Very cool surprise. Our bartender was amazing! He made us laugh, taught us a thing or two about their unique beer options, and made me the best non-alcoholic mojito-esque drink ever. It was so refreshing. MBC has a lot of alcoholic offerings I'd never heard of before. It's a great place to explore your booze palette. The food looked good too, although we weren't there to eat. I came to this restaurant as a substitute for another restaurant that was blocked off because of a festival and... I wish I had not gone. The beet was good, but the food, unfortunately, not so much. My son had pancakes, which were both burnt. I couldn't eat my hash browns and my wife couldn't eat her sweet potato fries because they were fried in old grease and they both tasted like fish. I think it would be a good place to meet up for a pint, but not for a meal. Although the food wasn't all that great, our server was awesome and the staff were really nice in general. read more

It's a casual pub environment. I went for their Sunday brunch and got their French toast. It was a lot better than I thought! I thought it would be your typical sweet, sweet French toast but it ended up being the perfect amount of sweetness for me. The banana and peanut butter added such a nice balance. Wow. Took 20 minutes to take our order. Took 45 minutes to get our food out. We ordered the poutine and a burger and a grilled cheese club. Found a hair in the pickles on the burger dish. All around terrible experience. The burger was tiny and was $15. The poutine was a handful of fries and a couple spoonfuls of the gravy if you can call it that for $12. The grilled cheese club actually looked worth the menu pricing. Fries were hardly warm. The waitress didn't know what the flight special of the day was. Took her about 5 minutes to come back when I asked what the flight special was. We spoke with a manager and the only positive in this experience was he was more than happy to do whatever we wanted. Our choice, to leave without a bill or any remakes. On top of that when I asked the manager what one of the things on the poutine was, he said he had no idea what it was. It looked like crab but assured me it wasn't but he didn't know what it was. You'd think a manager would know. And when asked why it took so long to get our food, he said there were a couple other big groups. There was one group of 5 people there when we ordered. Another group of 5-7 people came in after we ordered and a couple came in 10 minutes before we got our food and they received their food 5 minutes later. I've been coming here since 2016. I was looking for a place that offered a French Dip sandwich in Lansing. I saw that they offered the Smoked Dip sandwich and it blew my mind. It had crispy fried onions, great flavor, and even the bread was perfect. Unfortunately, they changed their menu and they replaced their sandwich with the Philly Dip - it has sautéed onions and bell peppers on it. It lacks flavor and I felt the meat was cut too thin and got stuck in my teeth with every bite. Not impressed with the new sandwich - bring back the Smoked Dip!! My boyfriend enjoys their burgers. Their fries used to have fresh greens on top. I miss that. However, with that being said, I love their garlic fries. They are always flavorful and crispy. This is a must have when you come here. Finally, their beer is delicious and they have a great Happy Hour special. We have tried several of their beers but our favorites are the Irish Red and the Strawberry Hibiscus beers. They also have many beers from other companies on tap. Highly recommend this place! read more

I wanted to come here twice before I reviewed just because my first time was so-so. In total I've tried 3 of their sandwiches, all were pretty good but not great. I think the beer is a little overpriced, but a good selection. I love the board game selection, and I'm not sure when but once a week they have board game night. I still really enjoy MBC, even the second time around. I like the ambiance and the feel for a mid-Michigan establishment. However, pops didn't appreciate the volume of the music because he found it hard to hear the two of us sitting with him. There definitely seemed to be some after work regulars and some families moseying in for an early evening dinner. Our waitress was so much better than the waitress had been the first time around! She was prompt, pleasant, and polite. Not to mention that she actually had an opinion about the food and drinks she was serving, unlike the server we had back in November. When trying to make a decision about what to order I asked her and her eyes rolled back into her head as she proclaimed that the burgers there are "ahhhhhmazing!" I wouldn't necessarily go that far to say ahhhhhmazing, but both my pops and I had a burger and they were good. We also went for the salad, which was an added $2 or something, but were quality "side" salads. Another improvement that can be made is adding the menu to the website... I know they have the beers listed there, but the menu is great and it's a bummer I can't go back and figure out exactly what burger I had. I appreciate how hard this place is trying to make a great impression and I think they are well on their way! read more

Good beer, good food, good service (most of the time). Its a good bar. Not exceptional, but good. The bartenders are knowledgeable, and friendly. The menu has traditional bar fare with cleaver twists. Weekly specials are a bargain, especially Wacky Mug Wednesday. Bring your mug in, and they'll fill it with 22oz of house beer for $3! Personally, its my first choice for pubs downtown Lansing, and that's why I go regularly. So with all the good things, why three stars? Because after all said and done, its a brewpub. And it doesn't even have the brewery there. The environment is good, but not great; the food is above average for Lansing, but not amazing; and the prices are reasonable. In other words, it is a solid place to get beer and food, so three stars. read more

