Dining room at Belgian Fries, Vancouver
    Bruce K.

I asked the Internet for the best poutine in Vancouver and it brought me here. After finding some ultra-convenient street parking for the Sprinter van, I was inside and smelling that delicious smell of fried foods. A quick study of the menu - 18 different poutines available plus hot dogs and sandwiches and burgers - I made my choice. Ten minutes later, I'm digging in to number 14, the "Smoked Beef" which is a Montreal-style smoked beef on top of classic poutine. And for those who don't know, poutine is Canada's gift to the world. French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. I was "good" and chose the medium because anything more than that would have been pure gluttony. The toppings? Perfect. The fries? Oddly done with a crisp outside and it seemed like underdone inside. Still, delicious and four stars good. The poutine went down well with a beer - is there a better combination than fries and beer? - and I was stuffed. Thanks, Belgian Fries! Montreal smoked beef poutine take out, gravy on the side
    Thu P.

It's possible because I got take-out, but even take-out fries shouldn't be this bad after only 10 minutes.. I got a medium Montreal smoked beef poutine to go. The pros: They separate the gravy from the fries and cheese in another container. They gave a lot of meat for the poutine, and the meat itself was really good--tender for a soft mouth. The gravy had good flavour. The portion is nice and large. However, this is where things go south. They didn't give enough gravy for me to coat every fry. In my opinion, the poutine was also lacking in cheese for the amount of fries. The fries themselves, the star of the dish, were hard and stale. It's as if the fries are days old, yet they seemingly made it fresh since it took a while to get. They were cardboard fries. I got this for myself as a treat, but it just ended up making me sadder with every bite. The ambiance inside is similar to a bar--very loud and sports play on the TV.

Montreal Meat & Sweet Potato, both regular size. 4 stars. Mon lunch 2021-12-27

Good place to cross poutine off our list on our recent visit to Vancouver! Good, basic dishes with filling meat/cheese toppings; big servings, too. 4 stars for our Montreal Meat and Sweet Potato poutine dishes. No wait on the Monday after Christmas at noon. This place was busy but there was enough space to eat indoors and be socially distanced. FYI, they make it very unclear that the Sweet Potato Poutine only comes in a regular size. The menu shows Small, Regular, and Large options, and they didn't say anything when I ordered the Small. When the order came out, they even called it a Small. I thought it was weird that it was the same size as my partner's Regular, until I specifically asked the girl at the counter.

    Dry, over fried potatoes.

Things only get worse here at Belgian Fries. Before I could at least eat the fries. Now they are dry, overfried tough potato sticks. The price for a medium order of crappy fries is $10 now which includes a mediocre dip which all seem to taste alike. The service is ok. Still the same young people just taking your order at the till. Atmosphere had not changed much. Same decor. Bathrooms have been renovated. Maybe I should just come to order beer and use the washroom becaude the food so far remains sub par drunk persons food.

Great spot to eat on Commercial Drive. There are lots of tables and a cute little patio on the side. Service friendly and helpful I had the brisket poutine, and my date had a chorizo poutine. We both ordered a medium and could not finish. It's very filling and tasty. The brisket was served with a side of BBQ sauce, which I appreciated. Delicious brisket and curds. I would like to return and bring my boys next time out. I know they'll love the variety.

A quick stop to get poutine on our way out of BC. Neighborhood street parking. They have lots of basic poutine options, but also have tons of specialty toppings to pick from including butter chicken, sausage and smoked meats, etc. Food came out in about ~10-15 min. Our large poutine with sausage and smoked meats came out to be around $18 and fed the two of us for lunch.

    Wrong order!

GAVE WRONG ORDER!! We ordered two poutines: beef brisket poutine and meat chilli poutine. They have gave a sandwich! We waited 15-20 minutes and was a bit upset since we were waiting in the cold outside . Tried calling them and it went directly to "call busy" and called a few times (no luck) We already left by the time we noticed because it was all packed up. We live a bit far and would not come back to wait for another poutine. Disappointed for not caring for details especially for take out orders. Wasted our money on something we don't want

    WAR FRIES - Vegetarian Option.

