The pizza is always good here. I love that they don't charge extra to change out an ingredient on a pizza. We ordered pretzel bites that were really more like dough balls. They tasted great despite the fact that they weren't really pretzels. There's lots of booths. This is great for us because a booth is much easier when you have a little one with you. Really good pizza! Worth visiting. Location is clean and has a 1960s~1970s groovy atmosphere. Would have given 4 stars but the pepperoni was not as flavorful as other pizzas from NYC area. I came into this location for the first time tonight and ordered the veg-out. It's a house speciality and is pretty consistent company-wide, so I figured I'd be good to go. WRONG. I asked for two standard and simple substitutions, but the subs weren't honored when I got the pie. The pie needed an extra 10-15 minutes in the oven once home and of greater concern the extra marinara I requested came with a piece of the bar tenders wash cloth in it. Usually, I like my pizzas either deep dish Chicago-style, or thin crust New York-style. I just moved here from Chicago, where I was spoiled by all the great pizza places. Apparently it's a franchise. I didn't actually dine in the restaurant, so my review is basically of only the pizza and to a lesser extent the service. The menu is pretty interesting, with a few specialized pizzas that looked encouraging. I phoned in an order for pizza, specifically the Maui Wowie. I was told it would be about 20-25 minutes. Hungry, I arrived at exactly 20 minutes, fully expecting that I would probably have to wait a few minutes. I was told I could wait at the bar, which I did........patiently. The bartender kindly asked if I wanted something to drink. Nah, I'll just wait for my pizza and be on my way, should just be a few more minutes, right? The inside is your standard pizza joint and sports bar combination, open kitchen layout. I make eye contact with the bartender every so often, just to let her know I'm still waiting. About another 45 minutes goes by. At this point, my big guts are eating my little guts. I'm watching the Olympic on TV, trying to pass the time. I've finally had it, I'm gonna complain, which I rarely do. The bartender asks my name, checks the back, and brings my pizza. I noticed that it was slightly cool, as if it had been sitting there for a while. I'm so hungry at this point, I didn't even have the energy to complain. In regards to the pizza...it's pretty good...chicken, pesto, banana peppers, pineapple. I'd probably order it again, but I haven't decided if I'm coming back yet. Slow....slow....slow. The food was excellent as usual; however, the service was horrible. Our waitress did not come back to check on us not once after dropping the food off. We waited over 25 minutes for a refill and finally I had to go over to the group of 9 employees (including our waitress) who were congregated and socializing at the front hostess stand. my husband told me we'd go get pizza, so i went out in my pajamas thinking we were grabbing take-out...lol, nope. it's a sit in joint. but it's awesome! the pizza is super great and i was really impressed by their variety of toppings, including lots of vegetarian and vegan options. i really loved the white pizza i had loaded with veggies (fresh and sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, and broccoli). the dough knots were yummy too, a big portion even for two people and served with marinara & beer cheese (not something i've ever had before, but so delicious i stopped the waitress to ask about it so i can get it again). i haven't experienced their bar yet as i was totally not dressed for it, but i can't wait to go back and try. we just moved here and this is definitely my favorite restaurant so far! read more

Tonight was my first Mellow Mushroom experience. I really enjoyed it! First of all, the atmosphere and decor is very fun, reminds me of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at Disneyland. More importantly, they have a very extensive (I stopped counting at 30) beer selection- tons of micro-brews and to my delight, some of the West Coast's best are represented. The Pizza was very good. I custom ordered my own, the pizza was on the thin side (I actually prefer it this way) and the actual crust was crisp and puffy with the perfect amount of doughy-ness on the inside. It was a little on the salty side, but I think that was more because of the salami and sausage that I ordered than the pizza itself. My buddy ordered their buffalo chicken pizza, which had a perfect mix of buffalo chicken wing sauce and blue cheese, with good portions of chicken that weren't overcooked! The service was prompt with just the right amount of attentiveness. I would recommend this place to friends and will definitely be going back while I'm here in GA. For pricing: I ordered a large 6 topping pizza (4 veggies and 2 meats) and a pint of Rogue Dead-Guy Ale on draft and it came out to $32 with tax. I think probably a little more expensive than other places in the area, but on par with what I'm used to from Cali and Hawaii, and certainly worth it flavor-wise. Although I eat a lot, there was enough that I still had half of a pizza to bring back for leftovers. So really it's only $13 a pizza for each meal (if you take out the beer). read more

