It was finally time to try it out. Went to the Vancouver Auto Show first, where I walked around for three hours & got real hungry. Walked over with two mates from Waterfront to Chinatown - a 20 minute walk. This area is iconic & sad at the same time. I never park my car in this area. See my Gastown / Chinatown reviews for more tips. It's not the easiest of areas on the senses. In fact, it's unnerving. Ok now that you've been warned, let's talk about this restaurant & the food. Limited seating available & I noticed lots of online orders for pick-up coming through. I can confirm, the best smashburgers are right here = definitely in my top two category. I never get two patties, but I went with the special - Big Morty Burger - pickles, cheese, Mortadella, crispy onions, pistachio & bbq sauce & two patties. I was glad the patties were thin. I completely destroyed this burger = yes the taste was that good. I actually can't wait to get back here! Hot tip alert - you might get here & think you're good to go with only three people in line. Don't be fooled. Several online orders before us, were being worked on first. We waited 25mins for our burgers after ordering them - but it was worth it. Don't wear your favourite clothes here if you're dining in - smoke from the grill fills the entire restaurant. You'll leave here smelling like a burger. read more

Counter serve smash burger restaurant with simple options and a small menu. It's on the pricier side but we enjoyed all the food we tried. I came with my mom and sister and overall we'd all eat here again and would come back to try more of their menu. Best for smaller groups since there aren't too many tables. We came just after they opened and got to take advantage of their happy hour prices. The burgers are on the pricier side but everything was good quality. Tasty but expensive burger joint in Chinatown. Should've noticed the lineup of hipsters outside. Parking is available on the street. Just watch out for coked out junkies. I had to sidestep several of them on the way over. Also don't leave any valuables in the car. The place is pretty feel-good hipsterish. Wooden benches and tables, and some vintage stuff on the counters. There is also some bar style seating by the front counter, as well as some seats that face a wall. Staff are friendly and helpful. The counter is right by the front, hence the lineup out the door. There isn't much standing room. The burgers here are definitely quite tasty. Had the jalapeno bacon cheeseburger. It's solid. My only complaint is that the patties are quite thin. So glad I got the double. I also had their dirty onion rings. Basically battered onion rings with mayo and bacon and some other fixings on top. Pretty tasty. Better than A&W I might say. The pricing reflects that too. My wallet was lightened, but buddy and I left happy. Despite the price, I can definitely recommend this place. read more

Burgers usually aren't my thing but I was getting jabbed left right center with flavour *mostly beefy ofc but it comes with a bit-too generous splash of grease. Sometimes, it feels like that's where the flavour is (and valid for sure) but man it was drippin' a bit too much. Still a banger until the last few bites, dirty fries were good too. The place is fairly small, there's about 5 4 seater booths and maybe a handful of bar stools. Service is alright. Mainly you just go up and order at the till. Got a burger and fries here after a long time of wanting to go! The burger didn't disappoint, but it was too much for me. Too greasy and too saucey. I personally prefer a more well-balanced burger. It was flavourful and saucy and a perfect amount of kick. Just want to be clear that I give the burger 4 stars but the ambiance 2 stars which is why I have an average of 3. If you are just planning on take-out or ordering food from this place, I highly recommend! The burgers were so crispy, well seasoned and simple but flavorful. The waffle fries were also very crispy and delicious. The place is too small to accommodate more than about 5-6 groups of people, and going on a warm summer Friday night, I am not sure if they don't have air conditioning or it just wasn't working but it was uncomfortably hot. The staff is busy in the kitchen and don't have a counter to grab your own napkins or condiments which was not great. We also asked to remove pickles on one of our burgers, and asked for a side of extra sauce but they didn't follow through. "That is a tasty burger" I've had B2B from their food truck before but this is my first time at their actual restaurant. Overall great smash burgers. Well seasoned beef, crisp but not dry, fresh toasted bun. The patties are quite thin, so I recommend getting a double or triple. Decent selection of canned and draft craft beer, which is essential pairing for smash burgers. There was a line up outside with 4 