Really good bbq spot. They have a large menu but were out of a lot of things when we were there as it was really busy. Service was good and our drinks were always refilled. The Mac and cheese and the smash burger were great. The mashed potatoes were very plain.
Great experience all around at Meat BBQ. Went on a Friday night at 6pm and the restaurant was full, but we were sat right away. It's also very nice that despite the place being full, it wasn't loud. They don't play background music that drowns out the conversation. It felt more relaxing that a typical dinner spot. Service was attentive and quick. Apps arrived within 10-15min of ordering and entrees were another 15 minutes after that. The show stopper here is the BBQ. The smoked chicken wings are some of the best wings we've ever had. The BBQ nachos are packed with flavor with fresh toppings. Only thing we ordered that didn't meet expectations were the broccoli slaw. We will come back many more times.
I had dinner here while in town with coworkers and it was okay. I ordered the nachos, the sizing was pretty big. The nachos themselves were okay, but you could tell it had been sitting there for a bit while everyone else meals were being prepared. My fellow coworker told me her meal wasn't even warm anymore when she received it. I'd be willing to give this place another try with a smaller group and ordering a different item.
We discovered this home to BBQ heaven a decade or so ago and stop here whenever we're passing through Lansing during business hours. They have, in my experience, the best BBQ anywhere. The bark on the brisket and pulled pork is heaven sent and the meat is always moist,never dry. (Many BBQ places are hit or miss in this respect.) There isn't a need for sauce because the meat is that good, but... the sauce is fantastic too. We bought a bottle of the coffee based Black Magic to take home. Their cherry bomb sauce is also delicious and delivers some heat. Sides are outstanding as well. The new BBQ salad (not sure about the name choice as there's no BBQ in it) is refreshing and packs a surprising kick. I'm not sure if the heat comes from the balsamic vinaigrette or the pickled onions, but the mix of spice with fresh avocados, greens, tomatoes, and apples is a great choice for a side. Their Mac and cheese and deviled potato salad never disappoint, Today's coleslaw could have used more dressing and salt, but was still tasty. Service has been superb on every visit, and sitting amidst 80s metal band posters and tapestries takes me back to simpler times in life when the things that mattered most were family, friends, and music. Those are still at the top of my list, along with good food, and Meat delivers. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Enjoy!
The hostess was friendly, there was no real wait on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered the rodeo burger, smoked wings, fries, and potato salad for our sides. The burger was topped with tender Smokey brisket and the beef was of good quality. The fries were tasty n crispy. Ok so let me tell you we waited for a table for a long time I think maybe two hours. But I have no regrets. This place is amazing and the service is even better if that is possible. This is a MUST stop if you are in Michigan. I loved this place and we were 8 people. So let's get to the food it was really good we ordered ribs and brisket. It was really good and flavorful. For sides we got macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, and corn. The macaroni and cheese was really good, creamy and cheesy. The corn was really good and had flavor. My mom had the coleslaw and didn't like it. The cornbread was delicious and soft and airy. Now let's talk about this amazing great service, our waitress name was Brooke. So this place has a long wait and it was BUSY. Brooke was so nice and patient with us. She checked on us and because we waited so long she even gave us appetizers on the house. Brooke was very kind and she was genuine. Definitely a good time. The appetizers we had were really good, the nachos were so good and so were the wings. The wings were perfect flavorful, smoked and plump. The place is friendly and feels like a neighborhood hangout. This was the highlight of my trip and like I said, I will be back. I learned my lesson and next time we will come early plus we were a big group. The other option would be to order your food to go. read more
The atmosphere here is like walking into an Old Western bar that happens to sell bbq. The dark lighting very much has a candle light feel to it. I ordered the Logg Sampler Platter ($56). This comes with 4 meats, 4 sides, and 4 pieces of Cornbread. I got Pulled Pork, Brisket, Smoked Wings, and Ribs ($8 upcharge) for my meats. For the sides I got Mac N Cheese, Bbq Pit Beans, Mashed Potatoes, and Spicy Creamed Corn. Overall everything was good and well cooked. From best to least it was Ribs, Brisket, Smoked Wings, and then the Pulled Pork. I would get the ribs and brisket again, but probably pass on the wings and pulled pork. The Bbq beans were only okay, oddly enough as cold leftovers they were much better. The Mac N Cheese was okay, but I wouldn't get it again. The Mashed Potatoes were very good. The spicy Cream Corn was excellent, they weren't lying it has a spicy kick! Funny enough the best thing was the Cornbread. It was fantastic, some of the best I've had. The worst thing? The sauces. They all were not good at all. The most tolerable one is their regular sauce, still a c minus. The service was good, but I was asked how I was doing about a hundred times. Still everyone was friendly. Overall a 4 star review. Would I return? If I was in Lansing then Yes. It is quality bbq cooked by someone with skill. I just might bring my own bbq sauce. read more
Still amazing almost 10 years later! We split a sampler and have enough leftover for another dinner. We tried the brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, and jalapeno sausage along with fries - so good! - mac and cheese and pit beans. All excellent! Al the different sauces are so fun to try. read more

