Megapath is to be avoided at all costs. They are dishonest, dishonorable and untrustworthy. After being a loyal customer for many years they treated me horribly when I tried to cancel my service. I had a T1 then a bonded T1 and both were woefully slow and ridiculously overpriced. There are many other honest, competent and trustworthy carriers for high speed internet service. They claim that even though we verbally told them..and mailed the equipment..and are in a different location which they never set-up..that we still have to pay them because we never cancelled ONLINE!! They never told us we had to cancel online only...their operator was very used to this problem...apparently we are not the only suckers out there. read more

I live in the country...work from home for a large org & get half my internet costs reimbursed. Due to financial issues, I had to move from my home in the city to my retirement home- where I found that my only options for internet were satellite or Megapath's T-1. My organization would NOT accept the speeds & limitations of satellite, so I went with Megapath. ARGHHH, they are so freakin expensive (almost $700/mo.) but I felt I had no choice. I also did not realize I signed a 3 year agreement. The first year I had them, there were numerous outages that lasted for days. First-level customer service just sucks...as it does with most telcom's, but admittedly, I eventually got to mid-level management and we did work things out - got fixed & I was compensated for the major outages. I find Megapath is about average in overall service compared with other companies. Most of my outages are caused & need to be fixed by AT&T, which I hate dealing with personally, but it's a fact of wired connection. I agree with one of the reviewers....it's Megapath's job to deal with these folks- I also have to wait for them to deal with Nitel, so I've got THREE companies in total to wait on. They DO try...and sometimes do a reasonable job of getting me info- albeit late. As of this date, my service has been pretty reliable- can't wait for this coming winter season- we'll see how often it goes down, lol! My up/down speeds HAVE gone down, but it is frustrating to deal with speeds as slow as my old DSL and be paying so much. They claim I only have 2 pairs of wires & therefor can only get approx 1.5 up/down. I dunno, but I KNOW I was getting faster speeds a month ago??? If I had ANY other choices, I'd probably go for it- and deal with the slower speeds. I will try to renegotiate my contract when it's up, but sure will be considering wireless (Digital Path) IF they put up more towers. For now, I'm stuck! read more

We requested cancellation online (they won't take verbal cancellation orders over the phone) through the Megapath website request form. Of course, this means that no copy will be saved on my end. This was one month ago. A new bill came so I called to tell them we had cancelled a month ago. The rep said that there was a cancellation pending which had been requested yesterday! The guy was so sing-songy happy man that it made it all the more irritated. He informed me that I should look for our cancellation confirmation e-mail and send that in if I wanted to contest the bill. Unfortunately, I found the e-mail in yesterdays mail box and am kicking myself for not confirming cancellation right after I sent in the order weeks ago!!!!! read more

This is one of the worst companies I ever had to deal with. Other reviewers aren't kidding when they complain about tech support. There are only a handful of techs there that are willing to work. Everyone else just tries to get you off the phone with any excuse they can fin. I should had known better when they took about 6 months to complete the initial installation. Every time I had a problem I had to solve it on my own or with the help of tech support from other companies. They will not help you. Deceptive sales practices, bait and switch. I had spoken with a sales rep once over two months ago just to get information on their services and chose not to use them. Out of the blue my staff received a phone call from a sales rep stating that the deadline was approaching and they needed a signature on the DocuSign sales contract they sent to my e-mail. As the CEO any proposal for services would have to be cleared through me. Of course the sales representative and his manager were nowhere to be found when I called. An hour later after lodging a complaint with the President of their company the Sales manager called to say it was just a quote. When I pointed out that it was not a quote but a DocuSign 36 month sales/service contract with the fine print stating "legally binding" , he replied, well you don't have to sign it. If this what they do on the front end I can only imagine what they do to their customers on the back end. I stand corrected, having read numerous reviews I can very much imagine what they do to their customers on the back end and it is not pretty! read more

