I have been a long time customer of Mel's Place. I love there new building however I would gladly go back to their crowded old building to get the food and service that I used to get. The service today was exceptionally poor and for the third time in a row my order was incorrect. Whoever is doing the cooking is not doing a very good job. The crowds will soon disappear if things don't improve. read more

The only way you can tell from the outside what to expect is by the number of trucks on the outside. I went in and didn't know if I should seat my self. I guess since there's not a sign indicating one way or the other I should just seat myself, I'll know for next time. Service was great I like to finish my tea without topping it off so I don't have to add sweetener. But she kept ask and I like that. The food was really good, I had chicken fried steak with cut french fries and fried okra and tea. It came with a very tender biscuit. The steak was very tender too. Over all it was a very pleasant experience and I highly reccommend Mels Place. My only regret is I had paid with cash and only had enough to tip 10%. Not to worry next time I will make up for that and there will be a next time. read more

Sorry they need to go back to the small building. We went there on Saturday it took over an hour to get our food and we never got our biscuits and graving. When we informed them the waiter said oh we ran out and in its place he gave us a piece of toast?!?!? Sorry.. but at least give two pieces. Won't be going here for a while. I have been to Mel's twice now. Once for lunch and once for breakfast. Lunch was chicken-fried steak, with mashed potatoes and macaroni salad. Breakfast was the two egg scramble with sausage and jalapenos(fresh not jarred). My wife had the French toast, which she says was the best she has ever eaten. We will be back. read more

Worst service ever. Called to place a to go order and they put me on hold and laid the phone down for 10 min. I hung up after that and had to call back. I placed a small order (literally 4 items) and it was to be 20-25 min which was fine. I showed up after 30 min and was told they were working on it. I came back inside after 15 more min and was told they were working on it. I waited inside an additional 15 min for them to bring me my order and 1/2 was missing. HALF!! 2 out of 4 items were missing and they just said ...."oh I guess the cooks missed it." They didn't even offer to make my items which was good bc I would have had to wait another hour I imagine and since I ordered breakfast around 10 and it was now past 11:30 .... what is the point. For a small town business it sure was inconsiderate and disrespectful overall. read more

I love this place. It's a little diner in the middle of Boyd, Texas. Totally local, not even a question. I feel stupid even writing "local" here bc it's a given. Anything in this location would be. Lots of really interesting regional foods that I was excited to try. I even brought a menu home as a souvenir. I would totally come here again and again and again. We came based strictly off the reviews. For starters we had the jalapeños filled with cream cheese, very good. I tried the catfish and although I can't say it was the best I've ever had ,it was good, but a couple pieces had that muddy taste lbut the seasoning was very good. My sides were pinto beans , which were great, and fried squash very good also. Hubby had a burger he said was very good along with a side of fresh cut fries and they were excellent! The sweet tea could of been a tad bit sweeter, but that's just a personal thing for me. I also ordered the coconut cream ,it was good but question that its actually a "home made" pie, i know a great pie when i taste one. The reason I didn't give it a 5 star was mainly due to the fact of a cigarette can full of butts in it right by the entrance, not the first thing you want to see as to go in to eat. I'm sure we will eat here again ,and it's definitely worth it to at least give it a try. read more

I came here and had the chicken fingers and omg they were the best I have had. Their honey mustard was amazing and the meat in the chicken fingers were nice and thick. A lot of places have too much breading and not enough meat but not Mel's place. It is cozy seating but the food is worth it! We will be back! read more

We arrived at 10:25 and the sign says to seat yourself. We couldn't seat ourselves as all the tables that would be available to us we're dirty and needed to be bussed. We were approaced from across the room and the waitress was able to see what we needed for accommodations and bussed a table for us. The waitress never stopped again. She did however in passing asked if we were ready to order and kept walking. We still do not have drinks at this time. 6minutes after being seated we are ordering our food. The wait for the food was extremely difficult as I have 3 small children that were hungry and growing more hungry with every passing minute. Literally an hour after we ordered our nice waitress let us know that our ticket had just started to be cooked. At 11:13 we finally recieved our food. My kids got the pancakes with 1 meat. My son that received bacon was so over cooked it broke in half like timber. I ordered and omelette that looked great however that was not the case for the taste. As soon as I took my first bite I couldn't chew the bacon. The bacon was so tough I had to pull out the pieces that I could find. It also had a funky taste to it. I made a bacon pile on the side of my plate. I know what you're thinking, "then just leave!" Well I was really hungry and didn't want to go through the drama of canceling our order and putting an 8yr old, 3yr old, and a 2yr old back in the car starving. they were very hungry and bored. Then at the end my husband asked a man if he was the manager's, and he replied no my sister is this is her place. She was nowhere in sight when the debacle of our visit down. So her brother blamed it on her and her inept kitchen staff, as apparently he knows and has addressed it with her. For all our trouble we were given a 20% discount. An hour and half after arriving we were able to leave. I have been in the food service industry for 10+ years and am shocked at our visit. I will not be going back any time soon. read more

My husband and I had passed it several times in the afternoons after they had already closed, but finally made it in for breakfast one weekend needless to say it now has become our favorite. My husband myself and baby son went here to eat. We were seated and asked what we would like to drink we both said Dr Pepper the waitress walked away.... about 5 minutes later she came back and asked if we were ready to order but that breakfast was over... I said ok but can we get our drinks she laughed a little and said ha ha I forgot left again then came back with our drinks.. we placed our order and didn't see our waitress for a little while both our drinks were empty as she finally came back around she said sorry were getting all of our breakfast orders out before we start our lunch orders..... ummm ok so why didn't you let us know this before we placed our order??? My son who is 9 months was a bit fussy we had already been here 30 minutes waiting so I stopped our waitress and said can you at least bring my son his mashed potatoes she said let me check... comes back and said it's gonna be a little bit they are still getting breakfast out!!! I just looked at her in disbelief I mean I'm sure the mashed potatoes were already made and warmed up all she had to do was walk back there and put them in a dang bowl if the cook is that backed up! I finally asked her if it was gonna be another 30-40 minutes and all she said was I mean you can wait or leave.... so I just smiled and said yeah I think we're gonna leave... she said don't worry about the drinks and I replied back oh don't worry I wasn't!!! We ended up going to Azle Cafe where we were greeted very nicely ordered our breakfast and got my sons mashed potatoes because our waitress walked into the kitchen and got his bowl for him!! read more

Mel's place has the best home cooking. My kids love the Mickey Mouse pancakes! The Banana pudding is incredible. There are great menu options and everything has always tasted delicious! Atmosphere is very friendly and family oriented and reasonably priced!:-) read more