I stopped by here for lunch after getting local recommendations and seeing the reviews. I had a brief wait to be seated. I ordered the lean brisket with cornbread and 2 sides which were the macaroni and cheese and pit beans. The brisket comes naked, was made perfectly and was excellent. The macaroni and cheese was lumpy and average along with the pit beans tasting more like chili. The cornbread was fine. None of the 6 sauces available knocked it out of the park. The best one was probably the hot garlic. Flat top open seating with a full bar. Service was pleasant but uninspired. Cleaning the table tops between patrons were done haphazardly by slapping the food/debris on the tabletop with a towel onto the floor. No "thanks for coming in" by the unfocused employee by the hostess stand when exiting. Wifi password available. Competitive prices. Paid and limited street parking. Even though the lean brisket was great the rest of the sides, service and lack of cleanliness would not have me coming back. read more

OMG! What a fine! I got introduced to this place and I don't think I'll ever be able to forget it. I am so bummed that I don't live around here, because this would for sure be a staple. Honorable mention to the creamed corn and corn bread. Also the sauces are a must! I asked for the spiciest one and mixed it with a mild one and it was PERFECT. The pulled pork was super yummy. The service was great too! If you're considering going, you simply must. read more

Very good, pleasantly surprised with this place. Never been to Michigan and I would not have guessed they would have a good BBQ restaurant. It was very good and we liked the atmosphere. Located in "Old town " trendy area with nice shops and good food. read more

Went right at opening, so everything was fresh and fully available. The cream corn has a nice kick, fries are crispy, and the cornbread is buttery but could use honey. Mac and cheese is decent probably better with meat mixed in. Traditional BBQ stands out as the best option. Portions are generous for the price, so if you get an appetizer, expect to take half your entrée home. Overall, flavorful food with no dry or bland meats. read more

