We gave Jay all the information needed for our funeral program and he gave a suggestion on how to fix the problem and quote on pricing. We did just that. I just needed cardstock and the fellow showed me where they all are - a whole shelving unit full of colors! In comparison with FedEx's prices Cooy Central is about half the cost for the same type of card stock, but has many more color choices! Will return to CC for my copying and paper needs. I would never go to another copy center, especially since I tried others, (ahem, Emeryville Kinko's, several times, because I couldn't believe they could actually be so awful). Since switching to Copy Central in 2008, these guys have NEVER let me down. I am there a couple times a month getting stuff made for my small dog walking business, and they always come though. Joe D'Arcy at Copy Central saved me today. I had a lot of scanning to do for an obituary. I went to Fedex Kinkos and attempted to scan and twice the machine broke down in the midst of my scanning and lost all of my scans. They told me it would cost $2 a picture for them to scan it and it wouldn't be ready until the next day. I was PISSED! The Kinkos employee suggested I go across the parking lot to Copy Central. When I arrived I was greeted by Joe. I told him my frustrating story. He not only scanned my pictures in for me. I had to print a program for my mother's memorial and had originally gone to the Kinko's right next to Copy Central. They were not able to open the file on the flash drive I gave them and the completely unfriendly woman at the counter told me to email the files to them which I did. I was under much emotional stress, and didn't hear back from anyone at Kinko's so I went to Copy Central. The woman was friendly and sensitive to the situation and helped me right away. They had no problem with the file. She gave me a price quote for next day service. About an hour later, someone called from CC to tell me he'd completed the order so I didn't have to stress out about it. Five minutes later, Kinko's called with "a question" about my order. I laughed and told them I decided to take my business to Copy Central instead. I highly recommend Copy Central. read more

I am really upset with this particular location of Copy Central. I really wanted to support a smaller company and tried to give them a chance but not anymore. Although I hate to spend my money at Kinko's, I rather go there now. Here's the deal: I have been going to Copy Central at the start of each month since January 2007. I design a web page and need certain holiday graphics uploaded. They have a scanner but they will not allow regular patrons, such as myself use it. You must have their desktop publisher scan in the photos for you. It's not like they are doing open-heart surgery and require a medical licence. Anyway, the employee typically charges me $3.50 for the scan/upload/minor edits, which I believe is a fair price. I returned today to scan an Easter picture and he charges me $5.00 plus tax. I asked about the price increase and he snidely responds, "Well, there's usually a $15.00 set up charge but since you only scanned in one picture, I'll charge you $5.00." He acted as if he was giving me a price break but he did not justify the $1.50 price increase. The entire process lasted less than six minutes. I then responded, "The guy at Copy Central on Lakeshore charges me $3.50". Then the asshole says, "Then you should go there." I'm sorry this guy hates his life so much and could not obtain a better job at a graphic design firm but he doesn't have to take it out on customers. I guess I'll return to Kinko's. At least customers can use the scanner on a self-service basis. read more

I love this Copy central for several reasons. One, it is very convenient for me, close to where I live. Two, the people who work here (Mark and Joe are just really friendly and always brightens my day)...They assisted me when I needed help making copies of my postcard of my Pro arts 2007 open gallery...and whenever I need to fax something it gets done right there. Also, not to mention there are ample copy machines and ample parking spaces. I've also had things faxed to me here and able to pick them up quite quickly as soon as the other party faxed it. I will never ever go to the FED EX next door for they are so busy and I needed help faxing something and the lady showed me the machine and I had no idea how to use the fax machine then when I wanted her help she took FOREVER!!!!!! read more

Hands down the best copy and print shop I have ever used. I had some files in an odd format, and rather than saying it could not be done (as 2 other print shops in the area claimed), a skilled employee helped me convert the files to a format suitable for their machines. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere made this a very easy visit to the printer, and the price they gave me was significantly less, per page, than what Office Max charged me for a similar job. In short, this place is more competent, cheaper, and easier to deal with than any print shop I've been to. Our office copier crapped out with no repair date in sight so I had to come here to make copies. The dude here seemed like such a stereotypical slacker that I pondered if life indeed imitates art, or if popular culture was accurate in its portrayal of a social group for once. He couldn't be more indifferent about helping me, except he perked up a little when I said I'd do the copies myself. He seemed to enjoy hollering to his co-workers about all the fun stuff he was gonna do that night while I did my business. After he left for the day, his slightly creepy old co-worker rang me up and said "So-and-so probably never set the copy count before you started so you need to add up how many copies you made." Um...ok, so I make the copies, count them and add them up, AND pay? Fantastic. Well, I could have easily walked out with about 600 copies: while I made the copies, no one was manning the counter because the old guy was in the back looking at the interweb. And I really should have bolted, considering 600 copies on plain white paper, some two-sided, that I copied myself costs me $62.21 (at our office, a ream of paper would cost $5.99). It's a ripoff that they charge double for two-sided copies since it only uses one sheet of paper. I only brought $40 in petty cash so I had to pay the difference with personal funds. And as I walked back to the office, I was slightly jealous of the slacker dudes working in an empty copy store, listening to music, and maybe smoking pot out back, itching to clock out and go home so they can listen to music and smoke pot some more. read more

