I've historically had a good experience at BestBus but unfortunately have been disappointed on my recent trip. The trip was 1.5 hours delayed beyond the original ETA - while I can understand traffic being out of BestBus' control, adding a 35 minute stop at the rest stop when we were already behind schedule is not appropriate. This delayed the ETA and increased traffic, and was entirely within BestBus' control - and no compensation is being offered for the inconvenience for all passengers being 1.5 hours late beyond the ETA. This is the worst bus service I never experienced. I made a reservation to Vienna, Virginia, from NYC today, June 6, at 4:00pm. When we arrived at the pickup place at 3:25 in 85 degree temperature, the agent told us that the bus had mechanical problem and would leave at 5:00. We waited for additional 1.5 hours. But, I did not see anyone doing any mechanical work for the bus. I strongly suspect that they did not have enough customers and canceled the bus and rescheduled ours at 5:00pm. After 4:30 we rode the bus, we suffered for a half hour without air inside the bus window closed in 85 degree weather. When we were making the reservation, we paid a higher price for prime bus. But, the 5:00 bus we took was regular, not prime, bus. read more

I took the bus direct to NYC from the Vienna Metro Station. i highly recommend taking this bus to anyone who wants to get to NYC without the hassle of flying or getting into DC to take Amtrak. Door to door from my home in Loudoun County was so much quicker than flying out of Dulles airport or on the train from Union Station. The bus was clean and the seats comfortable. The reason I am giving is twofold: My trip to NYC was a full hour late(states to arrive at 11:20am and I actually arrived at 12:23pm). Also, BestBus needs to offer a Vienna-NYC bus earlier than 7:20am. I went up in the early morning and came back the same day for business. If BestBus can better accommodate this type of traveler, I feel they will score a major win. Besides the above, I loved my trip. The bus was spacious and firm really flew by. On one of my trips, the driver stopped at a rest area and gave everyone 20 minutes to meet back at the bus--but I am told this is rare. My trip back to Vienna was on time and overall I would probably do it again versus going all the way down to Union Station. read more

Finally a clean, upscale, and direct bus service from Vienna to NYC. The service is even better now since they cut out the stop in Springfield which added about an hour to the trip. I hope they continue to roll out the new BestBus Prime which is well worth the extra $20. While this is technically a review of a competing bus service, I am reposting here for anyone who is on the fence deciding which service to use. Here I am again feeling like that pedantic privileged consumer complaining about first world problems. I hope you read on and make your own assessments. We typically use BestBus to make runs to NYC from Vienna VA who claim to be the best, maybe they are based upon my recent experience. Over the holiday weekend we traveled to NYC. Unfortunately, for reasons that still elude me, BestBus did not have ANY service posted on the web page for the Sunday of our return and we were trying to book months in advance. So, we wound up booking on a competitor Go Bus. We make this journey at least once a quarter. We have tried multiple methods, train, drive, fly, and bus. I have to say the concept of being able to get on a bus and then chill out while someone else navigates the traffic and pays the tolls, all at a reasonable price, is quite appealing. Based upon our ride yesterday, 08-OCT-2023, Go Bus will be our last resort. Well, I have rambled long enough so let me get to the things I feel Go Bus failed with: 1- The competitor always provides at least one bottle of water. I usually travel fully armed for my needs; but this time we were short on time. I did not bring water, and none was offered. (yeah, first world problem) 2 - The pickup location in NYC has two signs labeled VA - Vienna so there is no way to discern which line to queue. As the bus is open seating, I feel obliged to be there early enough that my spouse and I can get seating together and not right in front of the bathroom. When I finally found an employee to ask, he was dismissive and informed me he only knew details about his bus and his route. 3 - Upon boarding we were directed to open doors on the side bays of the bus where we should load our own luggage. (eh.. not so big a deal as long as your luggage is well closed and substantive) 4 - The bus itself was defiantly showing signs of age an ware. The window at my seat was opaque to the point of not being as much a window as a skylight. 5 - Finally, and the motivation for this review, when we arrived in Vienna VA, the driver disembarked, opened the bay area, and then went about 200 ft away to have a cigarette leaving the passengers to crawl into the bay and retrieve their own luggage. While I am not yet old enough to be fragile, I am old enough that my knees do not work the way they once did. Adding to that, I could afford to lose a considerable amount of weight, I am more than a bit put out at having to crawl into the belly of beast on my own. Thank you for reading. 3.5 stars. It's a bus. It's affordable. Took out of Vienna metro station and the process was easy at both stops. Trip up to NYC was on the standard bus and return trip was on the Prime bus. Prime is definitely roomier enough to be worth a few extra bucks, if there is one that meets your schedule. As other reviews have noted, we were in the second row on way back, having a normal conversation while people were boarding, and the driver came up and asked that we be quiet once we get underway so he could "concentrate". He was relatively polite about it, and having driven in the city myself I totally understand where he's coming from, but can you seriously expect a busload of 40+ people to be quiet? If you can't tune out a reasonable amount of noise then you should ask for a little sound divider behind the driver's seat or you should look at getting another job. read more