Holy brisket. We asked for fatty and they hooked us up! The flavor was outstanding. I'd come back just for this any day. Good Mac & cheese, which iMO is rare. Most mac isn't nearly cheesy enough or it's dry or tasteless or watery or the cheese is some plastic-y processed velveeta style nonsense... maybe that's your thing, but if so, maybe this Mac will change your mind! I like the corkscrew pasta instead of shells, too. Nice touch. Tasty cornbread. Wish we had ordered more to take home! Coleslaw was refreshing and tangy! We ordered the wings as well, which were a little spicy for this spice wuss, but totally delicious all the same. The eggrolls were the only miss for us, which is a pretty good ratio, I say! Geeky decor all over, super fun to look at. Walk around and check it all out! Big space, lots of seating, on a cute block with a fabulous coffee shop, a great nerdy store, and a soft serve shop around the corner! You could spend all day here having the foodie time of your life. We did ask our waiter if it was possible to order the pastrami a la carte (they serve a pastrami sandwich and my partner is a pastrami fiend!), but the kitchen said no for some reason... so we just have to come back to try that sandwich next time! Really loved this place. In town by myself and so sat at the bar. Service was great. Autumn the bartender was great with different recommendations as it was my first time in. Went with the meat plate: lean brisket, broccoli side, mashed potatoes and corn bread. All of it was great. The broccoli side was the main recommendation as a favorite side and it didn't disappoint. Meat was great especially with the mustard BBQ and coffee BBQ sauces. The space itself was very inviting. Punk aesthetic with music that brought me back to my late teens and early twenties. We had so much fun here with a group of five of us on a random Saturday. Get there early because it is clearly a popular place (deservedly so). Our food was fantastic... the ribs, brisket, nachos and sausage were amazing. Don't forget to ask about their special sauces - cherry Vernors and Asian BBQ were both of our favorites. The sides were great as well... BBQ beans and Mac and Cheese were our favorites, the coleslaw was not worth trying though. Be sure to walk around and check kit the amazing star wars artwork, the walls have so many amazing nuggets to look at. This was a great experience. We can't wait to eat here again. read more
I came here with a couple friends and we had an overall positive experience for lunch! The pulled pork was amazing: it was melt-in-your -mouth tender and delicious. The brisket (fatty cut), on the other hand, was much fattier than others I've ordered from other restaurants...so that was kind of disappointing. As for sides, the mac & cheese was good, but nothing extraordinary. Pretty run of the mill. I did enjoy the creamed corn, which had a bit of a kick and was rich, creamy, and delicious. The corn bread was baked perfectly and wasn't dry at all. Service was good, they gave us a new menu (which was a QR code on a sheet) because the one on our table was dirty. The ambiance was nice - the weather was nice enough for us to eat outside, which was a nice space for conversation and hanging out. read more
We went to Meat BBQ after a certain Vietnamese/BBQ place a couple of blocks away decided to reduce their opening hours and neither Yelp nor Google had updated the hours yet. We were a bit dejected after not having the opportunity to eat our first choice, but after going to Meat BBQ, we forgot all about it. Pork Belly Reuben ($14.95) - The sandwiches come with either fries or slaw - we went with the fries. These were normal, thinner, food service fries, crisped well, with a fluffy interior and generously seasoned with salt and pepper. The sandwich has a slice of fatty pork belly on top of a lean brisket, covered with a nice 1000 Island type sauce, and on top of a perfectly portioned amount of tangy sauerkraut. Everything is served on a crispy cheese crusted, upside down pumpernickel bun. The flavor and textures meld together perfectly. This was a great sandwich. Beef Brisket (Fatty) Meat Plate ($19.95) - This was a thick sliced piece, half consisting of perfectly juicy, tender, and fatty brisket, combined with a more lean, but still delicious brisket. This is some of the best brisket I've had in Michigan. Still, there are some things that could be improved - the smoke ring wasn't the best I've seen and the smokiness was a bit muted. The plate comes with a piece of corn bread and two sides. We chose the Mac and Cheese and the Spicy Cream Corn. The former is a decadently creamy and cheesy sauce mixed with cavatappi. The latter is a really nice peppery and spicy thick cream sauce with corn. The corn bread was cold to the touch - like it came straight out of the fridge. It was soft and moist and quite sweet. Not my favorite corn bread, but still a good complement. There are several sauces available at the table with a card explaining the flavor profile and ingredients. There are several more upon special request as well if you would like (including one that is extremely spicy). Our favorite was the Black Magic. The Vin #666 tastes quite comparable to an Eastern NC-style vinegar mop, possibly with a bit more sugar and a bit more of the acidity coming from hot sauce rather than apple cider vinegar. We were so impressed with the Vin #666 that we actually went back to Meat BBQ a couple of days later to try the pulled pork: Pulled Pork Meat Place ($17.95) - I was very impressed with the pulled pork - they pre-sauce the meat with just enough Vinn #666 to give additional moistness and flavor to the meat, just like how a place in NC would do it. There were fatty bits mixed up with leaner bits and a nice smoke ring - really the only thing missing is a bit of crispy pork skin for textural contrast, but that's hard to get outside of whole hog bbq. This is honestly the best pulled pork I've had outside of North Carolina. The sides this time were the BBQ Pit Beans and the Smoked Broccoli Salad. The beans are mixed with beef and aren't anything particularly special but delicious nonetheless. The broccoli salad has slightly smoky broccoli, shredded cheddar, tomato, onion, carrot, and sunflower seeds mixed in a slightly sweet mayo-like dressing. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Lansing. read more

This place was pretty good! The meat was really tasty, but I don't think I'm a Reuben fan. I feel like a real Reuben fan would've loved the Reuben I got. I think next time I'll get something a little less fatty. The bruschetta was like mini baked potatoes covered in chili. I'm definitely coming back, but I'll try other dishes because I felt like I just didn't order the right dishes for me. The servers there were extremely nice and the ambiance is like a backcountry cabin. 8/10. Great job y'all! read more