I used to run all over town trying to save a few pennies on the print jobs I do pro bono for my non-profit clients. Now that I have a real job again, I still do the pro bono jobs, but I don't have the time to mess around. So now I print everything at Copy Central. Yes, they are more expensive than Office Max or Easy Copy Center, and way less annoying than Kinkos. Worth every penny and more. Not only is the quality worth more than twice the price, but the convenience of sending my files to their FTP site, and knowing the job will be done right, is priceless. Special kudos to Joe D'Arcy for patience, enthusiasm, and really great service. If you just need to make 50 copies of your resume, you don't need to go to Copy Central. But if you want to print a 20 page newsletter with 4-color covers and a black and white interior and transparancy and lots of photos and it needs to be collated and folded and stapled, oh, and you need it tomorrow, and it needs to look AWESOME, go here. read more

I went in today to print out a copy of a 3 page paper I wrote today since my printer at home was out of ink, and this copy central location is right down the street from my house... When I got here the person who helped me started making everything overly complicated and difficult when I simply asked him to pull up a word doc from my USB and print it out... He started going off how it may have not been possible unless I converted this to a PDF file?? Isn't this what copy central does 100 times a day? Print out word docs for people who don't have printers at home? Why are you making the stupidest and simplest thing so damn difficult...? The least I expect is from copy central to have ALL Microsoft office word versions. No questions asked. Also when I checked out I was charged $1,35 for three pages... Really?? Those 3 sheets of paper must've costed them less than a penny... I was blown away.. The most I expected to pay was like a dime... Here is a tip: ask for Jay. There is no job too big or too small for him. He is friendly, polite, and knowledgeable and if you have a project, and he has the time, he will give you all the professionalism you deserve. I had a small but complex color copy job on a tight timeframe. Joe not only did a great job, but made a suggestion (at no additional charge) on improving my handouts for a conference. The cost was about 15% more than Staples, but MORE than worth it (How many times have you dropped of a copy job at a chain store and been more than sorry? I know I have.). Had to print up a colored brochure, and had an excellent experience here. Before I came, I checked the prices for colored copies at Copy Central, as well as the nearby Fedex. Copy Central had lower prices, and also much higher ratings on Yelp I might ad. The man who helped me was friendly, helpful, and made the process very easy. He even showed us how to bind the brochures ourselves without having to incur additional charges. Well, after 2 and a half months of 6-12 hour/7 day a week labor for my school portfolio class (not counting class time!), It was finnally time to print! Of course had been due 2 days before I finnally had the thing prepared, so I was in a bit of a rush to get 'er done. I called around EVERYWHERE to see who could do my akward 12x12 color format on nice paper, and copy central was the only place in the vicinity that had the ability. I actually called them 3 or 4 times beforehand, CLEARLY stating it was 12x12 and I needed it printed exactly 12x12, I kept having to double check how to save the pdf's, the cost, etc... and each time I repeated the size I needed. Each time they said they could do it cuz they have 12x18 paper. So I went down there to print... I was excited and happy that I was finnally done and that I had finnally found a place that would do it for me in the size I needed. Pretty dissappointing. First off, even though the paper is 12x18, the machine leaves a border around everything and automattically resizes your proportions, so you end up with 11 3/4 by 11 3/4 instead of 12x12. Of the many calls I made, they could have mentioned this to me. Now my pages flop around inside their sheet protectors and it looks pretty damn un-proffessional. My roomate later mentioned that all they had to do was set the machine to "bleed" mode. The worker had told me it was impossible to do it any other way. Additionally, the dude that worked there was kind of a jack ass. I told him kinkos had quoted me $12 a page because they consider it "oversized' and thats the min. oversized price. So he kept going off on what a great "deal" I was getting for $3 a page compared to them. Maybe average, but not a special deal. He kept talking about how kinkos didn't wanna do it because it was a difficult job, and how nice he was for doing it for me and taking time off the other thing he was working on to do my printing. I had 35 pages and the machine kept leaving roller marks, so he mentioned he'd give me a discount. He decided to try another machine, which worked better for a bit, but then started offsetting some of the colors on the text on pages with photos. It also started leaving blotchy spots on the photographs. So I told him do the photo pages on the roller marks machine which looked better for photos, and the rest on this one. About half way through the print, (mostly messed up pages), he started saying how he needed to eat lunch and kept talking bout how this was wrong and that was wrong. How he was taking time out of his day (at work?) to do this for me. How the portfolio had to do with my future and I didn't want that ruined. How they wern't equipt for what I needed, he was wasting money printing, and maybe I should go somewhere else. Unfortunately I needed it THAT DAY and it was getting late. How dare I ask for such a difficult printing task! He was really being an asshole about it and almost made me freakin cry (I'm already super stressed about this damn thing. I've been working really really hard on it all quarter, and I'm graduating in 2 weeks!) I went to the coffee shop accross the street while he ate lunch. He did come out and apologize to me, which I do appreciate. he explained he was stressed and the machines were limited etc... I went to borders and let him work on it a bit and returned. Still not done, but he had fixed most of the problems. I asked if he could hole punch my sheet protectors because they were not lined up to the portfolio. he tried to, and totally ruined the holes. Now I have to go buy new ones. I paid a hundred dollars. No discount. I was there for a total of 3 hours. The old man who worked there was really nice and helpful, but he wasn't the one doing the job. I don't know if he was a supervisor or manager or owner or just a co-worker, but if I saw an employee of mine talking to a customer like that they would have been fired on the spot. Overall a very stressfull and upsetting experience. And my portfolio pages don't fit right. If I could do it all again, I would have definately gone elsewhere. read more

