The food was flavorful and hot. The steak was a little tuff but still good. I really loved the Squash Casserole! Fried Fish Plate, Fries, Hush Puppies and Squash Casserole. We've only been to Cotton Patch Cafe once before, and after tonight, it will likely be our last. We arrived at 8:25 PM. The restaurant was about half full, with four servers on the floor plus a manager. Despite that, we sat for 30 minutes and only got water. The manager was the one that brought the water and said they'd be there soon to get our order but that never happened. I also noticed that the guests seated after us went about 15 minutes without being acknowledged at all. During that time, several staff members appeared to be gathered and talking rather than checking on tables. After 30 minutes with no service, we decided to leave. Very disappointing experience. Hopefully they can correct soon as Denton has lots of good options and this one wont last if it doesn't. read more

I was delivered a chicken fried steak that the length of my fork head.Not even the whole fork was. They were out of four things that we ordered coors light, corn bread, rolls. This was my first time coming here while my family has been here a few times. From the very beginning, the service staff was very friendly especially our waiter Juan. We had chicken fried bacon as appetizer before our meal which was very tasty. My wife had the steak fingers while I had the beef tips. Both were extremely tasty. I worked at Cotton Patch Cafe for a short time under the current management team. One manager was very laid-back. I had requested time off, which was verbally approved, but then I noticed I had been scheduled for a shift during that time. I brought it up to the manager, and he told me not to worry and that he would handle it, but the shift remained on my schedule. Shortly after, all my scheduled shifts were reassigned to other employees, and my access to the scheduling system was removed without explanation or communication. The laid-back manager often stayed in the office while staff vaped and hung out, talking about drama and gossip instead of being on the floor. Hosts don't greet customers promptly; servers often stay on their phones on the expo line, laughing and texting, only occasionally glancing at customers. There were also unsanitary practices. The woven baskets used for serving bread were not cleaned; after customers finished, they were reused immediately. Cooks often handed dirty plates when additional plates were requested. Before I started working there, friends who had eaten at this location warned me about slow service and inexperienced servers. Drinks often took over 20 minutes, and orders were mishandled. Food quality was inconsistent. Overall, unprofessional management, poor communication, slow service, and unsanitary practices made the experience stressful. As me and my beautiful wife step food into the scratch kitchen we noticed something off... no one was here. 2 tables with people filled the empty less room. hearing every conversation with a faint sound of music in the background tickled my brain. As our server asked us how many, "2" I replied. She guided me and my lovely wife to a booth where we sat. I told my wife "I don't like this place so too much, all I do is get a burger" and that's what I got. I got the 3 cheese burger. And oh boy, what a clumsy mistake that was. I wish the look and taste of the burger was masked by how little time it took to get our food, but no. As I get my food, a silver platter with fries and a burger come out and set on the table. I move the platter with my hands and burn my finger, "damn, that's hot" I say to my wife. As my eyes gaze to the burger I see melted, yellow, goo, coming from the bottom bun. That only means one thing, soggy. I pick up my burger and the bottom bun peels off of the paper like peeling skin off of a body. The bottom bun smacks off and lands back on the plate, my fingers somehow sinking into the bottom bun with ease, "my gosh..." I say as I stuff my face with the creature of a burger. The burger and the ambience but a bat taste in my stomach. Definitely the worst bottom bun I have EVER experienced so far. We can do much better Cotton patch, much, much better. read more

My server brought some bread while I waited for my food. 30 minutes go by and my server ask if I need anything else but never mentions my food coming out and providing an estimated time. people came in after me and got their food before me and still my food never made it to my table! This experience was bad from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. No one greeted us at the door and it took 10 minutes for anyone to approach us. A wait staff briefly mumbled something as she was walking away after asking if we had 4 people (we had 3). Neither my wife nor I could hear what she said. Once we were seated we didn't see the waiter for for about 15 minutes which felt longer. We never received the typical complimentary rolls and butter they bring out. After he finally brought our waters we didn't see our waiter for another 15-20 minutes. The waiter kept walking between two registers and standing around talking to the other staff. We are now very hungry and just staring at our waters. The waiter hasn't even walked within waving distance at this point. After all the waiting he finally took our order and we didn't see him until he brought food. He never once came and checked on how we were doing between the obligatory steps. The food itself was just okay even though they we're all out of the flounder which is what I really wanted. The ingredients were very scarce like they were running out of all the ingredients in the kitchen. The chicken on my salad had barely any chicken which is strange since it's one of the cheapest meats. Anyways, we won't be returning for a long time - at least not at this location. I think management needs to pay attention to their customers and the employees who are serving them. read more

First time at this cute little restaurant. Didn't start off great with the eye-rolling hostess; no greeting, nothing... such a great personality for a hostess. Waitress was sweet, but may have forgotten a couple things; it was not too busy either. Now, the mushroom melt burger was amazing! Green beans were almost as good as Babe's Chicken beans! Shrimp and fish platter was good. Coffee was awful.... and that's our go to drink. Clean bathrooms. Music was a good level and it was not too noisy. Need a better detergent for their glasses... spots and film on them. I would give a 3, but hubby said make it a 4. We do like the decor...love the wood! read more

