I don't know why this restaurant is so poorly rated. Ambiance is really nice inside. Everything is delicious and not overly salty. Calamari appetizer was great, the red tomato sauce is the bomb - tangy and refreshing. Highly recommend the braised short rib ravioli and the panna cotta. When I went to this restaurant in 2009, I had a less than fair experience. I did not leave any reviews at that time because I chalked it up to a one time thing now 15 years later I had the same experience at this restaurant. I feel the need to share this experience with Anyone that decides to go here. We entered the restaurant approximately 6: 30pm, we ordered appetizers. One of the appetizers was extremely overly salted and I sent it back. At the same time I sent it back,I order an entree. By 8:10. I considered myself excluded from allowed from being allowed to eat dinner. The entrée did not arrive. I was told that the Kitchen was busy from the wait staff. Which to me was definitely the signal that I should be leaving which I did. I would consider Burger King and McDonald's before I ever go back to this restaurant. The clientele is elderly. The atmosphere is 1980s. So I guess that is their bread and butter. But certainly not mine. I would definitely recommend a trip over the bridge to Manhattan where you could be served like a human being and eat palatable food. read more

Villa Amalfi is a fantastic choice for an Italian restaraunt. We come here for special occasions and are never disappointed! The food, service and atmosphere here is spectacular. Starting with the food - the burrata, French onion soup and calamari are great choices for the first course. The appetizers are filling and well prepared. For the main course I had the pork chop. I thought it was pretty good but could be better. However, my mom had the salmon and she loved the taste and how it was served. My son had the La Marechiara and he thought it was one of the best restaraunt meals you can have! For the deserts, the cakes and crème Brule were very good and are worth saving room for. The service was 5/5 and the waiter was very friendly and acted in a professional manner Finally, I liked the soft piano music in the background! 5/5 experience! read more

