I ordered 2 steak tacos and horchata, both very delicious. The horchata is milky and sweet but not crazy sweet, and topped off with cinnamon. The steak tacos came out pretty hot, fresh from the grill. I got them on corn tortillas and I'm glad I did: idk if they make them in house but somebody in some house is making these because they definitely aren't store bought, and if they are I want to know where! I tried the orange habanero and creamy serrano salsas. The habanero was spicy off the bat, while the serrano had more of a lingering burn. Both paired well with the steak. They have a little bar, too, though I did not imbibe this time. Seems like they have a decent selection of agave spirits, and even Campari behind the bar (iykyk). Give them a shot, and thank the ladies in the kitchen.

Decided to come in and the cashier greeted us and was really nice and patient because of questions with the menu. The Taco Bueno is what I had ordered and requested no potato. My late night jaunts in Austin have usually lead me to a number of late night spots, most of which…read morehas been food truck taquerias and cater to us hungry night owls in the local food scene. One such spot has been El Super Taco, which is east of I-35 and a stone's throw from the airport. While I wouldn't call their food super per se, I would note that they've been a solid option practically every time. (#1) The truck itself is parked at an old gas station, which they've converted to an outdoor dining space complete with parking and picnic benches for folks who want to chow down on the spot. During the pandemic they had built an where they take payment straight through a window and of course, it's cash only. The wait isn't too long for the food and during their heydey, the tables were usually filled with people. At 2AM, not so much. Unlike the Houston taco scene, they have asada (#2) as one of their choice meats, followed by pastor, barbacoa, cecina, pollo, chicharron, campechano, and deshebrada. The latter is a shredded beef that has been one of their best sellers and is not commonly found at most taco spots. Their barbacoa and pastor are good, but they are commonly sold out before their night is over. They also have breakfast tacos during select times of the day, and that's do a very good huevos based taco with nopales or tocino or salchipapa or the classic chorizo and/or spinach. The tortas, sopes, quesadillas, and sincronizadas are worth considering, but the gorditas and tostadas are very underrated. Speaking Spanish isn't required (#3), it is helpful. The staff is quite good about expediting the food, especially when there is a line. It hasn't been a problem during their later hours and there's been plenty of seating. Lastly, I recommend taco selfies for that sick mural. Most taco stands / trucks won't have something that artistic, so I recommend taking advantage of it while it's still here. ___________ (#1) Consistency and reliability. It matters in life and in tacos. (#2) Seriously, what's the deal with the meat "fajita" in Houston? (#3) Welcome to Austin!

Of special note is the very good blueberry lemonade from Conscious Cravings, as well as a to-die-for selection of goat cheese from the Chivata Goat Cheese Truck. (Seriously, go check out their trailer and pick up one of their sandwiches, your tummy will thank you.) Pros: Outdoor and *indoor* seating - useful when it rains or bakes in Austin, which it can. Reasonable selection of food trucks, you'll find something to try. Bathroom facilities are fine and not port-a-potties. Cons: Some of the trucks hold odd hours on the weekend. Parking is at a premium, with about a dozen spots and 2 handicapped spots. You can find parking on the side streets but be careful crossing 1st Street as the traffic zooms by at light speed! Service The guy working the truck seemed to be high while taking our orders and making food. That must explain why tacos are $7, they were decently large and that runny age was good. It also took ages to make and get our food. I know vegan food does tend to take longer because of the care process, but this was another level. They did not call our names when the food was ready and it took ages. We even came to check on our food a few times and it was not ready. Ambiance Food truck in the middle of an empty lot. There are quite a few other trucks, but they were all pretty expensive. Bathrooms are decent onsite and there area few tables around the here you can eat. Parking lot is on East 2nd so if you're driving don't pull up on Cesar Chavez. You'll be able to enjoy some impressive mosaic murals lining the lot and by the restrooms, on behalf of the neighboring mural business, and colorful art is infused throughout the Vegan Nom for super bonus ambiance points. We tried half the trucks. Burgers, tacos, and cheesecake were on the menu because the others were closed at the time. I tried a taco two-fer at Rockin Vegan Tacos, which has evolved its presentation and probably food through the years. The KBBQ rib taco on a flour taco was yummy. Taste and flavor excelled over the somewhat disjointed and unmeldedness of the overall taco. The vegan bacon on my scramble tasted pretty salty and greasy- true to its inspiration tho bacon in any form won't be missed by me- however the scramble "egg" was eggcellent. Truly. Not just being punny. Don't forget to grab some sauces from the little labeled mini cooler to the left of the counter. That chipotle sauce slaps. The fries from Nom Burger were a skinny fried surprise! Well seasoned and addicting, watch out. They also provide organic ketchup packets without high frucgross corn syrup- min approved. The buns weren't warmed and at a 3:1:.25 bread to patty to cheese ratio, cheeseburger was just ok. The cute little cheesecake truck serves vegan and non vegan options. $10-11 in little glass jars which can be returned for future discounts. The cookies and cream was a layered and light treat. A nice way to wrap up the meal and extend your time in this cute, colorful, casual, Austiny spot. Bathrooms are in the mural building through a white door behind the trash bin, take the first right. I spied Uber cookies on the closed coffee truck menu and shall return for those.

Waah. Development…read moreand gentrification are destroying the great food truck courts of First Street. Many of the finest ones have either closed or are draining out. What's the issue? Landlords want the land to build new high density apartment buildings. * * * Double Waah. The Bouldin Creek Food Park is still around. Bouldin Creek Food Park is probably the worst of the traditional First Street food courts. It is the northernmost of the First Street food courts - the one nearest to Palmer Auditorium and downtown. It is on a teeny tiny strip of land between First Street itself and the gulch of East Bouldin Creek. The lot is too narrow and oddly shaped to permit high density development. So the landlords are going to leave this place alone. Just as there is precious little room for development, There is also precious little room for the food trucks and the parking. So simply from lack of space, the customers sit practically on First Street itself. The eating tables get the full blast of First Street traffic. The eaters get the noise and the carbon monoxide. They also get the uncompromising blast of the Austin summer sun There is one exception to the rule. If you look carefully, you will find exactly one table in the back that is rustic, quiet and pretty. The East Bouldin Creek Gulch runs there. The gulch has lots of shade and really nice rock cliffs. Picnic heaven? No such luck. The back is where they dump the detritus and spare junk from the food trucks. The back has pallets, framing and extra plastic bottles the carts don't have room for. You are in a eating in a trash pile, a shady trash pile but still a trash pile. * * * Life gets more interesting if you have to go to the bathroom. The bathroom literally is a porta-potty. To be fair, they empty it frequently, so it is not too gross. However, there is no running water to wash your hands after you do your business. Not being able to wash your hands is not great if you intend to eat food afterwards. * * * If the food trucks were absolutely marvelous, one might tolerate the bad location and set-up. The trucks they have are run of the mill. Dawa is better than run of the mill. The rest are ho hum. All of these trucks would be more pleasant in a nicer location. Mueller for example would be a huge promotion for any of them. If you have a food truck you adore, and Bouldin Creek is where it happens to be, all power to you. Enjoy your meal. Enjoy watching the cars drive by. Be sure to go to the bathroom before you leave the house.
