The Cabin was a cozy spot to grab some dinner with friends while in town recently. It was pretty early so it wasn't busy, but I bet this place gets crowded for karaoke, live music, and Sunday Funday specials. The vibe inside is what you might expect--rustic and cabin-like. Our server was really sweet and gave us plenty of time to catch up and browse the menu. We started with an order of cabin sticks, which are cheese filled breadsticks. Their ranch is famous apparently (you can get a giant container of it to take home), and it was pretty tasty. I liked that the cabin sticks were cut into chunks so it was easy to share with the group. Nate and I got the classic pizza, with pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, onions, black olives, and mushrooms. Our food came out quickly and the pizza was completely covered with toppings! The crust was thicker than I typically prefer, but it was needed to hold up all those toppings. You've got the have the Cabin Stix!! Dipping one of those things in ranch is an out of body experience. This place is a CMU staple that's been around forever. Flavorful dough with just the right amount of chew, great sauce and the toppings were plentiful and delicious. Not the same old Cabin. The service was slow and took forever for food to come out. Food was not made as ordered and the bottom of grinder was burnt. The bathroom didn't have any soap in it. We did complain about the sandwich not being made right and got an "oh I'm sorry". Overall bad experience. It's a typical college bar, lots of graffiti everywhere. I was appalled yesterday at the service I was given at this establishment on a Monday night. We both order a tall tap pour, and two shots, they came out fine. Shot was under poured, as to be expected from a college bar, no big deal. We then order a 12" pepperoni pizza. The Server Checked up on us minutes after getting Our order. We then proceeded to sit there for 35 minutes with no checkup or anything. Completely oblivious to where she was at the entire time while we were waiting for our food. Four groups of people were in the bar including us. They had already finished eating or were not eating. The kitchen was silent the entire 35 minutes. We finished our beers in that time and proceeded to forget about the pizza, since it seemed our server did the same as the order was never checked up on the entire time I was there. We go to cash out our tab with the bartender and he says he can't cash me out and points to our server, "is that her". She is sitting at the end of the bar with a drink in front of her, TikTok scrolling. She then proceeds to say "I never sent the order through". As a patron, I should NOT be the one being attentive to the food I PAY for, that is a servers job. I have never felt so disregarded by a waiting staff ever. Hate to stiff people, but to be honest with the service I got it was deserved. The unprofessionalism I experienced was beyond what I could believe, as a fellow food service worker. Only reason I'll ever come back is to pick up an online order for a club grinder. read more

In town for a CMU basketball game and went to The Canbin for pre-game. The food was excellent, the only thing better was the service. Our waitress, Rachel, was charming, attentive and added significantly to the experience of The Cabin! Highly recommend!! read more

MIGHT be good if you're already drunk or stoned!! First off, we realized too late that it was a college bar and went in with an open mind.. but the graffiti that they allow all over the walls and ceiling was off putting!! Their bathrooms are not clearly marked and are gross and graffitied just like the rest of the bar!! There's a design that looks like the wonder woman symbol upside down and right side up for the men and women's bathroom... there's not enough booths and a ton of tables. I would've preferred a booth seat. The waitress comes. She's nice she's polite gets our order. We ordered a beer and a martini and they were good. We got the cabin chips and a pickle pizza. But our appetizer didn't come out till the pizza did!! which took forever.!!! The cabin chips are literal lays chips with bacon and cheese on them. Your standard stoner nachos you eat at 1 AM in your Dorm.. these chips were the only saving grace they were The only thing that had flavor !! The pickle pizza had no taste or sauce. We had to dump the ranch from the chips on it to get any sort of flavor !! P.s the ranch was the best part of this meal!!! The waitress kept checking in on us to the point of being obnoxious till we actually needed her! she never asked if we wanted more drinks, even though they were completely empty!! She wouldn't bring us our check or ask if we need a box for our food.. we could not find our waitress. Finally, we spot her she has joined what are the parties and was socializing with her friends instead of doing her job!!! I tried to go talk to the bartender nobody was there either!!! After a while the bartender came back, so I walked up and I said I've been waiting at least 20 minutes for our waitress to bring us our check. Can you get her to come serve our table we don't even know where she went. Oh wait, never mind she's right behind me socializing instead of doing her job!!" I do not agree with or condone, dining and dashing but if I did, I would've definitely diner dash on this meal ticket!! we paid in cash down to the literal last penny, and did not leave a tip and will not be back !!! read more

