We came upon Lokal 83 and were seated at a large table toward the back of this pleasant restaurant. We ordered a family-style meal, sampling many of their dishes. PICK THREE - $27 * Eggplant Salad, Tzatziki, Ajvar ARUGULA & PEAR SALAD - $17 Fresh arugula with thinly sliced pear, walnuts, blue cheese, dried cranberries, olive oil, and honey vinaigrette. AVOCADO & TOMATO SALAD - $17 Fresh tomato, cucumber, red onion, avocado, corn, fresh parsley, tossed with olive oil and lemon juice. BEETROOT & FETA CHEESE SALAD - $16 Beets, feta cheese, parsley, lemon vinaigrette, golden raisins, and walnuts. MIXED OLIVES - $12 Mediterranean olives mixed with lemon juice, garlic, oregano, chili flakes, and olive oil. CHEESE PASTRIES - $13 Fried, cigar-shaped crispy pastries stuffed with feta cheese and dill. ZUCCHINI PANCAKES - $17 Pan-fried zucchini pancakes served with garlic yogurt sauce. STUFFED GRAPE LEAVES - $14 Grape leaves stuffed with rice, pine nuts, currants, and herbs. I sampled most of the dishes and thought all of the salads were very good, although the pear slices in the Arugula & Pear Salad could have been riper. The Eggplant Salad was really more of a dip than a salad, but it had excellent flavor. The Cheese Pastries were crispy, hot and tasty. The Zucchini Pancakes were bland and would have been better with a more generous serving of the garlic yogurt sauce. Service was good for the most part, though a little spotty at times, especially when it came time to get the check. Overall, this was a solid four-star dining experience. We'd be happy to return.

Ambiance/Atmosphere Came here for brunch with a friend on…read morethe Upper West Side, and the space set the tone right away. Warm, cozy, and inviting, with a relaxed vibe that made it easy to settle in and linger over the meal. Appetizers We started with a cheese flatbread, boat-shaped and blistered at the edges, the interior molten and gooey with a bright basil leaf on top. Simple but done really well, crisp crust giving way to all that warm cheese. Mains The brunch dishes were the highlight. A sizzling skillet of eggs cooked over spiced sausage came out rich and savory, the yolks just set, perfect for scooping up with the basket of warm bread on the side. The tomato-based baked eggs were equally good, a deep, well-seasoned sauce with a little heat and fresh herbs on top. Comforting, generous, and full of flavor. Drinks The blackberry mocktail was a standout, refreshing and beautifully garnished with a cluster of fresh blackberries. Always great to see a thoughtful non-alcoholic option that feels like more than an afterthought. Service Attentive and warm throughout. The team kept everything moving smoothly without ever feeling rushed. Verdict Five stars. Delicious food, a cozy atmosphere, and a mocktail worth ordering on its own. A fantastic UWS brunch spot that I'd happily return to.

I love their branzino though I wish the potatoes that came with it were more flavorful and crispier. The muhammura is epic. After coming here twice I had to recreate it at home and it's my new favorite dip. I even made labneh to go with it. Leyla has inspired my cooking at home! I make my friends and family muhammura now, and I can't get enough of Turkish cuisine. Cant wait to come back and try more of their dishes!

After much Yelp research, I picked out Miriam as a weekend brunch destination for someone visiting…read morefrom out-of-town. Also plusses in Miriam's favor were the fact that I could easily make a reservation (they use SevenRooms) and its proximity to the Museum of Natural History. Many of the menu items looked appealing. Two of us ordered the latkes Benedict ($27) which I loved. Instead of Canadian bacon, you're served smoked salmon. And swap out the regular hollandaise for a harissa version. There was also za'atar labneh and a chopped salad with cucumbers and tomatoes on the side, also delectable. The third person ordered the traditional shakshuka ($24) which also earned acclaim. I have to give a thumbs up to the hummus. The hostess was peppy and welcoming. Our server was more scarce towards the end of the meal for some reason, but she was nice, and the busboy seemed cool. While there's outside seating too, it was a zillion degrees so the air conditioned and classy dining room was the right choice for us.

This was not my ideal outcome, as the interior was beautiful, elegant, and cooler temperature wise. Initially, I was planning to order the Lamb Shawarma Terracotta dish, but saw that the restaurant was partaking in Restaurant Week, offering a 3 course meal for $45. For the first course, I decided to go with the choice 3 vegetable appetizers, even though I really wanted bread. I selected Potato Salad, Moroccan Carrot, and Roasted Red Beet. The Potato Salad contained horseradish and pickle. This was quite tasty. Moroccan Carrot was cooked perfectly in flavorful spices. Roasted Red Beet was tender and juicy, with a bit of sweetness from the pomegranate. For the main course, I ordered the NY Strip Steak (came on a skewer) with a side of Majadra Rice. This also came with cucumber tomato salad, but I would've preferred the addition of Pita or Za'atar Laffa instead. The Steak was nicely charred, succulent, and well seasoned. I also enjoyed the Majadra Rice, which was full of lentils and crispy onions with a lovely blend of cumin, coriander, and allspice. I also got to try the Za'atar Fries and these were oh so mouthwatering, delightfully crispy, full of bold flavor. The Fries were truly addicting! The dessert I had was the Kanafe Custard Cups with raspberry, and served warm. This was delectable, lightly sweet, fragrant, and just the right blend of delicate kanafe and velvety smooth custard. Service was pretty good. Our waitress was welcoming and knew the menu well. Prices were decent. I would return to try the Lamb Shawarma Terracotta or Salmon and some of the bread with Labneh Tzatziki.

Definitely a good date-night spot or somewhere to take out-of-towners when you want to impress. They have a balanced menu of large and small dishes. I ordered the halloumi and cauliflower, and while it was tasty, I was a little disappointed by the portion for $22 It was mostly cauliflower with barely any halloumi, so I didn't think the price quite matched what was served. I also offer a side of pita, not realizing most of the small plates come with pita. Since I was still hungry after the cauliflower, I also ordered the gambas al ajillo, which were delicious. I didn't try the larger dishes this time but the person I was dining with ordered the steak kebab and really enjoyed it. I also love that they have an all-night breakfast section on the menu. There's truly no wrong time for shakshuka. Next time, I'd love to try one of their sandwiches or pitas. Service was also great in a very understated way. They're attentive and present without hovering, which I really appreciated in a space that feels designed for conversation and privacy. Overall, a really cool atmosphere with an interesting menu and plenty I'd like to come back and try.