Don't take the BestBus from NYC to Vienna Fairfax Metro station! Before getting on board the guy said it is going directly with no stop. However, on the way down the bus stopped at the Union Station, Washington DC with no passenger getting off and delaying another 30 minutes to already late bus. The lady sitting next to me said this is their 3rd time so I am guessing this is how they do their business. I've heard all kinds of horror stories about taking buses, like, anywhere. So I was not optimistic about busing all the way from DC to NYC, but Best Bus exceeded my expectations. We were picked up promptly (...ish; they come from Mananas first, and traffic, what can you do) at the Vienna Metro stop and friendly staff checked our names off the list as we boarded and loaded our suitcases under the bus. It was cool, clean, had no smell at all (what you hope for in a long-distance transport vehicle) and as a bonus, not crowded either. We were traveling with four and had room to spread out over several rows. Our neighbor's mother lives in NYC and takes Best Bus to visit them every few months, and she has never seen it crowded. It is good to note that you do stop in Springfield before heading up to NYC if you depart from Vienna Metro. It was a bit of a pain, heading the opposite direction for the first bit of the trip, but the driver made good time and we were back on the road (in the HOT lanes! woohoo!) in no time. The restroom was clean and, again, didn't smell like anything. The AC was just right, the seats were cozy enough to lean back (a little) and nap. I was also astounded what good time we made. Better than we've ever done driving. They drop you off just around the corner from Penn Station. We dropped our suitcases off at a Vimeo location (highly recommend this, globe-trotters!) and explored NYC in complete freedom for the day. A pleasant drive and only $25-35 a ticket! Guys. You can't beat it. You'll pay twice that in tolls and gas, and that's not counting parking in NYC. Best Bus is the way to go. :) read more

I'm writing to review ONLY the ~$40 Bestbus Prime from Manhattan to DC. Family and work commitments have made me into a seasoned NYC/DC/NYC/DC... bus traveller. I've learned it's worth it to pay for a decent bus - BestBus or better, and I've been looking for a truly comfortable bus service that still costs ~$60 or less. BestBus Prime is NOT that bus. Apart from the two-seat/aisle/one-seat configuration, I cant really tell what benefits Prime has over standard service and I believe it holds some significant drawbacks. I didn't bring my calipers, but the extra leg room claim rings hollow. If it exists, I believe it's negligible. Staff are nice but BestBus staff are usually nice and staff anywhere should be nice! The reason I'm unhappy with my $40 one-way ticket is that I expected the actual ride to be more comfortable, or at very least, equal to standard BestBus trips. Far from it, this bus is bouncing like a dang superball. Schoolchildren would love this bus. I can't relax and i even removed the straw frkm my soda out of real fear that some bump in the road would leave me blind . I tried to read but gave up to write this review. The aminities may be improved but the experience of riding on this bus stinks. This paragraph is wild guesswork as while Bestbus strongly imply a better quality of bus jn their promo materials, the no not share any info about their fleet... i believe this Prime bus is at least a generation older than the standard-service Bestbus models. Since i'm guessing, i bet it uses cheap suspension, solid (not independent) axels,and lacks the dampers that most 'luxury' busses feature. I would further guess that the newer buses comprising Washington Deluxe/BestBus, etc's standard fleets have incorporated features that reduce the rolling and pitching that I'm currently enjoying. I don't expect a Prime bus to have special, pothole-free roads, but I am surprised at how much worse this Prime bus copes with any bump. I guess the reason I wrote this is to suggest that we, the smart (very smart?) bus-service consumers shop for comfortable rides, not amities alone. I want to believe a peaceful, comfortable, sub $60 NYC - DC bus service is possible, but I need to keep looking. This company is run by crooks. AVOID!!! Their so-called non-stop service from DC to to New York is NOT non-stop. In fact, they stop at multiple locations and don't expect to leave on time. My ticket said departure at 5:15 from DuPont circle but in fact the bus did not leave DC until 6 pm because of UNANNOUNCED additional stop. When I tried to chat with their customer service they hung up on me. Zero concern for customers. All they care about is to take your money and cram as many passengers as possible even if it means arriving an hour later at your destination. And chargers in their buses don't work so forget about using your phone or tablet for longer trips. read more