I have been dealing with megapath for the last 35 days attempting to get T1 service to my employers property. The customer service is TERRIBLE!!!! I do not say this lightly, If you have other options go with them and not with megapath!!!! I have accounted for all the time I have been on the phone and hold times with megapath, and it adds up to be just over 19hrs collectively, this is time out of my day just to get the service installer on the property, each time someone doesn't show up they reschedule another appointment 10 days later. I am writing this while on hold now as a matter of fact. If you call to talk to tech support they will have to call provisioning (which is located in india) and they will call the owners of the lines you are using. Dealing with megapath is like dealing with a kindergarten class playing telephone, you could tell the megapath tech support one thing but by the time it makes it back around the convoluted communication path this company thinks is effective you will have no idea what was said in the beginning. I have been as far as escalation 3 and still have nothing to show for it than being tired of their hold music and being lied to. DO NOT USE megapath (the company does not deserve caps)!!!!!! I put this out there to save anyone who reads this review from wasting their time and money on service that is deplorable!!! Just think, they offer 99.99% uptime, but if you have a problem you will be in my shoes!!!! There are great folks that work for megapath, and luckily I have talked with a few of them, but unfortunately they have to deal with the mgmt that is totally screwed up. No starts. Although the actual reps on the phone were courteous. The service that the company supposedly provides sucks. They could not coordinate with AT&T to provide us with an internet service. It took weeks to get to the final stage of realizing they would never be able to provide us with anything. We've been in business for over 25 years and have never been so frustrated with their lack of knowledge, outsourcing their customer service who know nothing of the situation at a local level. We are still after 2 weeks of cancellation waiting for final cancellation and a RMA to return equipment. Unbelievably the worst company on the planet. I wanted to jump in to provide a balance to all of the negative reviews. I've had Megapath service for a while for a small business and will acknowledge that there have been some ups and downs over the last couple of years including a couple of service outages. Over the last 6 months, the service has definitely improved as has the customer service. Talking with a service manager, they assure me that they are working on the problems that have caused outages and expect reliability to continue to improve. Certainly not perfect, but I believe they have improved off of their "1 Star" level of service in the past. read more

Never, ever worked. Not phone line nor broadband. Phone line was always crackly and faded and in the evening the computer crashed multiple times. Paid on the account for service never used. We eventually cancelled as business was new ownership and they still charged a termination fee for $900. Really!!! Worst ISP VOIP provider. Our company office is using there VOIP system for webex audio meeting. When my user type in the access code for webex it wouldn't go through. Called support and did test calls for them to do the capture for 3 days straight. After that they said they would go through. Then no updates or responses. When I called to complain a day later. They wanted another call test and now it works and they told me since I couldn't reproduce the error they couldn't help me. So what was all that test logs that we did before. Megapath just waits for it to fix itself and when it happens again go through all that again for nothing. And if you want to talk to there Tier 2 person who was working on it good luck seems like you can never get in touch with them. They are really a bad ISP for VOIP were thinking of canceling. Don't use them for VOIP it was better when we were with Speakeasy. Hate when bad companies like Megapath buy out the good companies. read more

