Whistle Stop, what to say. I think it has had a few name changes over the years. We used to go fairly frequently but lately it just has not been what we keep hoping it will be. We mainly stop for breakfast so lunches etc may be a different experience. In our last visit, the food was ok, but not great. Little things like the bacon being in a pile of pieces. Makes one think it was cooked earlier and reheated. Things like that. Yes, I know places do that, but if they are going to, then they need to do it better. Maybe it was just an off day, I know some reviewers really like the place. I am on the fence about giving them another try. read more

Super cute tiny roadside cafe in Decatur. Breakfast biscuits were delicious and fluffy. Their simple breakfast fare was quite fulfilling, service was prompt but the small old-town atmosphere was awesome. Truly enjoyed this spot on our way around Texas! Also: there's a super cute gas station with old fashioned pumps next door perfect for a photo op!! We are headed that way once we're done with our gravy. I see some wholesome pies on the counter over there... but we are too full to try them today- bummer! They have cherry, apple, Pecan, chocolate, coconut, buttermilk and banana pudding!! Pretty good options! ** we found out that this cafe started in 1935 and was part of the tourist main stop in the then main (back then) Meridian Highway! Also a part of the cattle herding Chisholm Trail before then. This is a piece of "Americana" history that can be enjoyed right next to the cafe!! The station is covered in actual Petrified wood!) Anyplace that serves killer fried green tomatoes is gonna get a high rating from me! :) It is a small place, with only a handful of seats... but they do turn the tables pretty quickly without being pushy about it! Everyone talks to everyone here, so if you are new, get ready to make new friends! They have all the traditional items you think a place like this needs: fried chicken, pork chops, country fried steak, green beans, mashed potatoes, cheesy macaroni and cheese, deep fried okra, and fried green tomatoes!! It is definitely a piece of area history. We stopped in because it was so unique. The inside decor is a dinner I ordered the chicken fried chicken and my wife had the club and fries. The food was as down home as it comes, it tasted amazing and cooked prefect. The potion sizes were big and the price is reasonable. I will definitely come back. read more

I've driven by this a dozen times and never thought twice. Looked like cool buildings but didn't realize what I was missing out on. We took a ride up there from Fort Worth just based on the Yelp reviews. These buildings were originally built in 1927. It was a gas station and guest lodges used up until the 50's. Legend says Bonnie and Clyde stayed there for a night. Very cool history. Now the food.... Five ! The dining room isn't huge but quite a few tables and they keep in cold in there. Make sure you get their biscuits. Wow !! I had two eggs, biscuits, sausage and hash browns. The gravy was really good. All this for around $10. They kept the coffee flowing and service was really good. I'll be back. read more

Worth the stop. Go here! Down home personal feel with a bunch of great food. The coffee is decent and the biscuits are huge! The gravy tastes a mix of instant but the sausage really brings it to life. It wasn't bad and I'm super picky about gravy! The sausage egg cheese biscuit was next level with 2 panties, side by side with a huge egg and was great. The omelet was terrific. For a road side stop, it is charming and delicious! read more

I ordered a grilled cheese. It came out greasy, sloppy, thin, and pressed. I took a bite and that was it. They don't like new people in their restaurant. It's highly old and outdated like all the customers inside it are. Parking is atrocious. The building smells and looks like one big blob of mold. The front isn't clean nor does it look it. So what does that tell anyone about what the kitchen looks like and how they prepare and cook their food. It speaks volumes if you enjoy good food. The obvious of the latter is how this place should be rated. Bad food, bad company, bad customer service, bad parking, bad building, bad everything about it. It looks like something filled with roaches and rats. Avoid at all costs. Nothing there is worth your hard earned money. read more

Yikes! I went to school in this city, first of all. Really wanted to express my disappointment... IT IS HARD TO MESS UP BREAKFAST! This little place was FILTHY! Note to the small town captive audience owner... you are charging way too much for your "fresh food" that 100% comes off of a truck (Ben E Kieth, Cysco, etc). NOT ONE THING is "fresh." Why are you charging more than the breakfast from runners? Ex: Eggsquisite, Eggcellent, etc. Hashbrowns? More like Mashbrowns.. Food was less than mediocre. Ladies in the back kitchen, 5 feet from the bathroom doors, are using bare hands preparing food items and touching/handling customer plates and opening facility doors and cabinets and then touching food AGAIN! How does this place stay open?? WAY TOO MANY open conversations from the owner to the waitresses. I really don't need to know why you are hungover, or your husband/live in is a turd..... Super disappointed at the amount I spent at this place vs what I received. read more

Super cool building with all the trappings of the perfect country Cafe. It sits next to now unused buildings of petrified wood once used as a early motel and gas station. Makes you feel you are time warped to the 1930s. When you walk in you can hear the chatter of the locals. Don't be surprised if somebody waves and says hello. Now to the important part - the food. Had to go to Decatur; found Whistle Stop Café on yelp. It's one of those hometown, small places locals know about with friendly service and good food . Got the traditional two eggs and bacon with biscuit breakfast. The reviews were right. Homemade, fresh , delicious! Don't forget the biscuit; big fluffy greatness! Best damn biscuits I've ever had! Stopped here for lunch with a coworker and we were not disappointed. The place is small and located in an old building within a really great restores motor court. The number of cars and trucks parked outside when we pulled up was promising. You can sit where you want and menus are located on each table. A chalkboard above the cashier has the daily specials. I ordered a veggie plate with Mac and cheese, fried okra, mashed potatoes, and green beans with ham. It came with a dinner roll. My coworker ordered a chicken salad sandwich with tater tots and a slice of apple pie for dessert. We each ordered tea, and like everywhere in North Texas we were offered sweet or unsweet. Food came quickly and was delicious! Everything was flavorful and the portions were large. The pie came last and was beautiful looking. This place was great.
