If you do this meal solo in an hour, you get a t-shirt, the meat sweats and a trip to the ER. If you share it, you will be overly full and very happy about it. I'm pretty sure they have one of everything on the menu on this sandwich. It's about 15" tall, 4-5 1/4 pound burgers, onions, a fried egg, lots of potatoes, jalapeños, 5 slices of pepper jack, bacon, sausage gravy, pulled pork and brisket. Great BBQ. We tried the pulled pork and the brisket, both amazing. The cornbread was the best part for me! The baked beans were more spicy than I expected them to be. Over the course of my 5 years going to school at Michigan State University, Meat BBQ has been my favorite spot to go to. Why you may ask? If you are a carnivore trying to live a fantasy of being a T-Rex eating nothing but a butt load of meat, this place is everything you want and more. All jokes aside, Meat BBQ is the perfect personification of Lansing vibe. It is a nice hole in the wall establishment and serves amazing, well cooked, food. The food is always cooked to perfection and to the specification of what a customer orders. My favorite dish to order is the Boss Log. It's a massive sandwich that has almost every meat possible and comes with a generous side of fries. WARNING, this sandwich is not for the faint of heart. This sandwich SHOULD be shared amongst 3+ people. It is $25 and is a great deal if you're eating with friends. I, myself, had foolishly attempted to take on this beast by myself and failed miserably. Great leftovers though! In terms of the the facility itself, it is well kept and has a great mood or vibe to it. It's a perfect place to sit back and relax. It's not a place you would wear a suit and prom dress to (unless you're into that), it's more of an after work/school hangout place. Okay, this is the only thing that I have known that has made people upset about eating at Meat BBQ. They list a "Vegetarian" option, but jokingly it's nothing but water. I will never go back. 1st called at 2:45 PM on Fathers day and half of the menu was sold out. Poor planning. When I went to get my order, the host totally ignored me, then after hunting down a waitress I thought I was finally going to get my takeout order. One of my FAVORITE restaurants in the Lansing area. If you like BBQ you have to try this place. It is a bit pricey, but completely in line with the portion sizes and quality. You will have leftovers. Hmmm... Not sure what to make of this place. I stumbled across reference to it some time ago and had made a note to check it out on my next visit to the Lansing area. I grabbed a seat at the bar and placed an order after a look at the menu. I was told they were out of the sausage and I substituted the pulled pork. I was then told they were out of sliced brisket (I settled for chopped). A little odd that a place called Meat was out of two primary meat items! The food was very good but not great. On a side note the guy next to me left after discovering they didn't have access to the NHL playoffs on the TV (disappointing for me as well). Worth another try (maybe lunch next time), but they need to work on a few things to improve the overall experience. read more

I wish I would've known about this place sooner. The food was amazing! They also have great selection of sauces that goes great on the meat. I had jalapeño and cilantro slaw for one of the sides and it was delicious. One downside was that the drinks were terrible. My group and I ordered 4 different kinda of drinks and they were equally unsatisfying. Visiting Lansing Michigan for the first time, my host knew of my love for barbeque, so they brought me here. It was lunch time so there was about a 15-20 wait. It went rather quickly, and before I knew it we were seated. We started with the nachos, fried pickles, and parmesan fries. The nachos were great, they had big chunks of avocado and brisket, plus all the traditional toppings. The cops seem to stay crisp even in the middle. The fried pickles were sweet and tangy and were good. This was my first time trading fried pickles. The parmesan fries with garlic was not what I had hoped they would be. The cheese was slathered all across the top of the fries. I would have preferred they grated the cheese over the hot fries, and used much less of it. My hosts ordered the ribs, and the other ordered the wings. I ordered the brisket. With that order they bring you this epic steak knife. What a waste. The brisket was so tender, you could not pick it up with your firm with it falling apart. It had a really nice smoke ring and was so rich and deep. I got Mac and cheese and share as sides. The Mac was good, but could have used some more seasoning. The slaw was bland, should have gotten the jalapeño slaw. I loved my experience, and will be back whenever I return. read more

