Second time I came here during the day when it was empty and just one lady on the counter but it took very long for us to get 3 burgers. I've been to Vera's Burger Shack at YVR plenty of times and figured I'd give the Vera's Burger Shack on Davie Street location a shot when I spotted it (or rather, didn't spot it) across the street. Calling the signage bad would be generous,I literally walked right past the place because there's barely any indication it exists. For a burger joint on a busy street, you'd think they'd want people to actually find the door. Ordered a burger, fries, and a milkshake. The burger and fries showed up in reasonable time. The milkshake? Apparently it had to be churned by hand from a cow in the back, because it didn't arrive until I was halfway through my meal. Nothing says "classic burger experience" like washing down your last few bites with what was supposed to come at the start. Thought maybe it was a one-off. Nope. Took the kids a couple of weeks later, same circus, different day. Milkshakes showed up halfway through the meals again. If you're going to charge milkshake prices, at least serve them when they're meant to be enjoyed. And while we're at it, can someone explain the suggested tip math? It's completely unclear whether the percentage is calculated on the pre-tax total or after tax. Transparency shouldn't be this complicated. Haven't been here in a while but was thinking about it as I had recently been to Bin 4. Came during covid a couple times as there weren't many places open late. First time the place was pretty empty and Celebrity was still closed so it was pretty quiet on the street. The second time, the covid ban on gatherings had just been lifted so the street was crowded with people. Both times I had the Canuck with onion rings. Hey I'm Canadian and a Canucks fan. Been eating here for years. Service is top notch. They are always friendly and remember my name and just how I like my burger, even if I take a break for several months. Has a classic burger joint atmosphere. The person who complained about waiting 20 minutes, well you know what? It usually takes at least 20 minutes if not 30 when they're busy, and that's okay! This is not "fast food", this is quality, and that's worth waiting for. My girlfriend and i waited for about 20 minutes for one burger, fries and a milkshake. We were the only customers in the store at the time. There were only two employees working at the time and they seemed to be more focused on talking to each other rather than preparing our food. The front counter lady with black hair, a pony tail and curly hair did not wash her hands and started preparing the milkshake by scooping the ice cream with a spoon and getting it on the cup with her finger. Not much else is better than getting your greedy mitts on a wrapped up bundle of warm deliciousness, like what an alluring aroma. The customization options for burger toppings is the best part; I like mine loaded (and I mean LOADED!) with Pickles and Banana Peppers. For me, the salted taste of briny things is the perfect foil to the richness. I haven't eaten the fries in a while, but that's personal choice, I do remember them being better than average. Also, they have deep fried Jalapeno pieces that are incredible. I only eat here during lunch and the service is always efficient and polite. After a day of running all around Vancouver before a meeting, I was really craving a burger. A really good burger. A spectacular and indulgent burger. Yelp saves me in these situations, so I did a search and headed over to Vera's. Parking was really easy to find on the street. (Side note: I love parking in Vancouver because it is so easy to do with credit cards. The flashing green traffic lights I still don't understand...) I got a little nervous about the outside because the awning is ostentatious and still doesn't really stand out compared to what is next to it, but then I went inside. With hockey playing on four screens, this feels like a very Canadian way of eating a burger, but somehow it doesn't feel too sports-bar-like. Clean and open, it is easy to read the menus and order. The cashier was very friendly and told me she would bring the food to me. I ordered sweet potato fries and they were perfect; both crispy and hot. This is a rarity for sweet potato fries, which I can never figure out. If they have good breading, they aren't hot; if they are hot, they don't taste good. Somehow, Vera's pulled it off. The burger was also great. I ordered the works and pulled a few things off because it was so big. A very sweet, gruff-voiced attendant (possibly the owner) checked on me to see if they needed to fix the order, although it was perfect. He checked on me at the end, too. I haven't been to a