Krishna Copy Center is one of the few places in Berkeley that offers to print standard paper orders with added bleed (color going to the edges instead of a border of white space). It takes a bit more time and effort, but this place is willing to do it at a reasonable price. Further, email and phone correspondence was prompt and attentive! I came here to print some booklets for one of my organizations. The turnaround was supposed to be two business days, but when I called the day of to confirm the status, I was told that they had accidentally forgotten about it. I had a small order, so they were able to fulfill the order immediately thereafter, but as a precaution, I would ask them to complete your order a few days in advance of your actual deadline. When I went in to pick up my order, I found that the printer had mistakenly not printed out the last page of our booklet, even though it was present in the file I sent them. However, they fixed this immediately, which I appreciated. Overall, Krishna Copy Center is a great place for bulk orders, as the price they offered me was reasonable and competitive. However, I would make sure to order in advance and consistently check your order status, as well as make sure to go through your order to check for any mistakes or discrepancies before paying. If you don't mind a lack of professionalism, then this is your place, but if you value your time and have some self-respect, take your business elsewhere. When I first walked into Krishna I was excited to have some color prints made here -- I was printing letter size fliers for an event from some jpeg files that I brought with me on a USB drive. I thought the process was going to be quick and easy and that the quality was going to be excellent judging by what was printing at the time. I was asked by the woman in charge of color copies to come back at 3pm so that we could run off a test of each flier (it was 1pm when I first went in). Living in the Berkeley Hills, I went home for a short time and made sure to be back at the store promptly by 3pm. I was surprised to find that the woman I needed to talk to was on her lunch break. A young man working there insisted that it wouldn't be a problem, and that she should be back any minute. Busying myself for 20 minutes, I started to become impatient. When I asked another older staff person at 3:20 if the woman I was waiting for would be back soon, he just kept saying in a disrespectful way "she's on her way, she's coming" as if he knew with certainty she'd be right back. I wasn't about to wait another 20 minutes as I value my time, and when I stated that I would take my business elsewhere the older salesperson didn't protest to keep my business. Krishna Copy is my go-to copy center. Forget Staples, forget Copy Central, etc. Krishna has never once failed me, and I work for a company that deals with them all of the time. It makes me sad to see so many negative reviews because I'm always treated so well. Mannu meets impossible deadlines, without any attitude or unprofessionalism. My documents are always correct and they are really good about getting back to me in a timely manner. They will deliver in the RAIN if we need them to. They are just always friendly and great, which is nice when Staples is so incompetent and cold. read more

