I've had two very small print jobs done at this Copy Central. One was a ~350 page black & white manuscript to edit, the other was a very small order of 4 posters of some very silly art. Both times I emailed my files over and received a response with a quote and additional questions within an hour of my initial email. For the manuscript - whether I wanted the manuscript bound along with binding options, and if I needed a cover for it. Both print jobs were done within an hour or two of my confirmation of the quote. I think the manuscript took less than an hour, and they gave me a timeframe of when it would be done. The posters were ready in 5 minutes. The price seemed fair for both of them. I could have printed the manuscript out at home, but I wouldn't have had it bound. It was *very* nice having it bound. The manuscript was around $40 for binding and same day service. The posters actually astounded me with how cheap they were. 4 glossy 12x17 posters in full color for under $15. Great all around. I'll go to them anytime I need something printed and can't do it with my home printer. read more

Life savers! Say what? How can Copy Central save my life? I'll tell you. SHNSF doesn't have a budget to create etickets that you can transfer to you smartphone wallet. You still need to do the old fashion way of printing and presenting at door. Well, I forgot to print it on the day of the show. And it's a good thing I saved a PDF in my email box, otherwise I would had been dead! My BFF would had killed me. I had a terrific experience at Copy Central and will definitely come back for printing needs in the future. I needed to make a few large prints of my artwork and all the other print and copy stores I called either had expensive prices or required you place bulk orders of 100 prints or more (clearly aimed at businesses, whereas I was an individual wanting a couple prints). Copy Central was a live saver; it was the only place I found in the city that was willing to work with my requirements, and on top of that they were super patient and accommodating. They let me bring my own paper to print on, which was a requirement I had for my project. At the store, Ivy dedicated a lot of time with me to experiment with different papers, help me resize the art I wanted to print, and helped me through the process without rushing me at all. Our office is right next to this print shop and I come here regularly to get various items done: name tags, flyers but also some more complicated stuff. And it's exactly for the more complicated stuff that I like coming here: Mike, one of the people who work here, is super helpful in figuring out the logistics of my projects. He sits down with me and shows me samples and only when I'm satisfied with the way it looks, will he print the entire project. Obviously, coming here is a bit more expensive than filing a job with Staples, but I appreciate the fact that I see samples and get to interact with a real person! Customer service hooray! I don't know if it's a California thing, or a San Francisco thing but I have really become accustomed to an immediate response. Tech bubble maybe? Copy central is just the place to fulfill my 'I don't want to do that, but it needs to be done right and fast' needs. Getting a seating chart and table name cards is probably the least fun part of planning a wedding. It's kinda like having to do a mail merge. Who wants to do that? I enlisted the help of one of my bridesmaids, to request a few proposals. Not only did Copy Central come in at a competitive price, they were also able to fulfill my color needs. I needed the gold to be as close to a metallic as possible. They made it happen! Copy Central is professional, prompt and they produce a top quality product! In one day after a few brief emails my chart had a proof and within 24 hours was complete. The table name cards were a last minute addition. No matter, I still received the same prompt turn-around with perfect results. Not to mention the prices are very reasonable - $85 bucks for a 24x36 poster board print. I've been coming to Mike's copy shop under its various identities for at least a decade. I used to work up Kearny Street and go there for all my personal photocopying, and now I just happen to live in the general neighborhood. Whether it's to make a photocopy of an odd-sized color cartoon I drew or to make new business cards or just to fax a document, I am always met with a friendly, service-oriented attitude there. It's quite a far cry from the smallmouth I receive at Kinko's. For those of you who don't know, smallmouth is a facial affectation where a person purses his or her lips into a condescending, closed-mouth frown as if experiencing a rectal exam. It happens when you give the Kinko's clerk an invalid PC-rental card or ask if you can use the restroom. You will get none of that with Mike and his crew. This place has been my printing HQ for the last few weeks. We Academy kids have been running their color printer machines to the ground in preparation for Thesis Presentations & such. It ain't pretty.... But it ain't bad (even though there's only one lone mac to work with on a crowd of PCs) The trick I learned early is to be vocal! I go stompin' in there with my boots on, head high and with a half-major 'tude, but then.. whammo, I become little miss printing sweetheart. The guys find it unexpected! (you can tell they've been trampled on far too many times by bitchy fashion students!) Poor fellas. Take it easy on this crew. They're overworked, and on their feet constantly. They may not know the answer to everything but they are happy to try and help. Sure things could be improved, but it's light years ahead of Stinkos-Kinko's (who is right across the street!) Be warned: if you want to print something from your email, they charge you a minimum of $1 just to use their computer. So to print one page (15 cents), you'll pay $1.15 + tax which is pretty pricey so I wouldn't come to them unless it was urgent. I've been a loyal customer for the past two years and NEVER had a problem until today. I was getting booklets printed out like usual but this time for a personal project and asked VERY nicely about getting some sort of discount. We were emailing back and forth and I decided to call. When I was on the phone with the man quoting the project he was extremely rude and insisted that instead of talking on the phone about my question he would email me back instead. Some words that can describe this place? TERRIBLE! HORRENDOUS, a big fat headache. The employees that work here are absolutely rude, customer service is no where to be found. I have tried many times to give this business the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they were having a bad day? But apparently everyday is a bad day at copy central. Two employees in particular stood out to me today on my visit, first it was the skinny Caucasian male with short brown hair who was sitting at a crowded desk next to the door facing away from the rental computers. The second was the incredibly RUDE Asian lady with a long face droopy eyes and long black hair. If you see anyone who looks like this at copy central RUN AWAY! FAR! The place was crowded, I needed to open a PSD file on one of the computers and I noticed that not all of them had PHOTOSHOP installed. Therefore I did the most logical thing and asked an employee (Skinny white male) in a loud audible tone "EXCUSE ME, which of these computers has photoshop?" No answer, he continues typing and moving papers...I asked maybe 3 times, he is the only worker in the area and he NEVER turned around to answer me, he didn't even acknowledge me. Now I think if you're working somewhere especially if you're dead center where the customers are, you should always be alert, I don't give a rats ass what you're doing. So in my opinion that was just unforgivable. And I know he's not deaf because Ive been to the store in the past and seen him communicating with other workers with EASE. Anyway...on to the woman... She is just aggressive and tired, go home and take a nap for crying out loud. Used to love this place. I went there a week ago or so and I waited at the counter for someone to help me for 5 min. THEN some guy comes to help me, asks what I need, and mumbles some comment a me that I didn't hear. Then he leaves. I mean leaves, like gets off work leaves, and I see him leave the place with his jacked and bag and he didn't say ANYTHING. So then I stood there looking like a loser not knowing if I should just leave or not. Then a lady comes to help me, who I can't understand, and she didn't seem to know how to take information off of a cd to look at it. She stared at me for a minute or so when I told her what I needed, told me it would cost $75. So I said "forget it" and she continued to stare at me, meanwhile in my head I was about to explode! Then I had to say, "I am leaving, can I have my cd back?" and she STILL STARED AT ME with this blank look...like "huh? what is this thing you call a cd?" LOL it is hilarious now that I look back on it. Won't go here again now though. read more

