I had high expectations but found our visit to be hit & miss. First off, our wait was a quick 30minutes. They told us an hour but we checked back after 20 and we were told to stay close and were seated 10 minutes later. Our meal... The brisket was outstanding. You'll be asked to choose lean or fatty. The fatty was moist and well seasoned. Really exceptional! The meat mountain was huge and exactly as described in the menu. Not my cup of tea but our friend ate every bite. Mac and cheese was rich and delicious with a spicy kick. It comes with your choice of two meats. We chose double brisket. Yummy! The full rack of ribs was just ok. Our preference is baby backs and these were spare ribs. We've had more tender juicy ribs at Famous Dave's. Smoked wings were great. Smoky, crispy and juicy. The sides: creamed corn was unique and delicious but cold. When it was reheated at home it was great! The baked beans were a winner. The jalapeño coleslaw seems to have no dressing but the next day it was better. The cornbread was fine. Not dry but nothing special. We had high expectations for Meat and while we enjoyed ourselves, it's not top on our list for bbq. If you have time make the 20 minute drive to The Block in Pinckney. You need to eat here. This place is a mens paradise. When they gave me my food I seen Jesus come down from heaven singing lead vocals for lynard skynard. When I took my first bite 5 F-16s soared over, fireworks exploded, the star spangled banner blared, my taste buds round house kicked terrorists. After my initial experience here, we've gone back many many times & love it! I still don't order the ribs though. Love the nachos with pulled meat & lots of fresh jalepenos. The lean brisket is fantastic. Really good selection of sides. Their fried pickle chips are different than other places....good with a different sort of coating on them, kind of like corn meal? I like this BBQ joint, food has always been great, even pick it up takeout when I can, in Lansing for a conference. Pulled pork, nachos are my fav. It's trendy, enjoy the hard rock music they play, it's not over the top loud either. Various craft Michigan beers on tap doesn't hurt, It's worth the wait, which is 4 out 5 times. read more

One of our favorite places in Lansing. The name says it all--lots of options of both smoked meats and BBQ sauces. Everything we've tried has been excellent. Pickle Fries are awesome. And they make one of the best bloody marys I've had (and I've tried a few ;) ). The waitstaff is always friendly and attentive. Service is fast (once you're seated--there's often a wait). Good beer selection if you want a drink and bloody marys aren't your thing. read more

Was given a recommendation by my wife's friend to try Meat on a recent visit to Lansing. I am here to tell you it is one recommendation I am glad we took. From the old school decor to the fabulous food Meat is one of the best bbq joints I have ever eaten at. The joint was packed at 2 o'clock on a Saturday. We decided to eat at the bar. I ordered a Bloody Mary at it was one of the best I have ever had. I have been here twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed it both times. The restaurant has a unique, tough-guy bar atmosphere (fitting for its brand and cuisine). The food is very good and they always provide you with a TON of it. They have a pretty good beer selection as well. Only thing is, last time I went they started running out of food and had to turn people away. I'm not sure if this is something that happens often, though. The service was good and I would definitely go back. Plus, they gave me free stickers on my way out! read more

This place should be called "sides" instead of "meat" because the side dishes are outstanding. The meat? Not so much. During two visits, everyone in our party loved the mac and cheese, the baked beans, the fries, the cornbread and all the sides, but nobody had decent meat. The ribs were fatty and undercooked, the other meats were either tasteless or greasy. During both visits, and with our take-out order, we were given no sauces despite multiple requests. Don't know if the wings were as bad as they seemed or if it was just because we had no sauce. Cute place and nice staff though. Hope we just hit two bad nights. read more

We went there for lunch and had ribs as well as pulled pork. The pulled pork was good... but the ribs were superb! Sides were spicy cream corn as well as cobbler. These were great. Overall a very flavorful and filling meal. read more

