Look, I rate local dive bars with 5s because we need them. Ryan's Roadhouse is bigger than a dive bar, but equally needed in its way. Ryan's is where you go when your crowd is too big for the your hole-in-the-wall hometown dive bar or when you're feeling fancy. It is a large space with bar and table seating. Depending on where you enter, you might have to go around the bar to find the host, just keep going. You'll find the seating. If you're in need of a banquet (up to maybe around 100 people?), they also have a well-appointed basement that you can rent, and they will cater your event. Back to the standard bar-restaurant area, they now have digital menus which work well, and they will teach you how to use them. There are specials on the landing page, and then sections for burgers, sandwiches, meals, etc. A wait person will still take your order and handle substitutions, requests, and recommendations. Service is solid, and the food is good. The menu is a bit too broad for it to be great food, but they do a wide variety of things surprisingly well, so you're safe ordering almost anything, though I would question the salad bar, not from Ryan's perspectives, but the guests. Always good service. The roast beef dinner and fish were very good with ample servings. All entrees come with soup and salad bar which is very basic but adequate. It would be nice if there weren't four pasta salads on the salad bar and a bit more variety but I have made a dinner out of just the salad bar and it was fine. Lions game time on a Sunday afternoon coming back downstate from camping. Ryan's Roadhouse is a hot spot. It's packed for Sunday diners and football fans. They have great specials for game time, like Lions kool-aid, and half off pizzas. You have an obstructed view of at least two TVs. Easy off and back on the freeway. We took a chance with their parking lot being big enough for our rig. It definitely was and could fit a few if ppl with rigs or trailers parked correctly. The food was really good. Entrees come with soup and salad bar. It's small but just fine. I had the Mahi bowl. It was light but good flavors and not over cooked. Hubs had the Not Your Mama's lasagna. Surprisingly it was excellent with that REALLY good garlic toast. Service was quick and efficient. Could not have been better. read more

Was hoping for more. Thos is over an hour from my home. Have driven past and wanted to try this place out. Was sadly disappointed. I had ribs and my wife had the bbq Mac and cheese. I was in the area when my co-workers and I were looking for a place to sit for lunch. Upon looking at Yelp for places nearby, we found Ryan's Roadhouse. We entered the building and there was a large bar in front of us where no one was sitting. We stopped for a moment looking for someone to seat us. After waiting for a few seconds, we looked around behind the bar and saw a large seating area where people were eating and a sign that asked people to seat yourself. The menu is on an Android tablet which is cool and innovative. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Wrap and paid additional for the Sweet Potato Fries. I felt the wrap was smaller than I expected but it was still good. The fries were good as well. The only negative here was the layout of the interior with the bar kinda "in your face" when you enter the building. We rented the lower level for our wedding in May. Seated 64 people, which was perfect. Can't even begin to say how wonderful our experience was! Savannah was amazing to work with. She does her job very well, always answered all our questions and was very prompt on getting back with us when needed. The food, OMG!! Prime rib and Chicken Supreme, done to perfection. Service was superb and she answered all our questions, even stating what to avoid (from our questions). Loved eating on the patio with great food and cold beer. the cod was hard as a rock crispy and hurt the roof of my mouth while my boyfriends was tender...if you're not a huge eater, do not take the $17 dinner with the salad bar as that's a TON of food so my cost was wasted (I guess i could have loaded up at the food bar and taken the entre home but the fish dinner was NOT WORTH $17~!). Worst night ever! me and friends sat in the back next to the outside patio which is closed for the season, When a large group of women were seated next to us at a long table. We're not anti party and we enjoy a good time too. But these guest were loud so loud we couldn't have a decent conversation. To make matters worse a manager or owner came back to see how their service was ended up flirting and hugging all the women at the table. He was loud and obnoxious and decided to be the center of attention. It seemed that we were in the middle of an impromptu bachelorette party. It was so loud with the women screaming and yelling that our waitress could not hear what we were ordering. The last part of the shit show escalated when this guy began twerking his ass on the back of one of the women . .Unfortunately he had to stand behind our table to do this. First off...I hav never been here though I live within 30 minutes in Ithaca, mi.We were invited to a free seminar/dinner thru "Mesa", which is an ambulance service company. I am a very fussy private home cook, who can cook anything.Mostly eyhenic foods of all nationalities.I grew up with a houseful of grandmas and aunties who cooked from scratch.Polish, Italian, middle eastern, and delicious American classics. That said...I am extremly fussy about fried fish, the batter, and "do not give me "soggy fish that hasn't been drained on paper towel to absorb the oil. My next pet peeve is "french fries...I usually never eat them if they come with a dinner.I try, hoping they'll be great...Then end up leaving them ALL. HOWEVER, at this "free dinner/seminar ...at Ryans Road house...I order "fried Cod, and my hubby has real LAKE perch(not ocean perch that "most restrurants serve and its so fishy) BOTH were the best fish dinners I have ever had!.Nice light crunch batter, delicious firm, but delicate pieces of good quality lake perch and cod...(not pollock, passed off as real Cod).The "Double battered french fries were sheer perfection! I ate EVER one!~...In talking with others at the seminar...Someone had the "salmon bowl(grilled over seasoned rice...He said the salmon "was devious(one thing I am always afraid to order out even in higher class 4 star restrurants because its always smells fishy the minute its brough to the table). Went for Easter Brunch and couldn't have been happier! Such a great variety of delicious, hot food and lots of it. The prime rib was so flavorful and melted in your mouth! Cheap, crappy, low quality food with the prices of a high-quality restaurant. The only thing vegetarian on their menu is a grilled cheese. Even if you get the salad bar there's a high chance the pasta salads contain some form of meat. And the pasta salads that likely don't have meat are caked in so much mayo you might as well just eat a jar of mayo straight. For what they charge, you should just go to Swany's or Main Street Pizza. Their food is pretty good, appropriately priced, and not everything is lathered in meat and/or mayo. If you go there for drinks and to watch sports you'll be okay. But definitely do not eat there unless you enjoy disappointment. We didn't even want to go to this place but everywhere else in town was closed for Memorial Day weekend. read more

We stopped here with another couple on a Wed evening. It was trivia night, and there were several teams participating enthusiastically in the game. I had the nachos. They were excellent and more than I could eat even though I was starving when we arrived. My wife had a salad and it was excellent according to her. Again, it was plenty big and I ended up helping her finish it. The service was excellent. Our server was exceptionally friendly and was really attentive even though she seemed to be busy serving several tables. She is the standard for what I look for in a server, friendly, relaxed and attentive. I would probably give this place five stars if the decor was a little less tired. We stop here often while traveling through the St John's area and it is always worth the trip. Clean with friendly staff, it seems to be very family oriented with a bar for the adults and a great kids menu. The dinner portions are generous and varied with specials of the day. My favorite meal is the fried lake perch, served with a side and a trip to the salad bar. The perch are lightly breaded using flour and are delicate. Almost as good as mom's. I usually get the garlic mashed potatoes although their fries are pretty tasty too. read more