This place is seriously terrible. After driving 40 minutes to pick up the reader which I had reserved I was told they were out. So apparently they gave the reader I RESERVED to someone else. I was then told to call back in 3 days to reserve it again. When I called and reserved it again I asked if they could ship it to me to which I was told they could for $15 which is completely outrageous. Additionally, I was blown away at the lack of professionalism. No one apologized, the staff was rude and when I walked in it took 5 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge my presence. 3ft x 4ft poster for $50? 5 stars. I've worked with Krishna twice in the span of 2 weeks for two separate engagements, and they are fantastic. Mannu is incredibly responsive and helpful, and they try their best to get your order out beautifully, quickly, cost-efficiently, and hassle-free. Personally, I had a research poster I needed to be printed for the poster session on Friday. I called them on Wednesday afternoon, and they said that a 3 FT x 4 FT POSTER on regular poster paper would cost $4 per square foot, or $48 before tax. I emailed them the PDF file of my poster on Wednesday evening, and they had my poster ready for me the next day at 11 AM (although they give themselves a 24 hour turnaround time). After tax, the poster cost me $52.20, which in my opinion is the cheapest option in Berkeley. The paper was thick and sturdy, the colors vibrant, the sizing spot on, and everything looked sublime (except for a content mistake on my part). I had a great poster session with a wonderfully printed poster by my side. My second experience with them was through the student groups PILLS. We had our 6th Annual Northern California Pre-Pharmacy Symposium coming up, and we needed to print 350 BROCHURES that were each 40 pages with a color cover, along with two 2 FT x 3 FT AGENDAS on FOAMBOARD. Our estimates priced our projects at $1.02 + Tax/Program and each 2' x 3' mounted board = $51.00 + Tax/board. Through our intensive email correspondence, they found out that we had a sizing issue with our brochure, and they took the initiative to send us a demo page of what automatic resizing on their part (versus manual resizing on our part) would look like. In essence, it looked horrible, so we sent them an edited PDF file on Wednesday afternoon and asked for a sample brochure to be printed. After looking over the sample brochure and fixing some border issues, we okayed our order for mass printing on Thursday in preparation for the event on Saturday. But, if things can go wrong, they will. We caught some typos and changed them Wednesday evening, emailing them our final final PDF version early Thursday morning. Fortunately, they hadn't started on our project, so they printed our edited file and had all 350 brochures and our agendas ready by Friday afternoon for pick-up. Our total was upward of $550. We do our yearly language journal at this location and they're SO easy to work with and always defy odds. We been doing the publication for the past 3 years so - they have yet to fail us. The only drama is always on our end. They are beyond real and go beyond their way to contact us with a complication - even late at night they email us about a lost page or a darn typo and I appreciate that so much as the layout designer. If I could give half or even 1/3 of a star I would. I have gone to Krisha in the past and agree with perfectly acceptable results, they actually saved my butt a couple of years ago on a color copy job that had been botched by another printer. So when I needed labels printed for a candy bar fundraiser , I figured they'd be up for it. I called they told me 15 cents per page with my own labels (which needed to be laser compatible) Picked up my labels from Royal Mailers in emeryville (great folks 1/4 the cost of comparbable Avery Laser Labels). I showed up with my labels and was told NO. I said look these are from a large mail house and have guaranteed that they are laser compatible, how about I call them and you can talk to them. NO, we can't help you, we won't consider it. She basically was saying I don't believe you and I won't believe them. I gave her a big piece of my mind and stormed out. Went across the street to Copy Central. No problem they say, 7 cents a copy. Don't even bother to go in. Maybe they've changed management, but the woman in charge these days (used to be a guy, who was always helpful) had no interest in making me a happy customer. I like to support local businesses as much as possible before I even think about going to a chain brand store. I always passed by this location of Krishna Copy Center so I thought I give them a try. In their windows and even on the inside, they always like advertise 3 to 4 hot deals. I took the bait of going in there for cheap photo copy prices. I needed to make less than 50 black and white copies so I figured, I could get this done for about a $1 but boy was I wrong. The clerk behind the counter charged me a $5 fee for extracting the PDF from my flash drive. He called it "Ripping" fee which sounds right because I was ripped off. Then he charged me additional couple of dollars for folding and stapling fee. By the time he was done, I ended up paying close to $10. I didn't want to make a scene because I had my kids with me. They need to let the customer know all the costs in advance so they can take their business across the street to Copy Central. I will not go there again. There are so many other copy places in Berkeley and this is the one to avoid. They usually have a person working behind the counter and doing 50 other things around the shop. If you try to catch their attention, they will give you attitude. If I could give them less than one star, i would. read more

Honestly, I used Krishna Copy a couple months ago, and was perfectly content with my experience. I sent them a file, they gave me an ETA, and then later they gave me the print of what I asked, and I paid. I sort of assumed that all copy centers would provide a similar experience, so I didn't feel a need to post a review at that time. However, since then, I had the misfortune to do business with one of Krishna Copy's competitors, and my dissatisfaction with the service I received there is what prompted me to write this review. Service- The staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful. It was my first time ever even printing something at a copy center, but they walked me through all of my dumb questions. Price- I had asked three stores for quotes for this poster print. Copy Central and Vick Copy (the latter of which is also the store I had issues with recently) both gave me quotes in eaxcess of $60, while Krishna Copy gave me a quote in the $30 range. Quality- The final print was exactly what I had envisioned. Both the poster material and the print itself are both extremely high quality, and I am very happy with how it turned out. Speed- The one thing I can't actually talk too much about. As I was not in a rush with this job, I didn't mandate a turnaround time, just said "whenever you finish is good". If I recall correctly, I submitted the order on a Wednesday afternoon, and received it two days later on Friday. Overall, there's nothing you can really ask more for in a copy center. Possibly a complementary foot massage, but that seems unlikely. read more

I needed one page scanned and sent to my email and I was charged $4.37! When I questioned it they said that was their minimum charge, but nowhere on their website does it state that, and I've been there before and was charged 10 or 20 cents to scan a page. It's too bad because the guys that worked there seemed nice, but unless they changed their policy recently I definitely think I was just scammed. Either way, don't waste your money on this. You can buy a whole book for the amount they charge to scan a single page. read more

