include postage and some other enclosures I made myself), half the average cost of invitations ordered through boutique designers (whose work I adore, of course). TIP: The soft, spongy Somerset paper works as a postcard without an envelope, but they'll get a bit shredded on the ends when they get back to you, thanks to the US Postal Service machines. I'd recommend putting these in envelopes. read more

Let me start by saying that I rarely bother to write reviews on Yelp, but I could not be happier with Mercurio Brothers!! After looking at thousands of invitations on at least 20 different wedding invitation websites, and not finding anything that I loved, I decided to design my own. I wanted the invitations printed in letterpress, and I conducted extensive research (both online and in Los Angeles where I live) to find the best quality/price. I can say without hesitation that Mercurio Brothers has the best pricing on letterpress of anyone, period. I am not a graphic designer, and only dabble in Adobe Illustrator, most printing shops probably would have lost patience with me and my questions after about 5 minutes. Not Mercurio Brothers, Nicole was amazing to work with. She was incredibly helpful and very responsive. She changed the colors for me, not once, not twice, but three times. She also manually fixed a number of addresses that got messed up in Excel. Additionally, when most places quoted me a two to four week production time, Mercurio Brothers was 10 days, 5 days for a (what I thought was very reasonable) rush charge. My invitations arrived exactly when they said they would, and they look amazing!! I am so happy with the quality (and I am incredibly particular). We had an idea of how we wanted our wedding invitations to look like, but we didn't have the skills to design it ourselves. Joe was super easy to work with, responded to our emails quickly, and the printing speed was pretty fast. Everyone has complimented our invitations! The price tag was a little heftier than what we had calculated (doh, tax is 9.75%. our fault.). It ended up being about more than 7 bucks per invitation for a custom-made 2-colored letterpress invitation on 500 card stock with RSVP cards in 300 card stock. That's definitely cheaper than even cookie-cutter invitations from Paper Source or elsewhere. It was worth splurging! We also had to go through a three different rounds of minor edits, which was not so great, but it did not delay the work and we weren't charged extra for that. Indeed, the whole process took about 3 weeks, from idea to having them actually in our hands. read more

Clean lines, nice impression. We were very happy. Also, their customer service is excellent. I went back and forth during the pre-printing stage with one of their staff, Nicole, who spoke to me on the phone when there was a problem with the design and colors. She was straight to the point and got the job done as well as fixed some color mixups on my original file. I would definitely recommend these guys for your letterpress needs. They are affordable, friendly and have a good turnaround time (for me at the time it was 8-10 business days). As an artist and creative professional, I must have researched about 50 or so printers/ designers of wedding invitations. All signs pointed toward Mercurio and I'm so glad they did. Why so great: - Their pricing was excellent compared to most competitors. - They have a good website for you to estimate pricing, upload your files, see their portfolio, etc. - always great & assuring. - Through them I learned of printablepress.com and sweetpenelope.com - great invite design resources. - Excellent letter press and digital printing. - Professional packaging. - Printed invites and card printed perfectly to spec. - Excellent customer service. - Faster than expected turnaround. Since Mercurio happened to be local, I went to their shop and the staff gave me loads of printed examples for reference and were very knowledgeable (a must because I have a printmaking and media background). As we ended up with a Printable Press invite design, they were able to show us an exact printed example of the design used prior recently and a digital proof. That was more than sufficient for me, but they even offered to give me a free printed proof if I needed it because they were concerned slightly with the paper selection we made. I chose a paper that was not as smooth for digital printing, but if gave us that slight hand press feel that we love with minimal variation per invite. I explained this to them and they understood what I was going for. I would definitely use Mercurio again. My only wish is that they would be open Saturday mornings for easier pick up/ visiting. read more

My fiancee and I were referred to Mercurio Brothers by a friend who'd heard they had good pricing on custom letterpress printing. We're both novices when it comes to print design, but after submitting files for a quote, the staff was helpful in suggestions on how/what we needed to redo our design into a print-ready file. To ensure we got what really got what we wanted, we ordered samples of their paper and letterpress online and did some extra research to make sure we chose our colors based on actual Pantone solid chips. Once our order was placed, they were prompt in their follow-up via email on the status of our proofs, we received our design proofs within several days and also received our hard copy proof a few days after that. After approving both, they provided an order ship date well within the lead time published on their website. Our order shipped on time and even with normal priority shipping arrived several days later. The final product came out great and we're extremely happy with the result! Only cons would be that the hard copy proof, which is supposed to come from a carefully calibrated inkjet printer, seemed darker and less vivid than the color swatch we chose. The difference was minor and we approved anyway to avoid going back and forth, and to allow for any variation between the letterpress and inkjet process. The final product was actually pretty much dead-on for what we were shooting for, but it would have been better to have seen a more accurate reproduction of the final product for the added cost of a hard copy proof. Proof was also not on the same stock that had been ordered. Also, if you have questions - call! Submitting inquiries via the web were not followed up on due to a missing detail. If you have questions or don't hear back right away, call to follow-up. Pros: - Affordable letterpress that can save you a lot over invitation designers if you have a design in mind - Prompt delivery of samples, proofs and finished product (especially if you're in the bay area) - Will offer basic advice with your design files if you're not familiar with the requirements Cons: - Hard copy proof colors were less accurate to the specified color swatch than the final product and weren't on the same stock Overall: - Mercurio Brothers is the real deal for affordable letter press if you've created you're own design (though they do design if necessary, but can't comment on those services), delivered on-time with great results. read more