I had the crab cocktail, followed by chicken parm and finger shed with Italian cheese cake and my meal was amazing. You start with valet parking "no charge" and then are greeted by Nick the owner and escorted to a table in their beautiful spacious dining room. The service is friendly, professional, fast and the server staff are all well dressed. A first class operation in all aspects. From the minute you pull up till you leave with your take home left overs " which will not be much " from their more than filling portions you will be very comfortable, well fed and nicely treated. My favorite old-time traditional Italian place... Living close by, I have been worried about how they were doing (they were def. closed for a while) but on a recent anniversary dinner visit, I was very glad to see them up and running again. They had converted the entrance area into an insulated (w/ plastic covers) outdoor seating area, complete w/ space heaters. It was a Saturday night and the place was completely packed socially-distanced-style. Staff all wore masks and were courteous in asking us if we wanted to sit out or in. We chose indoors as their dining room was always set up very spaciously. We started off with a glass of wine, burrata w/ grilled zucchini and roasted peppers which got our palate revving. Wife ordered Shrimp scampi over Risotto and I got their Short rib Tagliatelle. While her shrimp was delicious with chewy bits of crab meat and creamy risotto, it was my fall-off-the-fork-tender short rib that really stole the show. The meat was so succulent and perfect in that marsala-esq sauce against the al dente tagliatelle that while it is a heavy fare, I couldn't stop. They are old-style Italian, not American, so portion was also perfecto. I really, really enjoyed this pasta.. so much so that I decided that I'd try making it myself. Dining room was perfectly dim and the vibe was great with individual tables conversing over fine wine and food - the way a dinner should be! Not rushed, enjoying the food, company, and the vibe. Villa Amalfi has always understood that. We put the icing on the cake with a bite of tiramisu and chocolate mousse and put another great dinner @ Villa Amalfi on the books. Intimate, romantic Italian restaurant in town. It's classy and very traditional style. I like the banquet hall setting with the piano in the middle. They have a full bar as well. It's definitely not a casual environment, but nice for special occasions, a date, or group dinners. The food was good but I think the ambience and service was what made the experience better. I was here for a friend's birthday celebration with a group of 6. The servers were very friendly and attentive. Appetizers: burrata, calamari, beef Carpaccio. The beef Carpaccio was hands down the best! Main entrees: short rib parpadelle (good but the pasta was lacking flavor. The meat was tender, fall off the bone but I won't be ordering this dish again. Nothing out of the ordinary. My friend's ordered the branzino, short rib ravioli (special of the night) and the shrimp scampi. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The dirty martini here is very dirty. If you like olive juice, order it. Other than that, they have a wide selection of wines that you can ask about. They offer taste tests. At the end, the highlight was when our server brought out a huge tray of their house made desserts. We chose the fig Tart and Pana Cotta, both delicious. I'd come back here to try out other dishes. This place is not only past its prime, it has reached the point where right mortis is setting in. Routinely overbooked because of slow service, patrons are greeted with long line and wait times while many of the tables sit vacant. While the wait staff is seasoned and professional, they routinely make mistakes (once again, past one's prime), forget to put orders in, cannot pronounce the daily specials or take EXCESSIVELY LONG to serve. You'd be best served to bring a snack from the local Burger King to tide you over between courses. Meal service occurs at a glacial place, with many of the hot foods coming out either lukewarm or cold. Size inflation is definitely kicking in here as the portion sizes are being reduced in lock-step with price increases. Routinely on holidays, they run out of garnishes such as hot zeppole or chocolate covered strawberries. Instead of substitutions, you may get a half (probably recycled from another disgruntled patrons plate) or a half hearted apology from the owner. After 40+ years in business, one would think they would be better at estimating needs. All in all, food quality has slipped a bit, but it is eclipsed by the dramatic fall in service, wait times and ambiance. Not only have they 'gone down hill'...they rolled into the highway, been run over by a tractor trailer and scraped off the tire before being cast into the dust bin. Had such a great experience here recently. I came mid week (during covid) with my family and was able to make reservations. The place was very full for a Wednesday night. Outdoor dining situation was good, it's basically the front of the place. The tables are at a pleasant distance from each other. The staff was very attentive but I must say we waited a pretty long time for our food to arrive (about 45 minutes) , which was the only unpleasant part. We got the burrata (I would not recommend it), the got the meatball appetizer (highly recommended, best I ever had), the grilled octopus (amazing) and q special they had that day - figs with prosciutto and goat cheese (best dish of the night) For mains we got the veal (would not recommend), the seafood pasta (good) and the short rib pasta - best dish, very highly recommend. For dessert we got the cannoli which was very good and the apple pie which was okay. To sum up - go here, very delicious and I enjoyed the music and atmosphere. I attended an event at Villa Amalfi a week ago. My wife, son, and I are all vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian over 30 years. I have NEVER had a problem ordering a vegetarian replacement dinner, even when travelling internationally, until this event. The appetizers were all meat with the exception of the salad. When it was time to order the entree we were given the choice of steak, chicken, or salmon. Originally the woman taking out order stated that there was risotto. However, she returned and stated that wasn't true. She asked if I wanted to order a la carte. I asked what they had and she just listed meat items. I said that's the same as what I didn't order originally. She then offered some steamed vegetables. I passed but my wife went with that. What she received covered 1/4 of the plate. It was truly pathetic. We will never frequent this restaurant again. read more

