The atmosphere here feels like a home meets a bakery and there just happens to be a restaurant inside. I ordered the Maple Bacon Burger ($14). A 1/3# patty, apple maple bacon jam, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and crispy onions, on a toasted butterhorn roll. This was an excellent burger, the beef was high quality and delicious. The bacon jam gave it a slighty sweet, yet savory taste. Everything merged together perfectly to create a burger I definitely want to eat again. I got applesauce with it that was very good. I got some Cinnamon Rolls to take home and they were fantastic. I also got a Raspberry Cream Cheese Roll. Basically raspberry instead of the cinnamon mixture and it works. Definitely a home run. The service was fantastic. Super friendly and helpful. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? Absolutely, this is worth the 90 minute drive. Both Cinnamon Rolls and Burgers deserve their spots on the best of lists. read more

My husband and my MIL came here for breakfast during our holiday visit. Service was friendly and the dishes were great with generous portions. I had the deluxe breakfast, my husband ordered the meat lover omelette and my MIL opted for biscuits with gravy and a side of scrambled eggs. Everything bite was lovely so we picked up 3 large cinnamon rolls to take home at the counter. There were 3 tipping options on the credit card terminal ranging from 20% to 30% on the total amount! I promptly selected the custom option and added my self-calculated amount based on a reasonable and respectable percentage on the pre-tax total of the dined-in portion. A few weeks ago, I left Midland, MI, on my way to Hillsdale, MI for an adoption ceremony and my temperature gauge read HOT! I nursed my car to the next exit and landed in Ithaca. I stopped to ask people where I should go for service. Hub's was suggested. I pulled in and Dylan/Dillon and his beautiful wife recommended going to Hearthstone Oven to grab some lunch, while they fixed my car. This restaurant was perfect, and even offered WiFi for this traveler. I enjoyed a delicious special of turkey/potato/stuffing for lunch. I was able to watch family friends adopt 2 precious little girls (Zoom)! The meal was so Yummy, the bathrooms were very clean and I was treated like family! Mary and the other servers were fabulous, kind, and ready to assist with anything I needed. Thank you God, Hearthstone Oven, Mary, and a special thank you to the kind couple that overheard my troubles! Stopped here for lunch in the middle of the day. As soon as we sat down, we got called out to a farm call and had to leave right away. The ladies were so nice and accommodating and told us they could box up an order for us to go in about 5 minutes. We got the Wednesday special (turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing). It was delicious! They have frozen entrees to go! I had to get that out there because I hadn't seen that tip in any of the other reviews. When we were being seated there was a couple standing in front of a display freezer stocking up on Mac & Cheese, Lasagne, Meatloaf, Chicken Pot Pie and more. She said that she always stocks up on the frozen items when she's visiting her mom. That's a testimonial. Beyond that I agree with 90% of the reviewers about everything else! The food is down-home good food. It tastes like it came out of grandma's kitchen. On the way out we grabbed cookies and the frozen entrees to take to the cabin up north. The staff is very friendly. Here's a tip: don't drive a trailer through the town to get to the restaurant. Take the side streets or you could be ticketed. It's the first time we've ever seen signs that say no trailers through town. The food is worth it! read more

This is a unique restaurant for sure. All the workers are family and the ladies all wear a head cover and a long dress. I was trying to figure out if it was Dutch or Amish, but the people I was with wouldn't let me ask the waitress. The food is decent. The bread is all home made, as I'm sure most the food is too. So I really liked the bread my sand which came on. They have a bakery here too, so I got 2 cookies for $0.79 each. It was really good. If you're in the middle of no where, eat here. While traveling to Northern Michigan, my husband and stopped here for lunch. It was a little out of the way from I69, but worth the short drive! We were greeted warmly by the staff and the restaurant was very clean and homey. They had a bakery display that made my eyes water looking at all the large rolls and muffins. I ordered a homemade potpie and my husband, a reuben sandwich. It seems the owners were a sort of "white amish" or Mennonite. The bread and buns used were all homemade yeast rolls and melted in your mouth! It was also pretty reasonably priced. If we are ever up that way again, we will stop in! read more

When you are in the middle of nowhere, this is a good place to stop. The food and baked goods are all homemade and the French toast is to die for. They make a buttery syrup in house and I took some home to share. Breakfast burrito is also very good. The biscuits and gravy fell flat though. It could be that I'm spoiled by the husband's homemade version, but the gravy was very thick and cool, not hot, and the biscuits seemed compacted and not fresh. I was SO SAD ABOUT IT. The service isn't unfriendly, but just more conservative. Overall everything is plain and straightforward, but not bad. It's not cuddly. I would definitely stop again, and next time I would take some baked goods with me that looked amazing behind the counter. read more

What a wonderful place. Lots to chose from on their menu. My family came for lunch and we ordered something different for all of us. You will not walk out of there hungry. I had the homemade chicken noodle soup and I wish I would of grabbed some outta that freezer cause it was so tasty I found my self wanting more the next day. Do not walk by the bakery section. This is a wonderful little place and the staff were all very nice. My wife and I ordered the Chicken pot pie and she said it was yummy I thought it was delicious. The cole slaw was probably the best I ever had. Very fresh. Our friend had the Reuben Sandwich and said it was very good. He also enjoyed the onion soup immensely. Like everyone else has said, the French toast and biscuits&gravy are amazing. Pretty sure they put cocaine in that syrup butter mix. You can also get both by ordering ala carte. Rather than rehashing, I would make one suggestion: tip based on what things should cost. For 2 breakfasts (coffee, French toast, biscuits and gravy), it was $14. Mennonite, Mennonite, Mennonite. There, I wanted to start by getting my quota out of the way. The Hearthstone Oven is a gem in a city that, frankly, doesn't have a whole lot to offer. You'll find the best breakfast and lunch in the entire city right in this unassuming bakery. While the food is absolutely out of this world, the service is a little lackluster. Oh, and let's not forget that the bakery is awesome also. Because all this stuff is the real deal, genuine, homemade variety. Let's focus on the "real" food though. My most recent visit was there for breakfast with my mom... I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits with some hashbrowns on a la carte. The gravy and biscuits... are to die for. Rich, creamy, luxurious.... the absolute best sausage gravy I've ever had in my entire life. They could have gotten away with rocks for the biscuits and it still would be awesome, but they didn't stop there. Light, fluffy, and buttery biscuits are smothered in this gift of food straight from the gates of Heaven. The hashbrowns on the side were... passing. Nothing nearly as great as the entree, but they did the trick. They were a bit oily for my tastes as there was a little pool left of oil on the plate once they were done. Let's move on to the decor. While there's nothing particularly wrong with it, I didn't find it the most welcoming or warm. Sarah Plain and Tall to the max. White walls, sparsely placed boring artwork... it all kind of felt like i was in a hospital cafeteria with a bakery display case. Service here matches the decor, it wasn't particularly warm, or welcoming, but it got the job done. It kinda felt like how I imagine it feels when you don't get along with your mother-in-law but she has to put on the nice face while you're in town visiting. Overall it was a decent experience with awesome food and service that could use a little bit of an upgrade. I'll definitely return, but it'll definitely be for the hearty meals at moderate prices and not because I like the feeling of being waited on by my yet-to-exist mother-in-law. read more

Food is the most reliable available in Ithaca. However, the Kitchen closes at 3:00. Or an hour before closing every day. The bakery is open to 4:00 but there is never much left. So, beware, if you get there at 3:05, you cannot order food off the menu. read more
