I would like some gluten free options if I'm being honest It's becoming too common now for people requesting gluten free choices. I know it can be annoying to some, but it does suck for those who have an intolerance or celiac's Food: forgot the name of the skillet I got, but it was good. A typical breakfast skillet lol Prices: another $20 or less, per person, after drink. Coffee was okay. When you've ate at one local breakfast spot, then you've ate at all of them. They all get their ingredients from the same suppliers lol Environment: very big, lot of space. Will fit a lot of people! Service: waitress was nice. I tend to not get the best of service since I'm always by myself when I go eat lol it's becoming a trend everywhere I go.

Went back here yet again for another trip for work! Parking lot has been fixed, the restaurant has been remodeled, and the food is quite delicious!!! FIVE STARS!!!

I had a "baby sprinkle" with a few girlfriends for dinner and we had been told the new Cafe was a great place to meet up! I wanted breakfast for dinner, so my order was the Berry Delight. It boasts of fresh strawberries and maybe there are fresh strawberries, but the syrup that they are in is definitely not homemade (as a heads up). I am not complaining, just have to be careful with sugar intake so I had to push some of the syrup off my French toast. Service was alright, our waitress was not rude or anything. We could sense she was ready to hurry up and be done with us or was in the middle of something else. That's okay, food arrived hot and all at the same time which was awesome! The owner came over to our table and congratulated me, that was super sweet. Oh, there is a food of the day posted on the wall in case you were wondering. I would like to come back and try the chicken fried chicken, more of that delicious cornbread and some sweet tea with my family, hopefully very soon!

This is the newest local greasy spoon in town, and it honestly started off strong -- which makes the recent slide even more disappointing. The chicken fried steak, which has been heavily promoted, came out gummy and not crispy at all. These are pre-seasoned and pre-breaded and just need to go in the fryer, so something clearly went wrong. The hashbrowns were soft and undercooked, bordering on raw. The mac and cheese somehow tasted like fish water, which was... concerning. The soft scrambled eggs were completely overcooked, and the breakfast bowl was filled with what felt like the grisly, chewy leftovers of other meats. We ended up leaving over 80% of the food untouched, which says everything. On the way out, someone at the front told my wife, "Well, you should have come and told us." But at some point, it's not the customer's job to manage quality control. When that many items miss the mark, it's a kitchen problem, not a communication problem. There's potential here, but right now it feels like it's going in the wrong direction. 2 Stars, but I hope they turn it around!

Top notch customer service. Everything made to order. Ordered the breakfast combo. The ambiance and decor are welcoming and attractive. The music is good. And I like that an AC isn't blowing directly on me and yet the room has an acceptable temperature to it. The booths and tables aren't affixed to the floor which is a huge plus because I'm a large guy and that allowed me to enjoy a bench for a change. You will have to use the table salt which is a good thing as that prevents over-salting. There enough food in what I ordered to get two people. Very good deal.

    Chicken fried steak was Excellent.

New place with a full parking lot every time we go by so though we would try it for lunch today. Seated right away even though it was busy. Nice decor, colorful and spotless. The buzz of conversation was a good sign and then we passed by the bake counter and saw these beautiful cream pies, we bought a piece of coconut cream when we checked out. A busy server stopped and took our drink order within a minute of sitting down. They a have a large sign in the dining rooms that show daily specials, about seven of them today ranging from chicken fried steak, meat loaf, to fried chicken livers. The server took our order and my wife decided to get the chicken fried steak special and I had one of the bacon burgers. The special, for $12.99, was a huge piece of chicken fried steak with nice, crispy breading. Seasoned very well, both the meat and the breading which has a slight pepperiness to it. Mashed potatoes and a creamy gravy with roasted vegetables. She could only eat a third of it so I get some for leftovers tomorrow!! My burger was a different story. The breading which was nice, a square bun with great texture that held up to the eating process without falling apart. Vegetables were fresh and crisp, so what went wrong? No condiments at all on the burger, I had to ask for mayonnaise and there was a bottle of ketchup on the table but no mustard anywhere. The real problem was the thick, medium well hamburger patty. I could not taste any seasoning at all; no salt, pepper, butter, or anything other than the plain hamburger beef taste. It is a shame for such a well put together burger to not even have a light sprinkle of salt and pepper. I took one star for that but almost added it back for the fries. They say they are hand cut but they are thin, almost like matchstick fries. I decided not to since they are soft, with no crispiness at all. Our server was great, the pie was great, the special was great and the meatloaf special I saw at the table next to me will bring me back.

