I used this UPS store for many years when I lived in Oakland - for product returns, notary services, passport photos, and even shipping things abroad. In every instance, they provided prompt and courteous service and, in many cases, went out of their way to help me understand the complexities of things like international shipping and the protocols for visa applications. My wife has a business box at this UPS Store, among other reasons that's good to have a Downtown Oakland address as her business address. There isn't a whole much to comment about, which is good, in instances of a UPS Store ... no news is good news, meaning no lost packages outgoing or incoming. Location is very convenient, but, the young man that works there is so rude. I mean very unprofessional. I brought in a package with specific instructions to UPS. Label needed to go into UPS slip and not tapped. Brought the box in untapped/sealed. Got scolded by this kid for not tapping up my box (never a problem before, website says THEY will box, pack and seal for you) then he was angry for not taping the label on. I mean for real. It says clear as spring water, must go inside UPS clear pocket. So I pointed it out and he just stood there, stating at me. Then he actually dismissed me. The people who work there were very nice as they explained to me that there was a $5+ charge to print out a pregenerated UPS label. They explained that the owner of this franchise chose to charge for this. I sell on eBay and I've used this UPS Store more times than I can count. But the last I went there the service rep started to put a very expensive and delicate item in a big box with no packing - I had to stop her as she was about to tape the box. Maybe they remembered that episode because today they wanted to used massively oversized boxes - around 10 times the volume of the items to be shipped - thoroughly stuff it with packing, and charge me more than any UPS Store has ever charged me. At least one person working with me was obviously new. I get that service workers are stretched thin right now but I'm trying to take care of business and this wasn't acceptable. Best location yet! Since I come here once a week now, I feel like I should probably give them a review. Everyone who works here has always been extremely helpful, attentive and detail oriented. They greet you upon arrival, come to check in while I'm going through my packages and offer their advice about shipping. I get anxious when parking in Downtown Oakland but there is plenty of street parking and a parking garage right across the street. I'm always in and out of there in less than a half hour which is a win in my book. Lines are never long either because everyone who works here is so fast at what they do. This is the WORST UPS store I have even to. The young Latina behind the counter was beyond condescending and aggressive for no reason.

I was met with instant hostility and treated with contempt the second I walked in the door. It was hurtful and degrading, and also I wasn't actually getting helped. So I left. As an experiment, I went to a nearby UPS and asked the exact same question. No problem, we discussed my options and I got to a solution. So I know it's not me. Traveling from out of town and had limited options for print/notary service. Was charged 10x the price that they quoted me for print services. The "customer service" rep Susana was rude and unprofessional. I simply asked a question regarding why she quoted me .5 and then charged me .55 per page and she brusquely said "I already told you twice." The notary didn't explain anything and again, the pricing was unclear. Susana needs retraining and attitude adjustment. After reading the other reviews, it's a wonder this place is still in business. The worst UPS store I've ever been to with the rudest staff - especially the Hispanic lady who works there everyday. She yells at every customer. For example, someone was standing next to the door because of the long line so it caused the door alert to keep ringing. Instead of telling the customer nicely, she yelled at the individual calling him stupid and demanding that they move aside. Another time, she lost it because someone put the box in the wrong place. It's truly sad to see some people treat others this way with absolutely no understanding and patience for the fellow human being. And sad to see a reputable business suffer from irresponsible staff like this. To re-iterate, the poor experience stems from the lady who works there. Holy goodness! I needed to mail a package to my god kids asap. It's their Christmas presents, and would hate to disappoint these twin 5-year olds and their 3-year old brother! They have to open their gifts on Christmas Day, right?!? Dreading going to the post office, I opted instead to hit up the UPS Store. This was my first time ever shipping a Christmas package via UPS (crazy, no?) So, I walked in yesterday afternoon at 2pm and was shocked to discover no lines. *Yes, you read correctly, NO LINES!* I was also surprised to see more employees than customers. At first I thought this was a dream, but infact, it wasn't! Awesomeness!! I had two friendly and helpful people UPS staffers. Think one of them was a newbie as he asked several questions regarding my shipment to the other, but whateves. Delivery of the ground shipped package (where I can track online) should be within 2 days (barring any weather or other delays), so the kiddies can open their presents on Christmas Day! Yipee! While I have used this location a bunch of times for pre-paid label Amazon returns, I tried having them pack and ship an item. It was a mistake because I paid a huge amount of money to 'fragile-pack' a rolling suitcase and as far as the tracking number is concerned it hasn't left their location but they said it went out and my best recourse was to simply call the 800 number and open a claim. No offers to help in any way and basically skirted the ownership of the situation. Guess I will have to pack my items personally and not expect any customer care. read more

On a Saturday morning, I made a stop here to drop off a package. I was 10 minutes early prior to opening waiting out front and the doors opened 10 minutes late past their posted business hours. It could've been worse and luckily I was not short on time. I've only found street parking out front. There maybe more, but didn't have luck finding any alternatives. They quoted me over $23 just to pack a small box, when the item value was $30. So I say I buy the box, and pack myself, but they wouldn't even give me a tape; I would have to buy it myself. And then, I used their computer to print the label. It was Windows NT (super out of date and difficult to use), and I even got a mental breakdown after using that shit. It wasn't free, I wasn't clear about the price, but I think it would be around $2/$3 (use + print). And then in my bank account, $20 was held by UPS. What the hell? Hope I get it back. I've had some of my most unpleasant experiences with UPS at this UPS store because of the front desk clerk, Carmen Ramirez. I've visited this store on multiple occasions and have somehow always run into her. The first time I was returning an Amazon package and she yelled at people in line to step back because it was triggering the door senor. Yelled. Another time I came to send a package. Rather than ask what I was in for, she screamed at me to go print out a return label before coming. Screamed. I set the box down to let her know that I wanted to send the package somewhere and do that I did not already have a label set up. She shrieked as if I had said something that was a personal affront and demanded that I move my box as she was cleaning the counter (no evidence of this). Honestly fearful that my package may not be lost....These encounters are simply unacceptable for the UPS brand and I certainly will not be returning to this specific location. We shipped a glass vacuum chamber to an individual in Wisconsin. When it arrived, it was broken. We immediately filed an insurance claim. It took UPS five weeks to process the claim, and it was unnecessarily time consuming for us. By that time, the package had been moved to Minnesota (to the original owner), and the receiver (in Wisconsin) had to drive for two hours to retrieve it, so he could have it at the original location for examination. UPS picked up the package (for examination) in Wisconsin and denied the claim, but never let us know. They shipped it all the way back to Oakland, then called us to say that it was denied. I give them one star, not because a package was broken, but because they shipped a broken package across the country without reason, and feel this is an injustice to the environment. read more

I have the item I need to return. It's in the box it came in last week. And I even have a prepaid shipping label. Should be a no-brainer, right? My old UPS Store in DC - Columbia Heights - would have me email the shipping label to them when I dropped the box off. Boom. Done. Deuces. At this joint, they want to charge you $2 to email them the label, some small handful of change to print it, and then they want to sell you an additional box and packing tape because - of course - the box the mis-sized shoes arrived in last week simply isn't shippable via UPS (this week?). This store is much more interested in cashing in on its uptown location to nickel-and-dime you than they are in quick, easy customer interactions. read more
