Top notch food, serving size and staff!!! Clean and remodeled. I definitely will return.

Superb biscuits with melted butter on top.

Late breakfast on a weekday and the place was pretty crowded. Super clean, newly opened with an open kitchen which was also spotless. Take a seat, the server met us a couple minutes after sitting down, took our drink order and when he delivered the drinks, the waitress took our order. Nice menu; breakfast and lunch, with very nice prices. I order the chicken fried steak breakfast with scrambled eggs, hash browns and biscuits. My wife had the chicken and waffles. First the chicken and waffles, they were outstanding with some of the best tasting chicken I've ever had. Two large pieces of breast meat that was moist, crispy on the outside, a waffle with broken pieces of bacon inside. The waffles were very good but the chicken, sublime! My order was large, standard piece of beef with a crispy breading and a good white gravy. The eggs were excellent, fluffy and not cooked to death as many do. The hashbrown were the shredded kind with good flavor and cooked perfectly. The star was the biscuit delivered with melted butter on top. It looked like a dinner roll but the inside was a soft, fluffy biscuit. So, good my wife stole one from me. Great food, great service, and a spotlessly clean dining room makes for repeat visits for sure. Restrooms were super clean.

Great breakfast and lunch selections. Reasonably priced also! I had the eggs Benedict with a hot coffee! It was delicious!

We all laughed great time, and heck we hadn't even had anything to drink. However, the bar down the street had an eight-year-old standing outside not sure which was funnier. If this waitress recommends things to you, don't trust her she lied about all of it. She said she hadn't tried anything, but she liked it. Best thing to eat the cheese sticks, they be some thick old boys!

It was a rare beautiful day in December and chose to sit on the nice porch. The server was right there and grabbed our drink orders first. She recommended the fried pickles so we got those to start. Loved the fried pickles. Plenty of them and great crispy texture, Along with just tasted good. I chose the mushroom onion burger and substituted onion rings. Only a $1.99 upcharge. I was hoping it would taste as good as it looked when she brought it out. It did! Those onion rings were huge Abe cooked perfectly! The burger was cooked well and tasted good. My only minor complaint is I hate it when a bun overshadows the burger patty. Make the patty slightly bigger. But it tasted really good! I'll come back here again!

We had coffees that were typical diner coffee and pretty good. We ordered the chorizo burrito, breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, and the skillets. It was all hot fresh and very good. I will definitely get that burrito again and the hash-browns were so good! Crispy and buttery. We hung out for a little bit catching up (they had slowed down and no one was waiting) and they didn't try to rush us and still gave us great service. I will definitely try this place again while in the area!

This is the hottest, and best breakfast in the Wise county area right now! Ambiance matters, and the radio had Dolly, Willie, Waylon and Hank in the first 30 min! For a guy like me, I'm sold! You just can't beat the Solid Gold country! Who would've thought I'd have a culinary first in Decatur, Texas. I'll be honest, I've never even heard of tzatziki on an omelette, but I'm here to tell you... I'm here for it! You want a Gyro meat omelette, cooked to absolute perfection, a 1/2 a mile high, with Gyro meat in it... and tzatziki sauce too? If this is your flavor profile, this place is worth the drive! In the words of my wife, and to the waitress and the owner... this is the Best omelette I have ever had! As a certified snob, who has eaten omelettes on at least 3 continents, she knows what she's talking about! And, as the waitress told us... the biscuits stand on their own! Stellar! Go look at the picture! I've said it a thousand time on YELP! Simple food, done well, by people who really care, is a formula that cannot be beaten! 5 STARS PS.... wait for the buffalo chicken sandwich review which I'll be looking to post in the next week... I cannot wait!!

A Total Jackpot for Foodies and History Buffs Alike!…read more Just a bit off the main square in Decatur sits an absolute treasure that completely blew us away. We happened upon The Whistle Stop quite by accident, and it instantly became one of our favorite finds. The location itself is pure Americana gold. It sits right next to the iconic, 1930s-era Petrified Wood Gas Station--a stunning roadside marvel covered entirely in mineralized stone. Standing there, you can practically feel the history. It's legendary as a spot where Bonnie and Clyde allegedly laid low, and it even caught the eye of Hollywood when Michael Bay directed Faith Hill's sweeping "There You'll Be" music video for the movie Pearl Harbor right on the property. But as spectacular as the local lore is, the kitchen matches it note for note. The Whistle Stop is a beloved local favorite for a reason, serving up phenomenal, honest comfort food. Brian went with a classic BLT, and it was perfect--crispy, smoky bacon, perfectly fresh lettuce, and ripe tomatoes on toasted bread that hit every single nostalgic note you want from a diner staple. I opted for the gorgeous grilled chicken salad, which was a knockout. The chicken was wonderfully seasoned, exceptionally juicy, and served over a bed of incredibly crisp, vibrant greens. It is rare to find a spot where legendary American history meets truly excellent, fresh, everyday cooking. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a fan of classic road trips, or just someone looking for a spectacular lunch, this place is an absolute must-visit. We were thrilled by our lucky discovery, and we will definitely be making a point to come back!

Very friendly welcome when we walked in the door. The nice lady at the counter walked us through the process and explained the menu. In order the fish and shrimp combo with tater tots and it came with a "salad bar" and pinto beans. The salad was really fixings for a sandwich or burger and some sauces. My Wife ordered their famous cheeseburger that appears to have won "Best Burger" many times by the plaques on the wall, and their onions rings. Everything is made fresh so we waited about 15 minutes while sitting in the dining room with a great view of Lake Bridgeport. Food was delivered and it looked great and smelled good. My fish was crispy, with a cornmeal batter that was seasoned very elk and it tasted GREAT! The shrimp has a panko breading that was crispy and cured my craving for fried shrimp.Tots nice and crispy, maybe just a little too crispy, but they were very good. Large portions for sure. Our appetizer was a jalapeño sausage, wrapped in bacon and topped with melted cheese. Wow! Excellent pop, not too spicy and the flavors melded great together. The cheeseburger was a short rib grind burger patty, thick and full size. Taste was excellent but the firm texture of the short rib meat may surprise you. The star of the burger was the bun; jalapeño bread reminiscent of a Shlotskys sandwich bread but nice and soft. I could eat just an order of those buns. Overall food 5 stars. The dining room a solid 4 stars as it is showing it's age but we will visit again the get of their great, well priced food.