I'm not much of a taking the bus fan, but Best Bus is as good as it gets from my experience. I used to hate having to take a bus to New York from DC, so when I saw Best Bus offers this pick up location, I was pretty excited. The bus picked us up at Vienna metro station after having picked people up in Manassas first and then stopping in Dupont Circle. On the way back the bus stopped in 3 places: Springfield, Vienna metro, Manassas. The New York stop is Penn Station. The check-in process was very simple and fast. They offer free cold bottled water and take a vote on whether people want to go express or make stops. Both buses (to and from New York) were clean (have bags for trash in each row) and as comfortable as they can be. There are phone charger plugs, and free wifi (spotty, but free). Luckily I didn't have to use the bathroom, but people who have didn't seem to complain and everyone smelled like hand sanitizer :) Expect to hit some traffic, but no worries because the bus drivers did their best at getting us to our destinations as fast as possible while driving safely. If I ever had to take a bus to New York again, it would be Best Bus. read more

First timer best bus user right here. What really got me to use best bus was the convenience of being picked up at the Franconia Springfield metro. We left on a Friday afternoon and returned Sunday night so we actually got to park for free at the metro since it was the weekend. The check in process was easy, the attendant was super friendly, and the driver was great as well. The bus was clean, the bathroom was clean, and the ride there was smooth and fast. The way back was a little more packed and we ended up sitting right in front of the bathroom door that would continuously swing open if people didn't latch it properly after exiting the bathroom. I wanted to be able to leave a bad review, because things didn't go 100% smoothly, but Best Bus made everything alright in the end. This was my first experience with them and I will definitely use them again. I live in Fairfax, so this is much easier for me then going into Arlington or DC to use their competitor's buses. Things didn't start out good though. My bus was supposed to leave the Vienna Metro at 7:30am, so I got there at 7. There was no representative there, so it was general chaos. No line, no organization. Just a big mob of people standing around. Their ticket said if you are not there and checked in 15 minutes before leaving time your seat will be sold, but their representative wasn't even there 15 minutes before the scheduled leave time....nor was the bus. The bus didn't show up until 7:22 and the bus driver (without even checking if anyone had a ticket) just told the whole unorganized crowd to get on. This led to a free for all of pushing and shoving. Every man for themselves! I ended up having to take the last seat in the bus next to the smelly restroom, even though I was there at the bus stop before 80% of the people in the mob. This is why we needed a representative there to tell people to form a line. Oh, the first person to use the restroom next to me was the bus driver. Keep this in mind for later. The person who was supposed to check us in BEFORE we got on the bus didn't show up until almost 7:30, and just shouted out names from the front of the bus while people raised their hands, like we were in school. We left late because of her lateness. There was also no free bottled water given out. There was also no promised stop halfway to NYC or a vote to make a stop. We pulled into a rest stop/travel plaza and parked and everyone got excited we could get out, get something to eat, and use a real restroom...but that stop was just so the bus driver could use the bus restroom....again. Was he chugging gallons of water up there or something? But all this negative stuff actually turned out positive because instead of 5 hours or 4 and a half hours, the bus actually got there early - in just 4 hours 10 minutes. And this is with heavy traffic when we got close to NYC. For the return trip I had paid extra for Best Bus Prime, which is a much nicer bus with more leg room, more space in general, and more amenities. I got to the stop a half hour early for the return trip and the guy checking people in said my bus had broken down and I should call customer service immediately to see if they could get me on a regular bus. I didn't want to be stranded in NYC, so I called customer service and got a rude woman who snapped "I just got here, I don't know nuthin about that, my supervisor don't know nuthin about that, and if your bus was really cancelled you'd get a text or email". I was just like "Ummmm OK. I'll wait for the text or email then". A bus did eventually show up, not a Prime bus, just a regular Best Bus. It was nicer than the one I arrived on though. Leather seats and newer, but still 2 seats on each side of the aisle and the same legroom. There were only 7 of us on it though, so I could sit anywhere I wanted and we could all spread out. It was a MUCH more pleasant ride home. Halfway thru the bus ride home, I finally did get an email from Best Bus telling me my bus was broken down. They also apologized for not being able to put me on a Prime bus due to the fact it broke down. They then said they had put a FREE ticket for a future Prime bus ride in my account. So that was very nice of them. I was just expecting a credit for the difference in price between a regular and Prime bus ticket. So as I said at the beginning, even though some things went wrong, they made it right in the end. I endorse Best Bus as a good company and will use them again. read more