Our server was very unorganized and after not billing our table correctly tried putting everything on my tab even after she had mid billed people from my party that had already left. It's been a while since I've been to the cabin and not sure if I will return. Also very hard to get a drink from the bar as the bartender was clearly serving only the people she knew. Very very good! Only reason it's not a 5 star is because we didn't get out appetizer until after we got our pizza. The crust on the pizza is to die for and the cabin sticks were really good. Think of it as a bosco stick with extra flavor! Beers were pretty good too, just wish you could get the hop slam in a mug. Entertainment was great, the lady singing on stage was killing it! Stopped at the Cabin for a cold beer and something to eat after moving in our daughter at CMU. The pizza was very good, but our server Bethany was even better. She was very personable and being a student herself was able to answer some of our daughters questions and giving her some great pointers. Will definitely return on our next visit to town. The Cabin was a very cool atmosphere. It is for sure a college hang out spot. Even though it was a great college spot the restaurant itself was very clean. We ordered a medium Hawaiian pizza, cheese bread and two of their specialty drinks. The cheese bread was a huge portion! The bill totaled about $30 and we had leftovers for later. My only criticism is that the pizza and cheese bread was so greasy. The pizza itself tasted great with fresh toppings and great crust but left me feeling a little gross from all of the grease. I'm a returning alumni who graduated in 2010. The Cabin was a big staple of my life as an undergrad at CMU. My (awful) band played there freshmen year, and it was a nice place to kick back at and see local DJs and bands play in the large dining area. I also remember Midwest Fest (is that still a thing) rolling through there and Rubbles. Countless nights we'd spend in the outside seating area in front as people spilled out from the packed interior. I would get the pizza grinder or split a decent cheap pizza with friends. Going back as a 31 year old was pretty sobering (no put intended). We were there around 8:00 p.m. on a Friday evening (because I'm old now), and it wasn't that busy yet. I got a sub of some kind (can't remember, but it was good) and found that the prices hadn't changed much. I love that it still looks the same: a large, open cabin. With the scales of nostalgia falling from my eyes, I could see it more clearly. It's a perfectly fine, laid back place for older students and some townies to drink. But, I realize that the reason I would go there a lot as an undergrad was that it was close to campus and cheap. If you're looking for inexpensive but decent pizza and the kind of open design that lends itself to walking up to new people and mingling (in a non-clubby way), this is it. If you're now reaching your 30s, you'll want to head downtown and hit up something more cocktail-lounge-y. read more

It was late so we walked over to this place for some drinks and bread sticks. Cabin Sticks? I forget what they were called, but it's basically bread sticks with cheese in the middle, served with a side of ranch or marinara. It was comfortable and quiet since school wasn't back in session yet. No having to yell over crowds or noise or obnoxiously drunk college kids. Lots of randomness on the jukebox to keep things interesting. The wait staff was incredibly friendly. The drinks were delicious. Was in town checking out CMU for my daughter and we decided to try The Cabin for dinner. Loved the atmosphere of the place but when we first walked in we weren't sure if you just sat yourself or waited. We quickly figured out its just seat yourself. We grabbed a booth over by the stage area and the waitress came by fairly quickly. We just ordered some Pizza and I thought it was pretty good, a little light on the toppings though. Would have liked to have had a bit more meat on the pizza but for the price, couldn't really complain. The one thing I noticed about being in Mount Pleasant is the support for CMU. This place is no different. I can see if I was a student here this would be a nice place to hang out. read more

Very down to Earth atmosphere. Not terribly loud... although I could see where it could get too loud (acoustics). Had the Cabin Sticks. They were okay... but didn't really wow me. Cheese wasn't cheesy enough for my liking. For a signature appetizer... I expected better. The pizza? Outstanding! Sauce was spot on. Had the "All Meat" pizza. Toppings were good for the most part... ham wasn't as good as I wanted though. My only complaint? Too doughy. If I wanted Pan, then I would expect it. Whoa. This pizza is on another level. You have to get the cabin sticks. Perfectly crunchy, warm, and gooey. Absolutely delicious. The pizza is outstanding. Generous with the toppings. The dough is great. The best part is that they actually let the cheese get brown. It's cooked perfectly. The only reason I didn't get five stars was the service was a bit slow and not super friendly.