Strolled in here on Thursday night for a quick bite as the thought of poutine instantly made my stomach grumble! It was the first time I was there with a vegetarian, and while I was dreaming of their original classic poutine, we decided sharing one would be enough and we'd expand our horizons to try a vegetarian poutine. After scanning the board, I decided that we needed to try something totally different. I spotted "WAR FRIES" - an Indonesian twist on fries - peanut satay, mayonnaise (but of course? "Belgian") and chopped onions. The whole combination of mayo, peanut satay and onions was fabulous. Thinking about it right now has me salivating a little bit, just because the taste was so unique. Who would think to eat fries with satay on top!? It's like a cultural collision that I thought worked well. I guess my only disappointment was that it was not spicy and when I think of Indonesia, I think of SPICE, so grab a side of sliced up jalapenos for an extra flavour kick. The place is never that crowded so you'll always find seating. If you want to have a solid poutine in general, this was one of the original poutineries in Vancouver, so I feel like you cannot go wrong. I spotted they have a Happy Hour so if I'm ever in the neighbourhood after work, I will definitely be grabbing a beer and some poutine.

This is a nice casual sit down restaurant. They have several tv screens and show sports games (ex. World Cup soccer). It feels comfortable, and the service is friendly. You take a number machine that lights up when your order is ready. The prices are reasonable for the portions you get. I ordered the deep fried pickles to start. They were tasty but the batter could have been crispier. Then, I got the chili poutine, which was filling and ended up being two portions for me. At $9, that's very reasonable. However, the fries need to be crispier for my liking. Next time, I'd like to try the chorizo, bacon or chicken kebab options. They don't only have meat; vegetarian options are also available. There are so many poutine options that it's a bit overwhelming. A friend ordered the fish and chips and was satisfied with the portion and taste. The beer on tap is $4 a sleeve at happy hour and $5.50 afterwards. Wine is $5.50 at happy hour and $7 at regular times. I'd say this is a good spot to come to when you're craving greasier food and a casual welcoming atmosphere.

Casual spot. Their poutine was amazing. We had the beef brisket and the beef steak. Generous serving size, the small was very filling.

I went with my son. He had the burger and fries and I had the poutine with beef brisket. It was really awesome. Don't make any plans after eating the bb poutine. Beer was okay (house draft) next time I'll get the Granville lager

HUNNNYYYYY I love my fries nice and crispy and nice and crispy! If you want some good poutine in your local Commercial Dr. And you is craving for that poutine, this is the P L A C E! I mean, if you looking for that local munchie place too, nammsayinnnn!! Belgian fries is my go to poutine place because of how much gravy they smother their fries. So GENEROUS!!

Turns out War Fries are actually Dutch. Regardless their are not double fried like the way the Belgians or Dutch do it.

Next time I'll shy away from the paneer and try one of their signature burgers instead! We shared a Rosy Rose Sharbat refresher to drink, which was salty, unique and delicious. What I love about Odd Burgers burgers is if you put it in front of me and told me it was a meat burger I wouldn't think twice. Their patty's are flavourful and the texture is on point. It was finally time to try it out. Went to the Vancouver Auto Show first, where I walked around for three hours & got real hungry. Walked over with two mates from Waterfront to Chinatown - a 20 minute walk. This area is iconic & sad at the same time. I never park my car in this area. See my Gastown / Chinatown reviews for more tips. It's not the easiest of areas on the senses. In fact, it's unnerving. Ok now that you've been warned, let's talk about this restaurant & the food. Limited seating available & I noticed lots of online orders for pick-up coming through. I can confirm, the best smashburgers are right here = definitely in my top two category. I never get two patties, but I went with the special - Big Morty Burger - pickles, cheese, Mortadella, crispy onions, pistachio & bbq sauce & two patties. I was glad the patties were thin. I completely destroyed this burger = yes the taste was that good. I actually can't wait to get back here! Hot tip alert - you might get here & think you're good to go with only three people in line. Don't be fooled. Several online orders before us, were being worked on first. We waited 25mins for our burgers after ordering them - but it was worth it. It leans more on the thinner, slightly drier side, so it really depends on what style you prefer. I ordered the double cheeseburger combo with seasoned fries and a drink. The fries were solid and well-seasoned, and overall the meal hit the spot taste-wise. That said, the total came to about $27 after tip, which felt a bit steep for what you get--especially considering the minimal service. It's more of a self-serve setup where you order and pay upfront. There might be a bit of MSG in the mix (tastes like a mild amount), which could explain why the flavor stands out. Honestly, this might be one of the best-tasting smash-style burgers in town. But between the price, portion, and overall experience, it's not somewhere I'd likely return to.