I just called BestBus customer service to ask a simple question that I did not received my eticket, the representative yelled at me when I asked if she can send to me yahoo email. She yelled at me and said "I just sent it!!!..." she was extremely rude, vicious and nasty! Knowing how she is, I graciously thanked her for doing it but was completely stunned. This is why I decided to write this review. I have never experienced nasty customer service before with any companies. BestBus needs to do something about this representative!! The rival bus service offers better travel hours (11 AM departure for example) but the buses are showing signs of age. This is a review for the Best Bus that picks up at the Franconia-Springfield metro. I took Best Bus from VA to NY and it was awesome. It was punctual, and check-in was easy. You don't need to bring your printed confirmation cause they check the names on their system. They offer free water and the cupholders worked fine for me. We left right at the set time and they didn't take a vote to stop or do a driver switch. The wifi worked perfectly the whole time. We actually got there a little earlier than expected, so the whole ride was just over 4 hours on a Friday night. Much better than I could do. The way back on Sunday was just as good. The bathrooms were clean and there was sanitizer. There was one quick driver switch and it didn't take long at all. My only complaint is that if someone is sitting next to you, the seats are a little tight, especially with bags, but if you luck out with a whole row to yourself, it's the most comfortable ride. #GoBestBusVA read more

This bus service deserves 10 stars. It is my second time heading to NY from VA and I love using this service for various reasons: Never stops for rest in the middle of the way so one way and one gets on time to NY, secondly, convenient drop off locations and picking up locations. Nearby Penn station in NY, you cannot get lost and nice parking lot in Vienna Stations VA. My family loved it. On our way back from NY, the driver waited on us till we got to our car as it was dark and late at night in the parking lot but the driver was kind enough to wait for us reaching our car to be safe and sound. He deserves a big applause for being kind. The route takes around 4.5 hours of course five and take but overall I am pleased with the service. Will I do it again? Sure in the summer though :-) read more

The fares are reasonable and it gets you from VA to NY on time (I took the morning bus so no traffic issues). Giving it a minus two stars because they advertise wifi as an amenity and the connections were broken on both the departing bus and returning bus (bus801 and 802). An incident on each bus: Bus driver stepped on the brakes too quickly while we were departing NYC and a lady from the front seat fell and slid on the aisle. Bus driver on 802 literally honked at every driver and made the passengers feel uncomfortable and there were plenty of chatter about it. Bathrooms overflowed when you flushed and no toilet paper was available. Please do not advertise your amenities if they fail to work. The bus guides should check these from time to time and it should be part of a quality control procedure. read more

I commute to NY for work several times a month. When Best Bus opened a route from the Vienna, VA Metro to Penn Station I couldn't believe my luck. No longer do I have to metro down to Union Station for a train. A fraction of the cost of the train, which is always crowded with business travelers and tourists, Best Bus saves me time and money. Friendly staff (free water!) and terrific on-time record. The wi-fi is unreliable, but it is as least as good as Amtrak's, and better than other buses.