Vera's in ages and Wow!!!, what a pleasant surprise. Expanded menu with Burgers that have pre-assigned toppings and sauces. Which is a better method than having customers pick their toppings and sauces which really slows down the line-up like what happens at a Harvey's. I had the G-Money Burger which was Big. 2 patties with fried mushrooms & fried onions with cheese and special sauce. Very Delicious burger. & I had totally forgotten how good their French Fries are. Fresh Cut & Crispy Golden Brown with the right texture. Better fries than any fast food franchise. Even better than fries at McD. Will have to try the poutine next time. Service was average. Yep, here is Vancouver's answer to SF's Castro, LA's WeHo and Chicago's Boystown. Turkey. BBQ Chicken. Oh yes, and beef. Jamie ordered the daily special, the C$9.99 Canuck Burger, which is a bacon cheeseburger that comes with onion rings and a regular drink (see photo). I had the C$6.99 Lamb Burger that required me to combo it up with a side of fries and a regular drink for an extra C$3.99 (see photo). Yeah, required. It was all well and good but honestly, nothing that exceptional. I like the texture and flavor of a hand-formed patty, but the patties here unfortunately taste like they've been pre-packaged and refrigerated. Sigh. And what a is gayborhood without a great burger place. Where else do mutually consenting adults with large biceps go between rounds of fruity cocktails at the local fern bar? But then again, Vera's is part of a local chain, so maybe the burger gaydar is only at half-mast. Very professional.... Horrible place!! I was there a little while ago with my family for my daughters birthday. Read so many reviews about this place and thought it seemed amazing. As soon as we came into the restaurant we were not greeted. We waited for about 15 minutes before we actually got acknowledged. We shook it off and ordered our food. My daughters burger had a hair in it so we told our server who grabbed the manager, Victor. He gave us a half assed apology and said it was probably my daughters hair and she put it there on purpose! My daughter has black curly hair and the one in our food was brown and straight. He refused to take the burger off of the bill and was not at all helpful. To make matters worse none of their employees are taking precautions against Covid. Keeps getting worse. Been here only twice in the few years to see if will be any better. Burgers have shrunk in size. They look nothing like advertised. Photos attached. Spent $24 to get a double burger with cheese and bacon, and onion rings. I got 6-7 small onion rings for $7. You can see how tiny the burger is despite being a double. I left hungry after spending that. Second pic I got a tiny amount of fries with a shriveled burger. The toppings were wrong but I didn't bother getting it fixed. From my understanding there was a change of ownership here, and for whatever reason the portions have shrunk and quality has gone downhill. I want to like this place, but EVERY time I come here, I end up regretting it. A few weeks ago, I popped in for take-out poutine. The attached pic shows what I was disappointed to find upon my arrival home - definitely did not cure my squeaky cheese craving. Today I tried to give them another chance, but the service was atrociously slow, and a girl was handling raw meat without gloves in full view of customers. Walked into Vera's for nostalgia sake and ordered up one of their regular single pattie cheese burgers with fried onions on top and other fresh toppings. I came in on a Friday and to my surprise, their 'daily deal' was to choose any of the deals from Monday-Thursday (hurray!). I came in knowing the quality of their burgers as I've had Vera's cater to our company parties so I've had their delicious patties before. I ordered a "canuck burger", added mushrooms and got Sweet Potato Fries with it. Delicious!!! I thought maybe the patty was a little burnt but over all, it was delicious! This is the place to go for a big burger. It's fresh meat and there's a lot of it. On the wall are pictures of people eating burgers- including triple burgers (3 patties between a bun)- the result is a burger about 8 inches in height! I like the jalapeno caps- little round slices of jalapenos fried up like onion rings. They're good- you can get them as a side or right on top of your burger. I recommend getting something with cheese because the cheddar tastes wonderful. They have daily food and beer specials. Friday's special is called Two-Fistin' Friday (2 pints for $6). While we were waiting in line to order, almost all the tables filled up. So I recommend, having one person reserve a table as soon as you come in because this is a very popular lunch spot. read more
