Bacon Cheddar Jalapeno Burger
Jeff K.

Roosters Roadhouse was a good find driving thru Decatur on a Thursday night. Think Texas Roadhouse vibe but way more authentic than a chain can do. Blues and funky music. Server awesome with great suggestions. They have extensive BBQ and burger selections, and prepare their meats onsite. We chose the Cheddar Bacon Jalapeño burger and Chicken Bacon Quesadilla. At server suggestion chose the Rooster Tail onion rings vs standard homemade chips. Food was very good, and the Rooster Tails perfectly prepared (done but not too dry). Comes with its own dipping sauce. Small pet peeve had a beer and it came out in the can with no offer of a glass. That said, overall fun place, solid food, service and experience.

Quick drive to the little sleepy town of Decatur (about a 30 minute drive from Fort Worth) you will find this fun dive bar and grill. The immediate aroma of BBQ when you walk in tells you this is good stuff. The plates are reasonably priced, good portions, and plenty of options to choose from like chicken fried steak, salads galore, and hand held classics along with the BBQ. The service was a bit slow but after talking to our waitress we realized she was the only one working the floor. Either way they were super nice, and kudos to her- she managed all the tables without missing a beat! This place has a second floor.

Bacon cheese fries, half-order $7.95

We always visit, and I mean ALWAYS, Sweetipie's but decided to give Rooster's one good try. We were not disappointed! We were seated immediately and our orders were taken to the kitchen promptly. The food took less than half an hour to receive despite the busyness of Friday lunch rush. We started off with a half-order of bacon cheese fries which were soooo good! They are served with ranch. I ordered a patty melt since it was starred on the menu as a favorite. It was amazing, the sweet caramelization of cooked onion topped a cheeseburger and had a delicious sauce. I could only finish half the sandwich, it's huge. My kiddo had the Texas sliders (kid's meal comes with 2 sliders and the adult slider meal comes with 3). Hubby ordered a three meat plate, which I thought was just okay. The sausage piece I sampled from his plate was kind of burned and tasted like it had been reheated. I'm picky about smoked meat though, so I don't order unless I see it being smoked in front of me (ie Hard Eight) out of fear of it being old and dry. I do have a few cons to point out, but I didn't deduct stars since overall it was an enjoyable visit. Our server didn't keep our drinks full, she did walk over after we had our food to ask if we needed anything though. Also, she didn't offer to-go boxes even when she noticed how much food we had leftover. There is a bar so if you are looking for a Date Night idea, perhaps Rooster's would be a spot to try in the evening hours.

Food was average, not that great and not bad either. There was two large parties that took up the majority of the upstairs at least during the time we came in there wasn't much of a wait. Waitress, IDK, telling us that this her second day working. That's cool, but not really hungry for good tips. Not checking to see if my family needed drinks or anything.

Single Bubba burger w/rooster tails

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this Roosters yet. Only been here a dozen times. Sometimes while at work and several times 15 mile drive just for their food. Love this place. Great ambience inside with the historic building on the downtown square. But in all honesty, it's the food that brings me back every time. Although I've never had bad service and the wait staff is awesome! Today I had the single Bubba with mushrooms and substituted the fries for rooster tails. They have one of the best combinations of burger patties and buns. So much flavor packed into that handmade burger patty. A perfect combination. Let's talk about the rooster tails though. If you like onion rings then you're in for a surprise. These are the best tasting onion rings I've been had. Period!!! Then their dipping sauce takes it to a whole other level. A longtime faithful customer!

Walked upstairs to check out the 2nd floor - same awesome vibe.

We stopped here while passing through and were really happy with this find! I wish we had one closer to home. Loved the decor and vibe, although we had carry out because we had our dogs with us. The brisket burger was delicious - the burger was seasoned so well and the added slices of brisket put it over the top! The Texas Hot Chicken sandwich was amazing. The chicken was juicy and crispy at the same time, it was just the right hot with the addition of some sweet pickles (I don't usually like sweet, but this was so good) and the toppings and Texas toast... just try it! Substituted the Rooster Tails for one of our meals and they were fantastic. Again, we had carry out, but everyone was friendly and our order came out when promised. There's a bar on both floors and a pool room with 3 tables on the first floor in the back. I'd be here several times a week if I lived here!

Neat place was excited to try it out...tiny portion of brisket on my bbq plate and I really don't like being served in paper and/or styrofoam when dining in. May try again sometime but no rush.

