The staff is always kind and helpful in person, and far superior to my previous compounding pharmacy, which has fortunately gone out of business. I needed some custom medicine dosage and my doctor's office sent it to Peoples Rx. And while I liked the shop and its proximity to me, I had sticker shock with how much I'd be paying out of pocket per month. I did some googling and contacted a few other pharmacies and MedSavers was the one that got back to me quickly and quoted me the price, which was a fraction of my original cost and within my budget. After confirming with them, they were able to transfer and prepare it shortly after. These guys are the best, especially if you do not have insurance. They only sell generics and don't take insurance, so many of your meds will cost less here. They also compound meds! The staff is always helpful and will take the time to find answers if they don't know them. Chris, the owner, has diagnosed several of my issues that doctors and even specialists have missed. And they are not just for humans--you should always check prices for furbaby meds here, especially if they have to be compounded. This is small company that compounds formulas and has an array of supplements as well for sale on the shelves. However they have bankers hours and closed for days during the holidays. I've been getting prescriptions from them for over a year and both thanksgivings I've been stuck without being able to refill a prescription for 6 days. So not only were they closed for 5 days but also backlogged for days to fill it. It's just the timing that the holiday lands on. I now am on alert to always have a month supply surplus so this does t happen ever again. It's frustrating as it needs to be okayed by the doctor to fill in advance and to contact the pharmacy to allow time to compound it. I'm not sure if it's a staffing issue or if they don't have any plans for being open longer hours and not taking days off for a holiday. read more

Proof that a family-owned, old-school pharmacy is as good as one imagines. Sought niche custom prescription not typically held by any pharmacy. Asked to speak to the owner. Yes, owner. "Chris Johnson here; how may I help?" Excuse me, the genuine owner. Mr. Johnson is helpful, knowledgeable, empathic, and, best of all, the decision-maker. He found a supplier; compounds arrived and were formulated within a week. The staff is super professional. I was told up-front that it does not accept insurance. That said, the website indicates matching, even beating, corporate insurance pricing, and other paradoxes, such as Good RX. (If one needed more evidence of the U.S. pharmaceutical racket, this is it.) I can't confirm since my "insurance" didn't cover the compound. For my more routine medicines, I'll call to compare prices. If within the ballpark, I won't hesitate to give MedSavers the business. Love this pharmacy but did want to note, since the latest review says postage is free... this is not true. Not anymore, at least. They just (last week) told me it would be $5 to ship to Riverside area. I will say though -- they are VERY quick to ship items so it might be worth it for some. when I first came to Austin we found MedSavers through our doctors office (central family practice) and were instantly in love with how they run business and care about getting affordable medicine to the hands of the community. we felt really lucky to have found them.... Fast forward a year and a half and I'm here to write what outstanding service I received from them yet again. In and out of the doctors office the last couple weeks filling prescriptions, in a massive amount of pain, and the pharmacist Chris takes the time to show me some cbd oil - suggest I rub it in and think about using it in the future if I don't wind up getting relief from the steroids. I took it to heart and left.... spent another week in pain, and then since I'm starting a new job decide to run in and in a last ditch effort try the cbd lotion. within 24 hours, not even kidding I began feeling a huge amount of relief - more than I had the entire Time I was on all other pain meds and anti inflammatories from the doctor. I began to have movement throughout my entire body for the first time in weeks. I CANNOT Believe what this cream has done for over the last 36 hours and I can't wait to see how great I feel in a week. I just wanted to share this bc I have never had something work so quickly, effectively and made such a difference In such a short time. I was also struck by how compassionate the pharmacist was when I was explained the pain I was in and that he cared enough to speak to me and offer me a solution. This is a long overdue update to my previous review of Medsavers--before I'd done business with them. I've had two occasions since March to fill prescriptions here for a family member. In each case, Chris has been able to save big-time bucks for this person who has no prescription drug coverage. The fill times have been much shorter than at HEB and about on par with my local CVS--which is to say fast (15-30 minutes). The prices are incredible, and the customer service can't be beat. It's the same McKesson truck that drops off medications to MedSavers as drops off medications to CVS and HEB. And, you don't have to worry that questionable cut-rate generics are being substituted as is the case with some of the majors. Five stars without even thinking about it! read more