Exceptional food. We had the bass cooked in paper ... amazing! The fall off the bone pulled pork also was incredible. Service was wonderful, kudos to Igor. The wines are quite good and the pours are generous. Be careful of the bread, can fill up to fast. The only possible criticism is that the portions seem small for the price ... The Villa Amalfi has a long history. It's changed locations in Cliffside Park. It's hosted many special dinners, dates, celebrations, and it offers banquet services. All in all it does classical Italian dining right. One of the last few elegant Italian places where the waiters still wear tuxedos and know the menu by heart. Where they sometimes have live piano music. Where the chefs keep churning out fantastic versions of all the classics. A fantastic wine list too. I'm so glad the family has kept it alive all these years. Great service at the bar or in the dining room. Your in good hands dining here. Prices are fair for the quality you are getting. Somewhat expensive, but not "steakhouse prices". Some notable items off the menu, that I hope you will try : APPS --Polpa di Granchio Fredda--Colossal crabmeat, served with fresh avocado & a spicy cocktail sauce. --Frutti di Mare in Bianco--Shrimp, lobster tail, scallops, P.E.I. While passing through New Jersey I came across this old fashioned restaurant. The photos look great and service is decent but upon arrival, there is no place to park so you have no choice but to use their valet service if someone's outside.. Next walking into the restaurant I was impressed, everything is very clean and there's a nice quiet older crowd but no host to greet us for a few minutes. After being escorted to our table everything is looking good, people are happy drinks and apps are in. Took a while to get the apps but they were delicious, we ordered panna water but hey maybe they ran out so they just brought Evian to the table, no big deal it's water. We didn't see the waiter for a while, shortly later the entrees came out and I thought it was a mistake but looked like my order and all looked okay-just without the correct pasta I ordered, so I asked the waiter"where's the black squid ink pasta " he looks at me .. confused .. and says" oh we ran out of that about a week ago.. lol. What a joke. This is something I should have been told upon placing my order not after the food was already cooked and served. Honestly I would have ordered something else! Ok so I paid extra for the squid ink but I got linguini fini. I love my pasta so ate it all, the sauce was good but let's get to the interesting part, the seafood just wasn't up to par, baby lobster tail was just old and should have never been served, it would t even come out of the shell.. scallop was good"undercooked but edible (1scallop) the two clams in this dish were over cooked and the clam wasn't in tact so wasn't a chance I was eating them, I brought this to a different waiters attention when asked how dinner was & he said that he'll let the staff know.. NOTHING was done. Hey offered us an ice cream dessert. NO THANKS. I want my seafood dish with squid ink pasta, no frozen seafood thawed out... fresh seafood. No staff were around after we mentioned this food was not prepared properly ZERO resolve. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant if you want quality food or a professional staff. should be safe with only appetizers but hey there are plenty other restaurants to try around the town. During the COVID disaster Villa Amalfi has been amazing. Been going for years for quite old style service with good food. But now their outdoor dining is our regular destination. Absolutely secure and excellent. Jimmy ex river palm is so professional and makes sure that the dining experience is as normal as possible. Last night I had the lemon chicken with cavatelli was superb and delicious. Wife had the grilled salmon just as excellent. Friend had chicken melanese also terrific. His wife had the salmon . 4 out of four very good. We all started with the endive salad. The place was full of life and a group of Croatian ladies celebrating a birthday were very lively. What a fun enjoyable night. This is our best place to go for great atmosphere and very good food. Great value. read more

I couldn't wait to get home and write my review of Villa Amalfi. I've eaten there many times in the past but tonight's experience was extraordinary. It's a Tuesday night so they weren't very busy but they should be. I don't think you can go to a finer restaurant with better ambience and food anywhere in the area at this price. I started off with a special appetizer, mushroom stuffed with crabmeat and they really were stuffed with crabmeat. Main dish was a very meaty delicious short rib with fresh pasta. The pasta itself soaked up the sauce and had a bite and feel very different from ordinary dry pasta. Their brand is from a bakery in Patterson that is not available retail and I just ate piece after piece because of its wonderful taste and crunchy crust. There is quite a broad selection of desserts and the apple pie I chose hit the spot. I recommend this restaurant without qualification read more

