Our first time at Villa Grande Ranch was fantastic and absolutely delicious!! I don't think we've ever finished a meal off that quickly!! The smoked chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce was top notch and you HAVE to get the homemade guacamole (they make it fresh at your table with the ingredients you specify)!!! You can also tell the chips and salsa were freshly made, and they didn't last long at our table. The food wasn't the only great thing about our visit, the server (Austin) also made the visit grande! He had every trait that a great server should have...he was kind, attentive, and his smiling and positive personality made the visit memorable. I can't say enough good things about this group. They are honest, hardworking, and genuinely care about helping others. It's rare to find people who combine professionalism with such a personal touch. We saw this place and a relatively full parking lot so gave it a try. Definitely below average food and the service was lacking. It is a neat place inside but that doesn't overcome the shortcomings. I had Mexican food many times in the last couple days so I opted for the jalapeño peach pork chop. It was honestly tougher than leather- I really needed a sawsall to cut it. The flavor was fine. I knew I was in trouble when it arrived with a couple Libby's peaches fresh from the can sitting on the pork chop. My sides were tasteless mashed potatoes and steamed, mushy veggies. Chips and salsa, average. Queso with flavorless ground beef, average. My son had the birria tacos which were good. Not great by any stretch- it wasn't a traditional recipe and didn't have the traditional Oaxaca cheese. They used cheddar or another orange cheese. He said "good", I will call them "average": He ate all of the rice so it must have been decent. I didn't try a margarita but the ones I saw looked pretty typical for such a place big glass and probably average. I wouldn't eat here again. $50 for 2, no alcohol and I had water. We did get an order of Queso. There has to be better Mexican places than this nearby. read more

Tried this long-standing place for the first time on an early Friday night. Seated right away in one half of a large seating area split between two sides of the restaurant. High top table but we were asked if it would be okay before they seated us. Noticed a nice-looking outdoor seating area with a bar, games, TVs and nice tables. Server showed up quickly, took drink order and shortly after chips and salsa showed up. Great salsa with a hint of sweetness that was a nice change. Chips were warm, crisp and thin. There is a welcome smell of smoke from the meat being smoked in the kitchen, made me hungrier than when we came in! I always try the fajitas in a new Mexican place to see if they can hit on them, that tells me the rest of the menu will be good too. A good size order of thinly slice beef sitting atop a bed of sizzling onions and green/red peppers. The tortillas came in a small paper bag (the only thing I didn't like in the entire evening). Three hot, semi-crispy flour tortillas were excellent, adding to the overall impression and taste. I was also served a scoop of really good guacamole, sour cream and Pico de Gallo. Rice and beans along with a very good Mexican rice; soft, fluffy and great taste. My Wife had the Camerons; shrimp stuffed with cheese and jalapeno, wrapped in bacon and topped with melted cheese. Six very large shrimp cooked very nicely, cheese was ooey gooey and oh so good. Jalapeno had a little bite but nor overwhelming. The best thing about this was the price of the meals, both were right under $20 which was a superb value for what we ate. I'll come back many more times! read more

I really was looking forward to homemade salsa and fresh chips as my girls friends and I had set a date to meet here a few weeks back, and the night finally arrived! However, the salsa was not great. The chips were okay, didn't taste fresh. The salsa tasted like a can of off-brand tomato sauce with a few sprigs of cilantro thrown in for the fun of it. Very bland. So we all asked for the spicy salsa. It tasted like pinto beans with a hint of spice. In summary, it tasted like a bunch of old white people complained about too much flavor and this is what they serve now. Disappointing. Not Mexican at all. On contrast, the birria tacos were a bit better. They actually tasted like they may have been freshly made. I added onions and cilantro to mine for more flavor. The dipping soup was bland, didn't use it. And the rice was bland. The service was good. We were seating immediately as we got in right before a whole crowd started. I noticed on our exit the parking lot didn't have enough spaces, people were circling just waiting for someone to leave. I was thinking WHY? ITS NOT WORTH THIS HYPE! I guess people have never had good Mexican so they have nothing to compare to. I don't see myself coming back. If you're looking for more authentic Mexican, drive to Roanoke's Los Molcajetes. Not because they were