Once again the staff at Med Savers were attentive and very professional during this winter storm. I would advise anyone looking for a great affordable place to fill prescriptions and to shop for some health care products to go to Med Savers. I am so grateful to the wonderful staff that it's hard to describe how much they have helped me and also been patient with me when I've been less than patient when it came to working with my doctors. In a pinch they have helped me to fill up a scription when no other pharmacy in town would oblige. Call my doctor and his office could not return calls or emails Chris took the time to call all of his customers back from his home and reassured us that he would be back in as soon as possible and would return phone calls if it was an emergency. I'm a pretty snarky person, as a rule, but this calls for sincerity, friends. If it weren't for MedSavers, I wouldn't be getting some very necessary medical help right now because I wouldn't be able to afford it. As for details, I love that I can call ahead to have my prescription refilled, and by the time I drive there I don't even have to wait five minutes for my prescriptions. Chris Johnson is a blessing to Austin, Texas. Thanks to his generosity and caring of the human race, he's helped thousands of us uninsured folks to maintain our health levels when some of us thought we'd never be able to afford the best care. He's helped me save a ton of money, pain, and frustration by being accommodating and informative. I remember one prescription I had in particular that would have cost me over $100 a month the way my doctor had prescribed it (one pill a day) but Mr. Johnson was able to gain approval from my doctor to break it up in to a series of three pills a day (of the same prescription) and I only ended up paying about $30 a month. I never would have known I had an option like that if Mr. Johnson hadn't taken the time and effort to help me. Even if you yourself are not a current pill filler here, how can you not give them 5 stars for simply trying to offer an alternative to save people money? There really needs to be more people like Chris Johnson in the world. read more

I have yet to have my insured prescriptions sent to Medsavers, but the price of uninsured birth control made me a happy customer. On another note, I have taken a coworker by to pick up medications and the staff has always been friendly and super accommodating to all situations. But at least they had it. That was all we needed to know as we came in today to drop it off. The lady who helped us was as sweet as pie. We waited for a brief minute for them to get the medication ready, then before we knew it, we checked out and were on our way home. See, CVS/Walgreens, it isn't that hard to stay awake and be friendly to your customers while offering to help resolve the shortage issue the best way you can. I cannot remember when we first started going here. My SO is self employed and was told these guys were helpful. Let me tell you - this is what a pharmacy should be... full of people who know your name, offer you detailed answers to concerns and questions about your meds, besides being caring and thoughtful people. We love Chris (and Arturo and Mandy and...) we honestly feel like we are part of their family as well. We both have insurance that would make prescriptions cheaper but we won't go anywhere else. They don't accept insurance, sell only generics unless you need something else (and they often suggest you go to a regular pharmacy and use your insurance if you have it to get lower prices). This truly is as good as it gets. We love you guys! read more

This place is awesome. The staff is always super friendly, knowledgeable and quick to fill your prescriptions. And boy are they cheap! That's good for someone who is living paycheck to paycheck and needs all the money they can get. I don't know about their prices on non-generic drugs, I can only imagine it's high, since the drug companies like to jack those prices to the sky if they can. But on generics, I have yet to find anyone who is cheaper for my medication and besides, I really love to support local businesses, especially ones where the owner is hard at work at said business and you can ask him any question you may have about your medications. read more

Perhaps because it's a relatively new method of b.c. and there are no generic substitutes yet. I have filled prescriptions here a couple of times. Very fast, clean and efficient. The folks behind the counter are friendly, knowledgeable, and won't hesitate to spend a half hour talking to you about how best to use the medication that they are prescribing. There is just one catch - they don't seem to take insurance of any kind. This is actually OK, because they stock some of the rarer medications out there. So you can definitely use them, just be aware that you will have to fill out your own claim forms. read more

