Poutine with smoked meat
Mag T.

The most delicious fries!! Portions are huge. The poutine was smoking hot and delicious. Unfortunately didn't have room for any ice cream. Very sweet employees and owner.

Large classic poutine!

Magnifique!! My husband and I learned of Annys Dairy Bar from a French Canadian we happened to sit next to at a brewery. We loved Annys poutine, great fries, tasty gravy and big cheese curds. The sizing and value is great! We shared a large classic poutine and it came out so fresh and piping hot! Just how I like my poutine. I've had poutine tons in Montreal and Quebec City and I feel like we transported straight to Quebec! We also got a maple twist soft serve ice cream and I was so delish and not too sweet! I can't wait to try more on Annys menu! Highly recommend if you're a poutine lover, need a smoked meat sando or a steamee, head to New West to Annys!

Poutine was delicious. It seemed as though this humble ice cream shop is most frequented for its poutine! The service was also excellent. The customers ranged from young teens to families and older guests. Overall, Anny's Dairy Bar is a hit :)

Toujours une bonne expérience! Enjoyed poutine that was heavenly and split the loaded hot dog and the Montreal smoked meat sandwich. Had to leave space for maple twist cones so poutine leftovers it was! Place was busy. Service was quick and friendly. Love this place!

Food:4/5 - we came here specifically for the maple syrup swirl soft ice cream. There wasn't a lot of maple syrup but the soft ice cream was creamy and tasty. Service: 5/5 - server was friendly and nice Ambiance: 4/5 - nice ambiance. There is seating inside and outside.

Ben là là THIS POUTINE! The home made french fries, squeaky cheese curds and a well balanced gravy. All come together to make the perfect Québécois poutine. Merci Anny!

Heard about the really good poutine and maple swirl ice cream. First of all, it's a cute place and the staff was welcoming and nice (possibly was Anny?!?) Street parking right in front of the shop. At first it was slow but quickly became a bustling shop filled with customers. -poutine with smoked meat: Fresh homemade fries, came out warm with good quality cheese curds and gravy. Smoked meat was a unique addition. They have regular and large sizes. The regular is a filling amount even when shared with 2. Must try! -maple swirl ice cream: light maple flavor in my opinion but still delicious! Cash or debit payment only!

I've heard good things about the poutine here and happy to report, the rumors are in fact true! Perfect fries, gravy and cheese ratio and not overly salty. We also got a smoked meat sandwich but the poutine definitely was the star of the show. And while you're out there, might as well finish strong with their maple swirl ice cream cone.

I'd been itching to try out the poutine at Anny's Dairy Bar in New Westminster and I finally got around to it! My daughter and I shared a large order of Classic Poutine and it was awesome! The gravy is sooooo good, and she doesn't skimp on the gravy. It was drenched in gravy. So happy too, to know that it's a Vegetarian gravy. Can't wait to go back and have it again! Anny also serves a wonderful soft serve ice cream with maple butter injected into the ice cream. It wasn't available when we were there but it should be there by now! Service: Good Parking: Paid parking on the street Location: 722 6th St., New Westminster

LOVE this restaurant!! Why didn't I go here years earlier?!?!? I came here for their famous poutine and icecream. Due to the pandemic customers ordered takeout and either left the restaurant or ate at its entrance as they got some stools and chairs. Here was my order: one large poutine with smoke meat and a small maple twist cone. Both items were the best ones that I couldn't find elsewhere!! Their poutine got lots of gravy, fresh cheese and big pieces of smoke meat. Of course some people might say no that they thought the poutines in Montreal were the best. However, think about it!!! We live in Vancouver. We can't always go eat poutines in Montreal, so this would be the best that you could find and get here in Vancouver. Agree?! When I had the first bite of the maple twist cone, oh my goodness! It was so smooth and soft that it tasted so darn good with the maple syrup. I would highly recommend others to come here and try their icecream and poutines. Don't think about losing weight or worrying about eating all these junk food. JUST ENJOY THEM! You don't eat them all the time. Just once in a while or just enjoy them once in your life time!

