Great home cooking, with reasonable prices. The staff is wonderful. Daily specials are the way to go. Everything we had was awesome.

The food was very tasty. We both had a cup of beef vege soup which was quite yummie! We both had salads for lunch. I had the chef salad which was freaking amazing! I posted a picture at the end of this review. Each salad included a fluffy freshly baked roll. The only negative was the rolls didn't come with real butter, but instead some oil spread which was not ideal. I also had a piece of their blueberry pie which was amazingly not too sweet not "corn-starchy", which is so often the case. I can only imagine the rest of their food offerings are ample and great! The service was excellent, and the ambience was amazing! The entire restaurant was beautifully decorated for Halloween. The bathroom was clean and handicap assisted. Grilled walleye - perhaps the best I've ever had. Outstanding. Fresh made salad. The food here is excellent and the prices are very fair! I think everyone within 50 miles eats here. I'm a sucker for a wet burrito so if I see one on the menu, it's always in contention for my pick. My wife and I decided to give theirs a shot, both choosing the ground taco beef, and neither of us were overly excited with our choice in the end. It severely lacked red sauce and the meat itself was very bland; we just didn't get that flavorful wet burrito experience we were hoping for. Outside of that, our servers were very good and made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant itself was a pretty good size spot with plenty of seating; a little outdated on the decor but that's to be expected. I will say, the pieces of homemade pie they had sitting by the register way very tempting and I'm mad at myself for not getting one on the way out. read more

What a gem out on a beautiful side road! Very friendly staff, homey environment and great home cooked meals. They also serve cocktails and have a nice beer selection. I had a hot turkey sandwich and it was so good. All homemade, down to the lumps in the mashed potatoes! Reminded me of Thanksgiving leftovers at my Grandma's house. My husband had a Philly steak sandwich and breaded mushrooms and he loved them. The mushrooms look hand battered and tasted great. If you are traveling on 127 it is worth the 3 mile detour to eat here. We will definitely stop again. read more

Love this place where I live it's just a 10 min drive then where there but I reopened going there as a family gathering with grad parents. I recommend getting there chicken sand with with a coke and a side of coleslaw and ending with a hot fudge Sunday or there pies or there cookies with are all homemade which I love about that's why I love this place there's only one of a kind. 4 of us were at JJRUBYS on April 18,2024. Wehad appetizers, main courses and desserts. Were there for over 2 1/2hours enjoying our food and fellowship. What a find! Definitely will go back. While shopping in Alma with my mother, the shop owner suggested JJ Ruby's for a nice lunch. We had no idea what to expect. I probably would not have pulled in, if I was just driving by. The sign says "fine food and spirits" and the place was well kept, so I expected high prices. I was wrong. We were immediately welcomed and told to sit anywhere we liked. Our waitress, Cathy, was extremely delightful and very attentive. We asked to ice tea with a bowl of lemon. The last time we were out together the lemons (at another restaurant) were obviously old and slimy. These were obviously freshly cut, which was a pleasant surprise. We decided to split a turkey club wrap w/fries ($7.99) and chef salad ($7.99). When we stated that we were splitting the meals, Cathy offered to plate the salad separately. The food was very fresh. Best salad I had in a very long time. Mom enjoyed her wrap too. The fries were huge fresh fries that appeared homemade. It was too much food, so Mom ended up bringing the leftovers home for dinner. It would feed her and my father that night. When we were leaving, Cathy offered to provide to-go cups for our drinks. She then came back with full ice tea cups and more lemon. We live hours away and only drive past Ithaca a few times a year. Cathy gave us a paper menu and stated that the next time we are driving by, we can call ahead and they can have our order ready for us. I felt that Cathy went above and beyond throughout the experience. They obviously have the Disney philosophy on customer service...Do more than expected to make the experience exceptional. The only negative for the whole visit was that the bathroom was out of supplies. It was immediately fixed when I pointed it out. I made sure to ask for the owner and tell her how impressed I was with Cathy and the food. She clearly knew Cathy was a great representative for her business and was grateful for the feedback. First off, let me start by saying that the service here is top notch. Very welcoming, quick, and even funny at times. This certainly started things off on the right foot. Thanks for this. NO worries about your beverages going low either - Coffee and water were topped off frequently with a smile. I had the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich based on the server's personal recommendation. It was good. Some of the meat was dry and overcooked, but the abundance of mushrooms and onions, topped with the cheese made up for this. The accompanying coleslaw was tasty but extra soupy. This delighted my mother, but was a turnoff for my personal preference. The French Fries were served hot, and salted just right. Our table of four also ordered the BLT (2), bowl of chili (2), and a Rueben Sandwich. Let me address the BLT first: It was not good. The bacon was overcooked. And this is not a personal preference thing, it really was dry and overcooked to the point all you could taste was salt. There was also a single piece of iceberg lettuce, a large slice of tomato, and extra mayo. The Chili, while served hot with plenty of crackers to spare, was quite plane. It was more tomato than chili. All the ingredients were there, minus the chili powder. The Rueben sandwich, like the Philly Cheesesteak was a keeper. A generous portion of tender corned beef, topped with a nice compliment of sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. Recommend! I give the 3-star rating simply because while some of the the food was "OK" at best, the service and overall welcoming vibe for us out-of-towners made up for that. I do like eating local while traveling, which is why we stopped in. Sometimes you score big, other times you say "Eh!" This was an "Eh!" moment. We still left with a smile on our faces. read more

We found this little gem about 2 wks ago on our travels thru mid Michigan. It's about 45 minutes from home. The food is absolutely delicious! Last time I had the pan fried chicken and my husband had the fish. They were both excellent! We decided to split a strawberry shortcake even though we were both stuffed from their generous portions. Then we decided to splurge and take home a piece of coconut cream pie since the shortcake was SO good! SO glad we did! Everything is made on site. Today I had the french dip with added onions and my husband had the patty melt. I don't do fries and they let me substitute a cup of vegetable beef soup which was delicious! Beef was pot roast with big chunks of potatoes etc. Of course I got another piece of coconut cream pie to take home along with half of my sandwich. Our waitress was Emily and she was very attentive. Been coming here with co-workers for 14 years. Everything's been great, till the pandemic. New waitresses I guess. Orders were wrong, no refill on coffee, wrong coffee/ decaf or regular. Prices jumped $ 3.00 for the same breakfast we had been getting. Price increase, understandable, poor service, not, and this was the third time of this happening. So we tried the HEARTHSTONE OVEN, right in town Ithaca. Was so much better and they were even busier. The sour dough toast is a must, better than the over toasted/dry stuff we were used to at JJ Rubys. The owner at JJ's is a wonderful lady, but some of the staff not so much. So needless to say our group of 5-8 will be patronizing the HEARTHSTONE OVEN Restaurant from now on. read more