This is the best place I think I've ever eaten at. I took my husband here for his birthday and the food was amazing. The double heifer was so good! The most memorable though was there drink, I believe it was something along the lines of "not your grandmas apple pie", this drink was incredible! It legitimately tasted like apple pie! My absolute favorite restaurant. Their beef brisket is my favorite standalone meat and their made to order Mac & Cheese allows for my single favorite entree of all-time (with 2x beef brisket). Their wings are absolutely incredible, sides are fantastic (my personal favorite is the jalapeño slaw). This is one of my new favorite lunch places in all of Lansing. When you enter, the decor can be a little scary, as the appearance of the is nice, with a heavy dose of Iron Maiden banners. But please, do not let that you, this place has it's own style and the food delivers! I tend to gravitate towards the Meatwich side of the menu, as it seems to provide the most value and the best layering of flavors possible. Meat offers 10 different Meatwiches, ranging from the classic chopped brisket to the Cartman. Where this menu really shines is from the Wolcott on down to the Cartman, honestly. With the Wolcott, you are provided your choice of meat (brisket, pulled pork, or double burger) topped with a sunnyside up egg, pepperjack cheese, cheddar cheese, and spicy mustard. Be side to grab from their 4-5 different homemade choices of BBQ sauces, ranging from a Georgia mustard, to the ever popular (and seasonal) cherry bomb. The sauces do a wonderful job of accentuating the flavors and tastes of any of the choices on the menu. For some extra fun (and if you're extra hungry) be sure to try the Cartman, which is a "double cheese burger, topped with extra 'Merican cheese, bacon and a sunny side egg, sandwiched between two sticky-sweet, caramelized honey buns." While this may sound unappetizing, the mix of flavors, combining sweet, with the other options, makes this one a winner! I recommend everyone try this one! Meat also provides some fun with different daily specials, ranging from today's Taco Tuesday, featuring fresh brisket, to other new Meatwiches not on the menu. As for the sides, I tend to prefer the Bleu Cheese Potato salad over the Mac and Cheese, but it's all personal preference. The Mac & cheese side is a little devoid of flavor to me--so I tend to mix in some BBQ sauce for a little extra spice. I'm more of a fan of the Meatwiches than just the meats alone, as I tend to like a little more smoke on my meat than they provide. However, as far as BBQ joints go, this one is tops in my book. I had been waiting to try this place after hearing so many good things about it, and was super excited to do so. While I am not mad that I took the time to eat there, I was thoroughly unimpressed. Pro: You do get a lot of food. I got the boss log, and it was massive. Easily got two meals out of it, which is always nice. But that was about it. Con: Picking apart the Log piece by piece and trying the meats individually to see what they tasted like I found pretty much all of them to be completely flavorless and dry. Backed up by trying my wife's standard plated version. The burger patty tasted pretty good, but Im not at a BBQ place for burgers. Con: Wait time. This isn't based on our specific wait time (30 minutes) but the others we saw. People who came in right after us were told it would be about 40 minutes and they were just getting seated when we left over and hour after we had sat down. And for no real apparent reason as tables sat open for extended periods of time. Con: Wait staff. Not the worst Ive ever seen, but not impressed. Took forever to get our check, took forever for them to notice my beer needed a refill. Pro/Con: Beer selection. Their beer selection is pretty good and they have a lot of choices. But all 4 things I at least took a drink of while there didn't quite taste right, almost watered down. Overall: Glad I tried it, but won't be disappointed if I dont make it back. read more

Hands-down the single greatest barbecue I've ever had in my life. Period. People kept raving about this place but it just didn't sound appealing. Then my GPS gave me wrong directions as I was trying to go to Olympic Broil Restaurant and I ended up at this place. Wow! Thank you, GPS. I ordered the sliced brisket which I highly, highly recommend. So tender that it falls apart as you pick it up. Today was my first visit, but it definitely won't be my last. Whoever is running this joint really knows what he or she is doing. This place is a true gem in Lansing. You could travel the entire world over and not find anything of this caliber. Pros: The food is so good! Personally I have only had the brisket sandwich options while dining here so I cannot comment on the other selections. Their Disco Fries are delicious and heavy, so share or you might end up taking your meal home. The food is great and the beer selection is amazing especially if you like craft beers. Cons: The atmosphere is a little dim and the wait-staff can be hit or miss as far as wait time and actual service. This place is phenomenal! My first time in Michigan and I needed to try some local spots and Meat fit the bill. We went later on a Sunday so they were out of ribs but everything that they had left was great. The portions are large and none of us were able to finish. My son got the double heifer and the brisket was so juicy and melted in his mouth. I had the meat fries and they were delicious.
