I call and got a price for a 24x36 for $40 but when I showed up and got it printed, was $52 and change; maybe I misheard, unlikely. I needed programs for the memorial and got a $3 a piece for quote, $6 for cardstock. I ask about B&W, $0.75 a print, cardstock was $1.25 extra. But somehow $3 for a color printing, I smell a snake. It has been 3 years since I've logged into Yelp to write a review, but thanks to Sam's wonderful help at Pro Copy & Printing, I've come out of retirement to write this review. I called early in the morning to confirm that I could get my booklet printed day-of. Sam confirmed and I headed right over. When I arrived, Sam told me that my file was designed in the wrong order, and he helped me fix my file so that it would print perfectly for a booklet. This process took less than an hour, from start to finish. Sam taught and explained to me the process of printing the booklet, from simply the file set up, to binding the book. I really appreciated him taking the time to work with me and to create an affordable, yet high quality booklet that I had worked so hard to design. It was wonderful see my dream come true and I can't thank Sam enough for his hard work!! Not only is Sam very patient and kind, but he knows what he's doing and he goes out of his way to do it right for you, while still handling other customers and fulfilling his orders in time. True story! The two staff members here are amazing! I love the fact that they don't hoover around you and you're left to do what you need. But when you need them, they're right there to help you out! They're very sweet and helpful, which makes the cost efficient and exceptional service the thing that keeps me coming back. It is HUGE inside and there's also their cultural music playing in the back ground and incenses burning nearby. When you walk it, there's about 5 self copiers and fliers everywhere telling you the price for what and that. For five cents a copy, at least minimum of 25 cents, that's pretty much the sweetest deal for copying around! I love coming because the machines are easy to use and whenever my total comes out,m it's usually cheaper than I except it to be! They're very trusting when it comes to count. They usually just ask you how many, SO BE HONEST. But if you make huge loads of copies, they also have a counter in the copier to know for sure. In addition to self copying, they offer for 6cents per copy to do it for you, as well as making banners, books, doing binding, menus, and etc. Great terms when it comes to pricing and they never pressure you. The place is super clean, though parking is a bit of a drag in Downtown Oakland. Fair pricing and friendly-helpful staff really makes everything better. Not everybody is copying machine smarts, so it's good that there's knowledgeable people there to help you. I know they take both cash and card, so you're in luck! Whenever you're in need of a place for copies, Pro Copy& Printing get it done! Plus, I love helping out a local vendor instead of a Kinkos or something. Thank you for the last minute jobs that are ready the same day. Sure there's a premium for that kind of procrastination but the quality is always top notch and done right. Thus far its been full color postcards and a beautiful vinyl banner. Sure it would have been cheaper at some mass market printer, but will they do the job in just two hours? I came in here to mass produce my hand written Christmas letter cartoon in color. Honestly, I didn't give a rip about the quality, just wanted something quick and dirty. The staff however, cared a great deal, and I got a better product than I bargained for (great paper and beautiful imagery) at a reasonable price. I've gotten excellent work here in the past but not today. I asked to have some of my flat artwork to be digitally scanned and my scans were very low quality and poorly executed. I was going to use these scans for my professional website and absolutely cannot use them for that; I could've spent 1/3 of the price and got the same low quality scans done at my local print shop. I wrote a novel and wanted proper copies of the manuscript. Nothing fancy, just copied and spiraled. 467 pages. I tell dude this. "Fifteen cents per page," he says with a straight face. I try to make sense of that. "Do you mean, per sheet of paper? Or per side?" "Per side. Per page. Fifteen cents." We do the math. Seventy dollars. Per. And that is just the copying. The binding is of course extra. I am still trying to pretend we are on Earth. "I need more than one copy. Is there a discount...?" Dude looks around the room and obviously pulls a number out of the air. "Discount after ... like ... 20 copies." Wow. Wow. Pro Copy is close to my job, and I wanted to make this a quick errand. I have more money than time. But this was an insult. I don't know what else to call it. So I thanked him and left and I did what I should have done in the first place, which was go to Copygrafik in Berkeley. (I will be writing a review for Copygrafik next.) Maybe a year ago they printed and bound an earlier draft of this same book without robbing me. Three cents a page at Copygrafik. Three cents a page. I picked up my copies the next day, today. They are beautiful. The whole entire job, 5 bound copies of a 467-page novel, cost me $100. Fifteen cents a page is fine if you need a quick copy of your phone bill or something, but either Pro Copy doesn't want to copy more than 100 pages for anyone or they figure that if nine people walk back out like I did and they rob the tenth one it is worth it. They may be right about that. I saved over $250 by taking 30 extra minutes to go 4 BART stops and back. read more