Food, service, and ambiance is on point at the Blue mound Cafe! Awesome options and the biscuits are delicious!! Waitresses are very kind and personable. If i were to give any suggestions it would be give a little more attention to the restrooms, not nasty but could definitely use a wipe down every hour or so. I only seen the mens restroom. My wife said women's bathroom was nice and clean. That makes sense cause i only seen women working here.

Service was great. There were a ton of people and we only waited 10 minutes for a party of 3. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. Prices are average and fair. We had dinner. Everything was decent. No issues with the food at all. It just didn't stand out as amazing. We had the fried cheese appetizer, hometown burger, shrimp basket and the blue mound ribeye. If you like crispy crunchy fries, these might not be for you, they are home style. We will go back. I'm looking forward to try breakfast.

#2 - eggs over medium, sausage patties, hashbrowns, 1 biscuit and gravy. I like to stack my food on top of the biscuits

We had coffees that were typical diner coffee and pretty good. We ordered the chorizo burrito, breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, and the skillets. It was all hot fresh and very good. I will definitely get that burrito again and the hash-browns were so good! Crispy and buttery. We hung out for a little bit catching up (they had slowed down and no one was waiting) and they didn't try to rush us and still gave us great service. I'll be honest, I've never even heard of tzatziki on an omelette, but I'm here to tell you... I'm here for it! You want a Gyro meat omelette, cooked to absolute perfection, a 1/2 a mile high, with Gyro meat in it... and tzatziki sauce too? If this is your flavor profile, this place is worth the drive! In the words of my wife, and to the waitress and the owner... this is the Best omelette I have ever had! Here again in 5 months on our way to San Diego…read more It's a Sunday, just before 8am. It is busy. Guess we're late as everyone is already halfway through their breakfast. Again this place is clean & neat despite the breakfast crowd. Our server was friendly and prompt with coffee and water. Today we ordered the Ryan's omelet and chicken fried steak. The omelette serving is big! Very generous amounts of ingredients and chunky size too! Love it! The chicken fried steak is huge! I think it's more a sharing size but if you're hungry, it's perfect for you. I'm pretty sure there'll be leftover.

Not a lot of "atmosphere" per se. Drinks were ordered and delivered promptly. Breakfast order took a minute; there seemed to be some confusion over which server was taking our table. BIL ordered one of the local breakfasts with all the usual: eggs, grits, toast, bacon. I opted for the veggie omelet with home fries and toast. Order took no time to be delivered. BIL finished his, and mine was the perfect portion. I hate having leftovers but this was not an overstuffed omelet, so I made short work of it. Home fries were a bit bland, but veggies in omelet were just right. Getting out of here was a challenge. Once food was delivered, we were able to watch servers talking while our drinks ran dry, and getting the check took a minute. It was good, reasonably priced and no leftovers gives it the 4-stars instead of 3, but once I'm done with breakfast, I have things to do, so no 5-stars on this one. I'm going to skip this on my next trip to Texas.

The squeeze and I split a two meat plate with brisket and sausage and two sides, cowboy cole slaw and Rooster Tails (Deep fried onion petals). The brisket was moist and very tender, with a slight smokiness. The sausage was deeply smoked, sliced in half and charred a bit on the flattop. The slaw and Rooster Tails were really good. A nice slightly spicy dip was served with the onions. Good BBQ sauce for the brisket, and they also had a wall of pain with some choice hot sauces on it. A Total Jackpot for Foodies and History Buffs Alike!…read more Just a bit off the main square in Decatur sits an absolute treasure that completely blew us away. We happened upon The Whistle Stop quite by accident, and it instantly became one of our favorite finds. The location itself is pure Americana gold. It sits right next to the iconic, 1930s-era Petrified Wood Gas Station--a stunning roadside marvel covered entirely in mineralized stone. Standing there, you can practically feel the history. It's legendary as a spot where Bonnie and Clyde allegedly laid low, and it even caught the eye of Hollywood when Michael Bay directed Faith Hill's sweeping "There You'll Be" music video for the movie Pearl Harbor right on the property. But as spectacular as the local lore is, the kitchen matches it note for note. The Whistle Stop is a beloved local favorite for a reason, serving up phenomenal, honest comfort food. Brian went with a classic BLT, and it was perfect--crispy, smoky bacon, perfectly fresh lettuce, and ripe tomatoes on toasted bread that hit every single nostalgic note you want from a diner staple. I opted for the gorgeous grilled chicken salad, which was a knockout. The chicken was wonderfully seasoned, exceptionally juicy, and served over a bed of incredibly crisp, vibrant greens. It is rare to find a spot where legendary American history meets truly excellent, fresh, everyday cooking. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a fan of classic road trips, or just someone looking for a spectacular lunch, this place is an absolute must-visit. We were thrilled by our lucky discovery, and we will definitely be making a point to come back!