Stopped for a late lunch with my lady this past Saturday. We were able to be seated immediately around 3pm. I had the Midtown American Stout, which was good, but I would have preferred on nitro. However, the Mutha Ducker burger and Twisted Turkey sandwich did not dissapoint! The garlic pub fries were also really good. Service was excellent and food came pretty quick. Definitely a place that I could see myself being a regular at if I lived closer. The small town feel is great, despite being in downtown Lansing. I came in after a long day meeting and to my delight, it was happy hour which meant $4 beers and half off apps. They let you try samples of their beers which I'm a huge fan of, trying both the amber ale and single IPA, I ended up going with the latter. It was crisp and refreshing without being overpowering with hops, perfect for the warmer than usual fall day. I also decided to take a look at their appetizers, because even though I wasn't hungry, who can resist half off? I got the fried pickle chips and they were way better than I expected - a light crisp breading stuck to the pickle chips for dear life, allowing me to get crispy breading and the juicy pickle in every bite. So why the 4 stars? I was a little bummed that despite the menu saying they had delicious pizzas (truffle pizza, LOBSTER pizza?!), they in fact did not have any and hadn't for a while due to a fridge and oven malfunction. Aldo, their appetizers did not give a ton of variety, almost all items were cheese or something fried. Womp womp. But don't get me wrong, I'll be back! read more

One hostess working and someone behind the bar. We sat at the bar, the bartender never acknowledge us when we sat at the bar. We sat for just about 10 minutes, we finally left. Very impressed with this place. We went in the evening for a late lunch and don't have a bad thing to say. We brought along the dog so we ate outside and they accommodated amazing. Our waiter was even attentive to the dog giving him lots of attention and brought out a water bowl for him. Flight of beers, must have appetizer truffle fries and delicious entrees. Inside is a very inviting feeling and there's tons of fun board games for anyone to use. They also have plenty of "fruit beers" available for those who aren't into beer. If I could give it zero stars I would. We checked out the menu online, and it had some unusual offerings, but when I called, three of the items I tried to order are no longer offered. I called in the order at 8:39pm and was told, "we'll see you in 10 minutes. I never got my food until 9:14. The man behind the bar said, "We're very busy." There were 7 tables with customers- all basically done eating and watching the game. Then when the hostess brought me my food, I repeated that the time given for pick up was not at all close. "We're very sorry ma'am." Will never order or suggest this place to anyone. They could care less about customer service. Their online menu is deceptive - just don't go. The beau and I stopped in here to grab a bite to eat. He struck out on a couple of his first beer orders, but the bartender was able to recommend a suitable replacement. I ordered the What-A-Burger with sweet potato fries and he ordered a portabella burger with sweet potato fries. I was surprised by his order, but he said it was smash and if he came back he'd get it again. I tried it, and completely agree that it was delicious!! My burger was huge, but delicious. The sweet potato fries were superb, I'm pretty sure they were baked but my guy wouldn't let me ask. I wasn't sure which beer to try (I wanted to try one of their brews), again the bartender was very helpful and gave me tastes of a couple different beers. It was much appreciated and I decided on the strawberry cream soda. I enjoyed it. We will definitely be back. read more

It's nice to have an actual Brewpub in Lansing. I don't count Harpers because it's in East Lansing and is awful. Michigan Brewing Co is not the best brewery in the world. None of their beers are really earth shattering (leave that to Short's and Bell's), but they are all pretty good. If you want a brown ale, for example, MBC's brown ale will do right by you.Their Celis Grand Cru is the only one that REALLY stands out of the Michigan microbrew crow. All of the beers are $4.50 for a pint, which is reasonable. The food is pub food, but done quite well. They have veggie burgers, which is nice. You can also get fried pickles on your burger, which is delicious. They do them the correct Southern way: breaded slices that are deep fried, not spears. They also have some tasty sweet potato fries. So the food and beer are good and reasonably priced. It's also in a great location and has good hours. But what really puts it over the top for me is the ambience. It's non-smoking. There are no TVs and the music is kept low, so you can actually have a conversation. Also, the ceilings are high and they have large windows facing the street, so it's pretty well lit. Essentially, it's the exact opposite of a dank hole in the wall. Sometimes I want a dank hole in the wall, but not all the time. read more

