Fun fact about Moriarty's: they host jazz bands on Tuesday nights, and for that I love them. Ok, I'm wildly biased by the jazz offering. The pub itself is super divey, hole-in-the wall. Opposite of upscale. Drink and food selection are not great. But the staff are really kind and responsive, so that helps. read more

We play DJ Trivia here every Thursday. The staff is friendky. The menu is limited, but everything is tasty and reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to getting another of theirolive burgers. All of their soups are homemade. The room where we play trivia is kinda small which creates an intimate vibe. The DJ adds to this by chatting with the guests. read more

Great atmosphere, live music, strong drinks and good food! The women who own this place pride themselves on amazing customer service. They love what they do and it shows. P.S. cleanest bar bathrooms in town! read more

From the outside it's pretty plain, but inside it's got good food and service, plus games like darts and events like a trivia night! Don't judge a book by it's cover! read more

The pub burger is life-giving. Get it cooked medium. You will not be disappointed. I've had a few sandwiches and the wings from here which are also really good and priced well. Kind staff and low key vibe. Loved the reggae playing in the background, super chill. read more

Came to the pub on a Thursday night (after Christmas) and they had a great cover band playing. Unfortunately, it took us about 15 minutes to get our drinks at the table and over 45 minutes to get basic bar food. The pub was maybe only halfway full. Our server decided cleaning the surrounding tables was more important that taking our order (I guess?) This is a bummer, I wanted the place to be a better experience because they're a bar that actually has a decent food selection. If you're looking for even semi-decent service, don't come here. read more

This is the place to go for well priced stiff drinks. The staff is always attentive .... The food is not bad but not great... seems like a lot of frozen stuff deep fried but I'm ok with that read more

Last of dying breed. Excellent drink prices & decent quality. Adequate staff. Awesome salad & fresh cut fries in terms of size & cost anywhere in this area. Vegetarian/Vegan options. ANY live music nights are lit. Serious darts situation. Go, don't complain. Stop gentrification, drink & eat at Mort's often! read more

Great place with good music best open mic night would go all week and bring all my friends

This place is your classic dive. It does the job. Their chicken tendies and wings are good. But every other time they pretend they can't do honey mustard wings. And once they upcharged me to toss wings in a honey mustard. Like guys, this isn't that hard. Don't be silly. Earn another star or two. You're already ready a dive. Have some class. read more

Good strong drinks and awesome burgers! Tuesday night jazz too! Wait staff was helpful and friendly. Go check this place out!

The pub itself is pretty dark, almost gloomy if youre there during the dinner hour (which we were), but we chose a seat outside. weather was awesome, had a nice view of the capitol building, and our waitress kept the strongbow comin'. they also have live music quite a bit from what i understand, but again, we were outside and away from it all. tasty food, all your standard bar fare. next time im in lansing i plan to get a bite here then move on to stober's next door for some shuffleboard! read more

We were directed here by another local bar just two doors down. While visiting the Lansing area we were hankering for a little lunch. There is a little confusion (menu wise) about what an Irish Pub should be serving. The closest thing I could find was a Ruben. My husband ordered Turkey and cheese and I also tried the chili. The chili was just on the edge of too spicy but had good flavor. I didn't notice beans so it seem like more of a coney sauce. The corned beef on the ruben was tough. Realllly tough. Flavor good and fries excellent. My husbands only comment was, "It's hard to screw up ham and cheese." I wouldn't go out of my way for the place. It had a few locals that stopped in for a drink and to get out of the heat. WAAAAAAAYYYYY too dark! Even for a pub. read more

Servers and bartenders were phenomenal. The "security guard" yanked our drinks that the bartender served us at last call, out of our hands and aggressively pushed us out the door. Won't go back. Bad vibe. read more

Mort's is: not a cool scene, not a fancy bar with the coolest drinks, and not a great place to pick up someone. It's a pub, with a small menu, a few good beers on tap (Smithwick's, Guinness, Oberon, Harp), and darts. Real brushboard dartboards, in pretty good shape with the traditional chalk and boards that are good enough for a night out. Live music often too, and the bartenders do a reasonable job getting that Guinness poured, and poured right. read more

In the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Moriarty's -- I met my husband here (yes, it WAS the last place on earth I'd have expected to find a spouse!). it's not a fancy bar. It's not a trendy bar. But it's affordable and fun, and they have tons of dart boards. I've seen everyone from old farts to college students to young professionals here -- you won't feel like you wandered into the "wrong bar," no matter who you are. read more

Classic Irish bar, classic Lansing bar. No frills, but friendly staff. Good bar food. Strong and cheap drinks.