The only reason I give them stars is because I get good service only when certain associates work. I usually have the younger looking guy that wears all black (I forgot his name) help me because he knows exactly what to do and how to change the settings so that my prints won't turn out funny. On the other hand, when the lady in glasses or the bald guy is there, don't go. The lady doesn't know what she's doing. I had to print 10 pages of stuff 2 or 3 times because she wasn't sending my stuff to the right printer or my pictures would turn out super pixelized. I had the bald guy help me and he was nice at first, until I told him that I wasn't happy with the way that my prints came out. Then he was rude and blamed me for not setting my files to the correct settings. Even though I told him that I've been here before so I had already exported my files correctly for printing. Then he told me to just throw them away and he wouldn't charge me for the prints. Then yelled to the other side of the store to the lady (with customers there) saying that I wasn't happy with my prints. Not very professional. read more

So wonderful! The folks here at Copy Central have given me outstanding service. I've used their services for years and followed them over to their new location on Mission St. Recently, I had to scan and OCR a ton of documents and Copy Central did a stellar job. My bookkeeper just asked me for a specific document and I cringed thinking--oh my god am I going to be able to find it?-- Sure enough I opened up the folder they made for me and voila! I found it in less than 30 seconds. Thank you Copy Central! You've taken an entire filing cabinet full of paper and condensed it into an easy to read/find folder that sits quietly in my dropbox! The only place that could tape bind several deliverables that I needed to be tape binded. I went around several Kinkos in the area. The annoying problem was they kept on pointing at each other saying that the other store could tape bind my products when, in fact, they were lying. Here comes Copy Central to the rescue. I walked in expecting nothing. There were a couple of people ahead of me online, but I was relieved when the person on the counter said they can have all my documents tape bound and ready within an hour. I went in, and paid 8 cents / copy self-serve, better than Fedex Office next door, who wanted 10 cents. They also do full-serve for 9.5 cents, while Fedex wanted 13. One significant down side was a $3.00 charge to upload from a memory stick. I hope they can change this soon! The service was a little slow, but very accommodating; I think there was a new fellow at the till. If you can plan two days ahead, though, the price gets quite good: Full service at 6.5 cents / copy or lower. Longer business hours would be great, but I guess that's San Francisco! read more

