What a wonderful spot to grab different variations of Canada's national dish! This spot is perfect for poutine lovers and first-timers alike. I love that they have so many options and try to keep it as authentic as possible. It looks and tastes just like something you would find in Quebec! Not to mention they had steamies too, which is pretty hard to find! I ended up getting their smoked meat poutine which was delicious. Only thing I could critique is that the portions are a bit small, but it is a nice place to grab a treat for the beach.

tl;dr the poutine is equal parts bland and soggy; opt instead for the solid (if not standard) Montreal-style hot dogs Many people may consider poutine to be one of the most iconic foods in Canada, but this regional fast food is more commonly associated with the French-Canadian province of Quebec than British Columbia. As such, in Vancouver, dedicated poutine-eries are few and far between. However, La Belle Patate has been a popular fast-casual Quebecois greasy spoon in Downtown Vancouver for 15 years, known for the poutine and steamies (another, lesser-known Quebecois fast food item, also known as a Montreal-style hot dog). The self-seating is split between cushioned half-booths against the left wall and a shared wooden bar counter in the middle of the room. Every inch of mustard-yellow wall space is occupied, whether by mirrors, menu, posters, or sports memorabilia. In the summer, the garage door-style window is rolled all the way up. The extensive menu is sprawled in tiny, multicolored font across 5 flat screens above the kitchen counter. Rock & roll is juxtaposed between rap and pop. My partner and I arrived for an early dinner on a weekday, and we were the only customers at first; by the time we departed, a queue had begun to form. We opted for a small #2 (Smoked Meat Poutine) and a Steamie OBC. The poutine sported fatty, otherwise unremarkable meat cubes; thick, salt-forward gravy; not-quite-melted cheese curds; and saturated, Five Guys-esque wedge-cut fries that didn't seem like they were ever crispy. In contrast, the steamie delivered an altogether solid hot dog, between the tangy, crunchy coleslaw and the smoky, crispy bacon. Service was, well, serviceable. The cashier quickly took our order, but with only one cook, food took its time to hit the table. La Belle's poutine may have disappointed, but, for less than $15 total, the meal at least didn't hurt the wallet. Don't go out of your way to pay La Belle a visit, and if you find yourself there, focus on the steamies over the poutine.

Walking around Vancouver, it's easy to work up an appetite. We thought it'd be a good idea to look up a place to try poutine and La Belle Patate came up in our search. We decided to give it a shot and walked over to this small and lively location. There's a bit of seating in the area, but it is a tight space. We ordered a chicken poutine to share and that was the right call. We got a hot serving of poutine, and they did not spare any amount of toppings. We were loaded with a good amount of chicken and cheese curds to go with a nice, creamy gravy. The only thing (that I'm not sure can be fixed and is more of a personal preference) is that I'd love if the fries had a bit more crunch to them, but the flavor was good. The meal was heavy, but it was the perfect portion for two adults to share while checking out the city. This is a great spot to check out and try some poutine!

We were welcomed into the restaurant and seated immediately. They have a huge menu. There was seven of us and we all found something we did enjoy. The food was wonderful. We enjoyed every bite. Wish we lived close by because we would definitely be regulars. Happy 16th Birthday La Belle Patate. Restaurant is clean along with the restrooms.

Fantastic experience! Every time I am in Canada I have to have Poutine so as soon as we arrived I scoped out at place and La Belle Patate definitely hit the spot! Staff was extremely friendly and didn't rush us as we were looking through the extensive menu. We ended up choosing classic Poutine and the food came out super quickly despite the restaurant being pretty busy. The Poutine was absolutely amazing. The gravy was rich, creamy, and super delicious! The cheese curds were just firm enough so they didn't melt which is what I prefer. The atmosphere in here is very laid back and it appears to be a popular spot for locals. The neighborhood its in is very lively and we were so glad we stopped by here. If you are in the mood for authentic and great tasting Poutine, I highly recommend you come to La Belle Patate.

