    Megabus New York City

We take Megabus from White Marsh MD to New York City regularly. While I'm sure one day we'll run into delays (because how can you not at some point on 95) so far we've had flawless experiences. The buses are clean and the seats are comfortable. They leave on time and so far have always arrived on time. They drop off midtown in NYC and it's easy to navigate from there. Parking in White Marsh is free and plentiful and I've never had problems with that as well. For the money definitely the cheapest and most hassle free way to get to NYC.

Dec, 2019: My wife and I were headed back home from New York, on a Mega Bus, I sat in the stairwell and my wife sat in an actual seat because of a polite gentleman who had an extra seat. This was because a woman sat in our reserved "seats" that we payed extra for and the bus driver was very rude and informed us that he was not going to ask this woman to move to her actual assigned seat. He told us we were lucky to even be on the bus. I called Mega Bus customer service and of course just like the driver had a rude and unprofessional customer service rep, who provided us with no help or assistance at all. I also told the driver you obviously we're not checking boarding passes, which seemed pretty important.

This trip was probably the most upsetting of my bus rides. My trip from New York to Baltimore started with the bus not having well working air conditioning. We were in the top of the bus and it was about just as hot as it would be outside! Later on it started to pour outside and then pour inside the bus! Water was leaking immensely from the ceiling all over me and my bags! I had to move my bags but by that time they were already drenched as well as my clothing. The floors were soaked and so slippery that my friend fell down the stairs on the way off the bus!

Smooth ride and on time. My husband and I took the mega bus on our day trip to NYC from White Marsh, Md. It is so relaxing and fast. We can slept most of the time since we took an early ride. The bus can go into the city by bus only lane which saved time. When parking at white marsh, park on the west side and print out the mega bus sign with license plate depart and return date then leave it in the dashboard of your car. Arrive 30 minutes early and get inline to get better seating Choose the seat that will stay in the shade by anticipating the travel time. Bring water, snack, foods if needed. The restroom is small and not the best. No water to wash hands, only hand sanitizer The line at 11th and 34th at can be long, so be prepared if it rains and look for the sign to your city. The people are decent group and quiet. We definitely will take the bus again

The double deckers are usually clean. Small small seats. Wear layers for temperature fluctuations.

MegaBus is the cheapest way I've found to get to NYC from Baltimore. I've taken it 4-5 round trips. Cheap means you have to adjust your expectations accordingly. I'd say MegaBus is essentially like public transit in the developing world (except usually a little cleaner with nicer upholstery). That means it will sometimes be late, sometimes on time. Sometimes everything breaks down and you have to wait forever. No customer service or support. Temperature is unpredictable. Even the dispatchers don't have information. Seats are tiny. It is what it is. I expect this, thus I'm ambivalent. It's a roll of the dice. I do wish you could book a specific seat. I usually travel with my spouse and we rarely have luck sitting together. This is because the bus stops in DC first and so the bus is half full when it gets to Baltimore, and unlike airplanes where you can get people to switch an aisle seat for a different aisle seat, people on MegaBus seem to dig in and not want to move. I don't think we've ever gotten anyone to move. The DC riders will also put all their stuff on seats next to them or pretend to be asleep on two seats to encourage you to sit elsewhere so they get their own row. So riding from Baltimore, expect it to be frustrating. All this said, MegaBus is for a super flexible traveler who expects the worst and is pleasantly surprised if things go okay. I keep taking it because it's usually a 3-5 hour ride and it's easier and more affordable than dealing with a car in NYC. If I could afford Amtrak I would do that instead. But Amtrak can also be late so....shrug.

I don't need him to talk to me but when I take other buses, usually they at least greet the passengers. Not this guy! The bus itself isn't even that comfy. I had always heard such good things about this bus, but not sure I can say anything good about my experience. It's cheap and they made a brief reststop break (15 minutes) in Delaware. Anyway, the bus is freezing cold and I thought maybe it just takes awhile to warm up. Hours later and not any better. It's literally 20 degrees outside so heat is needed on here! Someone went up to ask the driver about turning up the heat. He ignored her and mumbled something about it's having technical issues. Smh! As I said, I'm DONE! Let me go put my gloves back on before I get frost bite!!!