We finally had a chance to get in with only a 40 minute stated wait time. After hanging out for about ten minutes, two spots opened at the bar and we were good to go! The place had a great vibe and the smoke smell tantalized the nose without being overpowering. We got one of the last two beef rib plates, and chose cornbread (delicious!), fries and beans as our sides. They were out of mashed potatoes and jalapeño slaw, which to me is a good thing since they seem focused on quality, not quantity. The food that we received was delicious. Everyone was very happy. They were pleasant, the order was correct, the food was wonderful and they provided plenty of utensils for our group. We even decided to order again since then. First time at Meat. We knew to get there early (11:30) to beat the lunch rush since we were a party of 6 and needed a bigger table. Every table was packed by 12:15. I ordered the half rack. Ate at Meat a week ago and here's my take on the food. I am a huge Saddleback fan down in Old Town and so is my son. Last week, we needed to eat somewhere a little closer for times sake so we chose Meat. They did not disappoint! I had the 2 meat platter with lean brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was tender and had an excellent smoke flavor. Their rub is subtle and I think they prefer to mainly flavor their meat with smoke. Excellent smoke ring as well. The pulled pork was juicy and every bit as flavorful as the brisket. Very well done. The sweet slaw was average and the mashed potatoes were as well. However, their sauces were definitely better than Saddleback. The Black Magic is something to be proud of. Very tasty. My son had the ribs and they were moist, tender and falling off the bone. Texas crutch, Meat? Good smoke ring too. So. Bottom line is I think Saddleback edges Meat out on the meat so to speak but Meat dominates the sauces. Very well done! We will be back!!! read more

The pork is fantastic, the brisket is fantastic, the sides are fantastic and the beer isn't that bad either. This really is a gem when it comes to offering unique cuisine to the mid-west audience. The portions are right and they aren't afraid to put a new spin on a classic dish (potato salad or cole slaw come to mind). By far the best BBQ in Lansing. You can tell the meat is smoked slow. I got the 2 meat combo pulled pork and beef brisket with fries and bacon and blue cheese potato salad and it was the bomb. The only thing I can say even slightly negative is I was not a big fan of their BBQ sauces but that was OK because I am not a big fan of BBQ sauce to begin with and the meat was tender and juicy enough without it. I was very disappointed with my lunch experience. The pulled pork was barely seasoned, which would be fine if the sauce options were any better. However, the sauces were uniformly bad. They were either way too sweet or seemed to have one flavor dominate. The mac and cheese was OK, but nothing to write home about. The chili fries were watery and the chili tasted like it came out of a can. The chicken wings were cooked well, but again, the sauce was unimpressive. Although an ample serving of grease is welcomed and expected at a BBQ joint, Meat went a bit overboard. And, the service was slow and inattentive. Some of the problems I experienced could be chalked up to growing pains. I really wanted to like this place, because there is truly a dearth of quality BBQ in mid-Michigan. Next, the name of the restaurant is Meat and they run out of meat on a regular basis. How is that even possible??? It's 6 pm, the restaurant closes at 9 and they are SOLD OUT. As a matter of fact, they ran out at 5 30. I have never ate here before and do not care to after this. One positive is there a popcorn place next door. Free test tasting on their popcorn bar. So while you wait for at least an hour, you can somewhat fill up on popcorn. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! I DO NOT CARE HOW GOOD IT IS! GO ANYWHERE ELSE! One word...WINGS!!!! They are wonderful and their blue cheese dressing is great too!!! I think they brine the wings prior to smoking and they are certainly delicious! Make sure you order earlier in the day for pick up because on the weekends they will sell out of those delicious bad boys! I have been going to Meat since they popped up down the road from from my house and now that I moved I make sure to stop in every time I come back to visit. Nice to see this place has beer now too!
