Decided on the $9 Fried Chicken Poutine and a $1.50 can of Canada Dry (if you're visiting Canada, you might as well go FULL CANADIAN). Added veggies and Sriracha sauce to really get a full meal going (it worked). Fries were crisp and chicken breaded well. She added just enough Sriracha to give the cheese a terrific kick. Not normally a fan of gravy, but all the ingredients really balanced each other out (although it was just gravy and fries at about the last two bites. So much poutine! I didn't go to the actual location. Luckily it was near the hotel we are staying at so my boyfriend walked and got it and brought it back to our hotel. It's in a kind of sketch area and it's a grab and go kind of place too. They don't have places to sit anyways so it worked out well. I was in Vancouver about a month and a half ago for a conference held at the Wall Centre. First of all, I'm a California boy, but I've been a big fan of poutine ever since tasting it for the first time in college. I'm not a poutine snob since I've never actually been to Montreal (my Quebec friends give me shit saying that I haven't had the 'real stuff' yet!). Anyway, Mean Poutine is a window-front a few blocks away from the hotel. I was hungry in between sessions and wanted a quick bite to eat, so this place was perfect. I ordered the fried chicken poutine since the lady at the window recommended it (it was the weekly special apparently). A pretty large order was handed to me in exchange for only $9! It could have easily filled me up and put me in a coma. Anyway, the poutine was pretty bomb. The curds were slightly melted, but still retained a squeakiness to it that I miss from fresh cheese curds in Wisconsin. The gravy was very savory and beefy--and so so so damn rich. Amazing! The only 'meh' part of this order of poutine was that the fries were a little bland and soggy. I ate some right at the window front because I was so hungry, but I saved some for later at the hotel--it was pretty much mush at that point. Would I recommend this place? Very much so! This is probably one of the best poutine places I've been too--definitely a good place to stop by if you are hitting up Granville! The food: I got the vegetarian poutine, which was amazing (I know, I know, how good can vegetarian poutine be--but I've heard it's just as comparable to the other options on the menu). Oh gahhh, YES. We got the fried chicken poutine and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The gravy is strategically poured in first so it coats the bottom of the box. Then comes the fries and the rest of your toppings... leaving your fries not drenched, slightly crunchy, and oh-so perfect! Ordered the philly cheese steak poutine one night while roaming Granville St. With friends. Good taste and generous toppings, gravy is not too salty unlike some other poutine places. The outside look of Mean Poutine looks more like a food truck than anything else. There is no seating, and you order through a window and receive a to-go box of poutiney goodness. They have such an amazing selection of poutine combinations imaginable ranging from philly cheesesteak to fried chicken ones. Since this was our first time in Vancouver, we opted for the classic. The classic poutine was huge and way too much for two girls (but of course we did finish)! The fries were nice n crispy and drenched in a perfect gravy -- not too salty and not too thick either. The cheese curds could have been chewier, but paired well with the gravy. It is a great order for those first-timers hesitant on trying poutine. What a fantastic poutine place! I had never been and somehow had never even seen this place during my nights out in the past. The staff, who to my understand were the owners, were incredibly friendly and masters of managing the throngs of bar-goers in line at 2:45 AM. When I got to the front, I asked for a recommendation as I wanted my first experience to be authentic.