Not fancy. Not known for outstanding food. Just a good place to hang out and have a drink or two. Several dart boards if you are so enclined. I have a soft spot for this bar as I welcomed in a new year here a few years ago and had a great time to end what had been a crappy year. Just go. Chill out. And drink. read more

Great local bar! The bartenders are attentive and very friendly. They have great drink specials, and their regular drink prices aren't bad either. I've only tried a few things on their menu, but they were very good. The veggie wrap is very good. Overall, a great place to hang out with friends. read more

We love jazz, my wife and I. And Mort's has Tuesday Night Jazz and is really the only reliable local venue for this music in this area. Which is shameful considering the caliber of the jazz program at MSU. So.... well, unless you sit right near the "stage" area, the acoustics and sound are horrible. Unfortunately, that's pretty normal with bars. NO one seems to understand managing sound in venues like this. Regardless, the place supports JAZZ. So, we attended for most of a first set. We'd already been elsewhere for a while, so initially my wife ordered just a couple of club sodas while I was in the restroom. I figured the server would stop back within 10 minutes or so, and intended to order at least a beer and light food such as soup..... It was 40 minutes before we were checked with again.... Standard set is 45 to 50 minutes.... Nope. We were done. Left unsurprised, a little hungry, and wishing we'd have had at least a reasonable opportunity to support the genre with more than a few dollars' tip. read more

On the night of 4/25/14, I was refused service at Moriarty's because the server perceived my I.D. as a fake. The server examined my license for about thirty seconds, seemed to ignore my birthdate and the large red letters that spell, "UNDER 21 UNTIL 10-29-2012", and flat out accused me of having a fake. When I implored her to reconsider her judgement, she left to consult a coworker, who apparently agreed with her bizarre decision. She returned to the table, told me to my face that I had a fake I.D., and refused me service. My friend and I got up and started to leave. At that point, the server seemed to remember her humanity and asked to let another employee examine the I.D.; however, the damage was done, and it was clear that an atmosphere of respect was not present, so we left for a different bar. I am twenty-two years old; moreover, I am a repeat customer at Moriarty's. Let me say that again: I AM A REPEAT CUSTOMER. I explained to the server that I had purchased alcohol at Moriarty's many times before, but she did not seem to understand. She was too busy not comprehending my I.D. In Michigan, you can buy an enhanced license to enter neighboring Canada; essentially, it acts as a passport for nearby countries. I purchased the I.D. when I was nineteen. Unlike a normal license, the Secretary of State won't send out a new one when a citizen turns twenty-one; instead, the individual has to drive back to the S.O.S. and purchase the horizontal license. The important thing to take from this is that the state of Michigan understands it's twenty-one-year-old citizens may have vertical enhanced licenses, and therefore, it's perfectly legal to retain the vertical I.D. Unfortunately, businesses like Moriarty's do not understand the law, and they would rather judge, insult, and refuse their repeat customers. I should not have to explain the law to them, considering that Moriarty's is in the business of selling alcohol. Ironically, the capitol building is in plain sight: by walking roughly one mile to the capitol, they could cure their ignorance. It's a shame: I like Moriarty's; however, I don't want to spend my money at a bar where the staff doesn't respect its customers enough to understand Michigan law. That night, I went to a different Lansing bar called Eden Rock. There, I was able to purchase beer and food, and more importantly, I was treated with respect. Do not go to Moriarty's if you have a legal I.D. and you appear to be under forty years old. It's possible that the staff will refuse service because of confusion, judgmental presuppositions, or plain pig-ignorance. read more

This pub is a shitshow straight out of $0.25 "wax cup of beer night" at the local single A affiliate baseball diamond. It can't tell if its a college beer bar or a VFW cum Moose Lodge. Whatever it is, its not pretending to be anything its not. Its freaky, but its a decent place to grab a few beers for dirt DIRT cheap. Eight drinks -- as in over-poured vodka cocktails -- cost somewhere in the vicinity of $20. Fantastic in this economy. read more

Very good lemon drops, also the best place in Lansing to play darts on real dart boards.