MBC recently opened a location in Lansing, their second after the Webberville brewery. There is a wide selection of beers, of course, this being a brewpub. I personally liked their Porter, which has a bit of coffee and dark flavor. MBC also scores points with their selection of local fish, from perch to walleye and Lake Superior whitefish. The walleye was tasty if a bit overcooked and a tad bony, but the perch was fantastic. Even the half order was plenty - 4 perch fillets! The waffle fries were a great addition as well, and starting with fried pickle spears is always a great choice. Okay, it's not going to blow you away, but it's high time Lansing had a brewpub with local brews and decent pub food. As a huge bonus, you can get a giant growler of beer to go for like $11, and refills are $8. Super deal for some great beer. Extra extra bonus: they're open til 2 AM! Food until like 1:30 AM! Great local gem! We decided to give this a try to hook up with an old friend that lives and works down by the capitol, and had a great time. Their beer selection is vast, though a bit IPA-heavy for the moment, with all Michigan craft beers. They serve peanuts-in-the-shell as a complimentary appetizer, which is a great accompaniment for craft beer. Finally, the menu was vast and seemed well thought-out and prepared. We had a salad, a burger and a chicken sandwich and all were quite good. It used to be the Michigan Brewing Company tasting room, but with the demise of the parent brewery they had to re-brand and adapt. Came here with my fiancé and little one for a late lunch/early dinner on Friday. It was our first time here, and we were greeted by our amazing server, Eddie. He made our experience so great, and was so awesome with our little one! Not to mention, the food and drinks were phenomenal!! We had the Ruben and the Mac and cheese, and a few different house beers. Everything was delicious, the service was great, and the restaurant itself was unique and beautiful! Stopped for a brew and an appetizer around 4:00 on a Saturday. Midtown parking was easy and the place has a cool vibe. Love the hardwood floors and all the live plants and herbs. They have lots of Michigan beers, good number of taps. The menu is well written and everything sounded good and fresh. We ordered the truffle fries which were great. The lemon thyme aioli was delicious. Prices were decent. Service was horrible. We waited and waited to order drinks. No one ever came. My husband went and tried to order at the bar and was told our server would be right with us. We waited and waited. We would have just left but we had promised our 7 year old an appetizer. Eventually my husband went back to the bar and they poured the drinks. A server did finally show up to take our order but everything was in slow motion (and we don't like to be rushed!). read more

I could understand her attitude though after watching the staff in action. The place about half full and our waitress was going on a full tilt the whole time we were there, while 3 or 4 other staff members stood by the kitchen window and watched the world go by. Excited that more businesses are coming to downtown Lansing. I couldn't wait to take my husband there, as he is a beer connisseur. Initially I was not impressed with the decor or atmosphere. It is very stark, bright and boring. I couldn't hear the music, but people were so loud and echoing, that my husband and I could barely hear eachother.The bar is the LEAST inviting counter I've ever encountered. The host didn't offer us a basket of peanuts (in shell, like Texas Roadhouse). The server didn't come by too soon or too frequently, which was slightly bothersome, especially when your bottle of beer has been empty. We were sat at a small table up against a small wall section, blocking our view of the entire other half of the restaurant, very boring. Thankfully we enjoy looking at eachother :) The food was decent. I always attempt to make my meal as healthy as I can, omitting certain toppings or sides. It wasn't so easy, but I kinda caved and order fried pickles anyways. These were decent, I think they used Claussens. They were too thick tho, giant spears, mostly pickle, not much breading. My husband ordered some Bad Ass Kid Rock burger special. It was huge and pretty good. The waffle fries were terrific tho, but I did have to send them back the first time. They were still raw. I also had to send my sandwhich back because they forgot to put anything that I asked for on it (lettuce, pickles, onions, etc...) The odd thing is, they were things that are suppose to come on the sandwhich. The tab was reasonable, especially with 2 sandwhiches/fries, appetizer and 2 beers. It was under $25. This place is so disappointing, it kind of breaks my heart. I want to love the MBC, and I want to support Michigan beers, but it will be a long time before I try this place again. The most recent heartbreak was my attempt to go there for Sunday brunch. I saw a billboard near Frandor saying that they now have brunch, and I got super-excited because there aren't many good drinking brunch options in Lansing. Upon arrival, we noticed that there was only one person serving as both bartender and server, despite the fact that the place was actually pretty busy. Way to staff up for a new service you are trying to promote, MBC. Now, brunch to me always = bloody marys, and the Webberville location makes their own vodka, so I assumed that they'd have them. Well, you know what they say about assuming things. As an alternative to a Bloody Mary, the bartender did offer Cabernet, which confused me. Are vodka and red wine so similar? I understand if the lack of vodka is a liquor license issue, but there are ways to make beer into awesome breakfast-y drinks. Half-beer, half-OJ, anyone? Did I mention that the sign on the front window said that Sunday was all-day happy hour? Well, after getting one pint of beer and waiting over 20 minutes to have somebody, anybody, ask us if we want food, we decided to go someplace else. When we asked the bartender how much to settle up, it was $4.50 per beer. Either the MBC has the worst Happy Hour pricing in Lansing, or the one employee had no idea what she was doing.
