    Ginger Carrot Bisque
    Chris S.

Wow! All of the Stars! Tavern 109 in Williamston is such a cool spot. It used to be a bank, and is now a quaint exposed brick, retro ambiance restaurant. I felt like I was in a movie with Johnny Depp playing John Dillinger, or that Al Capone was going to race down Main Street leaning out the window letting his "typewriter" lose, with a black and white cop car screaming up behind him. It just puts you in a different period. And the food! My goodness. We ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Pizza, Jalapeño Artichoke Dip and my wife got a side of the Ginger Carrot Bisque. Phenomenal, all of it. I don't know what I enjoyed the most. The pizza was a perfect 10" size, with incredible flavor and crunchy crust. They certainly do not skimp on toppings. The artichoke dip was insanely good! The naan bread was baked to perfection and sprinkled with a perfect amount of salt to complement the dip. The soup was a good as it sounds too! Service was top notch. We were seated immediately (around 9pm) and our waitress was very helpful. She made sure our drinks were topped off and kept us up to speed on the status of our food. We will absolutely be back and we will be recommending Tavern 109 to all of our family & friends.

Elizabeth was our very attentive server. We stopped in before a basketball game. What a gem. We ordered drinks, then placed our entree order. My husband had the homemade chicken noodle soup, which was seasoned perfectly. Very good. I started with the house salad with champagne vinaigrette. Salad was fine dressing was good. I had the shrimp and grits and he ordered the Cajun shrimp fettuccine. Both entrees included choice of salad or soup, unusual these days. Both entrees were hot and so delicious. The grits were creamy and cheesy. The dish had just a hint of spice. The Cajun shrimp was very good. Overall a very pleasant meal in a quiet, comfortable atmosphere.

Food was awesome. Ambience was welcoming. Service was praiseworthy! The only thing I can complain about were the directions provided by Yelp, which pointed us toward the wrong side of the road and light.

We love coming here when we are in the vicinity because of the great food and beer selection. (Our son and daughter-in-law used to bring us here when they went to grad school at MSU.) We stopped in today for a beer and they were out of almost every beer we like...on tap and bottled. Not everyone likes IPA's and Stouts. Lol. No red, blonde, wheat, Pilsner....we survived. We will stop in again for the food and hope for a broader beer selection.

What a great find! Heading home from Grand Rapids and searched for a place for dinner, and we found a winner! A solid drink menu, from scratch food, and wonderful service. We have added it to the list for places to go while on the road!

    Takeout $14 Grilled peach salad.

Takeout $14 Grilled peach salad. This had so much potential .... But it was pretty anticlimactic. The 4 thin slices of peach seemed to be an afterthought and barely made an impact compared to the flavor of the other toppings. The few bites of peach I did get were great but the rest was overpowered by the cheese and lacking anything special. This needs twice the peach slices if naming the salad after the fruit. Add $10 steak and this was a pretty disappointing $24 salad. Family ordered the truffle fries and those were amazing as usual!

I personally think it had been about 35 years since I'd seen anybody there. To be honest, not being from the area (I live in Troy, MI) when told where we were going to a Bar & Grill called Spag's I didn't know what to think. Well, it was perfect! We had our own room and were not rushed to leave after finishing lunch. The service was great, as was the food. The tables were consistently cleared, waitstaff very attentive; if you wanted to order a drink from the bar they didn't take long to get. We had plenty of room. There were rectangle tables along the wall so that all the memorabilia could be nicely displayed. I also liked that there were 8 seats at round tables. I don't like when places cram 10 seats. Not related to the restaurant, I'd like to add a bit more of why we were all gathered together. There were 4 generations of family from 3 different states. Jim had one surviving niece and was an Uncle of various generations to the rest of us. After 82 years, James W. Swartz remains were finally identified and returned home to be laid to rest with his parents. His parents never gave up hope that one day he would be identified and come home. He was only 18 when he signed up to serve. At that time WW2 had not begun. Jim was a prisoner of war at the Cabanatun Japanese POW Camp In 1942. He survived the unimaginable , inhumane & cruel 66 mile "Bataan Death March" in April of '42 to the Japanese POW camp. Unfortunately, his hand was cut during the march and because he received no medical care it became gangrene which was probably the major cause of his death. He passed away September '42 and was buried in mass grave # 434 with no type of identification attached. When the grave was exhumed in 1949, Jim's remains were classified nonrecoverable. Over the years the remains were moved to other sites, but still unidentifiable. Finally in November 2024 his family was told they identified his remains and he would be brought back home in April or May 2025. In closing, I'd like to thank Spag's for being so considerate to all of us at the luncheon. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stop in. If I know of someone that will be near there, I will recommend they stop in. Thank you, Trish Willey

Update: I am sorry…read moreto update everyone that Travis left EnVie. The new bartender leaves so much to be desired. Pretentious bartender who really really wants to be known for being a mixologist. Don't you dare ask to modify any of his ingenious cocktail creations. I've been to many many bars in my lifetime. Nice bars, hole in the walls, distilleries, hotel bars, outdoor bars, cute little trailer-wedding bars, speakeasies. You get my point. My standards are high but i'm down wherever too. this is the first time anyone has refused to modify a drink for me. and i'm not talking about changing everything. i'm talking about swapping out mezcal for gin (there are barely any gin cocktails anymore). i've been here three or four times since the new bartender-- and i don't even sit at the bar anymore. the only redeeming quality of the place is the chef(s?) who I feel really takes care of people and makes the food with love and care and excellence. the burgers and steak are literal perfection. Le sigh. Travis if you're reading this-- Mike and I miss you!! Management, please try to get him back! Give him a fat raise! anything! your restaurant is going downhill quickly because 1) Travis is gone 2) Inflexible pretentious guy took his place.

The restaurant is quaint but with sufficient seating to accommodate both small and medium sized groups. There is ample parking as it is located in a downtown district. The decor is simple modern, nice clean lines every where you look. Our waitress, along with those assisting her with food and drink were abundantly pleasant and welcoming. At one point the waitress prepared to offer me and my dining companions the drink specials and I jokingly asked her if she would "freestyle them" while I beatboxed. She admitted she was horrible but was down to try! We were both horrible but the exchange was fantastic and very personable! We appreciated her and her service throughout our evening. All of the cocktails we selected were well made with high quality liquors, no complaints there! The food. The food, the food was superb! We all enjoy the presentation of our dishes, beautiful and simple! Everything tasted well balanced and flavorful served in perfect portions. Our only complaint here was the pasta in the Cacio e Pepe. It was a little heavy and thick in texture but the flavors and the lump crab made up for it! The gluten free cake was shared by the table and enough for all to feel just the tiniest bit gluttonous! I look forward to returning to Envie to check out more of their menu and perhaps be able to have the same waitress.
