It was our first time dining at Mel's diner after many times in Pigeon Forge. There was a wait but not bad. We had the norm of sandwiches and fries. They were good but nothing special. One thing I'd wish they would do is put descriptions of the different burgers. They have catchy names but you have to ask the waitress what they are. Great food. Sorry I didn't catch our servers name but she was a sweetie and very prompt. I ordered the western omelette it was amazing. My other half ordered eggs, hash browns, sausage and bacon and biscuits and gravy. Our daughter ordered sausage, biscuits and gravy and grits and bacon. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Although our daughter said she'd never seen sausage and gravy with sausage sprinkled on top of her gravy before. I thought it was creative and didn't add that greasy effect it sometimes can. But honestly what really I loved about it most was we didn't have to wait not even a minute to get seated. It was fricken fantastic, especially when you go the weekend after Xmas to Pigeon Forge. I mean it can be so silly trying to get in any restaurant without a reservation. This was an amazing experience and I love the decor. The coolest shirts. Plus they have that cool juke box. After visiting Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, we decided to go to Mel's Diner for dinner. For my meal, I ordered the country fried steak, which comes with two sides and Texas toast. I chose mac and cheese and fried okra for my sides. I thought that the country fried steak was crunchy, peppery, and hearty. The mac was extremely cheesy, the way mac should be. The okra and toast were just like any other. My cousin got the James Works burger, which is topped with chili, bacon, and mushrooms with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. He got it with no mushrooms and enjoyed it. My cousin's girlfriend got the biscuit and gravy with two eggs and bacon. She loved it. My dad got the bacon cheeseburger, and he thought it was delicious. My mom got the Cajun burger and enjoyed it. Overall, I would highly recommend going to Mel's for a delicious meal. read more

Came to eat here with my family and the moment we stepped in they were horribly rude. The hostess acted like we didn't belong here. I told my husband I wanted to leave and he said let's just try it out. Our waitress Alexis seems like she did NOT want to be there. She was short with us, acted like we were an inconvenience when we literally asked one question. Didn't come to check on us til we were almost done. My daughter needed more ranch and she just threw it on the table. Maybe it was a bad night for her but there's no reason to act that way. This was a horrible ridiculous experience and I will make sure everyone knows it. Me and my family are tourists visiting the area and this place was recommended for a couple food items. We had planned to go to Heirlooms for the evening but some of our party didn't want to drive so we decided on a smaller number of our party going to Mel's diner. We were greeted, taken to a seat for a party of 7, sat down and had our drinks and food orders taken. Then our drinks were brought back to us as well. While this was taking place I had my toy poodle on my side in my carry bag up on my shoulder. This was seen by all members of the "supposed pets are welcome" establishment. So after over 20 min here comes a lady telling me I can't have my dog in my arm I have to put him under the table. We ask her where is he supposed to go as the diner booth we were sat at was extremely small. She talking bout she don't know while pointing to a spot on the floor. I explained to her that he is a service animal and proceeded to show my documentation and I explained I was not sitting my $6000 dog on the floor for no one. She then says I have to leave. Now again mind you we have been seated had orders taken and had our drinks brought back all while the dog was visible. So I asked if the owner was present once we got back to the front of the restaurant. She said no but the general manager was. So she goes and gets him and he comes and is just as rude saying the dog has to go on the floor and I again explained to him that I have a bag for him and that he is licensed to be with me at all times. He didn't want to listen and said this was Tennessee law and said we needed to just leave. So at first I was going to but then I realized that he was breaking some serious laws so I went back and asked him to please repeat what he just did in the establishment and I advised I was recording. All of a sudden he wanted to go outside after just humiliating me and my family. Now you want to go outside and then he's being even ruder threatening to call the police. As he is making this situation worse I explained to him that I would not have had a problem at all had we not been seated served drinks and had our food orders taken. We were hungry it was late and this experience was extremely upsetting. Even when the police came they agreed that it was wrong and advised they even knew there was nowhere to put the dog even though the older lady in there claimed big dogs go under a table with 4 people. The officer observed this was a pocket size toy dog and he recommended a better establishment for us to eat at. So after even further humiliation it was shown that not only was this wrong but this restaurant in fact violated several service animal laws. They did not ask the 2 questions that is required to be asked by law and they completely ignored my documentation which is legitimate everywhere I go. I suffer from severe ptsd and this made my condition worse and ruined me and my family's evening. I will be taking this to the full extent of the law and going to the places the officers kindly told us where we can file formal complaints. I will also be seeking counsel as this entire situation was recorded. read more

The food was great, still didn't need to be that much money, we could've bought whole things of juice, milk, and coffee for the amount of money each individual thing was, our server Erin was very nice. I would rate the food a 1 as it was mediocre, at best. We asked the server for their recommendations and not one of their "home-made" options made the cut. Our party grabbed dinner there - it's a little off the main road and has a 50s or 60s diner vibe. They seem very committed to the theme - the booths were cramped and the aisles were tight. I had the James' Works burger cause I wanted everything on it. The toppings were good. The burger patty was more on the softer side if you like that sort of thing (like noticeably soft...). The chili topping was nice. The group loved seeing the variety of side (starch) items: chips, fries, pasta salad, or potato salad. I saw another Yelper recommend the pricey onion ring upgrade. I took the recommendation, but the onion rings - they were not worth it. I stole fries from someone else's plate. The fries were pretty good. read more