I have this really awful habit of 'biting off more than I can chew'. A simple group project about comparing the poetry of Walt Whitman and Philip Levine turned into a mock 'wedding' complete with a program and CD wedding favor. But what makes that aforementioned habit even worse is my propensity to procrastinate. Yeah... I say "FML" and face-palm on the regular. In any event, I stayed up all of Wednesday night and part of Thursday morning burning 45, 16 song long CDs. My first class started at 9:35 that morning and I didn't think that I was going to be able to make copies of the program, one poem, the CD jewel case inserts, AND the CD labels in time. But that was because I didn't fully comprehend the fact that ninjas work at Pro Copy. I got to Pro Copy a little before 8 am AND THEY WERE OPEN!!! I walked in and immediately went to the self-service copiers, perfectly ready to fumble around with the copiers until I figured out how to make the copies (I had brought along Memorex pre-made paper for CD inserts and labels). But before I made a hot mess of everything, this guy comes around and asks if I need help. Heck YES! I explained what I wanted and even though I showed him what I wanted copies of, he asked if I had digital copies so that the quality would be better (the originals that I had brought in were from my awful inkjet printer). How awesome of a gesture was that? Luckily enough I had everything on a flash drive and he was able to print out really high quality originals. Then he made sure to check which ones I wanted in color or just plain black and white. Once we got that and the number of copies sorted out, he went and ran one copy of each thing so that he could check to see if I liked the way everything lined up. I LOOOVED IT!!! After the copies were done, he rang me up and gave me bags for everything. MUCHHH cheaper than FedEx/Kinkos and the service was sooo great. It probably took you longer to read this review than it did for him to make all of those copies. I got there at around 7:55 and as I checked me watch on my way out I was so surprised to see that it was only a little past 8. I can't recommend Pro Copy enough! read more

If you look up "customer service" in the dictionary, there is a picture of Pro Copy & Printing next to the definition. On a Friday afternoon, we were packing up for an art show the next morning. After an arduous slog producing pieces to sell at the show, we hadn't noticed that our booth banner was very much worse for wear. In a panic, I dug around through our pile of unmarked CDs and USB drives desperately in search of our print-ready artwork, luckily found the files, and headed over to Pro-Copy at around 2pm. By 5pm, they had re-sized my image to fit the banner size, printed a proof for me to approve, and then printed the final version and attached the grommets. The first few times I went to Pro-Copy I had very positive customer experiences, but it seemed like as I continued to go there they were less thrilled about me coming, scrutinized my self-service copier use, and finally charged me double the posted rate for my B&W self-service copies, supposedly for using too much toner. My quandary was, how could you know how much toner I was using if you didn't look at my originals or at my finished copies? Do other customers get last minute add-on charges or was I just lucky? I didn't really understand it, but my arty pamphlets and comic books had me profiled! (Even though I never abused the copier and used it exactly in the way it was intended.) I guess that my presence constituted some kind of threat to their business model. Guilty of being goth and knowing how to use a photocopier, I guess. I live in Oakland and love supporting small businesses here, plus the machines are well-maintained. I probably would have continued going there, but it was pretty much made clear to me that the proprietor didn't want me around unless I was going to get high-volume full-service jobs. I was a repeat customer, but not the right sort. It's pretty obvious that they don't want me to use their equipment, so I'll go some where else. This whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I try to have good client relationships and sticking with the same businesses for services, but oh well. read more

They helped me format my images that I brought in on a USB drive, they helped me pick out card stock, drove to pick up special envelopes, and every step of the way were friendly, attentive, and casual. Service here is top notch. I went down to Pro Copy & Printing this Friday afternoon to get some posters and half-page fliers made for an event at Haddon Hill Cafe in Oakland (StorySlam!). The people here are awesome! Paula took my flash drive and created large and small sized copies from the pdf's I had ready for her. She was super fast, super nice and I was in and out of there in less than half an hour. It would have taken me way longer to resize my documents to accomplish what she did in just a few minutes. She didn't even charge me for a few extra copies after I'd changed my mind about the color paper. I'd definitely recommend Pro Copy & Printing over any of those big-name chain copy stores. Only caveat: they are only open on weekdays during normal business hours so you have to be aware of that. But hey, it's nice to know these awesome people have a life, too! read more

For cheaper than Kinkos I got a printing job completed with excellent customer service and no extra charge for them printing out my documents, stapling them, etc. I just had to print out outlines for some studying I had to do, but I didn't want to print out hundreds of pages at home. So I brought my flash drive (usb) here with my outlines, and gave it to them. THEY printed it out double sided, stapled, with NO Extra charge! Dude, at Kinkos you have to pay to get on the computer to print out your stuff, and pay per page. All I paid here was around 10 cents per page. Because I had to print so many pages they gave me a discount to ten cents a page. And they organized them, printed them out for me, and gave me all the personal service you don't expect from Kinkos. Without any of Kinko's extra charges! All this wonderful service, just for my own little outlines! If you don't have a printer and need print papers, this place is amazing. I just printed my VERY FIRST set of chapbooks at Pro Copy & Printing!!! The quality is so beautiful and everyone was so helpful and friendly. I did not catch the name of the gentleman who helped me (sorry! I'm so shy!) but he not only worked with me to get my file pretty for printing, he gave me great advice and spent a ton of time working with me even though the shop got busy.