groups ahead of us. We waited about 20 minutes on a weekend evening. People seemed to be moving through fairly fast. There are 4 booths inside (seating ~4 people each), and a bar with about 8 seats. Service was friendly enough. It's order at the counter (no table service) and they'll bring your food out. It was quite smoky inside. I had friends comment that I smelled like burgers afterwards. we drove around the block a few times trying to get parking as there was a transit van blocking east pender with flashing lights and pylons and decided to just do take out instead of dine in. we arrived at between 2 buns on a friday night at around 7:30 pm and was greeted with a handwritten note on the front door, "please wait to be called in". this was awkward, as i saw a person a few steps ahead of me just saunter in and sat at the counter. this hamburger joint is located in a sketchy part of chinatown, is tiny, and may be difficult to find, but the delightful smell of burgers will confirm that you have arrived. i waited outside as instructed and was called in after a few minutes. this greasy spoon probably seats around 25 people max, and has a #no mods neon sign, nostalgic mchappy meal toys, and a retro arcade game of marvel vs capcom. i was told the wait would be between 20 to 25 minutes, and quickly placed my order and paid. i was then instructed to wait outside (in the winter cold, in a sketch neighbourhood) for my order. thankfully there were a few groups of people after me, some waited outside, while others just disregarded the sign and simply walked in, it was disorganized. a couple arrived and asked if i was in line and i told them i had already placed my order but there were others waiting to get in. our order took closer to 30 minutes. i got the single cheeser, smash burger patty, pickles, shredduce and special sauce with waffle fries and my partner got the double cheeser without the cheese and onion rings. our smash burgers were very thin, looks like someone may have taken their frustrations out on our burgers and charred it to the point of being burnt, and the waffle fries were heavily seasoned and not crisp. the bun was soft and the taste wasn't bad, but overall, we were disappointed with the whole experience. maybe it was an off night, or they were understaffed? unless you decide to dine in, best to order online to minimize your wait time and avoid the whole confusion with waiting outside. opens at 4:00 pm and closed on mondays. read more

Cute little retro-vibe burger joint smack center Chinatown. I've heard of this place some time ago but also heard about their limited service hours (predominantly open for dinner service). Small menu with a few beer options to choose from - signs that they're perfecting the few items! I opted for a jalapeño bacon smash burger and queso fries. The burger was tasty, fresh, could use a bit of fresh greens as it got heavy towards the last few bites. The queso fries was shared amongst a few, we all agreed it was overwhelmingly salty to the point of salty-bitterness, not particularly sure if it's the cheese or the seasoned fries itself but this was a no go. I saw negative reviews here. Some said about the price was high. Some said the burger was greasy and the meat or beef was thin. Well..... I agreed it's little pricey but this is the real fatty burger and it is worth the price! The burger was fresh. The portion was a bit smaller, but the taste especially the beef was coming from a certain part of a cow made it very different and unique from other burgers! The beef was supposed to be cooked very thin and a bit crispy on the edge. Adding $4 to get the fries was totally worth it!! I was very addicted to the fries!! The restaurant cooked them fresh. Not like some restaurants which just cooked fries and gave to customers whenever they ordered them. Anyhow, I personally feel it's worth the price and calories to eat this fatty burger. So excited to try B2B amongst the list of recent new burger joints to open up in Vancouver. Their burger had good texture to it but the sauce can be quite a mess. Which would've been less of an issue if the staff were keen enough to offer napkins voluntarily or leave some out at the tables. The patties and buns are solid. Miso fries and beer cheese fries were both really good. The fried pickles however were burnt and resembled nothing like a pickle. I saw that after they made our order of fried pickles they erased it from the menu board. A better more experienced restaurant wouldn't have served the burnt mess that we received and offered to comp us with drinks or simply refund that portion but so be it. Frankly with a drink, burger, and fries you're pushing almost $30/person here and for that price would've expected a bit better as well as faster service. Especially when considering you're situated in the core of the DTES. Food was solid enough and did scratch a burger itch for me but the experience overall was a bit lacking to be considered a 4 or 5 star burger joint. No one's bussing and I don't get the sense that anyone really cares what the guest experience should be like. read more

