French Onion Soup

Very few restaurants in Williamston are opened on Sundays in January. I called the RiverHouse and made a reservation. When we arrived, we discovered we had the whole place to ourselves. Nothing wrong with that. We sat next to the fireplace and really enjoyed speaking with Susan the owner/manager. I had one of their Bloody Mary's which was perfectly prepared. For our meals, D had the filet and said it was very good. I had the salmon, along with a bowl of French Onion Soup. Delicious. I understand they have a wonderful patio. If we are ever back in the area in the summer, you'll know where to find us.

I loved this place!! The food is so good and the staff is amazing. Irene was an amazing waitress and made sure to take care of us & Susan, the manager, was great too!

Wonderful meal. Caprese appetizer as fresh as can be. Deconstructed Chicken pot pie and Roasted Chicken...lovely as the view!

This new place has a lot of potential. It is really nice inside and has a great patio section outside with a gazebo, large grass lawn and a view of the Red Cedar river. The perfect place for a small intimate wedding maybe? The owners did a fantastic job remodeling. Currently the menu consist of only sandwiches and wraps with dinner options to come once a chef is hired. They have a full bar inside. In the front entrance the RiverHouse Inn has more of a coffee and tea house atmosphere. The three of us each had a portabello wrap sandwich. It was made with baby bella mushrooms, wrapped in a spinach tortilla and served with house made potato chips. It was very good and reasonably priced for $5.95. It is an easy drive from MSU; a great place to take your visiting parents (actually have them take you!). I'll be sure to check them out when I return at Christmas.

We're visiting town and found this place by driving by. The patio setting is absolutely beautiful. The food was very good and reasonably priced.

Pasta with roasted red pepper cream sauce and shrimp.

Wow! All of the Stars!…read more Tavern 109 in Williamston is such a cool spot. It used to be a bank, and is now a quaint exposed brick, retro ambiance restaurant. I felt like I was in a movie with Johnny Depp playing John Dillinger, or that Al Capone was going to race down Main Street leaning out the window letting his "typewriter" lose, with a black and white cop car screaming up behind him. It just puts you in a different period. And the food! My goodness. We ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Pizza, Jalapeño Artichoke Dip and my wife got a side of the Ginger Carrot Bisque. Phenomenal, all of it. I don't know what I enjoyed the most. The pizza was a perfect 10" size, with incredible flavor and crunchy crust. They certainly do not skimp on toppings. The artichoke dip was insanely good! The naan bread was baked to perfection and sprinkled with a perfect amount of salt to complement the dip. The soup was a good as it sounds too! Service was top notch. We were seated immediately (around 9pm) and our waitress was very helpful. She made sure our drinks were topped off and kept us up to speed on the status of our food. We will absolutely be back and we will be recommending Tavern 109 to all of our family & friends.

There was close free parking nearby, and the downtown is so sweet and easily navigable. We chose not to get drinks as we still had a bit of a drive home - with two cars now. He had a burger, and I got the shrimp & grits. Both were great :) The location is adorable, and I think there were signs that they can host events as well. It was like two locations side by side, but I got to see both by heading to the restroom. Would definitely enjoy dining here again if we were in the neighborhood.

I personally think it had been about 35 years since I'd seen anybody there. To be honest, not being from the area (I live in Troy, MI) when told where we were going to a Bar & Grill called Spag's I didn't know what to think. Well, it was perfect! We had our own room and were not rushed to leave after finishing lunch. The service was great, as was the food. The tables were consistently cleared, waitstaff very attentive; if you wanted to order a drink from the bar they didn't take long to get. We had plenty of room. There were rectangle tables along the wall so that all the memorabilia could be nicely displayed. I also liked that there were 8 seats at round tables. I don't like when places cram 10 seats. Not related to the restaurant, I'd like to add a bit more of why we were all gathered together. There were 4 generations of family from 3 different states. Jim had one surviving niece and was an Uncle of various generations to the rest of us. After 82 years, James W. Swartz remains were finally identified and returned home to be laid to rest with his parents. His parents never gave up hope that one day he would be identified and come home. He was only 18 when he signed up to serve. At that time WW2 had not begun. Jim was a prisoner of war at the Cabanatun Japanese POW Camp In 1942. He survived the unimaginable , inhumane & cruel 66 mile "Bataan Death March" in April of '42 to the Japanese POW camp. Unfortunately, his hand was cut during the march and because he received no medical care it became gangrene which was probably the major cause of his death. He passed away September '42 and was buried in mass grave # 434 with no type of identification attached. When the grave was exhumed in 1949, Jim's remains were classified nonrecoverable. Over the years the remains were moved to other sites, but still unidentifiable. Finally in November 2024 his family was told they identified his remains and he would be brought back home in April or May 2025. In closing, I'd like to thank Spag's for being so considerate to all of us at the luncheon. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stop in. If I know of someone that will be near there, I will recommend they stop in. Thank you, Trish Willey
