I remeber going to this place with my Grandpa, ofcourse he and the owner lnew each other. The food was great. Not too many years ago I would attend meetings with the owner. They rolled the wheel up and talked about the 600 days old cheese...gave us a quick tasting and then started the presentation on scrapping the cheese and turning the fresh made pasta in the wheel. They finished off a quick fresh cracked pepper. This dish is simply amazing and the price point blew me away at only 28 dollars. What a bargain. I may never be back as I rarely come to Michigan, but I will say this is a memorable meal. They definitely do not rush your experience, so expect a longer dining experience. The inside is a beautiful interior, and they finished the meal with a house made limoncello shot.

It was very hard to communicate with the server due to the noise. The actual menu is a lot smaller then what is shown on their website. Especially fish options. I had grouper tenders which were small and mostly breading. Not worth it. Fries were excellent. Tartar sauce appeared to be pure mayo, no sign of relish or lemon at all. Ketchup, mustard, and salt were the only condiments on the table, not sure if anything else was available, like cider vinegar or even pepper. It's a pub, you would think all that stuff to be automatic. Second night (9 pm Sunday) I tried to go elsewhere because of my previous night's experience, but not many other options. Most of Alma was already closed. Tonight there was no music playing, so I was able to have a conversation. I had the olive burger with steak fries, my son had boneless wings with Thai sauce and waffle fries. Everything was very good, and a good value for the money. And the servers have ALWAYS been great. But I've noticed the food starting to trend downhill. The calamari has always been well prepared, but last night was way overcooked. We were there for our anniversary. I ordered the Ravioli Formaggio and asked for the Lobster Bisque sauce instead of the Portobello Cream, (which they always do for us.) When it came, it had the Portobello sauce on it. The server gladly returned it to the kitchen to fix. She came back shortly and said that he was in process of making another, so he gave me that one. I thanked her and started eating, only to discover mushrooms under the ravioli. I pulled about 10 of them out. It was apparent that the kitchen had given me the same dish trying to switch out the sauce, and hadn't done a good job. I can deal with lazy, but lazy and sloppy is a bad combination. If you're going to try to lie to a customer, at least put some effort into it. If this had been a food allergy situation it could have turned out much worse for the diner as well as a lawsuit impacting every person who worked there. And kitchens that set their servers up to handle the feedback on the issue should be horse-whipped. Our server was terrific, so we in no way held her responsible. Also, take a close look at your check. The "suggested tip" percentages are way off. And I have notified the owner about it before. After the server offered to remove my dish from the bill, our total came to $64.66 (tax included.) The suggested tips start at 15% and showed $12.90 as the amount. Sorry, but basic math says 15% is $9.70. $12.90 is actually 19.995%. In similar fashion, the 20% amount actually came to 26.6%, and the 22% amount came out to 29.2%. I'm always a generous tipper, but I don't like being conned into it. For someone who doesn't want to take the time to tally the tip for themselves, you're getting stiffed. Take care of your server, but do so voluntarily. When I originally notified the owner about the percentage issue several weeks ago, he wrote back that he would "look into it with their card processor." Nothing has changed. Also, there is a sign at the door that there will be a 3% processing fee added to all credit and debit cards. Thankfully, they didn't add the fee to our debit card because that would violate a federal law. Credit cards, yes, but not debit. I think the processor handles that, but the sign is another red flag. Really used to love this place. But I think we're probably done. What a shame. By the way, when there was no response privately on Facebook, I posted this review. Rather than reach out to discuss it or try to retain a customer and make things right, their response was to block me. Lol. I guess that tells you everything you need to know.

I spoke with the manager and he said to come back in two weeks and they will switch to the summer menu and that it contains his favorite pasta dish. We started talking about the Pasta Alla Norcinia and I told him my relatives are from Norcia Umbria and that I've made it several times. I told him I use Italian sausage and the manager said that the chef uses actual wild boar sausage. He said the chef has amazing connections for ingredients like this. They also have a full time pastry chef on staff and all their deserts are home made. I was informed that the chocolate ganache cake has had the longest run on the menu and never seems to come off so I tried that. I waited over an hour for my pizza, and everyone at my table had completely finished eating before I received it. People who ordered pickup after me even got their pizzas first. When I asked for a manager, she came out yelling and arguing with me. She complained that she had homework to do after work, told me I was taking up her time, and repeatedly said things like, "What do you want me to do?" She even started yelling that "they can't fire me" because they don't have anyone to replace her. For how expensive the food is, this level of service was unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but a manager screaming at a customer instead of trying to resolve the problem is completely unprofessional. I will not be returning.
