Okay so if I had to solely rate this place off customer service, I would easily give it a 4. The staff makes you feel as if you're a part of their family. Very welcoming and they keep the conversation going. Part of that may be because they know the food is going to take a while lol but either way it always makes any food experience go by smoother when the staff is great. This spot does offer tables to sit in but it's truly unique in the fact that there's a laundry mat, daquiri shop and restaurant all in one! Never seen that before but pretty normal for different areas in the south. Now for the food, I would honestly that it a 3. The red beans were disappointing, absolutely no flavor and I ordered a smoked sausage and didn't even get it with the order which sucked. The fried chicken was a nice complimentary touch but it was highly unseasoned which again, was disappointing because it was perfectly fried. Everything else (shrimp and catfish platter, Po boy, and gumbo) kind of seemed to follow the same pattern, good enough but still missing any flavors to stand out. We went to melba's, it was all nice and good, we got fries and chicken that were good, until it was bad because we got a mufflutta with ham, just to see stacked grey, almost turning green ham that was at least a month old. I have been to Melba's many times since the not so pleasant experience I had in the past. I'm happy to say that from what I've seen is they have raised their game. I've spoken with the Owner several times as well as he is very visible from time to time. My favorites have got to be the Corn Grits and their Chicken Wings are outstanding. Love the fact that during Football season they give free wings for every time the Saints score. This goes down the day after the game is played. It even had a chicken wing in it, bone in. Lots of "heartiness" and meat. This is a gumbo. I love that Melba's is attached to the laundromat and is bigger style and gives a discount to first responders and honors God. They seem to give money to a lot of good causes. Day 2 at Melba's, and had to reduce my ratings from 5 to 2, but let me explain... 5 is for FOOD, but ratings include the customer experience, and based on individuals dealing DIRECTLY with the public, the experience lacks. But in my estimation, this is an operational issue, as management should always maximize the strengths of its team members. I'm quite sure the young man with the dress is great at what he does from a food perspective, and I'm also confident the young lady with glasses and the two french braids on the side of her hair is good at something to elevate the business, but NEITHER one should interact with the public. The manager on duty is a cute young girl, but her decision making skills and ability to handle simple issues are questionable. Maybe she doesn't have the authority her title should afford, I'm not sure, but when I report to her that my previous order, THOUGH DELICIOUS, wasn't what I ordered, she just looked at me and said that must've been what you ordered. When I showed my receipt from the order 2 days ago, she just said, "Oh." Wow... Trying to have a little lunch while waiting for my clothes in the laundry area, the workers come in and start dusting vents while there's food on the table. I moved out of the way and stood outside for a few minutes, but they were still at it. Everything was covered in that dust, clothes included and the dust is still covering the tables. I decided to try the shrimp with green beans, fries and buttered toast. My husband went with the daily special of the stuffed bell peppers, fries and macaroni casserole. My shrimp hadn't been deveined, was rubbery and definitely tasted old. The green beans were slimy, unseasoned and straight from a can. The buttered toast was exactly what it sounds like. Butter on white bread. My husband enjoyed his bell peppers but said the stuffing inside definitely wasn't fresh. The worst part of the whole experience was how filthy the whole place was. The tables were sticky, the floors hadn't been swept or mopped in a while and we felt unsafe because local druggies kept coming in from the side door to do drugs in the bathroom behind us.