My honey and I headed over to mellow mushroom for dinner. We both were famished and needed protein and carbs in our system ASAP. I've been to several mellows and never have been disappointed. My sweetie started with a beer and ordered a calzone with chicken, cheese, onion, pineapple, and peppers. I started with a small Greek salad and a medium house special pie that basically had every meat possible and some veggies. The salad was pleasing and I finished it pretty quickly. Both of us waited patiently twirling the knives having conversation about anything to distract us from the rumbling sounds in our stomachs. Then we both saw it...... A young girl with Two trays approaching our booth one hand carrying the calzone and the other majestic pie of heaven. Yes!! We immediately grabbed our knife and forks and dug into the food. There was no words spoken except sounds of enjoyment. After several bites I asked my honey what he thought of his calzone. He exclaimed that it was appetizing and the dough and meat ratio was balanced. My house special pie was delightful. The only con was the bottom layer of the pizza was soggy due to the amount of ingredients sitting on top. The liquids from the tomatoes is a factor to the softness. Otherwise everything was great and our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Also mellow mushroom is supportive to the military so that is A+ in my book! read more

Pros: amazing pizza. MM pizza is really its own thing, mainly due to their crust, which I frequently order in the form of pretzels! Toppings are always great, especially the meatballs. Calzones are huge. Kids love it. Beer selection is fantastic. Cons: Can get very noisy, and they can be hectic at times. Drinks are pricey, but I guess you've got to cover your overhead. Salads are usually good, although I've had consistently better salads at their downtown location. read more

Will never come to this location again! Our waitress was rude and short and would constantly walk away before we could finish ordering, from drinks to the kids meals. Then somehow our 36 dollar bill turnes into 51 when i looked at my account. Highly doubt i would tip a bad waiter 15 dollars lucky we "attempted" to give 5. This place is awesome! They have such a wide variety of appetizers and entrees, definitely a good spread of choices for everyone in your group. A gang of five friends and I usually come here for trivia Tuesdays and it's a blast! The pizzas are really good. I usually go for a boring pepperoni, but some others in the group get the Magical Mystery Tour (a pesto based pizza with mushrooms, spinach, jalapeño, and cheese galore all on a pesto basted crust!) (also available gluten-free!) and they love it. They also have a pretty wide selection of beers on tap to choose from. The price range isn't anything too crazy either. All in all, it's a fun restaurant for groups with a wide selection of foods and beers for good times with friends. read more

My personal favorite place in Augusta for pizza. I love the selection, the vegetarian options, the pretzel-ish crust on the pies, the beer selection...there's something for everyone here. The pies are a bit pricey, but they don't skimp on toppings and their slices are more filling than most other pizzas. Their salads and appetizers are great, and the couple times I've gotten a sandwich here I've enjoyed it. This place can get loud on the weekends (super high ceilings echoing the noise back down in the dining area), but that's my only minor gripe. I prefer this location to the downtown one - nicer area, larger restaurant. We tend to rotate what we get pretty often, but we come back to the Holy Shiitake Pie alot - it's even my anti-vegetarian hubby's favorite, despite having no meat. read more

Perhaps this place should be renamed "Mediocre Mushroom". The food was extremely overpriced considering the quality was on par with store brand frozen pizza. After ordering a single pizza, 10 wings, and a small side salad the bill was over $50. Did I mention that fountain drinks were nearly $2.50 each? The pizza was cool when it got to our table even though we waited for over a half hour (we were one of only two families in the restaurant) and most of the vegetables on the pizza were completely raw. The sauce tasted like crushed tomatoes blended with no other ingredients. If you're in the mood for pizza there are better options out there. read more

Good selection of pizza and huge sizes! The ambiance is very Americana but it was extremely loud, especially when they have live music. When I went there was a man playing guitar and it was so loud I could barely hear my friends talking. It's usually very busy there and I usually have to wait for parties of four or more. But that also means it's a great place for pizza. I just wish it wasn't so loud. And the selection of shows they play on the televisions is not very good either. Last time I was there, they had wrestling on, which really doesn't interest me. Otherwise, though the food is good and worth the trip. read more