NoMods here, but we're not complaining. We stumbled upon the burger joint while walking around Chinatown and the smell simply enchanted us. It was my first time having a smash burger and it was delicious--so delicious that we actually came back the next day. Over the course of the weekend, we tried 3 burgers--the single cheeser, double cheeser, and bacon cheeser burger--onion rings and street fries. The patties seem to melt in your mouth and the freshly-fried onion rings were the cherry on top. The space reminds me of a retro diner, with an arcade game, mini gummy burgers, and cute childhood art and figurines. My wife found this amazing burger place! I've been on the lookout in the city for a burger joint that was equivalent to Shake Shack down in America. Since we don't have one here in our beautiful city, need to find an alternative to one. So we found Between 2 Buns. Quickly realized that they don't have a store. More like a pop up store. And they're usually on the move. One week they can be here in Vancouver. The next they are somewhere in Port Coquitlam (too far for us to drive even if their burgers are really good!). When they are in Vancouver. They are usually stationed at Containers Brewing on Franklin Street. Containers Brewing has an outdoor patio. So during the summers. That patio is filled up pretty quickly. But during the winter months, like October, when the weather is still nice but it's a lot colder. Patio is pretty open. While their burgers are to die for. Their service leaves much to be desired. They have a system, but it seems like they probably need to tweak their system. The first time we waited. It took about 45 min for two burgers. Tonight when we went. It took an hour and 15 min before we received our orders of two cheeseburgers. This was due, in my understanding, to a misunderstanding of some of the orders before ours. I'm sorry. I love the burgers. But waiting almost 1.5 hours is a little ridiculous. I have decided to give them four stars because their burgers are just out of this world. They did give us free fries when they did not have to, I believe it is because they felt so bad that our burgers took so long to come out. In the end however. I would recommend them. However. If they do not improve their service. I can find customers, including us, start to become a little impatient. There is grace definitely for a new business when it starts. But they need to be constantly improving or else they will be left behind. Service and good food is or utmost importance. They got the good food part down. The burger is juicy and the bun amazing. I do have to give it 2 stars JUST because of the service! It's just bad. I had my food before my beer and had to get up to basically ask for my drinks and napkins. But you know people are busy !? Why I would not go back - because I was told that there are no alterations for a kids burger ! Seriously a Kids burger! All I wanted was nothing than the patty! But they don't do alterations!? Stepped in here to continue over-eating after inhaling two new-town buns. Hey, one can never have enough buns. Wanted to see if the new owners of what used to be Besties were up to snuff, and was pleasantly surprised. Had a Happy Hour spicy mini burger, fries and a GentleFloss light IPA. The burger was fresh and juicy, pleasantly spicy and reminded me of a quasadilla mixed with a cheeseburger - lots of crunch! Fries were freshly made, nice and crunchy and dressed just the right amount. The beer was great and their four taps have a rotating range of great local beers. Took a coworker here for lunch. For two burgers with fries and one soda plus tip the bill came to $42.00. The patties are very, very thin and the burger is okay, but not worth $10 - and the fries cost another $4 I asked for vinegar, they didn't have any. I asked for salt and pepper - got that eventually but it seemed to be a struggle. And there are no substitutions allowed for the burgers. So, if you like mustard or pickles or anything beyond mayo on your burger, you are S.O.L. I like the idea and the people seem nice but it seems more like a cafe designed for what is convenient for the business rather than what would be appealing to the customers. One of the best burgers I've ever had. Fries are incredible as well. The restaurant is a cool little spot in Chinatown with an awesome vibe. Service there was great too all staff were great. You can expect the same great quality food from the food truck as well, nice to see them when they come to the local breweries in the Tri-cities and we don't have to make the trek all the way out to Vancouver.
