On a very very short list of regular favorite restaurants. I probably eat here, or do takeout orders, once every week. Service is great, vibe is relaxed, food is consistently good. Favorites? Pizza (anchovies, pepperoni, or mushroom), grilled chicken salad, sausage and peppers, and chicken parm. Yum! Also love the broccoli rabe, broccoli, and roasted potatoes as side dishes. Had a baby shower 2 weeks ago and it was awesome! *Rafi the man who set everything up is a JOY to work with. The workers are some of the most friendly and caring people and really go above and beyond to make sure you are enjoying yourself. They also have 2 large party floors which I have been to many times for family parties and community events. read more

My daughter has been in severe pain since last night and missed school today. This restaurant is completely unaware of how dangerous food allergies and intolerances are. Went to a girlfriends birthday party here, we had the private back room. The staff was amazing, the food was pretty good. We had pizza, salad and anti-pasta for appetizers, not bad to be honest. It was more Americanized rather then Italian (in my opinion). For dinner we had a buffet style of chicken parmigiana, chicken franchise, sausage and peppers, rice, potatoes, broccoli and a couple other options. There was more then enough food for everyone. I went to Cafe Tivoli for a 50th birthday party and was pleasantly surprised. Usually the food suffers greatly at events where many people have to get served but every dish I was served was good. They started off with a charcuterie plate, pretty normal and average; not great not bad. Then a simple salad afterwards. Penne vodka came after that and it was very good. Clearly they know how to make this classic a dish, delicious sauce and well cooked pasta (they could have easily overcooked the penne when making it in big quantities). I ordered the shrimp scampi out of a few choices we were offered. Although I thought shrimp scampi came over linguine, they served it on its own with potatoes and string beans on the side. Despite this, it was cooked very well and the garlic sauce on the shrimp was very good. After that they finished off serving everyone ice cream goblets, simple but who can complain about ice cream! Overall a great experience. I will definitely give care Tivoli a try again! read more

This restaurant Deserves no stars! The owner is so greedy and not understanding at all! Due to the spike of Covid cases we had to cancel the event we had planned! He refused to give the deposit! We asked if it can be consumed at the restaurant since we can't get it back and he said no. So either way it's a win win situation for him. Half of the guests have Covid, what was we going to do still have the party?! He should be understanding of what's happening I get it every restaurant is trying to recover from the hit they have gotten but people like him make you not want to do business in the future! A quaint little place. The service was very good and the staff was very nice. It wasn't the best Italian restaurant. I am not sure why the Veal Marsala or the Chicken Parmigiana were served with chunks of potatoes. I was there for a special, private event, so maybe they serve different food or mix and match food when it is a private affair. The pasta sauce is very good and their bread was very good. The appetizers were good but the main dishes were lacking in taste. We ordered the Chicken Francese over angel hair. The pasta was swimming in water. I had to pour it into another dish. The shrimp stuffed with crabmeat had a weird taste and the chicken parm over angel hair had a sour taste. My husband thought the pasta tasted tangy. We were very disappointed. Today I went to pick up my catering order for $400.00 for my company holiday luncheon. I ask the manager for takeout tins for my leftovers he says sure $20 . I say, What? He proceeds to tell me that since covid hit the owner has lost money. I said I understand as we all have suffered and thats why I stayed local to support local small business. He proceeded to say that this is the owners way to recoup a part of his losses. I ask if he is serious and he says yes. I was so upset at this I felt like walking out without my food but I had 9 people waiting for lunch so I sucked it up and took my food. Needless to say I left the $2.00 worth of aluminum tins there and WILL NEVER GO BACK. Not too smart. I wonder if I have to pay for a take out tin. Shame on the owner and his policy. I hosted a bridal shower for myself here in the backroom recently. Food is good and staff is friendly however staff took it upon themselves to put all the men's meals on my tab (the guys waiting for their wives in a different part of the restaurant). This resulted in my bill being $600 more than discussed. Prices were already increased since my contract, due to covid which I was understanding about but to then on top of the increased prices take it upon yourself to put the uninvited men's meals on my tab? Due to that I will not host events here moving forward. I will gladly attend someone else's bec like I said the food is good but I'm not dealing with their billing system again that's for sure. read more