Great experience letterpressing my wedding invitations with Mercurio Brothers. I live in town, so I was able to stop by several times throughout the process to see samples, colors, etc. They were always very gracious with their time and patient with my ignorance of the printing process. The turn around time was surprisingly fast. My invitations were done weeks before I anticipated, and they even got them off the press and cut for me a day ahead of schedule, despite only having 1 press working at the time. I got custom letterpressed invitations, had a wonderful customer service experience, and paid much less than I would have for digitally printed, cookie-cutter invites. Super fast turn around! I came in the morning for some digital prints, and got a proof before I left (less than 30 minutes). Joe made sure my files were good and showed me some proofs so that I could sign off on the one that had the right coloring. I wasn't in a rush at all. I love stationary since I was a little girl and it meant a lot to me to have our menu cards letterpressed and passed out as our wedding favors. 3 months before our wedding day, I made a call out to Mercurio Brothers and since my fiance then (Husband now) and I work in the South Bay, they accomodated us by waiting for us to arrive and to go over their work. (They are open until 5 pm and closed on the weekends). We were blown away by their portfolio! We were even more blown away by the reasonable price of letterpress. We worked with Joe and in 3 weeks our menu cards arrived to my house. My experience with Mercurio Brothers was a perfect fit for us. When I had the opportunity to use Mercurio Bros again (for a client) I decided to give them another try. The quality for my wedding invitations was fabulous, and just because I had a crappy customer service issue before doesn't mean that that's the norm. I am REALLY glad I gave them another try. Once again, the invitations I had printed turned out BEAUTIFULLY. And this time, I had nothing but perfect customer service. The invitations were done in record time--it only took a week because it's not their busy time. I think Mercurio gets overwhelmed during wedding season because their prices and quality are both great. When you're dealing with a lot of orders, I guess it's easy to get things lost. I still don't think that's cool, but I guess it happens. I'd still recommend making sure that you talk to an actual human on the phone after you place your order online, as that seems to be the way they do things. They don't really say that on the website, but I think it's a good idea. read more

I love the fact that aside from my SF wedding, all the vendors my fiance and I are using are in Berkeley (La Bonne Cuisine, Kate's Kouture, possibly cake place, and now Mercurio Brothers). We have used Mercurio for our Save the Dates, and they did a BEAUTIFUL job with them. Fortunately, my fiance has an artistic side and understands print production, as he designed our Save the Dates and spoke the *letterpress lingo*. But of course, seeing the "design" via Photoshop is WAY different than seeing the finished product, which Mercurio Brothers did a superb job with the finished product. As a previous poster indicated, I found out about Mercurio Bros via a wedding website where other posters were raving about the finished product. If you can design the wedding invites on your own, you can save a ton of money using Mercurio Brothers as your letterpress or print company. The finished product is stunning. read more

I absolutely adore Letterpress and was insistent on having it for my wedding invitation's. But like many brides I was on a budget and couldn't afford the high ticket price that comes with letterpress. (If you have money to spare I would also highly recommend Lucky in SF). Through my research I found Mercurio on line and used them to create my invitations, RSVP cards and menus and let me say I was 100% pleased. I had a designer create my invitations (Three Paper Pigs in Saratoga) and sent them off to Mercurio Brothers. I gave myself plenty of time before they had to be sent out. All my communication with the company was through emails which was easy and positive. They were very patient with me as they sent me about 10 different proofs until I found the perfect ink color (after awhile it get's hard for a bride to make a decision! :) For my menus I the Digitally Printed Method to save $$ and was just as pleased!! read more

Wanted to make sure I reviewed this print shop. Don't get discouraged when you walk up to the building and in. It's old, outdated and when you walk in it's dusty, has a bunch of old equipment, smells like an old print shop and guess what??? That's exactly how the owners want it. We're talking high quality printing with vintage printing presses. I had some business envelopes and stationary done. I worked with Joe, who was very nice and easy to work with. I wasn't in a hurry so my print job was not a high priority. But when it was done, it looked great, the quality was excellent and the price was very reasonable. Jim at Mercurio is really the best. I worked with him for my wedding invitations and I am so pleased with both the final outcome and the whole process leading to it. I prepared my own design, and Jim provided invaluable guidance, help, advice, in every step of the process. He helped me in improving the artwork to make it suitable for letterpress, provided advice in the choice of the paper and of the color, and was very, very patient with all the changes that I made throughout several weeks, and with my self-learning of Illustrator. He even prepared a new plate free of charge right before the invitations went into print as I spotted a typo that I missed in the proof. He is also very honest, and always suggested the most cost effective way for me to get things done (even though that meant that I'd go elsewhere to buy materials). Ask to see samples (they have many in the back), and do ask Jim for his opinion, he has excellent taste and knowledge. Mercurio was also the most affordable letterpress shop I could find, and yet they had a large selection of papers, and an excellent quality of service and printing. Don't go anywhere else! read more