If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I absolutely would! When I booked my trip to Vancouver, my first search was for poutine as that was the one Canadian dish I knew I had to try. I debated between a few options, but ultimately landed on La Belle Patate. I walked from my hotel in downtown Vancouver, which was pleasant and very accessible. The neighborhood has a really cool, hipster vibe and this spot fits right in. Upon walking in I was pleasantly greeted with my favorite music (a rarity) late 90's rock/metal. I had previously studied the menu and one of the reasons I selected this spot was because they had a vegetarian poutine. I placed my order for a small vegetarian poutine and selected one of the few available seats. This restaurant is really small, so I imagine they do a lot of to-go orders. Thankfully it was only moderately busy when I was there and I was able to grab a spot at the bar looking out over the street- which added a fun people watching element! My order was brought to me within a few minutes, piping hot and daring me to dive in. The smell was amazing enough, but my first bite was pure pleasure. The fries were cooked well enough so that they could hold up to the gravy and toppings, but were not overdone by any means. I managed to try a part of a fry not smothered in the heavenly gravy, and can confirm the fries are delicious even on their own. Let's talk about the gravy! I was unsure how much depth of flavor there would be since it was vegetarian and they couldn't use the crutch of bones or animal fats. I was blown away with the smooth, velvety masterpiece that burst with umami. The cheese curds were another highlight, firm enough not to completely melt, but still providing the ooey-gooey cheese pull you crave. The mushrooms, onions and green bell pepper rounded out the dish and in my option, could not be improved. This was seriously one of the best dishes I've had in a long time- and one I will remember. Bravo!

As a non-Canadian, the poutine here was superb. The gravy and cheese curd had a lot of flavor, and I liked the smoked meat. Would come again if I visited Vancouver again.

To start off the staff were very friendly and helpful. The poutine was also quite delicious and I liked all the varieties they had. When I visited I got the buffalo chicken poutine and it was yummy. Would definitely recommend the poutine here

I came here last night and ordered the medium traditional poutine that comes with the classic fries, gravy, and cheese curds. The place is kinda divey and is more like a sports bar. The guy behind the counter who took my order was chill and funny, and my order came out pretty quickly. My poutine was magical, especially since I was actually in Canada and haven't found/know of a good poutine place where I live. The fries were crispy, the gravy was rich in flavor, and the cheese curds were perfectly salty and squidgy. I split my order with four people and we really should've gotten the large (or two orders lol).

Steamies, one on the left is more dressed with bacon

Come here for the poutine.. I am usually not a fan because most places serve up fries that will turn soggy after 5 minutes. La Belle Patate does it properly by double frying, creating a crust that holds up. Very tasty gravy too. I cannot say I like steamies though, give me a toasted bun and grilled wiener any day. I respect those that do go for these however, and grated cabbage and onions are a nice touch. Great for people watching if you get a counter seat at the front window.

Came here for dinner and tried the med smoked meat poutine ($14.5). Overall, found it very delicious! The cheese curds and gravy were good and mixed super well with the smoked meat they had. The fries were tasty and crispy as well and everything just mixed together super well. It was super delicious and filling and I wouldn't mind coming back for seconds!

When I was visiting Vancouver, I really wanted to try some authentic Canadian poutine since I had heard a lot about the dish. After doing some research online, I saw that many people suggested checking out La Belle Patate for some good poutine. While the store is on the smaller side, it wasn't crowded when I went and so we were able to easily find a seat here. For my dish, I decided to go with the Smoked Meat Poutine which contains pieces of Montreal smoked meat along with fries, cheese curds, and gravy. This was a great dish, as the smoked meat was tender and had a lot of flavor while they gave a good amount of gravy as well. The cheese curds were also well-done and the fries were pretty crispy too. The portions are pretty sizable here, so it's definitely enough for one person! If you want to check out poutine in Canada, this place is a solid choice!

All I want to say is delicious !!! The taste of the gravy is like heaven in your mouth! .... Also I am a fan of crispy fries and the fries were not soggy even with the gravy! Put it all together with the cheese and BOOM flavor explosion.

What a phenomenal location! In the summer, there's an outdoor seating area which is literally right by the water, and the view is gorgeous. And in cooler months, the restaurant interior is amazing, as they suspended a lot of vibrant, arresting neon signs from the ceiling, reminiscent of the downtown Tokyo alleyways and street scenes. Whoever did the interior design of this place, my hat's off to you! It's incredibly effective and eye-catching. Now for the food review....wow, it's super good. They specialize in skewers here, and you can get all sorts of shish kebab-like skewers, for a wide range of price points, too. But the dish that really blew my kid and I away was the grilled eggplant. I can't say enough good things about this dish. It was absolutely delicious, and we'd go back again for this dish alone. Our server was lovely and very patient in describing all the various skewers and plates. Oh, and I really liked the service-wear and pottery, too. Very authentic. When my kid and I dined here, the restaurant was fairly new and it didn't have its liquor license yet, but when I last passed here on my seawall walks, I noticed a sandwich board outside the door advertising its Happy Hour specials. So I assume they have their liquor license now. This a a great little restaurant with a great ambiance in a great area. What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood!

With the price of a pair of fried donut being over $6 these days, I get my fix here. Other things are standard, good but not outstanding. I really like having soy milk to drink instead of water. $18.88 is getting a little steep for a limited choice buffet with not too many meat choices.