Came here twice to get some heavy stock color paper copies done. They helped me fixed my originals and helped with the copying. They have a variety of papers of different colors and weights to choose from. They also have computers for you to work on and print stuff from your devices. Unprofessional. Overpriced. Poor printing quality. Rude. The woman who picked up the phone, Ashley, was cheerful and nice. She passed me on to Mike who handled our order. He was not. I called because we were charged $26 to print two (2) postcards. AFTER THE FACT, WITH NO EXPLANATION UP FRONT OF THE CHARGE. $2 or even $5 for a postcard, sure. That makes sense. But $13 PER POSTCARD?! Hence the phone call. This was supposed to be a sample for a large order - most print shops do this as a complimentary service OR tell you what the charge will be (usually $1 - $2). When I called for a clarification as to the reason why we were charged so much (since we do hundreds of thousands of prints per year and were looking for a local shop for this particular asset), the reason given was that there was a setup charge for scaling down the design. Again, understandable - everyone should be compensated for their time. However, when asked why we were not notified if time was needed and/or if the file was not up to standards, the answer: "You should have thought to ask about it... We charge Academy of Art students this same charge all the time when they have to hand in work to their professors... I WOULD HAVE waived it if I knew it was for a large order." No offer to make it right. When I said I was displeased with this results, Mike became very irritable and rude. Do not print with this shop. Ever. read more

Those guys are really nice people. I can see sometimes those works frustrates them but they always try to stay calm and help us the best they can. They do everything, printing and binding. They don't deny anything from me so far. Quick and nicely done job. The price is also reasonable. I'd say though, if you want to get the best out of your photography pictures, you should go to somewhere else like Chum's. My pictures gets a bit harsh in color. No complaining cause I get what I pay for. One exception, the woman is pretty mean. Once I called to ask if they have making appointment. They don't. Okay I know now, but then the woman was like, "No we don't make appointment here." and then hung up the phone right in our conversation. I was so mad and called her back to tell her how rude she was. So...I'm torn. This is a cozy, kind of musty place that seems slightly out of place in this area. It has a family-run feel and is easy to navigate. If you have to use the computer, printer, and fax machine, however, you may pay a pretty penny. After using a PC for 20 minutes, printing 8 pages, and faxing a 4 sheet fax, I had major sticker shock when I was rung up at a whopping $16. Now I'm pretty spoiled- I usually do this sort of thing at work (don't worry, boss, I'm not faxing resumes) or at home, where my roommate is so tech-savvy I almost feel like I should pay him for his frequent tech support ("did you try turning it on and off"?, "is it plugged in?", etc). However, today tech-man wasn't available and we don't really have a fax machine I understand how to use (blonditis...er...bleachitis) and I am on sick leave from work (trust me- it's not as awesome as it sounds). Because I'm spoiled, I don't know how much this sort of thing usually costs. If someone out there does, please drop me a line and let me know if this seems reasonable. Despite the cost, the people here are so incredibly nice and helpful and they operate on the honor system when it comes to the number of copies you've made and such. Old-school style. I love it. It's super close to my house and walking distance even with a walker (told you- sick leave not so awesome...). Again- old school style. Worst customer experience ever. The sales person was new and didn't know what she was doing. She quoted .15 per copy then charged me almost $2.00 per copy because it was color, 2-sided, and on a heavier stock. When I protested, the manager just shrugged and said 'Charge whatever you quoted'. She proceeded to charge me .15 per side + an additional price for the paper. I refused to pay the additional price for the paper since their sample book is clearly marked .15 on that paper stock. She was flustered since new to the job and her manager didn't step in to help at all, or to appeal to me, the customer. Did I mention the quality was mediocre at best? Friendly, helpful, and understanding staff. Low prices, great paper selection. I needed nice card stock, they let me pick my own nice card stock. The machines work, and if there's a snafu, you're not expected to read the manual in order to get your job finished. You use a timecard for computer time, and if your job doesn't print satisfactorily, they don't make you buy additional time to get it right or charge you for the less-than-good copy. It's a bit hectic in here, and not all sanitized-looking like your standard Kinko's. I actually went to the Kinko's across the street first, but there was a line for the computer there and the color copier was out of commision. The guy behind the counter said, "You know, you should go across the street to Copy Central. They have computers there, and they have more than one color machine." The guy inside CC said he gets more customers now, since the Kinko's opened, than he did before. They have free supplies (glue, binder clips, etc.) unlike some other indie copy shops, but the one thing they don't have is a really nice paper cutter, which is why I do certain jobs at Kinko's usually. But I suppose I could print my job at Copy Central and slice up my cards at Kinko's and no one would really know. read more

The first time I came here, I would have given them five stars for the service. I was quoted a really good price and had my job back the same day, much earlier then I had expected. They guy who helped me was super cool and friendly. The second time I came in here, they were severally understaffed. It took me two hours to get my order in and the proof correct. Then, I was quoted a much higher price then I had been given the time before for virtually the same thing. I also had to wait two days to get my job back. Plus, when I came back in to pick up my job, the guy behind the counter was a bit of a jerk. I spend way to much money on my copying/printing services to be taken advantage of price wise and then they want to be rude to me on top of that? Sorry guys, but the second experience I had with you will be my last. I took the same job to Kinkos and they quoted me two hundred dollars less and said they could have to me in four hours.