man, the guy who assisted me was such a jerk! i practically had to beg to get my reader and when he finally sauntered my way, he wouldnt let me see the cover. so, he charged me for a reader in a class that i am not in. when i pointed this out to him, he looked at me, looked at the reader, then sauntered back over to the massive stack of readers, glanced ever-so-briefly then yelled back, "i dont got it!" pfffffft. so i had to come back 2 weeks later. "krishna" is a hindu deity, but for our purposes, it means dirty, dirty liars. they told my professor that 20 readers would be ready for pick-up by 3p. i went at 5p. the woman said it wasnt ready so i gave her some bc how i couldnt come back any other time. she said, oooookay. i can do it for you right now if you wait. give me 15 minutes. okay... 520p. no reader. 539p. no reader. 555p. she emerges from the cave! "im just cleaning it up. it should be about 10 more minutes." 610p. "okay, do you want to look at it?" it isnt even bound yet. 620p. me: "umm, are you going to bind it?" woman: "the machine is warming up. i can ring you up in the meantime." 630p. shes finally ringing me up and says, "the person who was supposed to do it called in sick today." wtf. this is a business. who actually says that to a customer? if a job was supposed to be done, someone needs to cover. one star is generous, but i guess it was only $8 and change... read more

After reading the two pissy reviews by Patricia D and "terra d.", I hasten to add my own *positive* comments. I've been doing business with Krishna Copy since 1981 -- starting at their original location at Dwight & Telegraph (now occupied by a Peet's) and the original owner: the father of the son&daughter current proprietors. (I'm writing here only of the University Ave. store, not having any current dealings with the one at another location on Telegraph.) I've never had a problem with Krishna Copy. Their print quality is consistently excellent, their prices are better than excellent, and their turn-around time is entirely acceptable. However, one must keep in mind when dealing with a small business that workload and staffing levels vary. Sometimes it's busy and your job has to take its place in the queue, so if you're in a big hurry (as Patricia D. apparently was) you might check out first about delivery time before getting an attitudinal load of unreasonable expectations. Example in my own recent history: In August I took in a moderate-sized job -- 350 copies of a 6-page newsletter, copied, collated and folded. Took 4-5 days because they were loaded with other work. And day before yesterday I took in another job of 200 copies of a 60-page half-lettersized magazine, and got a *one*-day turnaround. My suggestion to Patricia and "terra" is to take a deep breath, realize that the universe isn't always aligned with your high expectations, and chill out a little before rushing to condemn. --Robert L. read more

The absolute worst experience of my life! The manager (Indian? Wears a ball cap. Maybe in his 30's) is so unprofessional and rude. I was going to Krisna once a month for awhile. I liked working with the other kids when I had to copy something. When the manager was around, it was a different story. Awful! Today, he did some things that will not make me ever go back. I walked in and saw him in the back. I walked over to him to see when someone would be available to help me with my copy needs. He said, "You can't walk in here so fast, that is very rude". What? I told him that he can't talk to me or any other customer like that. He proceeded to tongue lash me. I told him that I have brought alot of business to Krisna (from me and from others). He told me, "Who cares?, I don;t want your business". He then told me to leave his store or he would call the police. I told him, "For what? For you being rude to me and me telling you that you can't talk to me that way?". He then yelled some more. As I was walking out he followed me and I said, "Do you know who I am? I am a customer". He shot back a very snide, "I don't care who you are". Then, he laughed. I couldn't believe it. I was shook up. I have been warned about him in the past. I gritted my teeth anytime I had to deal with him. However, today was way over the edge. He insulted the way I walk. He told me that he doesn't care about my business. The staff looked so uncomfortable. An older lady that works there kept whispering "sorry" to me and tried to stop him from insulting me. Well, that is it. I have not experienced anything like that in a store in my life. I took my business elsewhere. The owner at the new place I do business with now, told me that the guy at Krishna has a bad reputation. Awful. That man needs anger management, to get out of public relations and learn some manners and respect. read more

I did business with these guys for 3 months because of the good prices. I had numerous problems with them during that time, including their never being able to deliver, despite their guarantee of free delivery for orders over $150.00. During the week between New Years and Christmas, I sent one of my people over with a printing order. The absolute low life scumbag who was running the place while the owners were out of town, tried to Jack my employee for a down payment, claimed I didn't have an account with them. This, despite the fact that I had spent nearly $2000.00 there in the past 3 months and filled out a credit app before the very first order. When I tried to straighten this creep out, he called me every name in the book, and tried to pick a fight with me. Anyone crazy enough to use these people for any service needs to get there head examined. I tried to print my own wedding programs at work and they got f'ed up. So then I went to Kinko's. Why? I don't know. Has anyone actually been helped at Kinko's? Then I thought, Hindu programs? I have to go to Krishna Copy. I emailed the file and dropped off the cardstock. They were printed perfectly and nicely folded for me the next morning. No problem. Performed excellent scans of a huge volume of genealogy materials from my grandmother in 2017 (over 10 banker's boxes, thousands of pages). Lots of detailed work and customization. Very flexible staff, very high quality scans, decent rates. Good logistics, tracking the hours that the staff had spent on each portion of the large job. Despite fair prices and a convenient downtown location, I recommend against going to this place. I went to fax some documents and there was a lack of professionalism. The store made a mistake in the phone number when they dialed for my fax to be sent. This I can completely understand because anyone can make an honest mistake. However, when I went back to ask for the fax to be resent, I was treated with a lack or respect. The person who spoke with me did not apologize for the earlier mistake. He made it seem like it he didn't believe the mistake, even though I had the cover letter showing the error in the phone number that was dialed. I will go to another copy shop next time for making copies or faxing. read more