Moriarty's offers a wide variety of entertainment from the huge wall of dart boards (also have dart leagues), decent weekend bands and jukebox, to the freaks that frequent it, making it a people watching paradise. They have excellent pizza and sometimes in the summer they have $5 pizza and $5 pitchers on Sunday. They have a small patio area. The quesadillas are awesome. Cheap beer and drinks and laid back, casual atmosphere. They also sell dart supplies. read more

Staff was terrible and rude. Food was terrible. Had a very very long wait for everything and the bar wasn't even busy. Tried to get staffs attention and the waitress got angry with us. Bartender didn't know how to make simple drinks. My wife also was getting approached by some creeps the whole night. Just an all around terrible experience. read more

Love this place. It's a dive bar where the regulars don't stare at you like you are trespassing. Great drink specials and they pour every mix drink as a double yet are cheaper than any other place that will sell you a single. Not a huge draft beer selection but they do have a few MI craft beers plus a ton of bottles. Prices are very cheap and staff is very friendly. I only gave it four stars because the food, while cheap, is just ok (they aren't known for their food, I'm sure) and they severely lack TV's as I believe they only have two in weird spots. You can't beat the drinks and the price. One of my favorite Lansing hangouts. read more

Was there for a Jazz Tuesday. Entertainment was excellent. The food was excellent and they were super helpful for a member of my group with an allergy to pepper(s). Only complaint is that it kind of dirty/dingy and it smells in there because it's carpeted- definitely a little divvy, but your nose gets used to it after a few minutes. read more

What kind of idiot goes to a bar for the food? And it's not a micro-brewery or distillery so you can't complain about the drinks. The patrons here are friendly locals served by friendlier staff. What's really outstanding is the local musical talent...especially on Tuesdays Jazz Night when they bring in national acts followed by a jam.... And there's no cover charge... read more

Went here with a friend for a drink on Memorial Day weekend. He is a combat veteran with a TBI (traumatic brain injury). We were responsible and attended by uber. We sat at the bar and talked only to each other. He was polite to the bartender while ordering a beer and asking for a spit cup. He also asked for darts but we didn't stay long enough to play. After his first beer the bartender refused to serve him anymore and told him to drink water. I told him I'd meet him outside and he calmly went and waited. When I asked her privately what he had done wrong she said, "He makes me uncomfortable." I tried to explain to her his situation but she wouldn't listen so I left and I won't be returning again. He sometimes talks a little slowly, he struggles with his memory, he walks with a limp, and has a tattoo on his forearm honoring his fallen comrades......and he can't even even buy a beer on Memorial Day weekend. Thanks Moriarty's for making an Iraq vet from your own city feel unwelcome. read more

Moriarty's is quite frankly, one of the most personality-rich bars in Lansing. With a party tradition going back to the early eighties, it is a great place to grab a bite, people watch, catch up with old friends. I went to school in E.L., learned to play darts there, and still try to get back there whenever I am in town-- can't go wrong. It isn't a "nightclub." If you don't fall in love with Mort's-- you don't like bars. read more

Live music but terrible discretion. Local hangout mostly for those who have nowhere else to go...townie bar, and they will love me for saying it, but newcomers will be shunned by the barkeep. read more

I was introduced to this place a few years ago and have now become a regular visitor. It is a very small and unsuspecting place. A perfect little hole in the wall! The place itself is a standard grungy bar atmosphere, but the food is AMAZING (especially the chili cheese fries) and the prices are even better! They have excellent live music most nights of the week and never charge covers. My boyfriend and I find that we usually end up buying an extra drink or two that would normally be eaten up by cover prices. Speaking of drinks - plenty of great prices for that too, and a good variety! This place also draws a LOT of regulars and the staff gets to know you pretty quickly, so after a while you start to make friends and feel like you fit right in. It's sort of like you are on the set of a modern day Cheers! One half of the bar is set up for darts, if you prefer that sort of thing. Me, I'm usually there for the music! If you are looking for a good place to hang out, catch some music and have a drink or two, this place is highly recommended! read more
