Biscuits and gravy
Doug G.

Come one come all! Great breakfast, lunch and dinner place in Decatur. Came here for the first time today. I wasn't very hungry so I had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were so soft and perfect. My wife ordered a full breakfast and I had a little of hers. Everything was cooked perfectly . Come in and try them out.

Chicken Fried Steak from the Western Egg Diner. Very good.

True this new place for lunch. The location has held numerous restaurants over the years so the parking lot and portions of the building like the floors are old and need some TLC. Greeted right away, picked our seats and a very welcoming server was there within two minutes. Took our drink order and dropped large single page menu with breakfast on one side and lunch on then other. Plenty of burger and sandwich choices with several "new" choices for both. The favorites portion listed diner standards and I chose the Chicken Fried Steak; a benchmark choice when reviewing a new place. Two sides, toast, and gravy accompany the CFS. Fountain drinks are very good, McDonald's level good. The food was out in about four minutes, hot and fresh, as the sides were too. Heavy was good. Needed a bit of salt by flavor was there. Nice crispy batter that stood up to the gravy. Thick, good size portion of steak did not cover the plate but was a nice size I could barely finish. Fries were hot but needed salt. The mashed potatoes had good consistency with a nice flavor profile. Toast was fresh, buttered and hot. Overall very good lunch meal. I really want I try the gyro sandwich and get omelette with tasziki sauce. Once profits build up, resurface the floor and the ambience will be much better. Clean and great servers, three of them handled about 35 people. I will be back for breakfast.

Food was delicious, service was friendly, and the inside was spacious and clean. The outside appears sketch, but well worth the stop!

Here again in 5 months on our way to San Diego…read more It's a Sunday, just before 8am. It is busy. Guess we're late as everyone is already halfway through their breakfast. Again this place is clean & neat despite the breakfast crowd. Our server was friendly and prompt with coffee and water. Today we ordered the Ryan's omelet and chicken fried steak. The omelette serving is big! Very generous amounts of ingredients and chunky size too! Love it! The chicken fried steak is huge! I think it's more a sharing size but if you're hungry, it's perfect for you. I'm pretty sure there'll be leftover.

Not a lot of "atmosphere" per se. Drinks were ordered and delivered promptly. Breakfast order took a minute; there seemed to be some confusion over which server was taking our table. BIL ordered one of the local breakfasts with all the usual: eggs, grits, toast, bacon. I opted for the veggie omelet with home fries and toast. Order took no time to be delivered. BIL finished his, and mine was the perfect portion. I hate having leftovers but this was not an overstuffed omelet, so I made short work of it. Home fries were a bit bland, but veggies in omelet were just right. Getting out of here was a challenge. Once food was delivered, we were able to watch servers talking while our drinks ran dry, and getting the check took a minute. It was good, reasonably priced and no leftovers gives it the 4-stars instead of 3, but once I'm done with breakfast, I have things to do, so no 5-stars on this one. I'm going to skip this on my next trip to Texas.

This location is straight garbage. Corporate needs to come take it over and fire everyone…read more 8 people in the restaurant and the excuse for the 1.5 hour wait for food is that you're slammed ?????? The problems in this store are from the bottom employee to the management. 1. Its dirty. Dirty floors, tables not cleaned, stacked dirty dishes. 2. Staff is lazy. If youve got time to lean against the counter at the pass and send text or Facebook or whatever it is, y'all are doing. Then you've got plenty of time to go out there and wipe the nasty tables off or to clean the floors or to do the dishes. 3. Cooks are too busy screwing around to get orders out in a timely manner. Food comes out cold because cooks don't prepare an order properly. Eggs shouldn't be sitting up on the pass while you're busy trying to cook the bacon or sausage or pancakes that are supposed to go with them. By the time whatever else it is, is ready to go, the eggs are stone cold. And most definitely do not stack plates with food on them on top of each other. 4. Managers. The managers in this restaurant have I don't give a sh!t attitudes. They'll have every excuse in the book as to why the restaurant is run so badly and it's always somebody else's fault. They will lie straight to your face to cover their own ass and get you to leave them alone. If you want a good IHOP experience, I would suggest bypassing this one and going to find another one because this one is not gonna change. The problem here are ongoing and nobody seems to want to do anything about any of it

It is a neat place inside but that doesn't overcome the shortcomings. I had Mexican food many times in the last couple days so I opted for the jalapeño peach pork chop. It was honestly tougher than leather- I really needed a sawsall to cut it. The flavor was fine. I knew I was in trouble when it arrived with a couple Libby's peaches fresh from the can sitting on the pork chop. My sides were tasteless mashed potatoes and steamed, mushy veggies. Chips and salsa, average. Queso with flavorless ground beef, average. My son had the birria tacos which were good. Not great by any stretch- it wasn't a traditional recipe and didn't have the traditional Oaxaca cheese. They used cheddar or another orange cheese. He said "good", I will call them "average": He ate all of the rice so it must have been decent. I didn't try a margarita but the ones I saw looked pretty typical for such a place big glass and probably average. I wouldn't eat here again. $50 for 2, no alcohol and I had water. We did get an order of Queso. There has to be better Mexican places than this nearby.