I've used this shop to print out various documents and send a few faxes. They allow you to use their computers to access the files via e-mail. I give them high praise for always being prompt and occasionally giving discounts (no charge for the internet service, cheaper price on printed papers, et cetera). These guys just saved my butt, and totally turned my day around! I walked in with an MS Publisher file and needed 100 business cards made RIGHT NOW. Are you kidding? Kinko's won't even look at Publisher files, and they need to make a big deal out of taking an order and writing it up, and oh, come back tomorrow and it will be done (on cheap paper and with poor color). Doug took my thumb drive, asked me a couple of quick questions, got George to help open and set up the, yes, MS Publisher file, and had the cards printed and cut for me in less than 15 minutes. And it was really nice card stock, and the color is great! All the while we had a nice, casual conversation and I watched 3-4 other happy people being helped out. Sure, I may have caught them on a particularly good day, but I have never ever received anywhere near comparable service at any Kinko's I've ever been to. This Copy Central is the best. The professionals that work there know everything about printing and copying that anyone would ever need to know. Mark the manager with 25 years of experience has saved many people from printing nightmare's. The place has plenty of parking and is next to the bank and my fave Emery Bay Cafe. These guy's go out of there way to make sure all print projects get done right and on time. Locally owned and not like Kinkos at all, this is the place to go for your print production needs. They do faxes, large format BW prints, High Res color poster output, all types of Bindery, and the stock every type of paper availble. I've used this Copy Central for years and really appreciate their consistent good service and hard work for a small-potato customer. Most recent experience that pushed me to write this review was deciding to get married. Mark, the owner, advised me on how to do the printing as economically as possible, and then Joe D'Arcy, the desktop publishing wizard, made a beautiful announcement out of my photo and text, followed by a wedding program using the same material. Joe is very skilled and fast at what he does, despite working in a high-pressure environment. We got a ton of compliments on how gorgeous these announcements were, and saved a few as treasured keepsakes. I've watched an amazing array of customers and large and small projects go in and out of their place while waiting for my jobs. I think the prices are very reasonable for the service and quality you get, certainly compared to Kinko's next door, and my only gripe about this business is that they're only open M-F. If you want simple work done or if you're paying top dollar Im sure they will give you semi quality product. My personal experience has been up and down with this company because of the fickle attitude of one of the employees. I generally print art prints here and usually use 80lb-100lb paper but I think it's not what they claim to be. It's so easily bent. I used to go here out of convenience as well as quality because the actual print does come out fairly close to the digital format. But I think Im over It read more