Run around, promises of service in my area, lies, said we had to pay 1200 for new install, agreed to pay, then AT&T never showed up to install, claiming there was no facility to install to. Um hello! MEGAPATH and ITS OVERBILLINGS ARE TO BE AVOIDED! We started with Covad, and then got a proposal from Megapath for a $109.00 a month DSL line. We are in a very high security high rise in LA. The Megapath tech came out to install without SPEAKING with our IT guy or us, and was refused entrance because he did not have security clearance and no proof of insurance. That happened in October of 2011. On November 19, I got a billing from Megapath for $380.24 AND WE DID NOT HAVE ANY DSL SERVICE YET! It took me 10 days, but on 11/29 I finally got a hold of a PERSON on the phone at Megapath. She apologized, said the whole billing process was messed up, and that we should not have been billed at all until service was started. I told her we were having trouble getting the Megapath tech OUT to install the line. She told me how to get that done, and that we should not pay until we got service. Once the service was up, she would get involved, straighten out the billing, get us a credit of the improper charges, and we would be good to go. It took another couple of weeks, but on December 16, Megapath got us our new DSL service. I then got a December 22, 2011 billing for $630.30: we had only had 6 days of service! I made multiple calls to Megapath's billing department, and no one answered or returned my calls during January and early February. When I finally got through, I asked for the same lady who had helped me before, I was told she was gone. I was back to square one. I was told that I had to fill out some special forms and to submit them to service for consideration by email. I got confirmation that my forms had been submitted and received, and then 15 to 30 days later, an email telling me it had been considered and addressed. Trouble was, there was no explanation as to what had been done or not done, or why. Again, no one returned our calls. We then got notices that we were late in payments and that we were going to be disconnected. While we had some technical problems with the line, before we could address them, Megapath disconnected us and terminated our contract simply because I wanted a corrected billing before I paid. Today, I figured out the scam when I spoke to the head collection guy. FIANALLY, last week, a very nice person from billing called me, I assume in response to my emails and all the messages I had left. I took him through all the billings we had received, and he understood my reluctance to pay $600+ for nothing when we had no DSL service. I told him I was more than willing to pay for the four months of service we got, not the $1921.02 we were billed by Megapath on May 27, 2012. At the end of the conversation, we had agreed that I would pay for the four months and sign a new contract. In exchange, Megapath would credit the over charged amounts and close out that account. Great. Deal done. Matter resolved. Yesterday he called to set it all up, and then shortly thereafter called to say the deal had been nixed by the collection department. When I finally spoke to the collection guy today, I learned how Megapath does business: it is not the service, or long term relationship they are after, it is the money they believe they can collect aggressively applying the terms of their one sided "agreement" which I was repeatedly reminded we had signed. According to the Megapath collection manager, we only had 60 days to challenge a billing, and even if we challenged it, we still had to pay it and then submit an application for a refund. If Megapath felt it was warranted, it might return the money. When I told him I was being billed for DSL services we never got, he said we were bound by the terms of the agreement we signed. AND, because we had not paid the billings, despite our complaints, Megapath could terminate the contract and begin to apply early termination fees. I could not believe it. I told him I had struck a deal with Megapath last week and he told me that deal was gone. He said I was obligated to pay the termination charges, and that I would have to pay them. I reminded him that it was Megapath the terminated our agreement, not us, and that termination charges did not apply. He said I would have to pay the termination charges, and that the matter would be turned over to collections. Megapath's goal is not happy or well serviced customers, but charging and collecting fees under the terms of its agreement. And, if it can collect for DSL services it has not even provided, all the better. That is how and why Megapath has billed us $1920+ for four months of $109 a month DSL services. Not bad. $1400 for not providing ANYTHING. Clearly we are going to fight it, as Megapath cannot charge for services it did not provide. If you have had similar experiences with Megapath, I would like to know about it, as what they are doing does not appear to be legal. read more

Our business has had endless issues with trying to cancel service with Megapath. No less than 10 phone calls PROMISING our issues are resolved and the very next month another bogus bill. Now we have mailed a check for .23, yes 23 cents to try and be done with them. This was April 18th, guess what just arrived again today???? Another .23 cent bill. We canceled service in JANUARY! We wish we had read these reviews before signing with Megapath. We have had a horrible experience with Megapath for the entire three months we have had them for VOIP and internet. We have a 20 person office. Our phones have almost constant issues that MP cannot or will not fix. We have had calls that had such poor quality that participants hung up. When we complained to MP, MP claimed its records showed the call was nearly perfect. Latency has been a problem, causing periodic 2-3 second intervals during which our end hears nothing. Internet is slow with any significant use. MP apparently has no local service presence and is unable to fix problems. I have never done a yelp review before, but felt strongly that we owed it to other potential victims of MP. Based on our experience, I could not more strongly recommend you stay away from MP. read more