The restaurant is beginning to take advantage of people. I know prices have gone up, but this is ridiculous. If things do not change, I will not be returning. We were invited to a repast here following the funeral of a friend's mom. Situated on a busy main road, it may not look like much but this place is a gem for your event! Let me start with the wait staff. They were exceptional! Our table's server was so concerned with our comfort and enjoyment! He fixed my coat on the back of my chair and refolded napkins when a guest was away from his or her spot. Plates were whisked away when finished , water and wine glasses continually refilled. I can't say enough about the stellar service! But wait! That's not the best part! The food was exquisite! Every bite was remarkable! We were served individual antipasto plates with a shrimp, a stuffed clam, a stuffed mushroom, mini eggplant rollatini, and the most delicious crispy cheese/ prosciutto fritter! Then came the calamari which was light and crispy and served with a wonderful sauce, followed by a perfect salad with delicate mixed greens topped with sliced apples and goat cheese, followed by our main plates. We had the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly and was melt-in-your-mouth fabulous! There was a bearnaise sauce to accompany it, a garlicky broccoli rabe, and crispy potato wedges. All this ended with a chunk of tiramisu sitting a top a sauce with cut strawberries. It was a beautiful room, light and bright with lovely furnishings and a long wooden bar. Had dinner here last night. The service was sub par. Getting refills and drink reorders did not happen. Had to ask for everything and nothing was filled by our waiter. Others stepped in to help. Don't order grilled veal chops; they were terrible, hard to cut and undercooked. A steak ordered medium was almost blue. Dinner took four hours not by choice. My friend had his rehearsal dinner here and it was pretty great. There's a private room upstairs where we had one server take care of us all night and he was stellar. We had 3 dinner options: branzino in white wine sauce, seafood linguine, and the filet mignon. The branzino was my least favorite and then the filet mignon. They were both a little too bland for me but the seafood linguine was amazing. Great amount of seafood with perfectly cooked al dente linguine. This was definitely a true find during the virus. This is the only restaurant that we have or will go to during the virus. The food is amazing, they always have new specials daily. The wait staff is also amazing, helpful and pleasant. If you don't see something on the menu, they will be happy to accommodate. Although they serve inside, we prefer outdoors, which is surrounded with a 3 sided clear plastic covering with cross ventilation at open doors covered with plastic louvers. Even if the weather drops below 40, they have many heaters around tables which makes it very comfortable, in fact sometimes I ask them to remove one. Tables are spaced at least 8/10 feet away from each other. My wife orders shrimp cocktail which are amazingly huge & lobster tail which is extremely tasteful. The other night I ordered pasta fagolle soup and asked for the removal of Kidney beans which they did. It was hot & amazing. I also ordered sea bass wrapped in parchment paper, it was served in a broth with olives, tomatoes & capers with a side vegetable . I ordered sliced carrots, which was sweet and delicious. read more

I cannot recommend Villa Amalfi enough. My wedding reception was cancelled due to the pandemic and I was looking for a last minute reservations to accommodate a small dinner with immediate family. I contacted Villa Amalfi Thursday night and Mike responded promptly and was able to not only host our wedding but went above and beyond and made the day so special. The food and service was absolutely amazing and my family loved everything about the atmosphere. They also had tents which was great considering the mid dinner downpour. I can't wait to celebrate anniversary dinners here!! read more

Ive been here 3 different times, every time ive had amazing service. Everyone was professional, food came out in a timely fashion and i felt comofrtable here. Some of my favorites are the penne vodka, the sauce is delicious and its deff a go too. Any of their dishes with shrimp i love too--mainly because the shrimp is fresh and large, they are not skimp on that. I am not a fan of their calamari, it tended to be dry and over cooked. If youre looking for a great app to share get the " Mile Foglie di Melanzane". eggplant is cooked perfectly, the gravy is tasty and hits the spot. another go to dish, that you can even share is "Cappellini con Polpa di Granchio". The flavor is out of this world, and theres enough crab meat in it. Next time i will NOT share this one. I was not happy with the valet parking, i had a small altercation with one of the valet parkers, i hope that it can be resvolved, i dont think valet should be mandatory--which is what was being forced down my throat when i came here. read more

3.5 stars. Came here for Easter lunch, and it was just fine. Started off with one of the specials on the menu: burrata with prosciutto, fresh figs, and EVOO. It was good! I wish there was some balsamic to really tie the dish together, though. For my main, I had the linguine alla vongole with white sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the clams weren't too fishy tasting. I just wish I was offered some freshly grated parmesan or freshly cracked black pepper, which I think would accompany the dish perfectly. For dessert, I had the cheesecake, which I wasn't crazy about. It wasn't the best or worse I've had; it was just fine. I really liked the chocolate covered strawberry on the side, though! Decor is a little dated- very Italian New Jersey feel. The service was average. However, the host wasn't great. We walked in, gave the host our last name and told them we were meeting the rest of our party, which was already seated. He first had trouble finding our name, and then once he did, said they weren't here yet. We said they were, but he insisted they weren't and wasn't much help. Once we called the rest of our party and they confirmed they were sitting down inside the restaurant, we were brought to our table. Bizarre. read more