Cheeseburger was standard dinner fare, mushroom swiss burger was good, but would have been better with fresh mushrooms, instead of canned. Meatloaf was different, with a Mexican spice profile. We absolutely loved coming here. We almost came our second night but they were closed. We enjoyed the hike box and the environment of the diner. The memorabilia was fun to look at. Hot chicken was extremely dry. Fried corn on Cobb tasted like oil. Pot roast was good but the portion was very small, like for a child. Banana Split was good but for $10, not the best deal. Our waitress was very nice. Atmosphere was what you'd expect from a diner. I would not return. 5 guys would have been a better value and meal. They were advertising for kitchen help. They definitely need it! I don't know how you can believe any of the 5-Star ratings. They must be paid or from friends or family. read more

Always go to Mel's as soon as we get to Pigeon Forge, but our last visit was very disappointing. Two of us ordered the pot roast and one portion was full of fat. Also the portions are shrinking while the prices are increasing. Our wait person was not very attentive, but busy chatting with coworkers. We arrived at 11pm on a Saturday, asked to order takeout, and they refused- said they don't allow to-go orders after 10pm for whatever reason. The lady told us to wait in our car or outside for a table, if we wanted to eat. After 5-10 minutes, they called us in for a table. Maybe it was end of the night and everyone was tired, but their customer service sucked big time. The lady that told us to wait outside had an attitude, as if we were bothering them by coming in. The young lady that was our server didn't seem to want to be there- she barely said a few words when taking our order- don't believe she made eye contact or smiled at all throughout. Once she brought out our food, she disappeared and we had to flag her down. The mushroom burger was sad- the mushrooms were definitely poured directly from a can, not even sautéed or put on the grill. Only reason I'm not giving them 1 star is because the fries and banana split were decent. Otherwise, it was an epic fail of a diner in my books. read more

A good choice for us. We were looking for dinner after 10:30 pm and Mel's was open until midnight. It was a Wed night and we still waited about 10 min for a table. I ordered the fried chicken tenders salad and my dinner companion had the cheesesteak. His was a bit on small side while mine was generous. I couldn't finish it if I wanted to save room for dessert. Both meals were pretty good. We ordered the Hot Fudge Cake to share which was tasty. The waitress was nice and surprisingly attentive for as crowed as it was. The floor was really dirty, but I don't know what you can do about that with the amount of traffic. The other surfaces were clean. Tip for the mgmt... don't have the crew spray the tables and glass between booths while people are still eating at the next tables. The spray gets into the air and the odor is very unpleasant. Maybe spray directly into rag so mist doesn't permeate into the air. read more

This place was our second choice when we got to Tennessee Wednesday afternoon after we couldn't try The Bigfoot cheesesteak place which we tried today and it's absolutely TRASH but I did that review go read it!!! However we came to Mel's it's a small little diner that you will miss on the strip if you're not paying attention but my large party of 10 squeezed on in there anyway. Our server Whitney took the orders she was sweet polite and very attentive she made sure we was well taken care of! Now the diner had an odor that most customers was complaining about but they did the best they could to take care of that for the most part my party was happy the Nashville hot chicken amazing the club sandwich amazing chicken tenders kids were happy French fries now of us liked so get fried okra or onion rings instead the burgers are decent and this place wasn't too pricey so if you're in town give them a try hopefully you will like it!!!! read more

Our group visited for lunch and came back for a breakfast to this 50's style diner. Decorated like the ones we grew up with in NJ, our waitress Flo made us feel right at home. It was almost free entertainment from her as she took our orders, and even remembered that the teenager in our group didn't use butter for his pancakes. Our food was quickly brought out, was good, and the second time we visited unfortunately had a hair in the eggs - yuck! That was fixed by another plate being brought out but it took away my appetite halfway through my BLT. Took the rest of it home but will probably discard it. Mel's diner is located on the parkway close to the Pink Jeep tours. The outside has the vibe of a classic 50s diner with car pictures on the windows. Inside you will find a jukebox and the whole diner surrounded with various Tee shirts for sale. If you are looking to buy a Tee check out the coupons in the various tourist brochures about Pigeon Forge. You'll find a $2.00 off coupon. All meals are served all day here. Friendly service. I noticed that they were now selling cinnamon rolls here. My husband, daughter and I decided to split one and we were smart on this one. It was delicious and yes you could make a bit of a mini meal out of it. I had the "hot mama" egg white omelette that cam with veggies and a side of hash browns and toasts. My husband and daughter both had pancakes. We got our food in a decent amount of time. I really enjoyed the omelette and found it gave me a break from the egg yolk ones. The hash browns were fairly bland but I figured out later they allow you to season them yourself as you like. My husband and daughter both enjoyed their pancakes with our daughter taking some of it home with them. I must admit I like the tees here. You can scan the placemat they give you for the various colors. They make great gifts for the car enthusiast on your list. They also have some small souvenirs in their case and I ended with a rubber ducky Mickey and Minnie. We enjoyed visiting here and hopefully would like to try a lunch or dinner if we ever return. Prices were affordable and large portion, all three of us agreed the portions were massive. Mel's truly is designed and feels like a diner from years ago.
