We stumbled upon this great brewery while traveling with our dogs. The Morning Neighbor IPA was crisp and refreshing on a hot day. We tried the banana peppers. I was surprised how light they were for something fried. We appreciate our pups being allowed on the patio. The bartender was so sweet checking on us from time to time, being a Monday lunchtime. Walked over town hotel and noticed all of the parking spots were filled in front/ Nit a lot of restaurants open for dinner in downtown Lansing as many cater to the lunch crowd. First visit to Midtown and had the chips/salsa and the smash burger party melt. Salsa was fair at best but the Patty Melt more than made up for it. Party melt appeared a tad small but was actually quite filling. Had some seasoning on the meat that was delicious. Enjoyed the pub fries also. Good service, good food, and good music. This was a good place for us to stop for lunch on our way to Frankenmuth. We had a dog in tow, so we needed a place that was dog-friendly. This patio here definitely fit the bill. It is almost completely enclosed (by wooden pallets) so people passing by on the street/sidewalk aren't staring at you (or your pup). My friend and I went to a show at Grewal Hall so we were looking for a sit down meal nearby. There are honestly not many choices around there so this is what we landed on. It was fine overall. There was no wait to sit down which we appreciated. By the time we left, there were a few patrons waiting. I got the Haymarket Blood Orange Blonde fruit beer. Typically I like fruit beer but this one was kinda tough to finish! No fault to the restaurant though. We ordered our food and I got the fish and chips. It was interesting that the fish was like fish sticks as opposed to fried fillets. They could have been seasoned more. Overall just kind of bland! Midtown is a cute, basic, neighborhood type bar. The team members are always a good vibe, Trivia Tuesday's are always fun, and they have daily specials. The specials make the tab a bit more manageable as items, in my opinion, are a tad over priced. It's a good place to grab a yummy quick snack or enjoy a bev on the Washington Square patio. However, I don't recommend it for dinner, there aren't many entrees per se. Midtown closes at 10pm during the week and 11pm on the weekends, with the kitchen closing an hour before so plan accordingly! read more

I'm in love with their pork carnitas nachos!! Normally with nachos I'd ask for salsa & sour cream on the side but it's so not necessary with these!! Tons of flavor and a good amount of great topping. Meat was tender too. We also had the olive burger cooked medium & tater tots. The burger was cooked just right, pretty thick & juicy. Tots were as expected, hot & crispy. On a previous visit we tried the fish tacos which are also recommended. Huge pieces of fish. There are a great variety of beer options and full bar. Our waiter/waitresses have always been nice and pretty on top of things. Sometimes things here do seem to take a while - getting your food, drink etc. We used to come here a couple years ago and had poor experiences. Heard there may be new owners or management so tried it again. Glad we did because now our last 2 experiences have been pretty positive. BUT - MBC should do something about their gross bathrooms!!!!! For a man to come out saying it was worse than a dingy gas station bathroom is really saying something!!!! Should be an easy fix. Also, dim the lights during dinner!!! They have bright led bulbs....one time lights were dim, next time turned up super bright. Be consistent. Happy they have some small TVs if you're trying to watch a game. Tons of open wall space so they really could get more and bigger TVs. Would likely get more people in for games. read more

5-stars for this fantastic restaurant and brewing company! Angie, our bartender/waitress was outstanding. She made excellent suggestions and offered great insight into the local community and happenings around town. She was even creating drinks that day from the blackberries from her own garden. She is heavy handed on her pours, which is a huge plus. The metered parking is free on Saturday and Sunday as well as after 6pm during the week. This restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating options. Plus, the offer their own brews of beer that were pretty darn great! But the show stopper was the lobster grilled cheese and truffle fries. Holy crap! This is a from scratch kitchen, and you can absolutely tell. See the photo...the chunks of lobster in this grilled cheese is no joke. I don't find myself in this area typically...but next time I am I am making it a point to stop here. read more

We recently stopped at Midtown for lunch, and I like to try beers. They brew some of their own, which are pretty good by themselves compared to some other local breweries. They also have a good variety of beer brands and styles to make a pretty well rounded beer menu. We had a little chips and dips app, which consisted of some tortilla chips and two dips. One was a spicy cheese dip and the other was I'm assuming guacamole or tomatillo based. Both obviously made in-house and different enough to be interesting. Don't remember what the wife had but I had the fish tacos. Each had a large piece of fish with a tasty homemade slaw. Ver very good. This is about the third time we've been to Midtown and the food, drinks, and service are worth going back for. read more