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews on here. I am a graduate student sometimes have to make a poster of my research for display for conferences, etc.. Twice, these guys have saved my butt when I was in a pinch and needed the poster printed at the last minute. The guy that does the posters was really helpful and knew standard sizes and worked with me to reformat, etc. All at the last minute. He had my poster ready in two hours while Copy Central wanted to charge me rush fees and couldn't be sure that they could meet my deadline. Perhaps the folks that are so critical are looking for the fake 'customer service' type of personality. These guys don't come off like sales people, but I think that might be why I like them. First off, a lot of these reviews seem fake/done by Krishna Copy center themselves. The place is a mess, it looks like they opened the store but didn't finish setting the place up. I literally just paid $1.68 for ONE black and white copy. W.T.F. Had I not been strapped for time, I would have told them to shove the copy up their behinds. The staff was alright, but c'mon. I walked in expecting to be jipped (maybe like 25 cents for a copy) but $1.68?? How do you even justify that. Copies are 14 cents on campus and even that's a high markup. Had a very bad experience when I went in to see the cost of a bunch of color prints. I was doubting about it and he (I believe the manager or owner) said that he would go to the back and print me out one to help me decide. Before I could respond he had taken my print and headed to the back. He returned with a print that looked nice but it was still too expensive for what I was looking for. I went to leave and he told me that I couldn't leave until I paid $5 for the sample copy that he made!! He wouldn't give me back my original until I had done so!!! Grudgingly, and in retrospect, stupidly, I paid and left feeling sick after having been scammed. I would never return!!! read more

I have to give a shout out to Will, the employee that saved my photoshop illiterate butt. I had a specific project that required photoshop/word expertise and went to a couple of other copy centers. They all told me they had no idea what I needed or I would be charged 28 bucks for this one image I needed, ONE. Came across Krishna while walking and thought a copy center with a name like Krishna would have to help me (so they wouldn't accumulate bad karma ;)). And my hunch was right. Will was not only computer savvy but actually showed me what he was doing, made extra copies for me and all for an incredible price. I second what Adele F said a few months ago. We had Krishna do a tiny little job for us. They were by far the cheapest option, but the service and quality was all that we could wish for. Mannu went *way* above the call of duty; he pointed out to us that the resolution of the pictures we gave him was too low; so we sent him original jpgs and he basically recreated our layout for us, with the better pics. This was my go-to copy shop for years because their prices seemed fair and their service was usually cheerful. After today, I will be going elsewhere. Krishna has a history of avoiding posting their prices, and I have in the past been charged different amounts depending on who was working the store that day. One woman tried to charge me FOUR DOLLARS for a single 8.5x11 color print-out on plain paper. (For reference, 69-89 cents is typical around here, a dollar would be high but still within range.) I had paid significantly less for the same product during a previous visit. I learned to always ask, but as a semi-regular customer, I should not have to be that careful. Today they charged me 2.5 cents per STAPLE, which I had added manually with the stapler provided in their little self-service island in the middle. We are not talking about a copy add-on option, for which there is typically a charge. There was no sign, no warning on the stapler, no nothing. I found out about this when they rang me up. I'm glad I did not touch the white-out. Normally I prefer to support local businesses, but I make very big exceptions when the business tries to be sneaky. Krishna made an extra 35 cents off of me today. I hope it was worth the loss of customer and this review. PLEASE NOTE: Places like Krishna make the bulk of their money off of big orders such as readers. It would not surprise me if reader customers were generally treated better than walk-ins. read more

I have to give Krishna Copy high marks for getting my projects done on time and at great prices. I have had it with the high prices of Kinkos/Fedex. I get the same quality of work done at Krishna for 1/3 the cost. Every time I have been in the staff has been more than helpful.
