We had sliced brisket sandwiches which were stuffed with delicious brisket, perfect edges and tender. No BBQ sauce needed. First BBQ place that loaded my sandwich up with enough onions, pickles and jalapeños. We each ate our entire sandwich, it was huge but so good. Sides were amazing- Mac n cheese & green beans with bacon We will definitely be back when we come to Whitney to fish- hopefully very soon!

We bought two meat plates and the BBQ potato. The potato was by far the best meal of the day. Nailed it. Portion sizes were great overall! The meat plate BBQ was alright. The issue we had was with the sides. I had mac and cheese and the potato salad. I will say, everything felt and tasted homemade. However, I feel like the chef is trying a little too hard to get authentic flavors. Let the BBQ be the star and give us some old-fashioned mustard potato salad and normal mac. Both of my sides tasted strange. They had a weird aftertaste, kind of sour or old, not sure. I never throw out food, but I didn't take the leftovers with me. My last critique is the actual BBQ sauce. It also tasted original and homemade but seemed to be trying too hard to be different. It almost felt like a tangy, sweet salsa or puree. Keep it simple, or perhaps offer choices between a general sweet traditional BBQ sauce and your homemade version. Giving it 4 stars until we visit and try again.

So, I originally ordered pickup through their website, but due to a snow day, they were closed by the time I arrived. I reached out on Facebook to let them know their website was still open even though the restaurant was closed. From the initial message to the first text received from the Vice President was no more than an hour. He stated that there was an issue with the website and offered a visit to the restaurant and a comp meal. A few days later, I swung by, and the staff were very welcoming and made my order very quickly. I got sliced smoked turkey, pork belly bites, two jalapeño twinkies, a 1/3 cheddar smoked sausage, and Mac and cheese. The smoked turkey was juicy and delicious. I loved the flavor. The pork belly bites were my favorite ‍. They had a nice crust, and when mixed with the BBQ sauce, they were really good. The cheddarsmoked sausage was my next favorite, and I'd come back just for those! Next, the jalapeno twinkies were amazing as well. Finally, the Mac... the only disappointment on the menu for me. The creaminess was there, but the flavor wasn't, and for me, that is very important.

If you are near Alvarado, TX, I hope you have an opportunity, no, that you take the opportunity to…read morestop here. First, don't judge a book by its cover. This is a must stop. It is a small operation putting out a high quality product in a small town environment. Everyone that works there is so nice and personable. So we found the place with Yelp and I am a sucker for small bbq places. We walked in and were greeted as we entered the door by two very nice women. They gave us instructions on how the ordering works and told us the Thursday special. Loaded backed potato. We chose the fillings and the meat. It was the tater, dessert and drink for $15. We had seen the size of the potato already and chose to split it, had it made with fatty brisket, and of course a 1/4 lb of sausage. We took our order up to the window and met the namesake of the restaurant, but by we did not know it then. The options in that simple dish was great. Again, fatty brisket, we did sliced on the side, we actually got both jalepeno and cheese, as well as regular smoked sausage. The sweet tea was great, not too sweet, perfect for my tastes. They insisted on carrying the tray out for us. Epic- the brisket was tender, juicy and perfectly smoked. The bark was great, had a touch of spice on the back end. The sausage was perfect. Honestly, I never asked for Bbq sauce, never needed it. The owner came out later, struck up a conversation. Let us know future menu items of which I am looking forward to. The banana pudding was sweet, but good. They are moving in a few days, but just around the corner. I look forward to stopping in again at their new location and new menu items. Just throwing this out as a recommendation for a future option: To go with the real potato fries that you are adding, consider adding fatty brisket on top, cover in shredded cheddar with a little pico and sour cream as well as jalapeños. Just a thought. Good luck!!!