Poutine. Montreal smoked meat sandwiches. Steamed hot dogs. Maple twist soft serve. What is not to like here?! There are hidden gems all over New West and this spot is definitely one of them. There is nothing fancy about this place and no reason there needs to be. There are a handful of tables and a tv to keep you company, but other than that it's all about the food options. If they had a food truck, I'd imagine they'd be one of the busiest at any event. You really can't go wrong with any of their options. The poutine is fantastic with its generous portion and crispy fries. Montreal style steamed hot dogs are simple and delicious. But let's get to the heart of it all.. the soft serve ice cream. It's so good. Soft serve ice cream with a built in maple syrup drizzle. There really is nothing like it. The staff is always pleasant and the space is inviting. I always look forward to a visit.

Note: This restaurant is CASH ONLY. I ordered their poutine with smoked meat and, being one of my first exposures to poutine, it exceeded all of my expectations. The cheese curds were squeaky and the curds nestled inside melted beautifully to create a ooey gooey experience. The fries were soaked thoroughly by the gravy yet still crispy enough and it was all complemented by the montreal smoked meat. The portions were extremely generous and this single order constituted a meal for me with ample leftovers for when the midnight hunger struck. To round it out, Anny's Dairy Bar had wonderfully friendly staff.

The first time we tried to hit up Anny's Dairy Bar was to try their maple twist soft serve. Sadly, their machine wasn't open for the season yet. Puzzling that their soft serve isn't offered year round. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 1:30pm). It's a small spot but there was a continuous stream of people coming in. It's run by a French woman who does it all. You can even buy cheese curds and real Quebecois maple syrup! The menu consists of dessert, a la carte and combos. Basically, steamie hot dogs, poutine, smoked meat sandwiches and soft serve. - Smoked meat sandwich ($8.25) - if you've never been to Montreal, then this will suffice. Anny's version is okay but wow is it ever a small portion. I'd skip it and try the poutine next time. - Maple twist soft serve ($4.75 large) - this is what we came here for. Vanilla soft serve had a pleasant, slightly thicker texture. The stream of maple butter is tasty but we both wanted more of it. Once you've licked through the first layer, you're left with just vanilla. Decent but stick to their soft serve offerings.

However, we really enjoy the food and coziness of the room so we have continued to make Henry's one of our regular dining experiences. We were going to make reservations for later this month when I noticed a line on their website saying that a 20% gratuity had been added to the bill. I thought that maybe it was a line that had been added on because of New Year's Eve or at that the prices on the menu now reflected the 20% gratuity and no further tipping would be required. My husband sent an email to Henry's asking them to clarify what the policy was. We received a response from Jasmine "20% will be add on. It does not refer only to groups but also to each individual consumer". Sadly, we will not be going to Henry's anymore. The food is very good but the prices are already very high. We walked into the restaurant without any customers. A server seated us right away. Her service was great knowing that it was our first time to eat here and letting us know what was special and what we should try. We ordered mussels with white wine, tomatoes and herbs as appetizers and our main dishes were Penne Alfredo and Linguine Pescatora. Penne Alfredo was just a simple dish of penne with white creamy sauce and Parmesan cheese, but OMG! It was extraordinarily delicious! Chef Henry could cook this simple dish so well that I could 100% guarantee it is hard to find such a good simple dish in Greater Vancouver. Linguine Pescatora was full of seafood (shrimps, mussels, clams, scallops, and calamari) in a light spicy tomato sauce. The seafood was fresh (not frozen ones) and the texture of linguine was firm and chewy. Everything was irresistible. We would love to visit this restaurant and try other dishes in the near future. It was worth a trip to come all the way to Port Moody and eat the pasta here. (This pasta restaurant was originally located in Vancouver West.).