DC to NY on 5/31/11…read more This is an honest review with both good & bad. The Bad: 1) Upon arrival at Union station there were 3 lines to get on the bus. A,B,C none which were marked. A was let on followed by B in an orderly fashion but C was a Free-For-All which sucked if u got there early & had someone in the back just run up ahead of you. 2) Not all seats have outlets OR footrests. You will need these footrests as the leather seats have a slight downward slope to them which was extremely uncomfortable causing you to edge forward. We had neither convenience in our seat row. 3) Nothing was shown on the TV's 4) Bathroom had no light at all. 5) getting luggage off is another Free-For-All 6) There was no rest stop to use a proper restroom or stretch your legs. The Good: 1) Allowed to show confirmation via smartphone. 2) AC was comfortable 3) Bus appeared clean & relatively new. 4) Seats are reclinable and armrests lift although there is zero lumbar support on the Leather Seats 5) Overhead storage wasn't bad. 6) Back of seat has drink holder 7) FREE WiFi if you can get it to work. 8) Price was good for what you get Overall Verdict, worth the $ if you know where to sit & are prepared. My personal experience is why I gave a 3 star. If we had gotten a good seat it might have been four. The zero light in the bathroom & unorganized boarding process would still make it only four stars. Check my pictures I uploaded some of the back of the seats as well as what the NYC drop off point looks like.

Besides, BestBus's ride between NY and DC does't disappoint. I don't take good customer service and lost and found service from bus companies due to my last nightmare! When I forgot my suitcase after waking up from a nap (another bus company), I realized their call center is outsourced to India, who could not help me reach their ground office in D.C.. I had to be very resourceful and ubered directly to their parking lot to find my suitcase (luckily). Ever since that, I try not to choose bus companies without robust customer support. My experience with BestBus was a breeze. I filled out the lost and found form on their website and called. I was quickly helped and received an email confirming my iPhone was identified within two days. I provided an USPS shipping label and they shipped the phone back to me safe and sound. I'll pay it forward by recommending Best Bus to everyone I know!

I was thrilled to see that the 7am bus from DuPont Circle was waiting when I arrived at 6:45, and that I was able to board immediately. Not only was there a working electrical outlet, but the WiFi signal was strong and effect. Those were the "best" parts of the expert - it was all downhill from there. I didn't realize there was an additional stop at Union station, and that took quite a while. The driver was very friendly and courteous, but the 15-minute rest stop that turned into 20 minutes made it clear that speed isn't really a priority for this service. We arrived at the stop on West 34th Street and 9th Ave at 12:10pm, and while it was much quicker to park there than it is near Penn station, if I have to walk to Penn station anyway, this isn't much of a plus for me. Probably the most annoying thing about today was that my 5:30pm return trip was cancelled due to technical issues and I had to cut my trip half an hour short(er) to get the 5pm replacement trip instead. I appreciate getting an early notification about the return bus snafu so I was able to adjust my plans accordingly, and I know these things can happen, but if I'm going to be on buses and trains for 12 hours in a day, losing that half hour of planned productivity really isn't great I'll allow that BestBus likely has the best service I've experienced on an Intercity bus in terms of courtesy and communication. And the DuPont Circle is super convenient for me before the metro is running on a Saturday. Beyond that though, this isn't my preferred choice for travel to New York.

I was hesitant about choosing Washington Deluxe because the reviews were super critical. However, most of the issues seemed to be with reservation issues. I made a slight mistake in choosing the wrong stop when leaving DC - called customer service - received a quick and easy solution. I paid for us to take the Lux bus to New York and was glad I did. People were pretty critical about booking and then being on a standard bus. However, if you read the website and observe the bus schedule - it clearly points out which bus is designated as a Lux bus. We were treated to a free water and ample seating. I wish I would have taken photos but the ones provided by the company are exactly what the bus is like. The driver was friendly and even though we stopped twice, once to change drivers and another at a rest stop, we still made it to NYC arriving only 10 minutes after the scheduled time. Which granted, the roads were clear, but I also think the driving had something to do with it. WiFi was solid, charging outlets worked...no complaints. Now, we are heading back on the standard bus. I'm using the free WiFi and from what I've observed, the outlets work. But sadly it's raining, so I anticipate a longer ride back. For the price I paid and the fact I don't have to drive - again, no complaints about that. The only complaint I do have is with the cramped seating. If you've ever flown Spirit airlines (sorry, not sorry Spirit) and have experienced that level of seating - this is similar. However, they're comfy and clean, and for that, I'm grateful.