If you're not familiar with independent pharmacies and the way they work, you owe it to yourself to learn. They don't accept insurance. This makes them an obvious resource for people without insurance, but even if you have gold-level health insurance, as I do, they can offer life-altering benefits. I'm currently taking three meds that my Blue Cross Blue Shield gold plan won't pay for - either wouldn't approve them or yanked the approval at some point. I'm able to get those meds at affordable prices thanks to independent pharmacies. It's a dirty little secret, but Walgreens, CVS, and any pharmacy that accepts insurance is bound by contracts to charge you a price dictated by the insurance providers when you pay out-of-pocket. And yes, it's an inflated price. In my experience with Walgreens and CVS, I'll go to pick up a new Rx only to be informed that the med isn't covered by my insurance, and the pharmacy has made the assumption, on my behalf, that I'm just not going to receive this medication, period. I have to ask what it would cost out-of-pocket, and only then do they take several minutes to look it up and give me a forbidding price. I don't blame this on lazy pharmacy techs, but on corporate policies that are largely invisible, hiding in plain sight. If I had simply agreed to pay out-of-pocket for my three uncovered meds, I'd be spending over $1k each month at Walgreens or CVS. I don't know about you, but I really don't have an extra $1k in my monthly budget that's just going to waste. I cannot know for sure how crucial these three meds are to my health and wellbeing, but I do know I'm not not going without them, though random corporate policies would deny me the opportunity to pay a fair price for them. At least one of my three uncovered meds has an alternative that insurance would pay for, but it has bothersome side effects for me. Having a way to affordably access the better med represents a very palpable improvement in my quality of life. So far this has been a five-star review for the mere existence of independent pharmacies. MedSavers earns a full five stars in its own right. Chris, the owner, is also the lead pharmacist - he is hands-on and obviously passionate about fulfilling the niche an independent pharmacy can offer. He's apt to come to the counter to discuss options with you and give you a real consultation. Contrast that to the way things work at Walgreens and CVS, where your interaction with a pharmacist is usually limited to a brief, awkward exchange of words that are legally required when you have a new Rx. Prescriptions are filled fast. They're passionate about finding you an affordable option. On more than one occasion they've offered to contact a doctor to seek approval for an alternate formulation for a med. I've yet to have a doctor decline to approve the alternative, and never has the alternative suggestion been for some herbal or homeopathic remedy. Count me as an evangelist for independent pharmacies, and count me as an evangelist for MedSavers as one of the best-of-the-best. read more

Being a HAAM patient I was pretty much stuck getting prescriptions filled at the ghetto HEB on 7th & Pleasant Valley. Waiting in long lines for hours with psychos and hobos only to be told by a minimum wage jerk with an attitude problem that your meds aren't ready or aren't covered anymore is pretty much the norm. I was referred to Chris and Med-Savers and I couldn't be happier. Everyone there is friendly and knowledgable. They even remember me by name and ask how I'm doing. One time I was out of town and missed getting a refill and they called to check on me! Chris is there to answer any questions without attitude and always makes time to say hello. It's obvious that they care about their customers and we're not just a commodity or just another thing to get in the way of quitting time. The prices are usually way cheaper than big box pharmacies (at least for my meds) HEB, CVS, and Walgreens were trying to get $300/mth for one of my scripts. Med-Savers came in at $60/mth for the SAME stuff. Even though I can sometimes get prescriptions for $5 through HAAM at HEB, I will actually pay MORE to go to Med-Savers because they are so awesome to deal with. And they're local. My money is going to a real Austin person not some faceless greed-monger corporation. Anyway, Med-Savers is the place to go. They will save you money and time and more importantly they will make a trip to the pharmacy a pleasant experience. I always look forward to going there to pick up my meds. Needed to transfer an expensive RX from Fort Worth to Austin, they handled ALL of this by email after I sent an email asking at midnight. By 10am they had answered and were assisting me in a refreshing kind way. I know I will be coming here for as long as I live in Austin!! Walgreen's, CVS, Walmart just cant compare.