But what really sets it apart is the people. Every single person we interacted with, from our servers to the management team, was genuinely kind, attentive, and made us feel like regulars by day two. The food? Consistently incredible. Not a single miss across four days, which feels almost suspicious (in the best way). The portions are generous without being overwhelming, and every plate comes out looking like it belongs on a magazine cover. You can tell there's real care behind what they're doing. A special shoutout to Leah, the manager, who somehow manages to be both incredibly professional and effortlessly personable. She runs a tight ship but still makes time to connect, which doesn't go unnoticed. Tucked in Richmond's industrial area, this inconspicuous two-story establishment has an exquisite private dining area upstairs open & an open kitchen concept downstairs with stunning high ceiling dining room where you can witness the culinary action! Their most recent 'Festive Fusion' menu includes seasonal gems like squash, chanterelles, and sunchoke. Ingredients that have the magic of making one feel immediately warm & fuzzy inside. I love the way the team here takes elements of Asian flavours & reimagine them in fascinating forms, especially so in the Duck Confit dish. The way they elevated Cantonese Curry really took me by surprise, transforming this Hong Kong staple into a velvety, foamy veloute and laid it on top of duck-filled ravioli. A play on this French classic with splashes of Chinese cuisine, a homage to the roots of both chefs' backgrounds. This is merely a little snippet of the level of creativity and innovation this menu carries. The dessert ended up being my favourite dish of the evening, even though I'm usually much more of a savoury person! Perhaps it was because of the way that it worked so well as a finale to this exceptional dining experience. This sweet creation is made with a chocolatey Japanese firm style of ganache, Namelaka, tart cherries, layered between a crunchy, delicate tuile. All paired alongside slices of candied ginger on top of a scoop of tea-infused ice cream. The sour cherries balanced brilliantly with the notes of cocoa. Both the textures & flavours contrast impeccably with every bite. This is definitely a great spot for those looking to celebrate the end of the year on a special note. Finally found out why...bec they only have space for a few people. Downstairs only has seating for maybe 20 pax plus a big table upstairs for 10 for private dining ( i was told). Foodwise, it wasnt what to expect for a french-asian fusion. The place is boasting about how their 2 asian chefs are french trained but i had not tasted anything to impress me. French cooking is all about the sauces. How the sauce brings out the flavours of dishes and takes it to new heights and gives the consumer a glimpse of both the fusion cultures. This one was more asian taste and french presentation only. Tried the prawn toast ( average) its a play on cant prawn toast..with shrimp puree laid on top of a french cracker. Dish was not fried at all and lacked shrimp flavours. Next was the shredded chicken salad with wasabi notes and served with salsa and served on yet again a french sounding french cracker. Come on, doing this does not make it a french fusion. It look like french canapés but taste was asian. The scallops with steamed spinach and pearl potatoes were excellent. In this dish, french sauces were accentuated. It was served with lemon sauce which brought the dish its french fusion. Everything was perfectly cooked. The main dish was striploin with char siu bbq sauce. ( the worst dish of the night)! All the flavours were off. For those who dont know, char siu sauce is chinese bbq sauce used for roasted pork. Its supposed to he sweet and tangy and smoky with hints of honey and maltose. When this was used on the steak, it totally killed the flavours of the seared steak. No more smokiness and beef flavours. All you taste is a weird sugary aftertaste. Think ketshup on steak almost same concept. Nothing french or French-asian about this whatsoever. The dessert was by far the next best dish. Delicate, smooth, and creamy choco mousse with mandarins and sesame crackers. The texture and flavour profile for this dish was excellent. But again, nothing french about this and no fusion. Total let down for an establishments that prides itself for french-asian fusion. Dine out should be showcasing what you got to offer and educating diners about your cuisine, hoping they would come back Whats funny is that they want to market themselves as "high end" ... the presentation looks high end, but the taste and after sales service is not. When the server asked me, how my main was, i told her the truth. She said she will speak to the manager/chef abt it. But at that moment, nothing was done abt it to rectify the situation. Any high end place wouldve immediately sent the chef or manager to talk to you and fix the problem. But here, they simply shrugged it off and even told me we hoped you come back and give us another try!? Seriously? I will not repeat. Many more places to spend you hard earned money. You want to impress on the first try...and leave a lasting memory and impression. not a bad taste in the mouth. They did have some good points as ive mentioned, but more bad than good.

However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. You'll find some classic dishes but less heavy on the salt and grease, perfect for myself and the party I was dining with. I ordered the 5 course meal which was a fantastic deal for $65. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! I loved the chowder as I especially like corn. The portion was also perfect considering I had many courses coming afterwards. Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. If I do not wish to drive out for fancy food, I know I can rely on the food at Shoestring café. As it is a family run business, there is only one person managing the front and I think they do a pretty good job at juggling all the duties of a host, server, and table busser! Hits and misses for the mains. While the pasta and sauce were great, we wish the seafood were panfried or something to give it a bit more texture. The duck was well done but not tough (we generally like medium rare) though we were confused by why the skin was served down as crispy skin is always a plus for duck breasts. I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes but theirs was not overly heavy and buttery, which I really appreciated and enjoyed. This reminds me of Asian western food but they were tasty and the ambience was cozy - a local neighbourhood spot.