While there was some confusion early on in the merger concerning where to go for support, we have been satisfied with their overall service. We have found them to be responsive to our support issues. Okay folks: This is not a review of MegaPath services, but rather it's hiring practices. Recently, I've received a call from Volt Technical Services. They wanted me to work with MegaPath for a technical/customer support position. Yes, I've would've been one of the guys you would call for help. There's just one problem: I wanted to know about this company before had these recruiters represent me. I've found that Yelp had some reviews on MegaPath. I've checked the many BAD REVIEWS on this company and I've decided to call one of their support people to hear for myself. So I've reached out to them and I asked some questions to the basic tune of "What it like to work for this company?" I didn't leave my name and stated in advance that I wasn't a customer ; that I wanted to know about their "services". At no time did I tried for a direct hire. After a brief conversation with the receptionist, I was transferred to a technician. The technician I've spoken to seemed fairly defensive though he said the doing the job wasn't bad. Not long after I broke from the call, I got a call from the recruiter that stated I was disqualified because I had the audacity to research this company. And to be honest, this is probably a good thing. If they treat someone like me who could've made THEM BETTER ; WHO COULD'VE HELPED YOU, the customer better, then how are they treating customers like you? Thus please avoid this company, LIKE THE PLAGUE! read more

We have been Speakeasy customers for the past 3 years and were happy with them. Ever since the merger with Megapath, we have experienced nothing but problems after problems. When you call to try to get the issue resolved, NO one has an answer. When you ask to speak to a manager, NO one is ever available. They tell you someone will give you a call back and guest what? You never hear from them. They have the worse customer service ever. If I had to scale them on a scale of 1-10 I would give them a -10, this is how awful they are. Dont do it. This company is an amalgamation of several other businesses and they simply do not have their organization in order. I inherited MegaPath as a satisfied customer of Speakeasy Internet Provider. Based upon MegaPath's advertised offerings of additional bandwidth I ordered it. Like many others who have reviewed this company, the service simply never worked. They were very good at the "optics" of the follow-up calls from "representatives" who, in my experience, could barely speak English and who had absolutely zero understanding of the script they were reading. My business went without the Internet for almost a month. If you can believe it I had to run a small office by tethering our mobile phones (Verizon). Ultimately after daily calls for customer service (and repeated automated follow-up calls from MegaPath who would certify the "fix" as accomplished even though it was not) I capitulated and walked into a local TimeWarner physical store, they gave me a cable modem and my office was back online..... at 6x the speed and dependability. Of course I cancelled the service and to make a story short, MegaPath still sought to charge my business for the frustrating abdication of their obligation by contract to provide service. I was fully prepared to go to small claims court to seek rememdy from this fraudulent charged and began to prepare a subpoena of their technical support records to support my claim. So far I have not heard from the debt collection team again. In my opinion, MegaPath EPONYMOUSLY represents the sham Wall Street miracles of high growth by acquisition, resulting in a sham of a company who will ultimately have to sell off its pieces/subsidiaries.... all the while the investors and bankers are paid on the way in and the way out. They absolutely ruined an otherwise awesome company in Speakeasy who had an exceptional commitment to customer service and VERY knowledgeable and conscientious sales and support staff. There has been one thing that has worked with MegaPath and that is I did buy a remote patch which cost about 40% of the cost of Verizon's remote patch. It took some massaging to get it in place but it has been a thankfully uneventful service since we implemented it. My recommendation would be to avoid MegaPath at all costs however. If I could give zero stars, I would. It is a non-starter. You should pursue regional players or national palyers with a significant local presence.... after all it remains difficult to avoid the former RBOCs and cable companies. Good luck read more

Company of deception. We were LONG time customers of this organization through various takeovers/mergers/acquisition. Speakeasy, then Covad now Megapath. Several months ago we requested to have our bandwidth increased via the phone. They explained the increase in the monthly fee, sent over a form to sign to authorize it. We decided to switch providers to save some money and go to cancel our service. We've been socked with having to pay a 50% penalty on a THREE YEAR CONTRACT. At no time during the phone call with sales/service was it explained to us that we had to commit to such a contract when we increased our bandwidth. Really? In the fine print on the so called "authorization" we signed, is a mention of the 3 years. I'm sorry, but I know contracts are contracts, but this was a blatant act of deception. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXPLAINED TO US. I have NEVER in the years of dealing with cable internet or other DSL providers have had to sign a term contract, neither initially nor when the level of service changes. Of course, their stellar customer support retorts "I'm sorry but this is what your contract says". We were in process of the switch, then we cancelled otherwise we would have been left without internet and phone. Now they say we owe them a hideously large sum of money. Edited to add that we are a residential customer and not a business. Who treats residential customers this way? In addition, I am a part owner of a small business and we've used Speakeasy/Covad/Megapath because we had stellar experience with Speakeasy. Needless to say, Megapath will lose TWO customers as a result of this. read more