A great brewery; both the beer and food were delicious and service was perfect. I ordered a high gravity IPA that was awesome. I really enjoyed their outdoor space equipped with fire pits for when it was a bit chilly out. My friends and I went on a busy day and although the service was a little slower, the staff and manager did a great job of communicating with us and making us as comfortable as possible. I got the mimosa flight which was delicious followed by the Buffalo chicken sandwich and fries. The sandwich was HUGE which I appreciated because it allowed me to eat some and have some left over for a late night snack. A colleague and I had dinner on a weekday - in town for a conference and not familiar with the restaurant - and would definitely recommend to others and return if we're ever in the Lansing area again. I visited this place today (11/6/20) during the pandemic for its fish and chips meal. The cost is $15 but I think it's worth it because it's a large portion. You receive 3 large breaded and fried pieces of cod fish, fries, and slaw. For my meal, I asked that the seasoning for the fries be placed on the side because last time (see other review when I had the lobster cheese sandwich) the amount of seasoning was too much. The fish was good as I remembered. The reason why this meal does not receive 5 stars is because the slaw was trash. It had no taste and appeared old. After tasting it, I set a side. Another reason is because although it's just fish and chips, I shouldn't be charged $2 for adding just 1 bun. $2 can buy a whole loaf of bread. There was sanitizer everywhere and the staff and myself wore mask, but other customers did not have masks (well, a lot of them did not have masks). read more

We had a lunch meeting and ordered takeout recently. The server was extremely polite and handled our order well. High marks. I chose the twisted turkey looking forward to the house smoked turkey and hickory smoked cheddar. Well, something wasn't quite clicking with this sandwich. (The staff said that all meat was smoked on their masterbuit smoker). When you say the turkey is smoked, you need to provide smoke on the meat. This serving was void of smoke. And the supposed smoked cheddar didn't deliver any smoke either. Disappointed. The Smoked Dip was slightly better. They might have noticed a faint hint of smoke on the brisket. Did not taste any rub seasoning. Average. The burger got better reviews. The beef patty tasted seasoned and full of flavor. Solid. Overall a good burger. The fries were good with tasty seasoning. And the soft pretzel was pretty good. Average to good offerings and not a bad place. I would like to know why the smoke was AWOL. read more

With time to kill and a growling stomach, I decided to give this place a try. I went with my server's recommendation and ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese and the Pub Fries. Excellent choice! The Brie really made the sandwich and the rosemary on the pub fries even made those special. The selection of beers and spirits was good, but my server, who was also the bartender, had to admit she never made an Old Fashioned before, but even that turned out excellent. The only thing detracting from the experience was the other bartender, likely still in training, making out with her boyfriend. Stopped in to Midtown on Sunday with 5 grade school boys in tow after hitting up a nearby trampoline park. It's smallish inside and a bit dark but generally a good atmosphere. It was 1 pm and they brought us the brunch menu which had a limited selection of some pretty unique offerings. I thought that was awesome but the boys were not so sure... After some brief negotiation they let us order off the regular menu if we stuck to burgers and sandwiches. I got the Brunch burger which was great! It had chimichurri sauce and a fried egg so you can't go wrong! The boys all got burgers and were quite happy and they also enjoyed the Brix sodas. I got the midtown 1 nugget IPA which was pretty good too. The staff was friendly and attentive. All in all maybe not the perfect spot to bring a gang of boys but it worked out well. read more

Absolutely in aww with this service. We walked in and were immediately turned away. We were told he couldn't not take our party of 10 because we were such a huge party. This is my family and have been to many restaurants our entire life.Yes ,sometimes it's harder to accommodate and takes a bit, which we understand , however we have NEVER been told that we can't be served and have the served turn around and walk away and leave us standing at the door. I found this online while looking for a craft beer place in Lansing near the Capital. 28 craft beers with more than half of them being made by Midtown. 5 ounce samplers depending on choice were $2-$3 each. The cod fish tacos were excellent along with the service. Low top and bar seating. Strictly enforced metered street parking. WiFi but you have to ask for the password. The only down side was the music playing loudly from the kitchen was different and clashing with the music in the restaurant. I would return. read more

