It was perfect--multiple TVs, long bench-style tables for parties of all sizes, a stage for live music, a small bar area, and outside of it, pickleball courts! To eat, I ordered some "Mozzarella Cheese sticks," a "Brisket Sandwich," and a side of "Mac and Cheese." The cheese sticks came out fresh with cheese melted and dangling with every bite as it should. The brisket in the sandwich was moist and tender and the Mac and cheese was also very flavorful and delicious. I topped it off with some sweet tea. The cherry on top for us was the wonderful customer service--a manager/owner came out and spoke with us, asked where we were from and thanked us for coming by. Great hospitality. We had an amazing experience here and would recommend Massey's to anyone!! Can't wait to come back whenever we're in town.

We really enjoy good BBQ. We were not disappointed! Massey's is located on the highway between Glen Rose and Granbury, adjacent to the golf course. The building is decorated with pages that kids colored. There's an arcade. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The live music takes place in the outdoor seating area. I ordered the Massey Mess with pulled pork. It's a frito pie with delicious BBQ. The serving is massive. My wife had the loaded baked potato with brisket. She couldn't finish hers either. Both dishes were delicious. The meat was tender and full of flavor. All the ingredients were fresh. The service just couldn't be beat, beginning with the owner. Todd Massey himself greeted us as we came in and gave us a warm welcome. He answered all our questions about the menu. How often does THAT happen? The serving staff is sweet, friendly, and attentive. We never had to wait. They brought our food to us and checked on us often. Free refills on drinks. The music venue is very family friendly and roomy. There are fans on the perimeter and ceiling fans to keep everyone comfortable. The lighting was great and the sound of the band was too. There are ample clean bathtrooms. We sat there on a Saturday evening eating delicous BBQ and listening to good music. There were kids playing in the grassy area behind the pavillion. Couples got up and danced to their favorite songs. There was a nice breeze blowing. In the distance you can see the golf course. Folks, it just doesn't get much better than this. I could see it being an issue during the early hours of opening on the weekends, but probably not as much in the evenings. Inside, it has a cozy, almost dive-bar feel, just not dark. LOL. There's a small bar tucked into the back corner, several four-person tables, and a couple of wooden booths along one wall. When you walk in, you order at the counter window. They give you a number for the table, you grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. The staff was friendly and polite, checking on us here and there without hovering. I went with the Texas Trinity Platter: brisket, pork ribs, garlic & pepper sausage, and Mexican street corn for my side. I also ordered a Brisket Tostada. The brisket had a nice smoke ring, decent bark, and that Central Texas, Mex-Tex seasoning profile. What I enjoyed most was the seasoning wasn't too salty or laid on too thick. It added flavor without masking the beef. The pork ribs were moist and close to fall off the bone, but still held together enough to get a good bite. There was plenty of smoke, and again, the seasoning complemented the pork instead of overpowering it. For the sausage, I chose the garlic & pepper. It had a good snap, was juicy inside, and had a light garlic flavor with a little pepper coming through. The texture was a medium grind with a good balance of lean meat and fat. But the surprise for me was the Brisket Tostada. The tostada was crisp and thick enough to support everything piled on top. There's a thin layer of refried beans, thick slices of brisket, a little salsa verde, cotija cheese, and a drizzle of Valentina's. And yes, you can actually pick the thing up and eat it without it falling apart or turning soggy. I'll admit I was eating it a little faster than usual--not because I was worried about it falling apart, but because it was that good. LOL. The salsa verde helped cut through the richness of the brisket and beans, while the Valentina's added a little extra kick without taking over. The Mexican street corn was also well seasoned without being heavy-handed and worked well with all the meats. For a first visit, Hurtado's checked a lot of boxes for me. Awesome barbecue, friendly service, and that Brisket Tostada alone gives me a reason to come back. Since it's not too far from the house, I can see this becoming one of my regular BBQ spots.

We had seen the size of the potato already and chose to split it, had it made with fatty brisket, and of course a 1/4 lb of sausage. We took our order up to the window and met the namesake of the restaurant, but by we did not know it then. The options in that simple dish was great.