I happened upon this place during a road trip as I was burnt out of fast food and wanted to try something unique and local, and what a pleasant surprise this was! A total gem! * Great & Friendly Service! * Great Environment & Atmosphere! * Delicious High Quality Food! Highly recommend the Redneck Sushi if you want BBQ brisket with a twist, it's complimented well with a horse radish based sauce that is great! All Beef is lean, tender and packed with flavor. Their menu is fairly large. If you have a large appetite try your hand at the Triple Decker King Brisket! If you're in the road and looking to get out of typical fast food and want to experience a local dive. This is definitely one for the books!

Cheese Bubba Burger

Always enjoyed going to Roosters. My chicken bowl was very filling. They had just the right amount of chicken, rice, and corn. If I would've thought about it, I would've asked to add black beans! Hubby had the cheese buffalo burger with french fries. The burger had mushrooms, bacon, cheese, and a fried egg! The french fries were good and crispy. We enjoy going here whenever we are passing through Decatur. 5 stars!

Dining area and bar.

Food was very good. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was off the chart. Great place on the square.

So, not sure how many times I have been here now, but it's a lot; going back over the prior year…read more Biggest challenge for me is hours of operation. They are currently only open a few days a week for a few hours on those select days. Bummer. I'm not going to get into whether or not this place is good, I've already addressed it in prior reviews and updates; in one word it's 'stellar'. The proprietor; Derek has done a tremendous job moving from very small outlet to a very cool large restaurant facility. I took five people there on Saturday and it was a great experience. Derek personally brought the food out. We chatted for a bit, I congratulated him on his growing his business. He said in one day, he does more revenue than he did in a weeks time at his prior "to go" only location. Good for him, he's a true American success story that clearly busted his butt to build his business. If only we had more of those. He's got a great formula. I can't criticize anything he's done; even the bathrooms are spotless and top notch. Whoever built out the plumbing in his place is truly an artist, you have to look at the details, it's not a budget operation. Kudos to this guy for killing it and putting a great crew together. If you haven't tried it you're doing yourself a disservice. If I'm disappointed about one thing, it's the fact he doesn't have those tallow based salted chocolate chip cookies anymore; at least that I could tell. I forgot to ask him about it. He may have had trouble getting consistent quality from his baker, but they were just absolutely awesome and a hell of a deal in my opinion. Pro Tip: I mentioned that I had a pellet grill and I wasn't able to get enough smoke flavor into the meat. It turns out he started on the same one I have. I've got a Yoder YS 640 competition model. He gave me some solid pointers. I can't wait to try them. It will never be as good as his, but hopefully I can improve.

Driving around Texas eating BBQ on the Texas Monthly Top 50 so we had to drop by North Texas Smoke…read more I knew that this place was popular and might sell out fast so I started calling and DM this place as we really did want so brisket. The problem occurred when we showed up and were told that they were out of Brisket. After a brief conversation with the lady taking orders and the pit master they were able to find us some chopped and sliced brisket, THANK YOU. The brisket was good as were the ribs but the star of the show was the boudin. We got our order to go. So the process is order and pay out 1 window then wait to hear your name so that you can get your order. When we visited the place was hard to find and we drove past it once as they did not have a sign. It's a nice place and the food was good. My recommendation try hard to order early and call them several times before they run out of brisket.

This location is straight garbage. Corporate needs to come take it over and fire everyone…read more 8 people in the restaurant and the excuse for the 1.5 hour wait for food is that you're slammed ?????? The problems in this store are from the bottom employee to the management. 1. Its dirty. Dirty floors, tables not cleaned, stacked dirty dishes. 2. Staff is lazy. If youve got time to lean against the counter at the pass and send text or Facebook or whatever it is, y'all are doing. Then you've got plenty of time to go out there and wipe the nasty tables off or to clean the floors or to do the dishes. 3. Cooks are too busy screwing around to get orders out in a timely manner. Food comes out cold because cooks don't prepare an order properly. Eggs shouldn't be sitting up on the pass while you're busy trying to cook the bacon or sausage or pancakes that are supposed to go with them. By the time whatever else it is, is ready to go, the eggs are stone cold. And most definitely do not stack plates with food on them on top of each other. 4. Managers. The managers in this restaurant have I don't give a sh!t attitudes. They'll have every excuse in the book as to why the restaurant is run so badly and it's always somebody else's fault. They will lie straight to your face to cover their own ass and get you to leave them alone. If you want a good IHOP experience, I would suggest bypassing this one and going to find another one because this one is not gonna change. The problem here are ongoing and nobody seems to want to do anything about any of it