Let me start of by saying the beers were really good, and over all we enjoyed our experience at MBC in Downtown Lansing. However the management and waitstaff really need to get their acts together! Before going to MBC we checked out their website to see if they had a happy hour, any specials, etc. We were pleasantly surprised to see they had $1 off pints and a $4 app from 3-6 Mon.-Thur. So, into to MBC we go for their happy hour. The waitress was extremely cold from the moment she first approached the table. No greeting- nothing. We ordered drink and reviewed the appetizer menu. There was nothing about special pricing on any of the items listed. So we asked-"We don't have any appetizer specials, we got a new menu." We told her it was listed on the website. "I'll go check." Over comes the manager- "We haven't had those specials since the middle of November. We can't get our web developer to change the website so we're not doing that anymore and there isn't anything I can do about the website." Not one offer of anything because of their issue with their website. No discounted apps or drinks... "it's not my fault" Well, it's a good the beer was good because that manager was pretty redic. We did end up ordering fried pickles (pretty good but the dipping sauce could use some serious improvement) and onion rings (nice and crispy with good batter). If you are thinking about heading to MBC, skip the trip to the website. Apparently they are not responsible for it's content anyway. PS- bring money for the parking meters. read more

Ambiance is definitely less updated/trendy than some of the other places downtown, but who cares when the prices are cheaper and the food is better? The menu is much more adventurous than you might except--duck & brie sandwich, lobster grilled cheese--and it delivers on taste (free peanuts were somewhat mushy, but also free). The MBC beers have always been very drinkable, and as another reviewer mentioned, they do beer flights (3-7 beers). Great place for a large group. They accept reservations, which is less common than you might think in the Lansing/East Lansing area, and service has always been very friendly and attentive. One of the best places in downtown Lansing to grab a drink and a meal. read more

My review here is the exact same one as for the "Michigan Brewing Company" because despite Yelp's bizarre insistence that the "Michigan Brewing Company" (this specific pub, that is; not the actual brewery in Williamston) is closed it is not... It just no longer brews it's own poor quality beer and now they sell other breweries good quality beers; so they changed their name to reflect that; thus dropping the word "brewing" from the name. --------------------- Midtown Beer Company (MBC) used to be affiliated with MBC (the Michigan Brewing Company) an actual brewery that used to be located in Williamston. MBC's (the brewery) beer wasn't very good and apparently MBC (the brewery) wasn't very good at paying their rent so suffice it say: they folded and the Lansing pub changed its name and started carrying other Michigan crafts (which was a substantial step up in beer quality). MBC (the pub) offers the traditional selection of pub fare (Reuben's, burgers, chicken wings, etc...). None of it is extraordinary, it may in fact be a bit overpriced, but it's not bad by any means. The real issue with MBC is the venue. Located at the far south end of the downtown Lansing-Washington sq businesses, MBC is a large open space with high vaulted ceilings featuring poor acoustics. As a result it requires very few people to be present before the noise gets out of control. Which makes the decision to push the tables to the wall and feature local musicians a confusing one. Don't get me wrong - I love music and want to support local musicians but the acoustics are so shoddy and the lack of any real performing space really kills the experience. MBC would be a significantly better pub if they just installed some noise dampening foam or heavy fabric drapes. Additionally, MBC should consider reorienting it's furniture; as it is the layout is disjointed and doesn't lend itself to the performers well; every time musicians arrive the bar looses effective seating. As it is the noise makes the bar to uncomfortable for me to remain for more than one drink during peak hours. I'm sure I'm not the only one... read more

I like this place. For me it's convenient because I live across the street and it's open late. So if I want a good brew or a nice meal, later in the evening, Midtown is a sure thing. The beer is good. It's a little heavy on the IPAs. They had a phenomenal Carmel Wheat and a great Coconut Stout that I enjoyed. When it comes to beer, if you're a hophead this place is for you. The cocktails are still being refined. Of course it's a brewery, so expectation management is key. That being said, they have fresh herbs and the bartenders are smart and open-minded. They can make up just about anything and are always willing to experiment. The food is really creative for pub food. They have the great burgers and assortment of fried food normally found at a bar but they also have lobster grilled cheese sandwiches and a bistro streak salad layered with greens, hash, made to order steak and topped with an egg. The wings are also amazing if you're looking for jumbo sized, smoked wings with a near perfect amount of heat. The service is polite but it is slow. This is especially true around lunch time. This has to do with the volume of costumers. If catching a quick meal when you're on a tight clock is your plan, this isn't the place. This is a cool brewery where you go if you have a little time to relax and enjoy the food and company of friends.
