Our first visit here. Visiting my stepson and my husband & I came in for breakfast. Everything was delicious. Attentive wait staff. Only complaint was my egg was cold. But my hash browns were piping hot so I just mixed the egg up in that. We will make it to the restaurant when we visit the area again. read more

I love greasy spoons and I'm not ashamed. This one is local popular, everyone knows about it, and they all like it. Most people in here have been coming for generations, they will recognize that you are "new here", and will reach out to welcome you! These are the things I love. The place is big, although it doesn't seem that way. If you look, there's an additional large party dining room, that seems there's always people in there. Therefore, the 2 waitresses won't spend a lot of time at your table. The flip side of that is the food flies out! Nice and hot! To address several of the other reviews, yes it's dirty. It needs a spring cleaning... badly. Who cares, it's a greasy spoon, and grease gets on the floor and into your clothing, and if you are lucky, into you! Deal w/ it! Food. Appropriately greasy. Plentiful. Well cooked. Especially the catfish! Awesome! (They are proud of their tartar sauce, so don't talk bad about it.) If you wanna appear as a local, start with the crackers & ranch, and then order the breaded beef crescent steak. It's like a Chicken Fry, but it's the version everyone in this town grew up on. The food portion for the price was incredible. I actually had a hard time eating everyting. The chicken fried steak, plus macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and ranch-style beans for $10! Wow! (Mom would be proud of my clean plate. Ha ha!) What will bring me back in the future is the exceptional service I received. Always a favorite. Took my dad here and he was speechless. Staff is always great fast and friendly.

Location of this Cafe (hardly even a cafe) is remote right off 199 with an exceptional parking lot. Let's begin. Interior was a 1980's panel wall and trim, tables were both sticky and grimy on the bottom and sides. The chairs, looked like poorly maintained pizzeria seats, with built up dirt and cuts exposing the foam inside the cushions. The ketchup, had gone sour, in both bottles, which also had an expiration date of Nov. 12, 2012 and needless to say was in an unmarked bottle. This, which leaves me concerned that not only the two at the table were bad, but the restaurants refill bottle of ketchup had gone sour. They have a bar right when you walk in, to where you have to practically turn your body to get through to the dining area and get this, they don't serve any alcohol, but that's not the worst part. So keep reading. Prices, the cheapest burger was $5.75(standard hamburger) and the most expensive was the T-bone steak, reaching well over $20. The French fries were dry tasteless and shriveled up. The fries seemed to be reheated in the microwave after being frozen from the pervious day or week, before arriving to be served. The fried okra was cold, soggy (of grease) and chewy, which makes me think they attempted to do something right but yet again, FAILED. Extremely Unpleasant and unappetizing. The burger, asked to cook to a medium, was well done, along with the rest of the orders. An onion ring on my $9 burger was cold, along with the meat. None of this food was served fresh, it had the texture and consistency of grandmas food from thanksgiving in 2015 that was reheated and served. I must also say, that the menu is not up to date, seemingly the sweet potato is no longer served, but wasn't told that until the food arrived and had to ask about it. They ceiling fans were turned on while I was there spraying, once again, dust and dirt all over the food on the table, a window cleaner had to ask multiple customers to get up as they cleaned the widows with chemicals as the food was being served. I highly recommend you do not eat here. The dining area, bathrooms and bar area being as unclean as it was to the customers, I assure the kitchen is an absolute disgrace. Don't expect anything more than what was explained. I had a "great" experience with everything that was not explained in this review, which leaves practically nothing. read more

Had my first meal at Howell's. This place is always so busy when I pass by so I had high hopes. Sadly I was very disappointed. Burger patties in my patty melt had zero flavor. Reminded me of those frozen patties you can buy and heat up on the Foreman and honestly tasted just like that. Baked potato was nothing to write home about. I might return for breakfast at some point but dinner is a no for me. Not gross but also not good. read more

We had heard really good things about this place, so today we decided to try it.....We were seated really fast. It took 20 minutes for a waitress to come take our order. And another HOUR to get our food... an hour is a life time with hungry little kids! We had to flag down servers to get our drinks and coffee refilled, had to ask for creamer & sugar. People all around us were coming in and getting their food and eating, and leaving before we got ours. Finally... our food arrived, but we had another wait because we didn't have silverware!!!! I ordered a Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes and green beans and a dinner roll. I ate the roll while waiting on silverware. There was about 3 tablespoons on gravy under my CFS... definitely not enough! I attempted to eat the CFS.. it was like eating fried flour.... The batter was so thick that the steak slid out of it.! I took 2-3 bites and that was enough for me. Prices are decent, cafe definitely needs updating. Glad I tried it, don't need to go back! read more

We stopped in on a whim because there were a lot of cars parked outside. That was an excellent decision. I had the best BLT I've ever eaten and the onion rings were perfectly prepared. We even got a free, freshly-baked chocolate cookie. After looking through the menu and the specials on the board, we knew our husbands and friends would also love the great down-home cooking, the friendly service, and the reasonable prices.