Great service and nice ambience. Went with a big party and all the servers were attentive and friendly. All the appetizers we got were pretty good; the hot antipasto especially. Most people were very pleased with their meals. A couple people ordered veal dishes and said they were not the best. But hey, you can please everyone. I've been to Cafe Tivoli a few times. The family loves to have events here, so when I make a trip to NJ, it very often involves a banquet at Cafe Tivoli. I usually walk away thinking that the food was OK, but not the best Italian food that I have ever had. However, upon my last visit, I had something that I have not had there before, and it was fantastic. It was the Tortellini alla Vodka! Tortellini alla Vodka - I'm not sure if this is a typical menu item, or something special that they whipped up. I gotta say that it was great. At first, one would think that it is heavy, but for some reason it wasn't too heavy and I just couldn't get enough of it. Sausage and Peppers - this is a staple for italian food in New Jersey, and they make it good here at Cafe Tivoli! Pizza - I actually enjoy the pizza a lot. It is very thin, but has good flavor, and I can just keep eating it. Salad - A special shout out for my cousin, Dina on the salad. Her exact words are "I love the salad at most places, but theirs is the best!" I will say that their salad is quite good, but it is also just salad. Rabbits eat salad - Patrick doesn't eat salad. The other food was also good, but these listed above were my favorites. I have never had a regular dinner at Cafe Tivoli, but it is a good banquet place, and probably worth a try. Perfect choice for my aunt's 50th birthday!! We did a ton of searching for an affordable party room/menu for her big day and ended up going with cafe Tivoli. So happy we did! We had about 30 people and they gave us the side room, very close to the regular dining area. There was enough space for us to walk around & mingle with everyone and take photos, which was great. I believe they charged around $40pp. This included passing apps, starter pasta & salad, entrees and unlimited wine & beer. They provided calamari (very good!), meat & cheese plates, warm bread, delicious penne vodka to start!, a salad, and an entree choice (meat & fish options). SUCH a good deal. They were clearly a bit understaffed, but still managed to do an amazing job at refilling bread & making sure there was always a new bottle of wine on the table. They allowed us to bring our cake, and even let my musician cousin bring in her guitar & play a few songs. I honestly felt bad for the regular diners... we must've been very distributing. Worked in our favor though ;) For an affordable, party I 100% recommend this place!! And will definitely keep it at the top of the list if I plan one again. read more

Celebrating office X'mas party, 20 persons. Assigned just one waiter to the group. This is intended for management only. Never ask us if we wanted something to drink, had to request for the wine list. Ordered appetizers, arrive 30 minutes later. Placed dinner orders, it took a decent amount of time for the food to be serve at the table but this is where everything just went sour. All the plates were serve but one, when the person asked where was his veal, they ran to the kitchen and returned with a chicken, and told the person they have run out of veal, the person stated he didn't like chicken what other options he had. They said he could order a steak which he did but then came back and told him the kitchen was closed. I approached the manager and explained the situation, why when the kitchen received the order for veal failed to inform the client they had run out of veal. They waited until all the food was serve ? My chicken parmigiana came with linguine which never arrived same thing happen to other persons, they never got their side dish. I would never come back to this restaurant . . .very un-professional staff, special the manager whom never came to the table. It's a good italian restaurant. The veggies are way overcooked and saturated with garlic. The pasta pomodoro was really good and portion size was awesome but the sauce was very salty. The steak look great, it was huge as well. The chicken francesze was a plate of chicken and looked very sad. Had the chocolate lava cake and it was goooooood! This was one of the WORST dining experiences I have ever had. Here's why: Returned my first entree - the pasta was MUSHY!! The waiter told me that I should have ordered it al dented but over cooked pasta seems to be the default here. Ordered a meatball sandwich. Thought it was safe. It was not. The sauce was the same ketchup on my pasta and the meatballs were hard and tasteless. And the bread was stale!! I will never return here. The worst. All regulars here and I have no idea why. I've been coming here for years for work parties and I've never had a bad experience until last night. The food was still good however the service was aggressively bad. Our server didn't acknowledge us for almost 20 minutes and when he finally did take our order he was outright rude and walking away in the middle of us ordering. I then waited another half hour for any one at all to look at us so that I could ask for a fork to eat my salad. By the time I got a fork from an extremely rude busboy, our entrees were dropped off without a word by someone else. Our server never stopped by to ask how our food was, offer us new drinks, or even give us water. As a former server myself I almost never ask for a manager but I made an exception last night. The manager didn't seem to care at all about our experience until I told him where I work, because he realized how much business they get from us. He then took a little bit off the check-which my boyfriend had to outright ask for-but our sever never came over to speak to us or apologize. Overall just atrocious service. read more

I had my wedding reception there and everything was excellent they did exactly what I asked. My family and friends can't stop talking about how delicious the food was. Unfortunately I felt that my party was overshadowed by the performance of the DJ, since when I get there he was drinking alcohol. I took the time to make him a schedule for the night, but he did not follow the schedule, he forget the last name of my husband and he wanted one of the guest make the presentation of us, 3 times he played incorrectly the choreography song I prepared to dance with my husband. We have been here a few times over the last 15 or 20 years and it seems to be worse every time. The service was confused. The food quality was poor and because they have a catering hall upstairs we were treated to the loud thump of the bass guitar resonating through the ceiling above which added to the bad experience we had at the restaurant. I had chicken parmigiana and it was smothered in overly thick but strangely tasteless tomato sauce. Now tomato sauce can be delicate, This stuff was certain not that. It was one of the worst tasting and the least creative tomato sauces I have had in a while. Maybe it came out of a can. I selected spaghetti as my pasta side dish. It was served limp and cold and had the same poor excuse for tomato sauce on it. Nobody in our party will be rushing back to the Tivoli any time soon. It was a waste of time and money. read more