packed-there were more empty tables than tables with diners-but because the restaurant does not employ sufficient staff to serve its customers. We sat waiting for so long I had to ask the hostess if anyone knew we were waiting. It must have been our server's first day, because she had no idea what an Arnold Palmer was. She made a few missteps, but nothing that couldn't be chalked up inexperience. Ambiance - It's a nice place overall. Typical roadhouse style. The biggest issue with this place is they're trying to create bbq smokehouse/Mexican style food and it's just not working. I don't think I have refused a tip 1 time this year. Just in time for the last day of year. Unbelievable honestly. I barely was willing to pay the bill much less pay extra for what I brought my 4 year old for as a daddy daughter dinner. If this places food and service was the bar of the evening it would be ruined. I would be challenged to believe that kitchen wasn't competing with my server over who could provide the worst service. The food was ok. Brisket was dry and beans didn't taste typical of refried beans in Texas. The waiter was very poor. Ordered large queso, he brought us small. We asked for more chips and waters four times and he never brought them. My husband had to get up to go ask for more unsweet tea and the waiter was just chatting with coworkers. Then he brought sweet tea. We still tipped him but not the 18% the receipt suggested. Also, I needed the bathroom and I have to use the handicapped stall. How come none of the 5 STAR reviews are from people who live in this town? I checked it out 2-3 times when it first opened, and didn't want to write a negative review on a new restaurant in town. Over a year later, nothing has changed. It's even gotten worse. We were told to wait in the lobby (with no air conditioning) on over 100 degree day. We went on a Monday around 1:45pm for a late lunch. It wasn't super busy, so we were seated right away, and the people who came in seemed to know the staff and knew exactly what they wanted so that was a good sign right out of the gate. They immediately gave us warm, fresh chips and salsa. While the salsa had zero spice, it had great flavor. Garlic and cilantro heavy, which we love. We ordered the deep fried portobello and the Tex Mex Parrilldia for two, which came with cheese quesadillas, chicken, shrimp, beef, smoked cheddar jalapeño sausage, a stuffed poblano and an assortment of grilled vegetables. It was served with our choice of flour or corn tortillas, beans, rice and a big scoop of guac, pico and sour cream. The Good: The portions were large, even splitting between the two of us, we brought plenty home. Everything was salted well and tasted nice and smoky from the grill. The waitress was an absolute doll, very attentive, never let our drinks get empty, checked in on us enough to feel like we weren't being ignored but not enough to be disruptive. The guacamole is especially good. We will absolutely be back! The Bad: The stuffed poblano was supposed to be a chorizo stuffed chile relleno, but it was just a grilled poblano stuffed with cheese and taco meat. The cheese quesadillas were rather soggy. Which was surprising, since they were made with corn tortillas. The deep fried portobello was a total flop. Bland, not nearly as crispy as you'd want and instead of the Mexican inspired sauces it was advertised with, it was served with the runniest ranch dressing I've ever seen. I'll definitely avoid that in the future. All around, this was a great meal, and I can't wait to use the leftover grilled veg in an omelette tomorrow. My husband and I started eating here during the pandemic because they had a huge outdoor eating area, but we recently visited again, and although we had to wait for about 20 min for them to clean a booth, (my husband insists on a booth) we enjoyed our meal very much. The service was probably a four out of five stars, but the food made up for that. The chips and salsa were good, as was the queso. My husband loved his chili relleno, but here's what really earned the five stars: I am a vegetarian and didn't feel like eating any more cheese, (typically get cheese enchiladas) so I ordered the Cobb salad with the chicken on the side (for my husband) and extra egg in lieu of any bacon. This was seriously one of the BEST salads I've ever gotten anywhere. It was so full of fresh ingredients including avocado and lots of chopped jicama, and every bite was sooooo yummy. It was chopped so nicely that I didn't have to struggle to get small bites. It was just a perfect salad! I ordered both the chipotle ranch and regular ranch, and it was delish!! We were traveling from central Texas to Oklahoma and stopped for dinner not expecting too much, but we were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. We had the Parillada, a meal for 2, but could easily feed 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 kids. The meat was a little dry, but still tasty. I also had a pineapple serano margarita that was so good!