We recently moved our corporate office and replaced our T1 service, with MegaPath bonded T1 3.0M service. The salesman was on top of everything and the install went very smoothly. So far everything has been great. Tech support was quick when I called in about our IP block and router setup. I have been trying to cancel service and stop billing since November 2013. I tried several times through their portal, tried talking to tech support, tried talking to billing and sent a cancellation in writing with signature confirmation. I am still getting invoices. I have now contacted my lawyer. At the minimum I am having him send a cease and desist letter. We are also looking into grounds to sue. Not happy that I have to spend $$$ on a lawyer but Megapath will ruin my credit and have debt collectors hounding me if I don't. read more

What an idiot I am. I signed up with promises and a 3-year contract for voice and internet. The voice is horrible - long gaps with everyone coming back on later going "hello, hello? can you hear me?" No way to run a business. They've been out many times and never been able to fix it. The internet is completely unreliable and frequently drops packets to the extent that it becomes unusable for anything but email and consumer-grade applications. Worst of all, they are completely unrepentant. Once you sign up, they have you by the throat and they won't let go. No credits, no refunds, and early termination means you have to pay the balance of the contract immediately. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company and it's parent and siblings like the plague. read more

Please do not sign any contracts with this company. They are a bunch of lawyers trying to get you to do just that so they can charge you for their lack of service if you try to cancel. They will make you pay the amount of the contract you signed if you try to cancel. Here is the deal, if you need to cancel put in as many tech support tickets as you can to show that their service sucks. They decide if there is enough tickets to waive your cancellation fee. Call them everyday, every hour if you can. Once you do this call Comcast Business- you pay 1% of what you would pay to Megapah and for faster service. read more

Stay away from Megapath. We have 100 locations and were using MegaPath to manage our WAN. This has been a 7 year relationship. Now we asked to have the lines change of responsibility and ownership transfered to us there is no response. This has been going on for over a year now. They also charge $29.95 a month to monitor each line. We asked for this charge to be dropped but they will not do it. We are not under contract but the lines handle all VPN traffic. Megapath owns the Quest, TDS, or Frontier lines to our stores and will not release the lines to us. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I've been a customer for a year, and wish I wasn't. They have terrible customer service - probably the worst I've ever experienced. EXAMPLE: Today I got my invoice in the mail, which is due tomorrow, and was told by customer service that if I don't want to be late with my payment I should request invoices via email instead of by mail, and by the way, paper invoices will now cost me an additional $5 per month. I was a Speakeasy.net DSL customers before they merged with Covad and MegaPath. Since the merger NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. Most recently they are now charging me an early termination fee because they claim we "signed" an online contract for a year of service (we'd been a Speakeasy customer for over 10 years!) My company signed a contract with Megapath on August 12, 2012 for a new circuit. It is now February 12, 2012 and we still don't have a circuit. I understand there are construction issues, but this is a ridiculous amount of time to have to endure to get a circuit. I would think twice before ever adding new services with Megapath. read more

We use megapath for ourselves and several clients. Most of the issues we have seen are unreasonable expectations on the end user side and not having any inhouse resources to perform the install. Like all large internet and hosted voip providers that are nationwide they suck but Megapath at least responds when you call and does fix issues. Their merger with Speakeasy was very rocky 2 years ago but seems to have calmed down now. The staff there seems to be working through the issues unlike ATT or Verizon which are lost in the wilderness forever.. read more

I'll make this short, but not so sweet. I have recently begun the process of suing them for breach of contract due to such poor audio quality that our phones were useless for the better part of 2013. I have been in business for almost 30 years and never have I experienced anything close to their incredibly frustrating incompetence and impotence.