Disappointing... food and process. We ordered food to go and the staff was attentive, asked great questions and verified the order. While driving the restaurant calls, and advises they did not have chicken alfredo. Restaurant should have known this when the order was placed. Ordered changed. Picked up the order, my fault for not doing the dad thing and forcing the staff to show me that the order was right. Patty Melt was not good. Beef tips looks like they had been thrown in the box, sides were wrong. The salmon was plated well but the sides were Wrong. What the heck! Restaurant was not busy. Kitchen- total loss. This restaurant will be closed by January 31st, if not sooner. A sea of empty booths and tables, barely a third full, and we were told there was a 15 minute wait. The host put our name on the list and then went back to the back of the restaurant. Not sure if he was doing double duty as server or what, but about ten minutes into the wait, with the host not having returned to the host station, I saw that there were two tables nearby who still had menus, presumably not having yet been able to order as no server had been to their table yet. We saw the writing on the wall and left. Quit wasting Dentonites' time. Either pay a living wage so that you can hire some more staff, or fold. Edit: No, I won't contact your team...we're doing this here where the community can see. I've said all that needs to be said. Pay a living wage and hire more staff, or close your doors so that people don't waste their time driving out to you on a Friday night when you don't even have the ability to serve a front of house that looks like a Monday night. read more

My husband and I are fans of Cotton Patch, I mean who doesn't like a place where they can get specific dishes that remind them of their childhood. We love more casual restaurants with a menu that consists of home cooked favorites. I know a lot of the reviews this year haven't been favorable and while a majority of our visits were dine in prior to 2020, we've done delivery and pick up orders a few time since COVID19 came along and disrupted normal dining experiences. My husband loves their chicken fried steak and gravy! I steal his extra breading that falls off and it is super yummy, lol! I've had consistently great experiences with their steaks, salads, sides and dressings. Every dressing I have tried has been delicious with my favorites being their honey mustard, house made ranch and pomegranate. My favorite sides are their broccoli cheese rice and baked squash, so good!! My rating over the last year has drastically gone up and down on the sliding scale with many 5 star experiences, but with some real delivery mishaps that have impacted my opinion. I had to really consider between an overall average of 3 stars or 4 stars. I ended up with 4 stars because out of many experiences with this restaurant, only 2 have been actually bad and 1 has been mildly annoying, but so many have been great. I'm going to share with you the details of the not so great experiences in the interest of being up front, but also to include advice on how to get much better experiences down the line. The other reason for rounding up instead of down is that both times I had bad enough experiences to actually call and share with the management team they were very professional, genuinely apologetic and immediately offer to fix the situation to make up for it. Due to the nature of 2020, I feel the need to clarify that calling management does not involve screaming, threatening to sue, quoting law, talking about your freedoms, demanding unnecessary refunds/future gift cards, or any other Karen like behavior. As someone who worked in the food industry many years ago and someone who has spent decades in management, I understand that COVID19 has impacted this industry in extreme ways and the transition has been difficult for many, so it's more helpful to provide facts in a calm and timely way so they can identify the actual problem and make adjustments. This is designed to make future experiences better so you continue to give them your business, not to insult, demand free things (besides a deserved refund for missing items) or to condescend. My only experiences that were less than perfect were through delivery and most of those were earlier in the year. These were minor things like missing condiments or mistakes in the sides. Really the only one I can remember that doesn't fall into the 2 bad experiences wasn't even that big of a deal. I ordered their pecan chicken salad without bleu cheese and their super yummy pomegranate dressing. I received a side of salsa instead of the dressing, lol! I figured it out before applying it to my salad and I had ranch at home- not the flavor profile I was going for but I still had a good dinner. Minor inconvenience. There was one situation in April where the order was wrong to the point we couldn't eat it. My order had an ingredient I'm unable to eat and it was so mixed in that I couldn't salvage the meal. It was terribly annoying to have the instructions not followed. My husband had gotten nachos on that visit and some of the chips were burnt to the point of being inedible, an execution error that couldn't have been missed upon visual inspection. Yes, this was frustrating, but I called (this was a Saturday night less than an hour before they closed) and the manager on duty handled things beautifully and was appropriately apologetic and took accountability for the situation. Earlier this month, I did a Door Dash and my husbands CFS was left completely out of the delivery! Unfortunately, this happened right at closing time, so it was too late to fix it for that meal, which was the only thing I was interested in. Not going to lie, that one had me pissed since I'd been working 60+ hours and had no interest in cooking on my only day off. That being said, I called to ensure I wasn't paying for an item I didn't receive and to inform them that the only negative experiences happen on weekend nights so they can identify the problem. That manager was also very professional. So my recommendation is to call ahead to determine if dine in is feasible for what makes you comfortable (all my dine in experiences have been phenomenal), call in an order for curbside so you can check for all your condiments and entrees before you leave (never had a bad experience this way) or order delivery on a weekday. If you want delivery on a weekend, do it with Door Dash at least a couple hours before closing so if there is an issue, there is time to rectify it. read more

Man, I have to say some of these reviews are petty and all I could think was 'first world problems.' This isn't a 5 star, $100/plate restaurant, people! They have very limited options for vegetarians, so I ordered off the sides/apps. Mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and fried pickles. First off, the fried pickles were PERFECT! Nice and crispy breading, not soggy and nasty! The other food was as expected, no complaints. Their cornbread was pretty good too, although trying to butter it was hard because it's crumbly. Always an affordable and tasty meal at this FM 2499 and FM 407 Cotton Patch location. The atmosphere is pleasant, the staff work well with special dietary needs. Special thanks go out to our server, a very attentive Miss Tailour, for offering us dessert 'on the house', because Cotton Patch ran out of their delicious melt-in-your-mouth buttery rolls. We selected the Dr. Pepper cake and it was to-die-for chocolatey goodness! That cake is now on our radar for reorder. The manager, Miss Sophia, was working double-duty but made time to stop at every table. She suggested that because we enjoyed the Dr. Pepper cake, to try the butter cake as well at out next visit.
